Excellent video Brian. I worried that there was something wrong with me as I always get extremely nervous when flying. I even get a little bit of vertigo when I think about flying sometimes. However, seeing your awesome videos gives me the strength to carry on and work through my fears. Thanks again!
Honestly, this is the precise comment I was hoping for: knowing I'm not the only weirdo who gets anxious flying and two that there's strength in numbers as it keeps me working through my fears, too! Also, the vertigo thing, I honestly thought I was only one... It hits me if I especially ever look up at the drone if it's directly above me. It's something that happens if I'm ever at the base of a skyscraper too and look up. I'm sure it's an inner ear thing and there's some scientific term for it, but I just thought it was like a reverse fear of heights. If I'm in a helicopter or airplane, I don't have the fear, so it's a strange one. Maybe that'll be the future of FPV drones, where you're actually piloting it from a cockpit. I'd probably be less anxious with that! Ok, long story, less long... Thanks for sharing your anxiety with me!
@@BrianCatalano So interesting to know vertigo can happen as well. I'm still trying to figure out what model of drone to start with but have not flown one yet. I have imagined I'd be so nervous of crashing, going over water initially, and what people around will think....especially worrying they will be angry about the drone flying. I'm sure I'll be even more uptight than I'm even imagining I will be. But I had no idea vertigo can happen too and I'm glad I saw that here before ever flying. I probably would have really flipped out if I experienced that without having the benefit of knowing it happens to other people. So stressful. And, of course I'm so worried about accidentally doing something the FAA will be upset over and finding a big bill in the mail one day with no way to actually pay it. That is freaking scary. And yet I really want to fly a drone. Yikes. So nervous.
@@HollyFischerArt ha ha, I love this message... I can feel the anxiety from this side of the keyboard, and I completely relate. I carry all those fears and still managed to learn to fly. I do think this is the best beginner drone and because of the weight, you don't need a license and because of the budget, I would survive, emotionally, if I accidentally crashed. I believe you can do it if I can!
Beaut video mate. Yeah, the thing is we just have to trust the drone and not think the little bugger is going to crash hey. I have been flying for 7 years now and still get nervous. I have gotten a lot more confident since using Litchi Mission Hub where you pre program a waypoint flight on the computer. I have a Phantom 3 standard, Mavic Air 2 and the Mavic Mini. After seeing your video mate, I’m more inclined to get the 2 now and save a few quid by not getting the 3. Thanks Brian.
@@waynegreene6405 thank you so much, and I'm really happy to hear that I could help, especially since you are drone connoisseur, so to speak... That price jump to the mini3 is big, but I still sort of long for the RC. Also, I think you may have convinced me to get into Litchi! Thank you!
I couldn't agree more! It's such a great entry into drone flying for many, like myself, who wouldn't even have considered experimenting with one in the past, but the price and value make it hard not to pick up and try out!
As a new member of this hobby and new owner of this drone, I can absolutely agree that this drone is absolutely still worth it. Thank you for your perspectives and insights.
Thank you, that's especially reassuring to hear because you have both. I'm envious of your 3 but definitely content with my 2! Thanks again for sharing that perspective!!
@@TonesDroneVisuals I think you're right!! I'd like the remote, the 10bit color, and the tracking... But the truth is, I definitely don't need it and becoming better at flying is way more important. Thanks again!!
I can relate to your Drone anxiety Brian! The Mini 2 is definitely still worth it and thanks for the cool travel videos. I love your chill attitude, keep it up!!!
Thank you so much! I never really know if I'm the only one who is a super nervous flyer, so that actually helps to hear that you can relate!! I appreciate the support too... Thanks again!
I only went with the mini 2 cause it was $300 used on ebay. The mini 3 pro is $900 with the rc controller. Not paying triple the price for 4k 60fps and hdr.
This video is great thanks for making it .......It help me make a better decision . I decided to purchase a mini 2 with the fly more combo used off Macari for $300. I really don't want to take the chance of crashing a $1,200 mini 3 pro even though I like the auto tracking and RC remote but considering I'm only going to use it for family videos and UA-cam production on a small UA-cam channel I think the mini 2 work just fine.
That's a fantastic deal! Congrats... Hope you love the drone as much as I have! I completely agree with that, too. I'm not trying to crash a mini 3 Pro (yet!?). Plus you can look into Litchi (the third party app that tracks almost better than djis active tracking). Thanks for watching and commenting, glad I could help you make the decision!!
