Mihawk's mentality is basically it's lonely at the top. He's bored with life, and looking for something to alleviate it. He saw something in Zoro and decided on a whim to spare him to see if he grows into something special.
"Nami is working for Garp."
That's right, she went through all this trouble stealing a map from the Marines so she could give it back to the Marines. 😂😂😂
*What a twist*
🤣
Look, we’re offering commentary. It’s not always good commentary, and it doesn’t always include logic. If we thought more, we would probably not say half the things we say and… what was I talking about? -Sean
No one's blaming ya but its a little enjoyable for us OP nerds. We all have crazier theories then that at one point, and currently. @@TheFandomTroupe
Wait.. that's actually making so much sense lol
23:42 If Mihawk wanted to kill him, Zoro wouldn't have lasted long enough to give last words.
Instead he dumped him at deaths door and told him that the rest was up to him.
Mihawk isn't a bad guy - he's just incredibly bored. That's the downside to being the best.
Guy in the leather jacket simping for Sanji is so relatable lol. And I also felt the vibes between Sanji and Luffy, the chemistry was CRAZY, it felt like every time they talked something else was bout to happen 💀💀.
I can understand if someone that doesnt know the anime thinks something going on in some scenes between nami and zoro. But Luffy? He's the purest kid in the world, he would never think about something sexual
Honestly you got to see the actors in real life. The guy who plays Sanji is really affectionate especially with the guy who plays Luffy
@@blerdywifey Yeahh, they seem to be the closest amongst the cast in real life, and that translates really well into onscreen chemistry
@@aqsw57 I don’t believe anyone thinks something is ACTUALLY gonna happen between any of them. I’m just talking about the insane chemistry that makes you doubt a little lol.
Literally me
Yeah I feel you, Taz!Sanji is soooooooo ATTRACTIVE!
Think of it simply. If Garp had to follow the rules, he’d HAVE to execute his grandson.
Not really. The marines don't tend to execute pirates unless they're trying to make a statement with it. If they capture pirates alive the marines are more likely to imprison them. We do get to see one of their largest, most notorious prisons later in the series (I don't think they ever mention any others, but I have to assume there's more than one) and given the glimpse of the people we see alive inside, there's no way that execution is a usual punishment.
@@MorenaEvensong well considering what he does for the rest of the series for other countries, he'd be the perfect example for executing to make a statement. [spoiler] hence why garp was testing him, he had to see for himself if luffy would be okay. "you're on your own" meaning he has no control over who chases him and how they go about it. cue in the character teased at the end credits of the final episode.
@@joohoneybun For later in the series? Yes, Luffy would definitely be someone the World Government might want to execute to make a statement... though they might just make him quietly disappear so they don't have to explain WHY they're executing him. Either way, we're not talking about the rest of the series here and Luffy hasn't done any of that yet. I understood what Garp was saying and why he said he was testing Luffy. My point is that AT THIS STAGE in their journey, Garp wouldn't be required to jump to execution even if he were following the rules, because the Marine wouldn't care about some no name rookie pirate from the weakest sea. And, again, when we do see one of their jails, some of the people in there actually would have merited execution, and yet they're still alive -- though arguably imprisonment there might just be worse than death so there's that.
"he is a cop" lmfao
"Not his ship" lmfaoooo
25;29 The actor, Taz Skylar - he was born and grew up in the Canary Islands in Spain so he speaks Spanish fluently, but his dad is Lebanese and his mum's English (from Yorkshire), and he's spent the last few years in London (starred in a off-West End play he co-wrote called 'Warheads' that got nominated for an Olivier award (basically Englands version of a Tony Award)). Some reckon his accent sounds more Southern London (there's a variety of accents in London depending on who you're talking to).
thank you for that insight! cool to know he was a theatre guy- all of us met in college for theatre lol -austin
Garp to me is a Chaotic Good, like all the the Monkey D.s
Garp it's your family again!
Its hilarious how the new ppl are seeing Garp as bad, while the veterans know but can't tell for sure. Goes to show how good of a twist it is at the end.
Guys, the first man to be shot down wasn't Higuma, the leader of the bandits who was holding Luffy.
The first to die was one of the bandits, who was *ARMED, SCREAMING* and *RUNNING TOWARDS SHANKS.*
That's when Lucky Roux shot him.
That's the very definition of legitimate defense.
In such a situation, it doesn't matter in the slightest how physically strong the attacked was.
I'm just saying who provoked the first kill? 🤷🏿♂️
Nah, @titus knows he’s on the wrong side of history here! -Sean
The Hispanic guy is right, Shanks commited murder, but tbh, if you're going to use good vs bad dynamic in one piece world, then every single one of them is a bad person, starting with luffy himself, period XD Great reaction guys, and I love your discussions after each episode.
