Nice video I love my dji mini 2, it's my first real drone and have been practicingon my farm for a month .I also use the freewell all day filters they really do help since I don't have a laptop for post processing.
Great video! Regarding range extenders on the Mini SE (no Occusinc), they work VERY well. I purchased a kit that came with both Yagi antennas like shown in the video, and parabolic reflectors. This kit is designed to use either/or, or at the same time. In testing them individually and together, I have learned a few things. I havnt seen much benefit in using both, but the Yagi's have proven their worth so far, and I use them every time I fly the SE. Because the Mini 2 uses Occusinc rather than enhanced wifi like the SE and Mavic Mini, it will have better connection in wifi congested areas, and probably no point in using them within LOS flights, unless the area has an exceptional amount of wifi interference.. But, with the enhanced wifi Mini's, the Yagi's drastically improve signal at LOS range in congested wifi areas, almost on par with Occusinc, as long as the antennas are pointed at the drone. As for range on my SE with the Yagi's, its great! I often fly out over the Pacific Ocean to get shots of marine wildlife, great white sharks, dolphins whales etc. I use a VERY powerful strobe that is visible to about a mile and a half in daytime, and 4 miles after sunset. I routinely fly out about a mile, maintaining LOS, searching for subjects, and havnt seen even a flicker of a lost signal using the Yagi's. The same distance at the same spot without them, I will get sporadic signal loss, especially when I turn the drone in different directions or fly below 50 feet. They simply work, and Im sure they will extend range on the Mini 2 as well, but Occusinc will already maintain connection farther than your battery will hold out in uncongested areas. However, they will improve the Mini 2 connection strength in very high interference areas around industrial areas and cities, with the only caveat being they have to be pointed right at the drone to be most effective. The bare wifi/Occusinc antennas radiate a 360 donut shaped signal in all directions, with the output being the strongest toward the flat front and rear of the antenna. The Yagi projects a narrow focused beam in one direction in addition to the donut shaped radiation. Parabolic reflector range extenders reflect the energy from the rearward half of the donut to the front, leaving a degraded dead spot behind and to the sides, with the signal radiated in a wide, more powerful beam in front. A parabolic behaves more like a shotgun providing a spread out beam, powerful at close range. A Yagi behaves more like a sniper rifle with a powerful focused beam with more penetrating power at a distance, but with the added benefit of retaining the original 360 degree donut shaped signal radiant. A good thing to have handy in the gear bag just in case.
I also noticed the area you show while hand catching your Mini, one of my FAVORITE fly spots along Pacific Coast HWY! I fly near there at least weekly. I get great video of white sharks, giant sunfish, seals, dolphins, surfers, and California Grey Whales during their annual migration. The juvenile white sharks hunt rays, and the whales will often be scratching their backs right in the surf line below where you were standing! That stretch of coastline from there, to a few miles south toward Malibu has sea life that some people spend a lifetime hoping to see someday, all right there below the busy highway that people drive every day, with no clue of the wonders that swim by unnoticed!
The pocket 2 is definitely capable of working great right out of the box - in certain situations accessories can help though! But if you don’t need any, keep it stock and use it!! Thanks for watching, dale.
Concerning the range extender for the mini 2, you don't really need one with a drone that has occu-sync 2. Your drone will auto-return from low battery before you loose signal. They might be useful for punching through buildings in a city, or through trees in the forest.
The fact that you said to make sure to CHECK that your drone is compatible with your android device shows exactly why i subbed to your channel, i've got a mini 2.. 3 months ago my galaxy s9 USB port wasn't working....my drone did not work with any of the other mobile devices in my home...i had to go and buy a new xiaomi phone to be able to use this drone......which was WORTH the buy that phone is a beast...i like that you give heads up because sometimes you get so excited you won't even think lol...if i had saw this vid before my dji mini 2 purchase i would've avoided that...
It’s a pretty common problem with android phones unfortunately. Glad I could help you out! Will keep things like this in mind for future videos. Thank you for subscribing and enjoy the mini 2!