Just one small correction 36mph is actually 58kmh. But yes the Mini 2 is a great workhorse definitely if it's going to be your first drone fully recommend the mini 2
Oh yes, you are right! Thank you! I may have even had it right in the script and completely botched while reading it--not even close. Thanks for the correction. And I completely agree, best beginner drone on the market!
@@BrianCatalano i started with a mini 1, until it decided to identify as a submarine, replaced it with the mini 2 just before the 3 Pro was released. Yes I would’ve liked the 3 Pro but not at 3x the price of the 2. And to be honest, I haven’t looked back
@@droningwesternaustralia ha ha! However, I am looking forward to the DJI Submarine now!! I feel the exact same way... That 10 bit color would be nice, but there's so many features and functions I have yet to master on the mini 2 that it doesn't make sense to jump ship until I have.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. More videos are on the way... My next is actually another drone, one much cheaper than DJI Mini 2 (but with a lot less features).
Really glad you added the bit about drone anxiety from your personal perspective. I'm not a Type A and the thought of flying where people may not be overly supportive is the main reason for grounding my large P4P V2. I watched this video because I'm picking up a used Mini 2 in a couple of days and was just hoping for some flying tips. You did that and so much more. Much appreciated!
I really, really appreciate it... I'm happy I could help you make a decision on getting a mini2, and even more, that we could commiserate with our flying-anxieties!
That's a great way to spin that feeling, I'm going to use that... Thank you! Physically, there's little difference between nervousness and excitement, except how we frame it, so I'm going to mentally try to feel the rush next time!
regarding 3:23 screwing in the joysticks every time... I found a way to leave them permanently in while still comfortably seated inside the carrying bag: simply turn the remote on it's side and the joysticks easily nest around the hub next to it without needing extra space. Also at 4:12 36 mph is not 39 "kilometers" as stated but 58 km/h
That's a great idea... Thank you! I'm going to try that. The current space in my bag is pretty tight, but frankly that would help a lot. Also, yes...you're right. I did make a mistake. I should probably note that in the description. Thanks again!
Thanks for your reassurance and confidence in the Mini 2 as I just purchased one ! After researching both drones , I opted not to pay the big price tag of the Mini 3 and the Mini 2 to me was a bigger bang for the buck
I am really happy to hear that, so thank you! I eventually want the mini3 pro, but the price jump does not make sense at all. I am positive that the increase in specs would not make me a better drone pilot nor deliver me dramatically better footage... It's just crazy how well the mini2 is still holding up! Thanks again for sharing that!
Great honest video! I have the Mini 2 and flying anxiety so I’m completely with you there! It’s a great little drone. I’ve subscribed. Good luck with your channel!
Good video mate. I’ve had a mini 2 for quite a few months now and I fly it all the time. In fact I’ve done over 2,000 kms with it and it still flies like a dream. I recently picked up a second hand mini 3 pro for a really good price and that is an awesome drone but as far as the price goes I still think the m3p is still a little bit too expensive. I mainly got it for the DJI RC coz I’m from Oz and it’s summer over here and it can get difficult having to use your phone with the m2. I also get the anxiety quite a bit too but now I only get it with the m3p and I’m fine with the m2. It’s wired how it happens.
I get all of that...and am super impressed with how much flying you've done, and you still get the jitters!? I'm guessing then, maybe it's the value of the drone... Like I have three cameras, all objectively expensive, but they are at 3 completely different price ranges. I used to be so protective of my cheapest camera until I got a more expensive one, and now I just throw it in my bag without thinking (and it's fine). I then got an even pricier camera, and now I don't worry about my mid-tier one. It must be some sort of relative fear over perceived value. However, with drones, I'm not just afraid I'll break it, I'm afraid I'll crash it into a police helicopter (or something equally ridiculous)! Regardless, it's still one of the best purchases I've made, but I would love to pick up the DJI RC because it would be nice not to have to hook up my phone! Thanks for sharing your take!!
"Damage a medieval Chapel" - your best jokes are always at the end - Brian you are crushing the content! Your insights are spot on and the b-roll is incredible plus you are getting closer to 1000 subs - WOW! Keep up the great content!
Ha ha... It's only funny because it's true! Thank you so much for watching at all and your support! It keeps me motivated having a talented content creator like yourself cheering me on! We will both be on that 1k soon enough!!
I couldn't agree more, and you're right...with Maven or Litchi, you get all the features of the more expensive drones (other than 10bit color and the remote--which most of us don't need)! Also, thanks for reminding me, I need to play with Maven!