Who tf does the editing cause its hilarious. The naruto “you are my friend” song poppin up had me laughing out loud like an insane person
!! thanks! i showed sean and it went completely over his head-he hasn't seen shippuden yet 😅 -austin
Debating the real world repercussions of Shanks crew manhandling the bandits is so funny. Its even from the past episodes so this is hilarious. 😅😅😅
He is thinking too hard for a live action adaptation to one of the most bonkers manga/anime of all time.
Sean your old man's voice accent doing southern Garp is perfect 😂
Thanks, it’s a specialty of mine 😅 -Sean
So rewatch the Shanks fight- the guy that gets shot pulls out his sword and starts to charge. Self-defense! Not to mention, all of that was to stop a bandit from murdering a child, so there's that, too.
Love the reaction, keep up the good work!
Respectfully, Shanks walked up on the scene and provoked that man to attack him. I love em really, buuuuut man did something cold blooded in the name of friendship😂😂
Mihawk is too cool.
Ep 5 the Bombastic introduction feast of this Season..
Baratie's intro coming from the fog, along with that Beautiful music💯
Sanji's intro all upto him taking the order and his dream of All Blue..he killed it.
Zeff..so accurate.
Mihawk..Freaking Mihawk..Now thats an episode
dude sanji might b my fav live action straw hat, such a good introduction! -austin
I think the director wanted the toss on the sand and to seem more angry to people who don't know the full story. If I had to trust anyone's actions in one piece it would be Garps. If I ever have a grandson who tries to stab his eye because he wants to be a pirate 😐 no playing pirate
Imagine being a captain of a police precinct and you hear your grandson dreams of being a member of a gang.
“If I had to trust anyone’s actions in One Piece, it would be Garp’s”. My feelings exactly. Dude has a solid sense of Justice and he’s clearly not worried about anybody stopping him.
@@RobertJohnson-nz3xm and does a face tattoo to look gangstuh
I saw the thumbnail and click the video SOOOOOOO fast!
Love watching you guys!
This is so encouraging to hear! I guess we'll keep making videos. -Sean
Uh... keep in mind with Garp, he has an entire vessel that is looking at him at all times. He has an image to maintain. A lot of the corruption comes from within the world government, so it wouldn't look right if Garp made questionable choices for himself. That being said, he obviously DOES make some questionable choices, but they are generally within the scope of "shut up and look the other way" kind of things. What you see here is him calling out a favor, he said in this episode "bring him back alive". Mihawk is his own entity, remember that. Even if Mihawk says "im gonna kill you" it's not Garps order for that. It will make sense eventually what the goals and direction is. He is a vast character that has tons of story himself, as well.
Rule of thumb for this show, and seriously, even the veteran that's at Dressrosa or wherever, if you dont understand it, that's because you don't have all the pieces of the puzzle yet. Remember over a thousand episodes. Everything gets touched on.
The world of one piece has a mixture between modern and old technologies that changes between countries and islands, some islands might look a lot modern and others are the complete opposite depending on the culture and overall landscape
15:59 Garp basically IS Luffy - he's older, meaner, squarer and on the other side of the law, but he and Luffy are basically the same.
you just listed all the reasons they're not the same at all lmao
may look Mario Luffy outfit but they are all colour spreads in the Manga That Oda does. Taz that plays Sanji worked his ass off which show on his Instagram doing kick and cooking which he learnt for this role which he cooked for the production team. Also the guy who plays Milhawk has a couple things he posted doing the voice like one we the guy who plays Zoro
I’ve seen some stuff that showed off how into it the cast got. I really love that for them. It must have been a great experience to work with such passionate people! -Sean
Really? 'You are my friend'?! 😂
And "Gon x Hisoka moment"...on point 💯
You all are the best. 🏴☠
And Garp has no oath in his own crazy head, he just is a man of the system cooking, he's legit a marine though. He lives by his own system within the system and is allowed to do that. Same as Mihawk and Shanks in their pirate system. Calls on the fly.
yay glad you liked that! thanks for always showing up! and I agree, garp is dope -austin
On the topic of Garp and Shanks you guys touched part of it with the police and criminal distinction, but something to remember is that Luffy and Shanks as very atypical for how pirates are in the world. Gary has spent decades fighting them as they commit heinous crimes and terrorize everyday people. He was there in EP 1 where "the king of the pirates" was caught and executed so he knows that the life puts a target on Luffys back not matter how good he actually is. The government/marines don't tend to look the other way just because a pirate is a nice person, declaring yourself a pirate is a deadly crime in the OP world.
Also right on the point that trying to 1 to 1 how we view our world won't work. Things in the OP world work differently.