My old drone app phone the Samsung Galaxy S5 would not run the DJI Fly app because the app requires Android ver 6 or more. I used that old phone to fly an big old Parrott Bebop I've since sold. I prefer not to use my new regular phone so I bought a cheap ATT TCL phone from Walmart for $38. One of those pre-pay things but it is a good phone for dedicated drone use. Has Android 11 on it and runs the app great. I put it in my FXT Viper goggle that has a removable FPV monitor. Snap in the phone with a 3ft cord in its place and you're free from a heavy tablet or hooded phone in bright sun. Goggles are what I'm use to as a FPV flyer. I got a DJI Mini 2 SE for a better cinema style video ability and long range with RTH. After I get use to flying high style awhile I'll be trying out the "Sport Mode". Because of the GPS holding feature I don't expect it to fly like a regular racing drone or whoop but it should be fun in not so tight lower altitude places. The gimbal can be locked to give true aircraft style horizon views aka non-cinematic experience of FPV.
awesome accessories, I have some of those you showed, But I also use Lights and strobe light for my Mavic mini, because of the weight factor I don't put them on the mini 2.
Yeah, the weight extra weight will put your drone into needing registered. I registered mine anyways so it’s all good! But if you do t want to register the mini, you’re better off flying without any accessories. Good point and thanks for watching!
Missing tablet holder: $8 comes with USB C to A short cord, rock solid on my huge Galaxy S4 TAB. Didn't say the weight of the strobe, I have one that clips on the bottom of the MM2 and can be seen from a mile in sun light, no crap sticking on the MM2 body.
I havent used skins or cases. Looking to buy some and do some testing, do you have any recommendations on which brands to start with? Which do you use? Thanks!
I had no idea motor cap covers even existed for the Mini 2, I used them for my Phantom drones since I had to take the props off to store it, but not for the mini 2. Who makes them? Would love to check them out
There's another youtube guy in Hawaii who does range tests, and with clear-ish line of sight, he flew his mini2 three miles away and still had control as well as near perfect video communication back to the phone. Perhaps the range extender is helpful if you have obstacles between you and the drone...?
I havent had any issues with the range of the Mini 2, but I typically a few hundred feet away from the RC at maximum. The range extender could be helpful in really busy wifi areas like big cities with lots of obstructions between you and the drone. As stated in the video I dont use range extenders much but some people absolutely swear by them. Just depends on what you're doing! I suspect the majority of flyers don't need the range extenders
Great video , I do have a question regarding the landing gear I bought . I purchased the sled type landing gear , it won't come off without peeling the bottom plate . Is this an error ? How do I take it off without damaging the plate on the bottom ?
Hey there, I'm not aware of any issues with the landing gear (I also don't think we have the same style of landing gear) Were you able to figure this out? Sorry for the late reply
After i used the scotty case my mini 2 said gimbal motor overloaded. I think the fine plastic dust in the case got stuck in the gimbal. Compressed air seemed to fix it but I'm going to blow & wash the case b4 using it again & also make a hole near the gimbal area of the case to see how it is positioned inside the case.
Ooh man! I don’t have these cases anymore (because of the giveaway) but they are 3D printed and there were some burrs on them from the plastic. Making sure all of those are off is a good thing to do! Sorry that happened, I’d reach out to him and let him know
Thanks for the nice tips👍. But when you use the lights then the weight of the drone exceeds 249 gramm does that have consequences ? Greetings from The Netherlands🌷
It varies depending on the country, but most (the Netherlands included!) don’t require you to register your drone if it weighs less than 250 grams. So if your accessories take you over the weight limit, you’ll technically have to register to fly it. Registration isn’t too bad though, you just pay a fee and put an identifying number on the drone. I’m very jealous that you live in the Netherlands, I’ve been and it’s a gorgeous country!
16:28 ‘hand catch your drone’ should have 2 prices- $0 for proper hand-land, ~$600 for the ‘doc in a box’ bill for getting fingers cut :) I’f folks are gonna ‘catch’ their drone I’d recommend slipping a glove on first. And yes I’ve hand-landed my mini-2.
First time I see your video haven't finished it yet still watching it and I can say that it has very good information, thank you for it.... only question that I have is if you where to purchase the Mavic air 2 and want every upgrade for it what would those upgrades be... oh can you use a 400gb sd card or 512gb?
For upgrades, I'd start with the fly more kit then add any additional accessories you think you'd need from there. Hard for me to say because I don't know your flight or filming styles. But after you know what accessories are available and fly a few times, you'll realize if something would be helpful to you. I've used a 265gb card, but thats the highest card I own. Thanks for watching and commenting, Alfonso.
@@keith-knittel thank you for the info really appreciate it... it would be the first time I would be purchasing a drone and fly one.... hope I make the right choice on the model...
