It feels nice with a slasher that seems a bit more grounded, the excessive kills excluded. I wonder if Wilford Brimley stole that magnificent moustache from Hollis-Shalit when he was killed.
Either that or it was left to him as inheritance
You mean you didn’t like that “masterpiece of horror” that was Halloween Kills?🤣
I liked when the townsfolk remembered they had guns.
Sometimes undergrounded
Best thing to ever come out of Valentine's Day!
With death by shower pipe, an idiot snorting "coke" from a can, escape by arm decapitation, and a catchy ending theme, this film remains one of my favorite slashers of the 1980s!
Also, it's nice to see the Cinema Snob give some love to the 3-D remake!
That coke snort scene looks straight out of a John Belushi film. That writer deserves a pat on the back.
I watched this on Netflix a couple of years ago on Netflix. Unfortunately it was the edited version so the shower scene cut out the impact.
I love this movie. My proudest thing about being from Nova Scotia!
My proudest thing is NS being the birthplace of cannabis in Canada 😆
"Nova Scotia’s relationship with weed dates back to 1606, when a French botanist named Louis Hebért planted cannabis crops in Nova Scotia. He is widely considered the first apothecary and the first person to ever farm in Canada. That is likely when Canada was first introduced to weed."
Trailer park boys
@@lShishkaBerryl Theres also that.
Plot twist: the foo who said he’s got the munchies actually toked off camera and broke the fourth wall 🚬😏
The dripping blood in the title! This one is right up there with 'Black Christmas' and 'Happy Birthday To Me' as a great character drama with a serial killer in the background:) I love how all of those decorations and the country music add to the middle-of-nowhere small-town-ness of Valentine Bluffs, and definitely how all of the characters DO come off as people who have grown up together, know each other too well, and are sick of each other;) But I do wish that Harry had actually been the killer so that TJ and Axel had to work together to stop him only for Axel to sacrifice himself so TJ and Sarah could escape...I love the way Happy tells the backstory and the whole scene of Mabel's death, and when Newby finds the "Be My Valentine!" note from her:( And Hollis, man, Hollis IS the man! The way he jumps in and THROWS Axel and TJ apart when they're fighting! Too bad he just HAD to go and let himself be talked into taking everyone down into the mine...and when Sarah was walking home in the dark, you can totally tell by how sweaty she is and how TJ smirks at Axel that, yeah, they were DOIN' it;)
That heart shaped pizza is just like my heart. Filled with grease, pepperoni and it won’t last long.
That’s the best comment I’ve read all week
I think they said "cherry yet," not "chariot."
My uncle Jim plays Tommy, and inspired me to do some acting as well, albeit far more low key.
I really enjoyed this movie. The location really helped the ambiance, they characters were solid, and that was a great look for a mystery killer.
As someone else said in a different review, I can totally buy this is a town when everyone is done with working in the mine, they go to the bar and hang out like that nearly every day.
Hell yah Brad! Mad respect for showing off the heart shaped pizza from Cottage Inn!
"More MINER injuries"
*slow clap*
I can’t stop seeing Bill Hader in TJ’s face. I just can’t unsee it.
Happy Valentine’s Day! I just love Lloyd and his Out Of Context Lone Star 911 Clip of the Week segment. It really puts a smile on my face every time I see that adorable Siamese on my screen. Thanks for the great review of this fantastic film, Snob! 💝
Thank You Scream Factory for Releasing the Unrated Version.
Thank you, Snob, for using "Lonestar 911" clips as an excuse to show us your handsome cat, Lloyd of the lovely blue eyes.
I really like the ending to this film, with the whole community basically outing the killer as he stumbles off into the mines, singing all the way. It's an effective, creepy ending.
1:24 Don Francks also did the voice of Boba Fett in the STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL!!!!
You can always tell when Brad has love for a movie when he keeps citing trivia on characters and scenes.
Nothing is quite as sexy and romantic for Valentine's Day as miners. And man, I'm glad that I didn't misspell that.
Yep gives a whole new definition of you're breaking my heart.
I'm surprised Brad didn't mention that Shoegaze legends, My Bloody Valentine, got their name from this movie.
Favorite slasher movie.
Favorite Cinemasnob.
Valentines day: Check!
The Calgon “Ancient Chinese Secret Admirer” line made me LOL.