I buy all of this. I feel bad for Garp cause he really seems to care. And I have got to stop getting hung up on reality haha -Sean
Soooo great talk after the episode ❤
I think those guys misunderstood what happened in the flashback. First off those bandits Shanks killed kidnapped Luffy and were gonna kill him for insulting them. Shanks was protecting his friend lol. not that I think shanks would mind being called a murderer, he is a pirate after all.
Also Fyi There was a scene from the flashback that was in the anime that clarifies things, but It got cut from the live action so you guys may want to check that out in the near future.
I'm loving these discussions afterwords. Can't wait to see more haha
Love these reactions. I’m so impatient for the next eps!
that makes me so happy! i feel like i'm getting more efficient with the editing every video so hopefully soon we can start getting these out a bit quicker! -austin
@@auxzmoron you’ll definitely speed up with practice! But I also know how much effort it is so I appreciate your hard work/time cause it’s definitely bringing me a lot of joy!
Regarding that situation with Shanks and killing, the LA skipped an exchange there, in which Shanks more or less says "pulling a weapon out is not for threats, but action, and we will respond to action with action"
Nice quote! I’ll look for it in the anime. Or is that from the manga? Guess I’ll find out soon enough! -Sean
@@TheFandomTroupe well, it's not really the quote, it's just vagely its meaning.
Bean bean bean, i hope you find your comfy spot 🥰😂
they do have money, especially Nami. and they weren't rly loyal to Luffy at that point (and it's always funny to see their captain being inactive for a day while working as a chore boy 😂). anw, despite being skeptical w/ the music before, now I'm the same as Titus whenever Luffy's theme playing!
I paid such little attention to the music! I’ll have to think about it more while I’m rewatching. -Sean
I think you guys should dress Beans up as a straw hat.
I'm SO glad Sanji is less of a perverted creep in the live action but he still keeps that fuccboi energy
ur guys' reactions are so funny lol
Can’t wait for this bunch to meet Bon Chan
MORE! liked and subbed.
Lets be honest his a rubber guy. You can throw him around, it won't hurt him.😅
Idk why, but I always think of Pinocchio when people start to discuss logic in a reality where we are already detached from reality. Like, cmon, the guy is made of wood, you can’t get hung up on the little things haha -Sean
0:57 That's an interesting guess. Nami stole the Grand line map from the Marine bc she works with the Marine.
I may not be the brightest, but I’m not the sharpest either. -Sean
Good reaction, so epic
22:56 Wounds on your back means that you turned around and ran away during a fight. Or it means you attacked someone when they weren't looking.
Either way, it means you're a coward.
I try to hide the gay fact one piece is homosexual until skypeia during the montblanc norland spoiler.
20:53 Hey you don't think they hand out titles like 'Worlds Greatest Swordsman' or 'Warlord' for free do you?
The first mate thing - I'm really glad it's clearly stated here because in the anime Zoro just sort kind of... got the job by default 😅
In the crew he was the FIRST to be recruited, and as far as Marines are concerned, Zoro's the second strongest after Luffy the Captain and the most publicly known and active crew member (usually alongside Luffys antics lol), so they're like "yeah if Luffy's the captain his swordsman Zoro gotta be the first mate".
So I'm watching the anime and yeah, it's pretty much been established he's the first mate, but all the while I'm like "wait but has it ever actually officially been stated in canon he's the first mate or it just sort of.. happened?"
Zoro has never been assigned as the first mate. There is no first mate/vice captain amongst the strawhats. That’s what makes them special from other crews-there’s no hierarchy. Under Luffy’s command, everyone else is equal and as equally important. I don’t know why they decided to go this route for the live action.
I heard Luffy was the first mate?? Isn’t Usopp the captain?
@@TheFandomTroupe No HAHAH Luffy is the captain, nobody is the first mate. Don’t know if you’re joking or not here
@@yureihone Zoro said himself in the anime that he was the first mate, wdym bro. It wasn't directly referred to that much, but there were moments where either someone else assumed his position or that one episode where he stated himself as Luffy's first mate.
Edit: Though to be honest, it was definitely more of a default-given rather than an actual role-appointment.
@@blade9657 When did he say that? And also, him calling himself that doesn't make him the first mate. That's something that Luffy does, not him.
y'all just need to accept that there is no "good" and "bad" in this show - it's all WAYYY more shades of grey here. it's one of my favorite parts about this universe bc that is so very reflective of our world. imo you get more out of this show trying to keep an open mind when taking in these characters and situations and the universe at large.