Hey there, I don't think any accessories (other than the prop guards) will be beneficial for flying indoors if you're losing signal. Stay away from large metal objects or if you're still losing signal, make sure the remote is pointed towards the drone. If that isn't helping, try turning off any wifi signals that can be interfering with the mini 2. I don't think a range extender will work the way you want it (i'm assuming you're flying within 10-30 feet indoors), minimizing interference will be your best and safest bet. How is the drone not flying properly?
Dang, I just sold my Mini 2 - but I don't think it would fit into the fly more combo bag. I think it's too large even when folded up, and if you could fit it in there, there isn't much extra space for anything other than filters and another small accessory. Great question though! Thanks for watching
I’ll have to check it out! I’ve seen videos recommended to me about his bag but never got the chance to watch them yet. Thanks for the recommendation! Always looking for improvements
@@keith-knittel Hi Keith I was joking, I've just bought my mini 2 and we have through a streak of almost 20 days raining and without seein the sun in Bilbao haha I was eager to fly!
You fly around in windy areas a lot? It gets pushed around in the wind, but I've catch landed the Mini 2 plenty of times without issue. I assume you'd be able to land on the landing pad
just got my mini 2 and was flying about 400m out and it said connection to rc lost and i freaked out i wasn't sure if it was my phone signal or the drone itself...i started to move closer to the area and it finally reconnected but it was scary. it's my first drone so i was worried. I wonder if the range extender would be good in my case...i have seen videos of ppl flying over 3000m so i was so confused why i lost connection. anyway, cool video i definitely think I'll be picking up a strobe light haha
I am in a very woody area and I have flown over 1800m out. The trick is height for me. If I fly low even only 75m up I will lose signal. I did lose signal way out before but it was only video and I could use the map to orient myself to fly enough back to get video again.
The range extender may help you here, how many obstructions did you have between you and the drone? If you're in a clear path with minimal interference you'll be able to fly farther. I don't fly very far from myself (I mostly use the drone for the camera, and filming houses, buildings, boats, cars, etc) The strobe light is great for filming at civil twilight - especially sunset since the sun is going down and you lose light quickly. Thanks for watching and have fun!
I've had mine out over the sea and reached 2,380 meters before I lost the signal. I set it on auto return home and it worked. Over land in a heavily populated city here in Bali, I've reached 2,150 meters before losing the signal. I haven't pushed it past those. Generally, I stay about 1,000 meters away from home.
@@keith-knittel ahh guess this makes sense! I was at a sports park but flew over a street and neighborhood + some normal sized trees to look a nearby creek. I took it out yesterday to the beach for a sunset and was able to fly pretty far with no issues. Thank you for the reply and the tips! :)
@@sekazi ahh that might've been what happened with me cuz there were some trees but I was pretty high up just doing some limit testing since I know the area and could easily have found my drone if needed. Thanks!
For sure! A lot of people don't want a camera bag at all and store their drone in the same backpack as their other items (I think they are crazy!) but this is a great solution for them too. Thanks for watching and commenting, Cristian
I originally wanted to, but I didn’t want to make the video 45 minutes long and lose people. I’ll keep that in mind for next time though, thanks for your feedback and watching
Nd filters and camera sunshield are MUST (sd cards, batteries and backpack are not even accessory 😅) Nd filter for cinematic blur, sunshield to minimise lans flare and to protect gimbal if crashed. Nothing else matters
Haha I know where youre going with the SD cards, batteries and backpack but you'd be surprised at how many people don't have those three things. The amount of cameras/drones I've seen in passenger seats with no bag on the way to their filming spot blows my mind
@@keith-knittel oh I see it many times, even did it, interesting thing is that often ends with some problem, something missing, something is broken, if not it will be soon... I have normal backpack and hardcase in it, often back in a van with other equipment, and it's perfectly safe
The link to Amazon to purchase the tablet holder is inaccurate. It points me to a product that does not fit the DJI Mini 2. The product it directs you to is for the Mavic Air 2. As a result I am not returning it to Amazon. Please fix.
Hey there Rich, you can use the tablet holder that I've linked in the description of this video for the Mini 2. The Mavic Air 2 and the Mini 2 have the same design controller. I've used it before, but just to triple check myself, I just put the adapter into the controller again. It fits with my iPad. The top bar to support the iPad rests on the top part of the phone / controller clamp but it fits and is usable
@@keith-knittel unfortunately no. My mistake. I see the sell it for 13.00 on amazon. and on extra battery 53.00 but also saw a quick charger for about 43.00 don't know it it really work. .

