I'm a Muslim but Brandon was there to promote their new album not to be questioned for his faith. He is a humble man and it's not like he was shoving his religion on others or causing harm to anyone. He was just minding his own business. They stupidly asked him on his faith the WHOLE interview and wasted his time and he didn't even talk a single minute of the album. If he came to see Dawkins he wasn’t there to talk about his music. 😂 He knew who this man is. It’s sad that in this day and age with the information we have today some still cling to dogma. I understand in poor strict countries like the Middle East because they haven’t had the education of western nations. I, like Dawkins am tired of it. Look what these evangelical nuts are doing in America today.
The Mormons I have met and made friendships with amaze me with their work ethic and generosity of spirit. They certainly count their blessings every day.
The moment they start regurgitating their doctrine they are con men and party to all the damage that cult has caused to humanity. Organized religion is the greatest evil enacted upon mankind.

The problem with being attacked is person attacking is always prepared and the person attacked is often caught off guard and not in a mind set to debate. Like this case where Brandon came to talk music. The truth is that the Book of Mormon was translated into English. If I wanted to translate the word ‘place’ and chose ‘site’ or ‘location’ Dawkins would say I’ve done it wrong and this the entire book is false. Sometimes intelligence is your own worst enemy. Carry on Brandon. You’re fine.
That reporter was so rude to Brandon who is honestly practicing his faith. And then he says “When I read the BOM… *whispers* I didn’t read it all….” What a joke lol. He thinks he’s done research after reading 1 page?
Read the witnesses testimony even the main three witnesses (Oliver kowdery, Martin Harris and David Whitmer)that and even to their deaths, never recanted their testimonies of the book being real and from God.
@@geraldcroft9020 Do you think that that is a good way of determining truth? Just because someone sticks to a story doesn't make it true. Also, Martin Harris even said that he nor any of the other 3 or 8 witness actually viewed the plates physically. He said they were viewed through their "spiritual" eyes in a vision or imagination and that they were reluctant to sign the witness. This comes from the Church's own source, the Joseph Smith Papers, Letterbook 2, page 64. The Church's history isn't as well put together as sunday school manuals would have you believe.
Plenty are? Like, way less suspect? And I don't believe any of them, but certainly Mornonism highly suspect and ridiculous to even the casual researcher on the subject
I understand why you may think that, however, once you understand the doctrines and tenets of most mainstream religions, there are very clear divisions between Mormonism and other religions. Indeed they share plenty of commonalities but Mormonism is an extremely new, modern religion -- its roots aren't shrouded in historical uncertainties like Christianity for example, whose books have been selected, curated, and modified by powerful people through the ages (ie. King James Bible). Like Richard says, it's quite clearly a 19th century creation. It's much easier to critically assess Mormon claims about reality, as we have access to far more verifiable information due to its recency. We can also critically assess Joseph, his life and his motives. Mormons make historical claims about North America, historical figures who supposedly lived here hundreds or thousands of years ago -- which are easily debunked by science.
@@thomaseast2842 Exactly! You can't just pull stuff out of the Bible and make your own Bible, religion and become a prophet. The Church of Latter-day Saints Mormons are a cult and if you don't abid by what they say and do then you'll be excommunicated. I know some that have. God is very merciful and nobody is allowed to say who can and can't worship him in his house.
If someone’s faith is truly firm and strong, they should be less likely to feel offended by opposing views or criticisms. Getting easily offended might indicate insecurity or a lack of confidence in their faith.

I'm now like, a very chill agnostic-ish-catholic-ish guy who understands that religious belief is such a uniquely personal thing, and that it and the way it plays into our lives is way more complicated than shit stirrers like Dawkins give it credit for. Dawkins wants desperately to be perceived as this wise man running around waking people up to some 'reality' but at the end of the day he's working with an insane level of luck and privilege to be able to sit in his ivory tower and issue edicts as to how regular people should grapple with the mystery of existence. He tries to make it about acts committed in the name of religion but those same acts have been committed in the name of the state, hatred, love and any number of other reasons people do bad things. If he truly cared about the plight of people in oppressive regimes he wouldn't spend so much time mocking those born into faith but addressing the problems head on. Contrary to his belief that getting paid to give speeches to hoighty toighty folks is helping anyone but him, it's not. @hgm26 His point was that the BoM was written in Elizabethian English while everyone in America spoke American English. But he missed the part where everyone in America had access to the Bible, which was written in Elizabethian English. Not to mention, he lied about Joseph Smith being convicted. He never was. And Joseph Smith didn't plagurize the Bible, he quoted it. As did many authors in the New Testament when they quoted Prophets of the Old Testament.
@hgm26 a valid case by accusers that was so valid that he was never convicted. So, exactly how valid was the case? The Mormons at that time had no government or political allies, so the case had to be pure conjecture for an opposing judge and jury to reject it. Sure, that is what happens when you quote something, it is word for word, just like when the New Testament authors quoted the old Testament Prophets. In the 1830s there was only one widely used version on the Bible, the kjv. The BoM is written in the same language as the kjv Bible because it is scripture just like the Bible. So it would be no surprise that a translation of scripture like the Bible was written in the same style as the Bible.

You're are right actually. Dawkins was actually embarrassed and apologised to Brandon when he realised that he was there to just promote the band. That's why Dawkins seemed overly aggressiv. The host should have clarified this to Richard.
What boggles me is that people in the original comment section of the video clown Brandon for stuttering and defending his faith but don't clown Richard for debating on faith on an interview supposed to be about music.
@@vegitoda4738 Did you watch the video? Brandon Flowers was asked his opinion and gave it. He voluntarily entered the conversation.

Why even being up his religion? And you need to see Brandon's interview after this where he said that he didn't know he was gonna be questioned about his religion and that he made some good points but they cut it out. And why even have a debate with a normal follower rather than a priest/preacher who knows more about the religion and can make his point of view clear?
I'm not religious but what is the point of destroying this young man's religious beliefs? From a personal perspective I would only do it out of jealousy.

Kid to tenured Theologian: You should do your research…
One sentence explanation:
Mormonism is a religion crafted by dudes, for dudes.
Theologian - your book doesn't match how people spoke, Intelligent person - but it does match how people read, i.e. the Bible was available long before 1800.