Love this film. One of my favourite slashers of all time.
I saw this movie when I was like 7 and it's been one of my favorite movies ever since
Literally just watched this movie for the first time a couple of hours before you posted and was about to see if you had done a video on it! Happy Valentine's Day for me!😃
Kinda surprised there’s no mainstream valentine horror that makes use of how Cupid uses an arrow🤔
I still remember my ex finding out about a showing to a small crowd somewhere in NYC back in like 2007-08, there's a Valentine's Day I can say was worth remembering 😎 👍
6:32- "Son, are you trying to get yourself killed in this slasher film?!" (The Cinema Snob, 1981 in Film)
22:05- Uh-huh. Well, Tron also underperformed, but it still got a sequel 28 years later, and Tron: Legacy was freaking awesome.
I always remember Don Franks as the voice of MOK, in Rock & Rule.
I honestly thought he had already reviewed this movie before and he was doing the remake. Then I remembered it was Brandon Tenold who reviewed it.
I always remember when the remake came out because I went to see Coraline that night and it was showing in the theater next to me. It must have started a bit earlier because I could hear people screaming right before Coraline started. There were six of us watching Coraline but the theater for My Blood Valentine 3D was PACKED.
I always have loved the characters in slasher movies you like, the fat mustached guy who dies in my bloody valentine, the guys in wheelchairs in texas chainsaw and friday the 13th part 2, all three of them and more have always seemed like the most natural actors in their respective films, the most true to life. For me that makes me hate when they get killed. Probably also helps they were nobodies cast to semi major roles in movies so it was most likely their personality while reading lines.
RIP TJ (Paul Kelman) 2 weeks ago 💔
I'm surprised you didn't make any Temple of Doom jokes in this episode.
The latest blu ray/4k restored those deleted kill scenes
Its kinda funny how a town spruced up their home, only for the film makers to spend a portion of their budget to remake the gritty look. XD
I have such a soft spot for the remake I remember seeing it in theaters when I was 12 and I loved it
One of my favorite movies of all
This is one of them slashers that makes other slashers look brilliant
My Hero
Lloyd!!!
That's awesome that you like the remake Brad! Maybe a review for next V-Day?
Imagine how good effects we could have today if cgi didnt ruin everything.
...just look towards the remake
One of my favorite slashers.
A Canadian slasher classic! Such a fun movie
This was one of the towns shortlisted for the filming of Radioactive Man. The townsfolk were so excited they decontaminated the place so the filmmakers went elsewhere.
I saw this for the first time this past October and thought it was surprisingly competent for an 80s slasher. The mine made for an eerie horror atmosphere, the miner gear and pick-axe added to the creepiness of the killer, and the acting was overall not *too* bad.
If I have one complaint, it's that the Valentines gimmick was wholly unnecessary and felt really forced in the first half; make it just a movie about a mining town and not a place called "Valentine Bluffs" that loves that holiday, and then I think it's a little more focused.
Back when I had a stint as a camp counselor for a summer, a couple friends and I took a day trip to the filming locations! (I'm from Nova Scotia) 🙂
Saw the remake on opening night and it was wild! People were cheering and screaming, at all the cool parts! Definitely my favorite 3D movie experience.
I love the original too and actually find the quality change, (for the previously deleted scenes) adds to the tension! It's similar to those old "Shock notices" that some VHS releases had in the 80's. Anytime those popped up, you knew something scary was coming!
Good times :)
Cheers.
i saw this in theaters 1981
I woke up just in time
8:43 He looks like a Canadian looking Mr Wynn From Diamonds are Forever. lol
i think we need to make valentines day more of a people holiday and not just for couples. sure we kinda have it for everyone but it'd be better if they didn't cater to couples so much. give love to everyone on valentines day! ok now this movie, i love this one. i love big ol bear guy character sooo much, i dont remember his name just that hes fat,has a beard and glasses. oh and a hat. he looks like the one villian in "diamonds are forever" now that i think about it lmao, which i also love those 2 villians in that movie.
Man, I hope we get Scanners one of these days. It's still a favorite, despite some slow parts.
A review of Scanners? He’s done it.
The next review maybe cover THE DENTIST & THE DENTIST II. It would be hilariously awesome! and just an awesome movie with a psycho slasher dentist :p
The only way this movie could've been any better would've been if Steve Miner had directed it. And if the killer's name had been 'Steve'.