It still records and saves in to my sd, i just cant view what i recorded until i put the sd card into my laptop, If i shoot in 2.7 it works fine. Not until i choose 4k to record, thats when i go to hit the record button it freezes until im done recording. I use a samsung galaxy a53. Hey there Leo, prop guards are a really handy tool especially if youre flying indoors. I have them but never use them as I mostly fly my drone outside and away from people but they can be helpful especially flying around people or indoors or in tight spaces.
My friend told me to catch his drone and i was kinda scared that the propeller were gonna eat my fingers so he catches it him self yeah i know you supposed to catch it on the bottom
I've heard a lot of horror stories about people flying drones in strong winds and not getting them back, most were with the Mavic Mini. Not trying to say you shouldn't fly when there is a little bit of wind, but newer users of the Mini drones might struggle to get their drones back if the wind gusts are too strong. Thanks for watching
I don‘t like the trend of youtubers repeating things over and over again just to extend the length of their videos. The content is okay, nothing new if you follow similar channels, but could have been said in less than half the time.
A travel youtuber who is not passionate about gear but rather about the message she spreads and is terrified about learning how to use new technologies like me.
Got my Scotty's cases today. The drone holster does not fit and therefore you can't close that latch. The battery case latch won't and the battery pullers don't. The remote case barely fits. Empty it closes easy with the remote it's a squeeze down to latch. Not recommended since it costs around $70 to return. $110 wasted. Sigh. To their credit they replied to my email. "Sorry to hear you're unhappy with your order. The drone case is easy to help you with. It's been designed to be used without the gimbal protector as the props and the case do the protecting." Dunno if I like the gimble exposed but it does look like it is protected in the case. Sent them a vid of the battery charger cover issue.
Hey there - thats how my cases were too, they were tight but they did latch down. I didn't use the gimbal guard with the case since the case will protect the gimbal, but if they arent latching at all that sounds like you may have gotten a bad case. He should replace them if they arent working as intended. The cases are 3D printed, so they should all be identical. I gave mine away, but they were able to latch when I was using them. Any word from Scotty?
Why are you suggesting a Range Extender in a video that is titled "BEST DJI Mini2 2 accessories" and then say "Honestly, I don't think you really need one of these"? This destroys any credibility of your recommendation.
Hey there Andrew, understand where you're coming from but I get a lot of emails/DMs about range extenders (and every other accessory out there) and what is available. I don't typically use range extenders ,as stated in the video, but this is one that exists so I decided to include it. I did used it a few times to make sure it worked, but again I don't fly far enough away to use the range extender's capabilities
Prop holder folks is a RIP.......meaning dont waist your money on that ridiculous price point to protect your propellers. I use clear plastic small bag for the drone an then I pull the plastic tight around the drone by spinning the plastic bag end before sliding it in my case and then in my bag. Bag costs 26 cents
A lot of android phones arent supported for some reason. I'm not sure why, but I've received a lot of messages from very upset android users. Definitely something to check out before you purchase

