I think it was Ronni that had a cassette of the opening chords that he had worked on several years before even meeting Brandon and Brandon has a story how he listened to it in, I think it was maybe a Subaru he drove at the time, and being in love with it immediately.
Almost correct. It was Dave (the guitarist) who had the cassette of the chords. Ronnie (the drummer, wouldn't join the band for another year after Brandon and Dave met). And it was Brandon's 1992 Geo Metro that he first played it not a Subaru.

Ahhh I love that they sang a Travis song at their first gig… Then when I saw Brandon on his first solo tour, he was touring with the Lead singer of Travis, Fran Healy. He is also a humble and lovely man, like Brandon (but with a Scottish accent and he’s hilarious). Such a fantastic double bill that I was incredibly lucky to see. Especially since I saw them in Denver… I’m from New Zealand and I started driving at 4am that morning from Moab and my car broke down in Gypsum, so had to be towed more than 100 miles over the snowy mountains to Denver.