I've had my two Mini 2's for two years now. They are great drones. I have never had any issues with either one. They take great videos and pictures. I fly them a LOT. For the money they can't be beat. By far the best drone on the market for the money. I've never come close to wrecking either one. I don't see a need to get anything else.
Wow, two mini 2s!? Do you keep one as back up or... fly with a friend? I completely agree with all that... I'd love the remote, but it's a non essential especially with what a great value the 2 is. It will be awhile before they top it!
@Brian Catalano After getting my first Mini 2, I enjoyed it so much and flew it so much I was afraid it would wear out or crash and I didn't want to be without! So I bought another Flymore Combo, and 2 more batteries so I have 8. I switch off flying them. Right now Mini 2.1 needs the props replaced (bug hits) I've been flying it more so I need to switch..I also have a very large commercial drone, but I can't fly it often, and it's WORK only. So...enter the Mini 2's! I really think they are the best drones for the money.
@@normanrukki3954 that makes a lot of sense...and you definitely can't have enough batteries and the fact you can still get two flymore combos for the price of one mini3 is with remote is amazing...and I can I imagine having a backup could be crucial!
I completely understand that about the price. Yet, I've been testing some cheaper drones and there's really such a big quality leap with DJI and think it really is the best beginner drone, even more now that I see what other budget drone manufacturers are doing. It should last a long time too!
@@BrianCatalano Friends into videos and RC stuff suggested me to go directly with DJI and so I did. I have some konwledge with RC sport gliders and hopefully will help in the beginning. RC club members will help me at the field too, we have a lot of guys that compete with fpv drones too. I was more for the mini SE flymorecombo in the beginning but in the end I chosed to put the extra money (150€ extra) in the mini 2 flymorecombo and hopefully have a better experience and more longevity. More than that it's just too much money as 1st drone I think.
@@BrianCatalano Thankyou. Waited years before pull the trigger, can't wait to receive it (I'll get it in few days) and go to the RC club's field try it with some club mates guidance, I must say :)
Thank you so much... That's sounds incredible! I'm envious of your upcoming trip...and yes, I think the DJI mini 2 will be perfect! I would recommend getting the fly more kit because of the extra batteries and charging pack. Maybe get a battery bank too 'cause last thing you'll want is not enough juice when you're ready to fly! Come back and tell me when you've returned, I'd love to hear how it goes! Thanks again!
By removing the top battery cover you can add a Vifly Strobe and Beacon and be under 250g. Total Transformation for the better. Litchi is icing on the Cake.
I've had a Mini 2 for more than 2 years and it is still excellent, but mostly I prefer my Skydio 2 even though that machine is more than twice the price of the Mini 2. On the other hand, the Skydio 2 will rarely crash, and I have had minor crashes on the Mine 2 twice but still the original props. Still an excellent machine.
The skydio is crazy... I actually had never heard of it, so I had to look it up and it's tracking and avoidance detection looks brilliant! I'm guessing that technology is a lot of the cost, too. It's probably nice to have the mini 2 as a supplemental drone similarly to how I have a cinema camera and a pocketable point and shoot camera.
Brian! Nice shots in there! All the drone stuff in my little travel film October In Iceland was shot with the Mini 2, and I was so impressed with what I was reviewing every night we got back. I was thinking to buy the pro before leaving, and I was happy I spent that money on some nice nights out during the trip. There are some places I flew that I'm not sure I would have sent a more expensive drone, and the results were more than enough for me. It's my fourth drone now, and I might be flying this one until it's at the bottom of a gorge somewhere 😆.
Ha ha... I know what you mean about the comfort you have when using your relatively cheaper gear versus a pro version. I've crashed this guy a few times and have calmed myself by thinking it's just a cheap mini... But then I look at the footage and I too am impressed each time, not to mention surprised at how it's never damaged when I stupidly fly it into a wall. I do want the pro eventually, but maybe I'll just hold out until the mini 4 or 5!
That's also a great idea, and a great subject to cover that honestly I know nothing about either, so I'd watch that... But you're right, it might be a bit dull to make!
I couldn't agree more! I do wonder though if there will ever be a mini 4 (or after) that will be a comparable budget drone with upgraded video specs. Here's hoping! Until then, I still love this thing!
Great video, really good help, thanks! I actually decided to go for the mini 2 after watching this, only to find out there's a mini 2 SE. I reckon 4k is worth it, but I'm on the fence a bit. What do you reckon?
