Nicely done dude! It’s always nice when people take the time to show each step in series. This was literally a step -by-step guide that will help many people. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this!
pretty good write up/vid...one thing for those that havent done this...the bulb he is referring to at 10:20 is a dual filament. It has 2 circuits, it doesnt simply get brighter..it has a second filament in the bulb. One for running lights, one for brake lights and a second bulb for turns. This whole system is an import system and is different than many domestic cars and trucks where the turn/brake is one filament, and the running lights or tails are the other, but all in one bulb. Imports use seperate bulbs for the turns and brakes, hence why a converter is needed to begin with. The trailer light uses the domestic type system where the brake/turn filament is on one circuit and the running light is the other filament, so one bulb for all three. Toyota and other imports use 2 bulbs for the same job and thats why we need a converter...to convert the two bulbs (vehicle) to one bulb (trailer). Some good info in this video but it didnt help my situation due to the fact that I bought a universal converter, not a plug and play like the op did. Good job!!
check if turn signals on harmess both go to 12v when stepping on brake. the signal lights and brake lights will be same on trailer. for testing purpose
If you don't want to spend $60 on a wiring harness, Hopkins 48847 will work for the separate brake light problem. You'll need to connect some wires but if you have already bought the regular harness this will only add $20 to the total. I have a 2004 Tacoma 2.4L 2WD and the 48847 worked on my truck. I already had the quick connect ends on my harness and there was a red wire coming off the driver-side connector. This is important for the 48847 to work.
Quick questions for you; I have a 97 4Runner and have lost my rear running light. That being said, my trailer harness broke off at the base quite some time back and never had any form of tail light related failure. I recently swapped my bulbs (brake/turn/reverse) out for LEDs and after about a week I had no rear running lights. Tried putting my factory bulbs back in place and nothing. Turn signals work fine, reverse lights work but blink 3 times when reverse is engaged (might have sent me a flash led), and brake lights work. Can’t pass inspection and I’m going to get a ticket eventually just no clue what to do. Next question, where did you buy this kit at? Thanks in advance, wiring is my weak suit!
Isn't there usually two different filaments in those bulbs? If so one can be for running lights and the other Is for the brake "switch". If it's that way then they would share the common.

12:50 when someone steps on the brake, your yellow and green on the 4 flat will now be hot, the brown is now running lights only on the 4 flat
does anyone have a link to the one they used?
Thank you