One thing I just noticed that tips off it's filmed in Nova Scotia, is that Mabel is seen carrying a case of Moosehead beer! And it's looks like the guy was snorting an Alexander Keith's beer?
the remake with jensen ackles wasnt bad i enjoyed it
@Devan Moran it wasn’t one of those wussy PG-13 horror remakes either. It was gory.
that movie was dumb gory fun.
it's not gonna win any awards, but it's hard to not enjoy
The 2009 remake had a promotional website that was up for a long time, too, I think it was taken down just a year or two ago. Shane, it was a great little time capsule of cheesy 2000’s website design.
Wow, the voice of Mok from 'Rock & Rule' (And Cree Summer's dad) was in this movie.
LOL they didn't say chariot they said Cherry yet.
Sold!
Happy Valentine's Day! ❤
A very appropriate choice for a "Valentine's Day" movie (no sarcasm).
You really need to sell I'm the Saul of this group T-shirts
love it
I’m an 80’s/90’s kid, and always prefer the originals over remakes, but I enjoyed the remake of MBV more
Friendly correction; when writing a shortened date, the apostrophe goes before the first digit, not after the 0 (i.e. '80s).
@@JanetStarChild I'm 51 and have been doing it wrong this entire time?!? Thanks Funk, one's never too old to learn!
This movie must be completely incomprehensible in the theatrical cut to be honest. I am sure if it had been released without the cuts originally it could have been as popular as Friday the 13th, it's genuinely one of the best slashers ever made.
Imagine thinking your the good guy only to realize your not and your character's about to lose an arm and rub off lol. I think that choice was pretty clever it let any potential killer sit in a kinda limbo or suspicious yet not.
I also have the movie! Good review for Valentine's Day!
Just because hearts are being ripped out and sent to the police, that doesn't mean it's Harry Warden. It's clearly the monster from Split Second
DRRRIIINKK! That had me.
Wooo 🥳 great video
Is this the same My Bloody Valentine where they have a naked woman in heels be chased by a pick axe killer?
Not this one. Maybe the remake. 3D boobies coming at you might have been considered a draw to the film.
Valentines Day SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUXXXX!!!!!
I love you, in a bloody way.
Wow, i thought the recent "3D" version was the only one
Please do a review on My Smurfy Valentine please
😐 You are allowed to Smurf, here!!!!
I think the line is “robbed of her cherry, yet”…
Omg I want candy from the dresser. Think of the fun with what it says.
You should do See No Evil
I wish they would’ve made a sequel instead of a remake.
1:28 Ngl Sabertooth would make a great horror movie baddie. 22:36 Well of course it did well, have you seen Jensen Ackles in a bad film? I think not!
Will you be reviewing 'Cannibal Girls' in honor of Ivan Reitman's passing?
Looks to me like Hollis is more of a Wilfred than a Saul, but great video as always. Diabetes!
Do American psycho
Snob needs to do more horror movies
I flagged this video for having sex and violence involving miners.
Happy Valentines lol
It's Valentine's Day , Mr Sandman im so Alone
I watched the 3D remake yesterday cause I didn't want to pay for the old one...it was pretty good! Would love to have seen it in a theater with 3D glasses!
14:43 didn't he help do FX on Carpenter's *The Thing?* The old dude's face with the pick axe through it looked a _lot_ like the Palmer Thing.
I think the first time I saw this was on Commander USA's Groovy Movies on a Saturday afternoon. Even for being the cut version, the gore was pretty realistic and sickening. I still remember when they were carting out the laundry lady, the sheriff stops them, pulls back the blanket and _reaches into her chest cavity_ to pull out a bloody valentine.
Review the full scream franchise?
Its not chariot they sing Hariot hasn't lost her cherry yet
I've actually never seen this movie, or the remake.
Who could it be, it's just me.
🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
"Hollace will be the Saul of the group." so f*ck Hollace?
And f*ck Saul too for good measure.
Still best slasher that's not Michael, Jason, or Freddy.
I tried watching this movie, but the first 30 or so minutes just seemed to drag. Anytime the miner is on screen, it’s great. But I found the first act pretty unengaging.
Lloyd -> 17:50