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that... Well, I think the difference in price is pretty slight, and the jump in resolution from 2.7k to 4k doesn't seem big on paper, but I think the extra resolution is worth every penny. I'm testing a super budget drone right now that only has 2.7k and I've been comparing the images to the mini 2, and I'm even more satisfied with the mini 2 now that I've seen a lesser drone!
@@BrianCatalano Thanks a lot for the quick reply and your take. I agree the resolution does matter. Here in Europe the difference is about 90 euro's between mini 2 fly more and the 2SE fly more, but I'll go for the mini 2. YOLO! ;)
@@funkyjazz123 you're welcome...and really hope you enjoy it as much as I have. I'm also envious that you likely have so many historic landmarks around you to fly a drone nearby. Best of luck!!
Happy to hear that as it's still a great purchase! DJI just rereleased this product under a new name, the DJI Mini 4k, because it's still one of the best value products that they make...
thabk yoh so much.. i just bought mine.. you just tell me i didnt waste any money.. it doesnt matter to me if there is no obstacle avoidance or any othe mini 3 pro feature... like you said just for the breathtaking scene/video.. i can afford mini 3 pro but chose this one bcause of financial reason.. but watching this makes me feel i did a right choice too... and yeah the trackin feature is also what i needed.. but other app is also compatible for this drone like Litchi app that allows to follow you while riding a motorcycle or any land vehicle.. its awesome.. i just need a HQ videos for my montages, and vlogs.. this is worth a buy drone.. specialy for the beginners like me.. its not about the drone.. its about the pilot also 😁
I couldn't agree with you more... It still is the best budget option out there, and having litchi really does add the only feature that the 3 has that the 2 doesn't. It really is more about the pilot than the drone, and you can really push this drone to do amazing things... (For me, only when I can steady my fingers). Thanks for sharing this...and hope you love the mini 2 as much as I have!
I really appreciate it! I completely understand, budget is and was my main deciding factor, too. Yet, it's remarkable the quality and form factor... there really isn't anything else within that price range that's even comparable! Thanks again and hope you get as much joy out of your mini 2 as I have mine!!
I can truly tell. You are an intelligent and knowledgeable guy. Incredibly practical and thoroughly professional. Which are rare traits today. And I couldn't agree with you more! And so I won't. As I cannot argue these facts! So, my friend. I have yet to make my first drone purchase. I've been carefully shopping now for about eight years. Because as a skilled engineer. Of over 50 years now retired. I do my research and shopping, carefully. Because whatever I purchase. I'm going to want to use. For the next 20-30 or 40 years. Of course I will be long dead by then. Since I am now 67 but! That does not negate the fact. I am a true professional. And I want professional performance. And professional look. To my professional videos. And this is a great and very doable compromise. So I was looking at this unit. A couple years ago. Now they've got the newer one. With the newer price. And newer features we will all want. So what is the good engineering compromise workaround? It's this! And they also sell, refurbished new units. With a brand-new warranty. For even greater savings. And I think you have helped to, complete my decision-making. Now with my more limited funds. From a professional and personal catastrophe. I have been left up the creek without a paddle. And I guess time to get back to video production? Again. And what you need to look like, NBC-TV, again? Because I already know how the picture has to look. So there is no guesswork there for me. In looking for the right look. The right dynamic range. The right exposure control. Is there adjustable gamma? And I operate with auto assisted manual settings. Because that's a great combination! When you can let it's, Artie Fecal intelligence do its thing. While you operate the other moves. And that is more Hollywood style. Yeah because back in the day. Everybody had separate jobs. To do with that little chip inside the flying camera that cost a couple of hundred bucks can do. You got the focus puller. You've got the exposure and color shader. You've got the director of photography. And you've got the sand. On a little chip inside the camera. And whoever thought that, images projected on sand. Could be so high resolution? But little sand grains are small. And if each one was a color pixel? Hey wait! What a great idea?! Oh nevermind… It was a stupid idea anyhow. I have not yet figured out how to, vacuum a tube? RemyRAD
I think for the video quality to be up to par, as in one can reasonably make the image look like a non hobbyist's holiday-toy, I would recommend getting at minimum the mini 3 Pro because of it's 10bit color and slightly bigger sensor. However, the standard of what is seen as the baseline of image fidelity is ever changing, it does seem to be plateau-ing to some degree. Maybe in 8 more years of shopping, it will only be 12bit 8k video, so not sure any of them are future proof... Maybe just cheaper to buy a helicopter and a RED Komodo. But seriously, I can relate to being bound by a budget and having high standards. It's tricky finding the balance there when making any purchases (or life decisions)!
