I am from Colorado, and many people don't know this, but Stephen King came up with the idea to write the Shining when he stayed at "The Stanley Hotel" in Estes Park, Colorado on vacation. And, that hotel is very similiar in a way to The Overlook Hotel in Mount Hood where Kubrick filmed.
When Doctor Sleep came out, I was astounded at how accurate the interior of The Overlook was recreated using the actual blueprints that Kubrick used in 1980. I REALLY wanna see someone create a permanent exhibition of the interior and allow fans to tour it. It would seriously be a dream come true!
You deserve a lot of credit for making these wonderful videos…. Both of your hosting and editing and pure education that comes with all of your videos I am a huge fan and really appreciate your work I surely hope that you read this comment because I just really wanted to compliment you on the awesome job that you both do!!!!!
I love your channel, I love the way u tell the story during filming the place. Not mention you’re always so respectful with the place’s policy (the drone thing ). Such a gentleman!!!
I have watched "The Shining" so many times and never noticed the Hedge Maze wasn't there! Lol! You and Jessica do such a wonderful job on these videos! I just love watching them and you two are the best couple ever! Your videos are so fun to watch! Looking forward to more from you two. ❤❤
You know guys, I’ve been a viewer for awhile and I think that the chemistry you two have is amazing! It’s beautiful to watch how gentle you are with each other. It’s a pleasure watching you two! The snowball fight was too cute! Keep inspiring! 🇺🇸🙌🏻🌻
The open display of affection you guys show to each other during these videos is so awesome. With so much ugliness in the world it just melts my heart when I see you two like that.
Well , that is what you call compatibility. Most couple nowadays are not compatible so they don't hang out well and don't last long. They just want sex and not be alone and mess up over and over and over again !!!
Tremendous respect to the carer, assisting the person in a non motorized wheelchair. Creating access, at such a unique place, can only come from the heart.
My stepdad has been to that Lodge! It was many years ago now, but he used to go skiing often. He and his friend took a trip to Oregon one year (back in the 90’s) and made a point to check the place out and ski. They had lunch at the Lodge and both of them told me the interior looked much like it did in The Shining and there was very few people inside when they ate there, so it definitely had an eerie vibe about it. I loved the book and the movie, though the book was definitely different. I’ve been a Stephen King fan since I was a pre-teen. He inspired me to become a writer! The music from the movie remains to be the creepiest of any film I’ve seen to date and the story in both forms still freaks me out! It’s very cool that you two made it there. It’s on my list of places to visit! I always enjoy your video adventures. Keep it up and safe travels to you both! 🌹
OMG. I cannot take any more EXCITEMENT from this channel. The Fog, Salem's Lot, and now, The Shining movie locations. You are hitting it out of the park. I love these movies, A LOT. And you getting to the locations, and taking us along with you, is amazing. THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH.
You know what.? I love Jessica cos she's so calm quiet, she's not over acting and most of it she's with you in every of your video.👍👍. Keep em coming film locations. 👍🙏
I seen this movie when I was at the Junior Olympics nationals for boxing in 1980 at squaw valley Olympic training center. I lost in the semi finals and depressed, my coach took me to see this movie in town. Brings back great memories. I miss those days…. I miss my youth
I stayed in Hood River a few years ago and knew I couldn't resist driving down to the southern flanks of Mt Hood just to visit the Timberline Lodge; very crowded parking at the Lodge itself, but beautiful drive up to it and the scenery around Mt Hood was amazing.
The interior of Kubrick’s Overlook was architecturally and design based on the Ahwahnee hotel in Yosemite. The lobby, elevators etc. looks identical to the Kubrick Overlook.
I was just going to ask about doing a Shining locations video and here it is ! Very cool. One of the best movies ever and not just horror movies. Stanley Kubrick was a masterful film maker and perfectionist and this is one of the few movies that did the book justice.
I live up in this general area. It’s so pretty isn’t it? If you get a chance to go up Mt st Helen’s you should do it. Is hella creepy. And the drive up was designed for maximum views of how beautiful it is. Be safe and have fun. Really loving your vids.
Aww you guys … this is awesome.. I just hoped on over from my buddy’s Scott’s video .. love watching your videos before bed here in Manchester … have fun guys great video ❤️
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh what memories!!! I’ve actually been there during the short time I lived in Portland in my mid twenties. I visited the Timberline Lodge during snow season and omg there was literally a wall of snow on either side of the drive up. The pine trees were buried almost to the tips of the trees. Mount Hood!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 My friend I was with told me about the connection with The Shining, was super cool!
I just discovered your channel, my dear and most beloved son. I am glad with your The Shinning videos but I am disappointed (just as Mr Grady) to fing out that the movie sets were created and we're not part of the hotel. One of my dreams was to drive (all the movie's road) till the Overlook hotel and stay there.
One of my favorite movies-I know Kubricks version wasn’t always real true to the book, but I think he did a great job with the hour & a half he had. Scatman Crothers acting was amazing, too.
Man, I just wanted to pop in real quick and say I love your content. There's nothing else quite like it on UA-cam. I wish you much success and growth on your channel. Happy Halloween!
I'm glad you were able to get here. I stayed here with my Mum on a trip in 2012. It is a lovely hotel, & the staff were very nice. I did check out room 217 knowing the reason why it was changed too. I felt staying here there is a certain mood to it that I could see why Kubrick chose this place. Thanks for sharing.
Omg YES! Thank you for making this! The shining is one of my favorite movies and i would kill to go to the filming locations myself! But i live in Norway, so it's not that easy for me haha. Again, thanks! And i love all your location videoes :D
This is awesome! I live right by the establishing shot location for the Torrance's Boulder apartment I did a video on my channel for the location. Heres a trivia fact, the Colorado Lounge was formerly used for Raiders of the Lost Ark, it was the interiors for the Well of souls set. Anyway thank you.
I love this channel and I love you guys, you have great vibes. 👍 Good luck from Ireland 🇮🇪. Btw, even though filming happened in a totally different country, I still got “The Shining” vibes from this location.
This is by far my FAVORITE horror film. This is so exciting seeing this!!! I hope you guys go to the Ahwahnee hotel for the inside of the movie. Please 🙏
It was entirely intentional and meant to disorient the viewer, many of the rooms are physically impossible as well as several of the hallways (in Ulmans office it has a window looking outside but if you watch the background you see that there would be a hallway where that window view would be)
@@donufro It’s Stanley Kubrick. Though it’s something of a joke these days that all of his films get overanalysed to death, I can assure you that is absolutely an intentional element given how meticulous he was with details. Several lengthy videos analysing the film will easily convince you of the notion. All of the interior stuff is sets, which means it’s all designed from the ground up. That’s why genuine continuity and spatial errors stick out like a sore thumb in his films once you notice them. If he wanted a hedge maze outside the hotel exterior, he would have fought tooth and nail to have one arranged.