Good Job Keith !!
Yea you just got my follow. Im new to this life and loving it so far.

Concerning the range extender for the mini 2, you don't really need one with a drone that has occu-sync 2. Your drone will auto-return from low battery before you loose signal. They might be useful for punching through buildings in a city, or through trees in the forest.
Thankyou for sharing the links to the dudes shop.. his things are Awsome 🥳👍

Try the Firehouse Arc White 4 led strobe on your Mini 2. Only weighs about .6g. If you weigh your Mini 2 you'll find out it only weighs about 238g.
Brilliant video. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it - thanks for the kinds words
Missing tablet holder: $8 comes with USB C to A short cord, rock solid on my huge Galaxy S4 TAB. Didn't say the weight of the strobe, I have one that clips on the bottom of the MM2 and can be seen from a mile in sun light, no crap sticking on the MM2 body.
The tablet holder is a great idea! And which strobe do you have? Would like to check that one out

I think you missed something like, silicone case for remote and drone wrap/skin
I have a silicone skin/case for my remote and that’s good spent money.
Great point! I'll have to do some research and see what I can come up with!
I havent used skins or cases. Looking to buy some and do some testing, do you have any recommendations on which brands to start with? Which do you use? Thanks!
would you use any filters for drone photogrammetry mapping?
my skyreat filters attach the same way these do and i never ever had a issue with them falling off they stay on snug at any speed
Hello keith,
Does using motor cap cover for the mini 2 will effect its flying or increase the motor temperature?

Is there an accessory for the mini two that connects to the insta360 one x while flying?
The Care is a must for the Mini due no obstacle avoidance system
Just don’t crash it

Wouldnt recommend anything over 256GB for your card, youre putting too many eggs in one basket ;)
What accessory should I buy to be able to fly my drone indoors without losing signal and not becoming unstable? I have the DJI Mini 2
What is a good nd filter for videos?
Does the landing pad fit in the Mini 2 Fly More Combo bag?
Dang, I just sold my Mini 2 - but I don't think it would fit into the fly more combo bag. I think it's too large even when folded up, and if you could fit it in there, there isn't much extra space for anything other than filters and another small accessory. Great question though! Thanks for watching
Thanks for the quick response! And thank you for the video 🙂 trying to figure out a compact solution for hikes.
You know I love my d j I mini 2 se. But what I really want is a bright r c plane
I would recommend Peter McKinnons bag, it's still in development but it's really the best for a serious photographer :)

Is there an umbrella for the mini2?? I live in North Spain (Bilbao)
Like to fly on rainy days? I don’t think anything like that exists
@@keith-knittel Hi Keith I was joking, I've just bought my mini 2 and we have through a streak of almost 20 days raining and without seein the sun in Bilbao haha I was eager to fly!
I've never managed or seen the mini 2 land exactly on the landing pad.

Hey quick comment, the mini 2 has no internal storage, however, can't you use your devices storage to record if your sd card gets filled up?
Only way to do that is screen record on your phone ...but then you see all the stuff you'd see when flying instead of just flying footage ...

It's been designed to be used without the gimbal protector as the props and the case do the protecting."
Dunno if I like the gimble exposed but it does look like it is protected in the case.