Brilliant video. I’ve subscribed as I have a mini 2. Now looking to upgrade this year I think. I know what you mean by drone anxiety but my love for flying is greater. Thank you for sharing this video it’s fantastic 🎉❤
I've played with the settings you can mess with the yaw rate and such which in sport mode makes it really snappy not for cinema but just flying a bit more aggressive, you can also rotate the camera an extra 20° above horizon. Requesting permission to fly in a red zone is super easy but you need to do it on a laptop, get B4 you fly APP request Lance, screen shot and then request permission on the dji site.
I'm such a beginner with all these settings, I didn't even know you could do all that... But you've inspired me to go and tinker with it. Thank you!! (Fly in a red zone freaks me out though!)
I have been flying this mini 2 for more than two years and I am very satisfied with its picture and video and color adjustment. Regarding the battery problem, we can use the modified version of the battery so that we can fly more time
That's amazing; best gift ever.. I really hope he loves the drone as much as I have, and I'm thankful that I could help you make that decision!! Thank you!
Amazing, and thank you!! I really hope you love it as much as I have... The value and quality is pretty undeniable and likely will be for a while! Thanks again
If money wasn't an issue, I would of course pick the mini 3 Pro... Which is probably more stable in high altitudes but both sub 250g drones are decent but less ideal than the heavier new drones like mavic 3 (but that's double the cost).
@@BrianCatalano i got the money saved up, not going back to bolivia after that trip so i money is secondary. But flying close to 4 000 or even above worries me a bit.unfortunately it has to be sub 250g as i do not need any licence and permits

Yes, it's a fantastic beginner drone, and maybe just the best value drone period. However, if you want to use the mini 2 to track you, you can't unless you are using quick-shots but it doesn't work well when you're moving or you have to get a third party app (which I've never used) to hack the tracking system. The DJI mini 3 Pro is your cheapest option to get tracking shots and just as my video said, it's 3 times the price! It's great for all other purposes though...
@Brian Catalano honestly the pleasure is mine, it was refreshing and unexpected too watch , so for me it was nice to know I'm not the only one who avoids party's social events on a large scale too !!
@@markarlie7644 it's a struggle (first, to know if it's because we are just naturally more introverts, or if it's that we are just generally more anxious... so how do we combat that?) and then second, because I want more friends, but I don't want to go to the social activities to try and make them. However, I think I've just learned that I need less friends but higher quality ones, and go outside my comfort zone more often if I can tolerate it... And then to just breathe when I'm flying my drone--which is still the hardest lesson!
@Brian Catalano it's funny as over the years that have gone by, I kinda like my own company now, I guess it's my safe place and I kinda do what I need to do in the environment I feel comfortable.
@@markarlie7644 same... my feelings exactly! I guess I just try to stay cognizant of the fact that most of my good memories are not within my safe space but just outside of it when I take a risk and say yes to some invitation. So knowing when to say yes and when to recoup by myself is the constant conversation I'm having. Frankly, I'm grateful that's the extent of my struggles and I'm not in some war torn country... or starving!
Good stuff, Mr. Catalano. Funny too 😁. I'm relatively new to droning, and just got one of these in the fall (as my second ever drone). It's a phenomenal step up from the budget one I came from (sjrc f11 4k pro)...most notably, for me, in terms of flight control and reliability. (The other was enough to convince me, tho, of the fun and capability of drone flying, so no real regrets there). ANYWAY... funny on the flight anxiety thing. Certainly went through that...but I've also made the mistake of not being anxious enough! As with everything with some risk involved...a certain amount of 'anxiety' can be good and healthy to keep you honest. Anyway, blah blah blah. Enjoyed the video. And cheers (also from NC).
I love that and I think you're completely right, and probably not just about drone flying, but a little anxiety across the board, likely makes us act in a more responsible way. I probably am just at the other spectrum where I have more than I need. Regardless, thanks for taking the time out to watch and comment... I really do appreciate it!!

I have the first mini mavic and the mini 2 that was a true upgrade. I love my mini2 and love it . That is the drone for me it has never really let me down. The range and the wind resistance is quite good. I learned to fly with the mavic mini. So I got good at flying. I have a lume cube and I fly at night and get some good time exposures and that’s pretty cool 😎
I've heard that as well that the mini 2 felt like a big upgrade... That's cool that you learned to fly with the original! You got me now considering getting the lume cube... I never thought of really doing that before but it seems like a great idea. Thank you!