You’re absolutely right. That’s a really good perspective to have. If I had just grown up watching I would have learned that by now! -Sean
Nice nicenice
So nice
some ichigo vibes... please ichigo couldnt shine Mihawk's blade
You get an answer for the technology oddity’s like a thousand episodes latter, there is a reason just not that relevant to the story for now latter on it does matter and is addressed this is season one it’s worth the journey
I guess I’ll find out in a thousand episodes hahaha… Such a ridiculously long wait, but I don’t want spoilers, so a thousand episodes it is! 💪🏼
Not sure why people see the name Dracule and think vampire. Dracula was the name of one vampire.
THE vampire that everyone knows
And his house looks just like Dracula's/Bran castle by coincidence 😀
I like zoro more than Sanji
No, Zoro is not the first mate in the manga / anime.
He is *NEVER* called that in 1100 chapters.
He doesn't call himself that.
Luffy doesn't call him that.
The rest of the crew doesn't call him that.
He doesn't perform *ANY* of the tasks associated with the role.
Zoro Piece fanboys online write with one hand that he's the "first mate", while furiously masturbating under the desk, just because they like the implication that he's second in command, which simply isn't true.
And they do so adducing the excuse that Zoro once intervened in an argument. Which, surprise surprise, isn't one of the tasks of a first mate. 😂
Incidentally, there is one crew member who regularly and consistently actually performs the tasks of a first mate, and that's Nami, but to be clear, she's never called that, either.
Officially, there is no first mate.
This is just another thing that the live action flat out changed for no reason, just like the functioning of the Devil Fruits.
In both cases, they went for an urban myth, so they probably did it out of simple ignorance of the original material. 😅
You're thinking more of the quartermaster, who was often the first mate on pirate ships. But the first mate on a pirate ship could also simply be the captain's right-hand man, helping him run the ship efficiently (we're talking about a replacement for Luffy here, whose only actions in this regard are to ignore the wishes of his navigator and rely on his crew to do their thing without him, so we can easily ignore this), ensure the safety of the crew (this is what Zoro does) and help with decision making, especially in the absence of the captain or in critical situations (this is what Zoro does many times). The changes to the Devil Fruit's weaknesses are well thought out for a live action adaptation that takes wounds into consideration. These changes all had to be approved by Oda, so don't think they came out of the blue.
1) Yes, what Nami does is in between the tasks of a first mate and a quartermaster, but it's a moot distinction, anyway, since they often overlapped in real life.
And since Zoro is neither.
2) No, the first mate is not the captain's bodyguard (not that that's Zoro's role, either, except maybe that one time when _nothing happened,_ if you want to be creative with definitions).
3) No, Zoro isn't a right hand man, nor has any leadership role, task or even inclination.
He isn't a first mate and he never wanted to be one.
4) The change to the Devil Fruits, which has absolutely nothing to do with "keeping track of injuries", was an *EXTREMELY BAD* change, and an extremely poorly thought out choice.
It means that whenever the sea is anything but calm, let alone in a storm, whenever there's a faint spray of water, whenever there's smell of sea salt on the breeze, all DF users are always weak, useless, and prone to falling into the sea (especially those who like to ride on top of the ship's figurehead).
In other words, any DF user who takes to the sea or goes near the coast is doomed.
Making this setting non functional.
That's the kind of dumb nonsense that happens when someone believes they're smarter and can do better than someone who has produced a globally acclaimed product for 25 years. 😅
5) No, Oda did *NOT* review every tiny detail of the script, nor any major changes to his canon.
This is another, brand new, urban myth.
All Oda did was listening to their pitch, trusting them, and allowing them to do the show.
*THAT'S* the approval we're talking about, that people like to throw around as a trump card to justify every single choice and every single change of the live action.
But to be clear, Oda *DID NOT* work on editing the script. 😅
He is waaaaaay to busy as is. 😂
@@happyslapsgiving5421 According to all sources from the production and even himself Oda had to approve every change made. It is also confirmed that he and his team reviewed any script.
You know that any changes had to be okayed by Oda, right? And if Oda wanted to put in something that he couldn’t back in the manga retroactively, he had the perfect opportunity to and it has been stated that he has done that. All the way back to Zoro’s intro scene either Mr. 7.
I love to see the passion on display here! There was some iffyness with the seawater/devil fruit situation already for me, particularly with Buggy, but I just have to let things like that go and enjoy it for what it is.
I don’t have a strong opinion on the LA vs the anime yet (obvi), but I’m glad they made the live action. It brought me into the world of One Piece, and the actors helped me fall in love with their characters. I’ll come back here and argue about it when I know more haha -Sean
This is the worst series in the world, it has no connection at all, and it lacks a lot of important details that they never used. As for the real One Piece, the anime One Piece is just the best, nothing else, and the talk is over.

We just finished watching episode 17 of the anime. So far it's made me love Usopp more as a character, but the Live Action is what brought me into the world of One Piece. The show has a lot of charm and some really cool effects - and I loved these actors.
but imo
OP Anime > OP Live Action ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