I love these types of videos. Speaking of Stephen King I just watched another video yesterday with the narrator giving a tour of Ferndale, California which is where they filmed Salem's Lot. It still looks the same after nearly forty years.
You two are perfect together. It's obvious you are very good to her and we can see the adoration you have for her. Your videos are great I'm recently new to your channel and i really like the things you cover cuz it's mostly from my generation
Fun fact: the interiors of the movie hotel were an exact copy (even the elevators) of the Ahwhanee Hotel in Yosemite Park. So if you guys get down that way again, you can see the interiors.
All of the National Park's Grand Mountain Lodges where built by the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) young 18-25 un-employed men back in the depression.
So the Stanley Hotel in Colorado is the inspiration for the book. The Timberline Lodge in Oregon was the exterior inspiration and the Ahwhanee Hotel is the interior inspiration - all of which was rebuilt at Pinewood Studios (I think?) in the UK for the movie? That’s really interesting and cool. The documentary Kubrick’s daughter shot discussed all of this, I believe.
AWESOME video footage of one of my favorite horror movies! GREAT shots of the OVERLOOK HOTEL and ski resort. I would love to have that ax! Thanks for sharing this very INTERESTING video!
I've watched this film I don't know how many times and I never noticed that Jack is looking at a Playgirl magazine while waiting to speak with Ullman and Watson.
Loving your trip thru Oregon. Timberline was the first place I ever skied. Btw..... the cost for a room back then was about $70/night(a high school buddy working the desk resulted in a significant discount). Grimm for Life!
Great video, thanks for sharing!!! Jessica, you are funny, especially with your 'squishing' towards the end of the video!!! You both do a great job!!! Keep the videos coming!!!!

Awesome video man! Didn’t know Kubrick changed so much so it was cool to pick apart the differences. Keep up the great work, love binging all your videos
It’s crazy watching this because when you taped this last year we were having 100° weather and forest fires. And this year it’s still snowing on the mountain as of a couple days ago.
Great movie. I'm 51 and I still get the creeps when they show the Grady twins standing at the end of the hallway. "Hello Danny. Come and play with us. Forever, and ever, and ever."

Actually the interior of this Hotel in Oregon is completely different than interior shots in the movie. Interior shots were based on another hotel.