@@greatnorthernviews3052 just been looking them up... I'd also love if you could rig up a light or two so you could project it out to really shoot at night (maybe a super lightweight flash light).
You know what else makes the mini 2 great…the fact that DJI doesn’t leave software behind. They constantly make nice updates and minor changes that make it better. Not like an iPhone that has updates that do nothing or just make a mess. Also, with basic photoshop ap, the mini takes outstanding AEB shots that are perfect and so easy to merge. I’m by far some photographer nor do I have time to be one but the mini 2 makes magazine type shots possible! One last thing…even if you don’t have a big budget, recondition mini 2 are out there that look brand new. If you don’t like that idea, even QVC has 3 and 4 pay available to anyone and sells new minis! If you can swing $200 a month for 3 months you can get a fly more pack with a new one. Awesome stuff.
Those are all fantastic points! I didn't even consider those strengths but you're right on all fronts... I really need to try more drone photography as well!
@@BrianCatalano I’m curious too. I only use PS because it was free and simple. I’ve tried one other and I just don’t have time to dive in deep to learn it all. PS to me is sort of like barely a step above what comes standard on most phones…..it’s just a few extra things.
I totally agree it's still worth buying. one way to gauge it is to see how long they keep it on the market. it is a price where many will buy due to price. for me to switch would be another 13 to 1400 dollars even if I could get out of it for what I have now.
I think you're right... That is a great metric too, of how long they are keeping it on the market and it how popular it still is. I think having to spend another $1200 seems out of the question now for me too!
I have a problem. When I used “Stick to” a subject (to rotate around the subject) I couldn’t record video. Why couldn’t I record? What should I do? Thanks a lot.
So I'm guessing you're having trouble when you are attempting to do a quick-shot? If so, you have to press start... But you may want to look up a special tutorial on UA-cam, 'How to use quick-shot on DJI mini2' or something... That's what I had to do. Let me know if you're able to figure it out. Good luck!
Great question and I hope others chime in here, but the only reason for me to have obstacle avoidance anywhere but the bottom sensors is for when using tracking, which the mini2 does innately have but can be hacked with third party apps like Litchi. Yet, even then I think as long you're not planning on trailing a subject through the forest, you're good in most instances. It's nice to have but doesn't for me justify the added price jump with the mini3.
the maximum ceiling doesnt mean much as the laws for most countries wont allow you to go that high. I know the law for Australia only allows a 400ft maximum height unless you have a permit to go higher (which almost everyone wont have)
I fully agree! It's interesting that it's capable of reaching such heights, but I live in Los Angeles where there's as many police helicopters as there are birds, so I'm happy to just go 100m up at times... But it's fun to imagine getting some shots from 2miles up!
I got the mini 2 but if you don't have a drone, I would definitely save up for the mini 3 pro. I still think the mini 2 is the best starter drone ever made just because of the price.
I definitely get that... I think if the price difference wasn't so big, I'd have upgraded already! For me, I'm glad I picked up the mini2 first to learn flying and if I waited to save up, I'd probably still not have a drone, but I definitely get your point as it's also good advice!
@@BrianCatalano another question bro, can i buy dji mini 4k with single battery and 2 batteries for 2nd hand from olx? (Who would buy fly more combo one for half of full price extra?
@@abhinavsalian3740 that's a good question that I don't know the answer for though as I've never tried a third party battery. Maybe Google, can you use 3rd party batteries with the DJI mini 4k (or 2)?, or look up reviews for that specific battery. I will say, you definitely need more than one battery and I don't regret getting the flymore kit. I still use the bag all the time too
Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that! Thanks for letting me/us know that could be an issue. I appreciate that...but I hope it gets fixed for you somehow or will you consider getting the djirc?
36mph = ~58kph 😀 you've got me convinced. I was looking at the mini 3, but budget wise, the 2 is a great alternative. (and will suit my purposes just fine)
I didn't know that... I just updated my links, you can still by it new on Amazon: amzn.to/3vztL3K And the combo: amzn.to/49wGmCC Thanks for the heads-up!
@@BrianCatalano I think it’s planned so people like me start looking at the mini 3 pro and the 3classic. I may sell my mini 2 and upgrade not sure yet.
That's a reasonable concern, but I have done this and since I record in 4k and Instagram prefers 1080p, cropping in, for me, has never been an issue. That being said, the 3 or 3pro'a vertical shooting capability is amazing and if you can afford it and you are mainly wanting vertical content then it's worth considering. Yet, again the crop on the mini2 (or mini4k) has never looked pixelated when I've done it
I bought my mini 2 a couple of years ago but I've only used it four or five times, I think I have drone anxiety, I thought I was the only person in the world who felt like this.
@@BrianCatalano it’s basic, the quality is hard to match up with the camera’s quality, but if you use it on a cloudy day or in the evening you can get some decent footage. I rarely use it but I used it the other day. I need to upgrade bad though
That's a great question! My presumption would be the autel would be better just because of how much larger the sensor is. Yet, I have never flown one or seen comparable footage. I'm also guessing the processor would affect low light performance, so I'm not sure how they compare either. It's a good question though, something I may look into further... Thank you!
Damn! You got good eyes!! My parents are there too... In fact I went to middle school and highschool around there, and headed there tomorrow! I've probably flown my drone on this lake more than anywhere else in the world! Hope you love the mini 2 as much as I have and you catch some good sunsets there!!
That's a great question... I actually don't know! It may be just a semi marketing plot to list its physical capabilities while not allowing us to access that feature. Maybe there's third party apps, however, that may allow us to use it. I'm not sure though.
@@BrianCatalano yeah there may be an awesome third party app that really turns the Mini 2 loose . . . I've recorded videos on mine of things that neither I nor MUFON can explain. They actually put it up on the site, and labeled it as "unknown/other". I haven't shown them but 1 video too, Fast Walkers galore!
Yes, you're right! That was the third party app that I was referring to. I've never tried it but I want to! That's awesome to know, I'm going to get it... Thank you!
the trouble with the 3 that screen gose dead or gets damaged you have to pay for another remote phone you can pick up cheap i wont buy the 3 due to this
Excellent video Brian.
Thank you!
Absolutely worth it, it's a great little machine and probably still the best bang for buck drone on the market.
I really appreciate it .. thanks for taking the time to share that!!
Agreed 100%. I have both the Mini 2 and Mini 3 and the Mini 2 is still the best value for money
Thank you, that's especially reassuring to hear because you have both. I'm envious of your 3 but definitely content with my 2! Thanks again for sharing that perspective!!
@@BrianCatalano There's not a lot to be gained from the Mini 3 being almost double the price. A Mini 2 in the right hands is more than enough
Wow, you got it at a crazy good price, and I completely agree with you about paying three times that for the 3pro!
Excellent video! Keep ‘em
coming!
Great video, and yes, the anxiety is real! I prefer to call it "the rush!" Sounds less intimidating ;-)
Thank you so much!! And it's weird how much that helps to know I'm not the only one with drone anxiety... Thanks again!!

Honestly even the Mini2 SE is a good drone. Using the Maven app you can even get all the follow me and waypoint features of the more expensive drones.
I couldn't agree more, and you're right...with Maven or Litchi, you get all the features of the more expensive drones (other than 10bit color and the remote--which most of us don't need)! Also, thanks for reminding me, I need to play with Maven!
This is literally the exact video I have scripted out for my subscribers, too. Phenomenal machine.
Great minds must think alike or...at least good ones!! Great channel name, too... Might have to get some ideas from you on drone related videos!!
Love my Mini 2. Awesome drone. The Maven app really opens a lot more options. The follow me function works great. Enjoyed the video.
I completely agree... And yet, I still haven't played with the Maven app. I need to. Thank you!!
Wow, amazing review. Well put them together man. You should have a lot more subscribers. Well I'm looking forward to this channel
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that more than you know and thanks for following along!!
I actually feel that same anxiety that you mentioned...But I try to power through it. Great video.
Thank you! Yes, same... Sometimes you just have to out-will yourself. Still a work in progress for me. Thanks again!
I am getting a mini 2 fly more combo next week, as my 1st drone.
It's already too expensive as 1st drone imo, but hopefully it will last long time.
@@the_bogeyman. I definitely think you made the right choice then! I hope you enjoy it as much as I have!
@@BrianCatalano Thankyou. Waited years before pull the trigger, can't wait to receive it (I'll get it in few days) and go to the RC club's field try it with some club mates guidance, I must say :)
Thanks for the honest chatsdude. Wanted a drone during my motorcycle tours of Europe. I think dj 2 is the good place to start.
Excellent tip, I am looking into that now... THANK YOU!
Loved this vid ,,the passion. I have just ordered a mini 2 , so l,ooking forward to flying.. Thank you for your time and efforrt.
I really, really appreciate that... Thank you!! I hope you love the Mini 2 as much as I have!
I wish someone would do a well researched video on drone liability insurance. I know it’s a Debbie downer subject but it’s something we all need now.
That's also a great idea, and a great subject to cover that honestly I know nothing about either, so I'd watch that... But you're right, it might be a bit dull to make!
Best bang for your buck, it is one of the most flexible drone I ever use. Unlikt it's successor.

Thank you
Well done video !!
Budget is dictating the Mini 2 purchase
Seems like it will do just great for me
I really appreciate it!
Thank you so much!! I'd love to upgrade too, but pretty sure as my gear gets better, so will my anxiety!! Thanks again!
Great vid, thanks for your hard work to provide the knowledge and insight.
Thank you, I really appreciate you taking the time out to write that... Thanks again!!

If you going to Bolivia (high altitude) whats beter mini 2 or mini 3 pro?
If money wasn't an issue, I would of course pick the mini 3 Pro... Which is probably more stable in high altitudes but both sub 250g drones are decent but less ideal than the heavier new drones like mavic 3 (but that's double the cost).
@@BrianCatalano i got the money saved up, not going back to bolivia after that trip so i money is secondary. But flying close to 4 000 or even above worries me a bit.unfortunately it has to be sub 250g as i do not need any licence and permits

That's a great question... And I just made a video on how I color grade (in my edit) but maybe I can try to make a video on how I edit soon, too. However, this video was really difficult to create and edit, and I wish I could sum up an easy way to do it... What program do you use to edit?

You could have just said Vasquez Rocks in Aqua Dulce, Ca. Not really in the desert. only 15 mins away from Canyon Country.
You are right... I'm guessing you've been there or live around the area?
(There's definitely a reason I wasn't specific with all the locations I visited...)
i want to buy a drone... thinking about even buying a used one since i know i only will use it a couple of times... u can get this one already for 250 bucks used... is this a good beginner drone? i plan on making a bike biketrip and want to use it to track me from time to time.. also i want to fly up the mountains...
Anxiety levels out the house or flying ... you are my doppelganger
Ha ha! That gives me way more relief than you know. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only nervous-weirdo, so I appreciate the company!!
Frankly, I'm grateful that's the extent of my struggles and I'm not in some war torn country... or starving!

so truth dji mini 2 is awesome. it's been 2 years utilize this drone.
I know! It's crazy how relevant it still is in 2023!!!
Also, where are you in NC?
@@BrianCatalano western corner, in the mtns. and yeah, I suppose you are right; everything in it's correct portions (whatever they may be in any given situation, for any given person). but in any case... did enjoy the video. Cheers -
loved it. dji mini 2. a7c and dji pocket 2 is going to be in my travel kit.
That's a pretty perfect travel combo! Compact but completely capable!!
Thank you!
@@BrianCatalano lume cube was a nice addition it’s simple and keeps the drone at a proper weight. It sticks to the Velcro nicely.
There are still many other options than Photoshop.
@@aloeisthestuff9622 that's true! What do you use?
@@BrianCatalano I’m curious too. I only use PS because it was free and simple. I’ve tried one other and I just don’t have time to dive in deep to learn it all. PS to me is sort of like barely a step above what comes standard on most phones…..it’s just a few extra things.
@@fortyfour6626 agreed. In some instances I begin in Photoshop and end in my phone. Most of my photo editing apps are so much more intuitive than PS

Thank you... Very much appreciated!!
I just got the mini 2 with the fly more package for $350 used not bad deal
Wow! That's a crazy good deal! Hope you have as much fun with it as I have had!
Well.... that's because the price to value of this unit is incredible it became the best selling drone of all time
I have a problem.
Good luck!
The only thing that's got me on the fence is the lack of obstacle avoidance. Can anyone answer is that a deal breaker?
Great question and I hope others chime in here, but the only reason for me to have obstacle avoidance anywhere but the bottom sensors is for when using tracking, which the mini2 does innately have but can be hacked with third party apps like Litchi. Yet, even then I think as long you're not planning on trailing a subject through the forest, you're good in most instances.
It's nice to have but doesn't for me justify the added price jump with the mini3.
Excellent review Cheers
Thank you so much!!
the maximum ceiling doesnt mean much as the laws for most countries wont allow you to go that high.

That being said, the 3 or 3pro'a vertical shooting capability is amazing and if you can afford it and you are mainly wanting vertical content then it's worth considering.
