One of the few slashers where the killer is far more likable and sympathetic than everyone he pickaxes and (especially) those that survive to never see a sequel.
The Valentines Day episode of Supernatural, which is also called "My Bloody Valentine" is pretty entertaining and starts with a couple eating each other. Literally. But it does end heavy and is tied to the over arch.
I actually prefer this version. I think it uses its runtime a lot better, and the gore effects are on point. Plus seeing Dean acting all crazy is a huge bonus.
The original’s 1st cut, which includes the 15min of forced MPAA cuts, is a lot better than its theatrical version. It feels like a modern gory slasher, and not the neutered “Die Hard on TV” cut.
I have to disagree. Sequels, especially in the slasher genre, tend to be bad. I wish there was only one Halloween movie or would have gone with the anthology idea.
The Nostalgia Critic perfectly describes the whole 3D fad in his review of Sharkboy and Lavagirl with "Can you see this in 3D?" quoted constantly while double bird flipping. Happy Valentines Day!
This really was one of the best re-makes of recent times. It stayed just close enough to the old story to feel the same, but had enough changes & twists to be its own version.
My Bloody Valentine 3D turns 15! Still one of my favorite horror remakes and one of the best films of 2009 Made $100 million worldwide on a $15 million budget Patrick Lussier of the 'Scream' movies and 'Dracula 2000' directs again remaking the 1981 slasher I absolutely love the gore and the kills The 3D is utilized effectively throughout too; keep in mind it was the first R-rated horror film restarted the trend thanks in part to Avatar opening a few months later Most of the time now 3D is just used as a cheap gimmick for money-making and resulting in terrible post-conversion, if used sparingly though it allows the audience to immerse themselves enhancing the terror by squirming but also reveling in the carnage I do appreciate that composer Marco Beltrami did the score per usual There's terrific character actors in here in horror from Tom Atkins to Kerr Smith to Jensen Ackles to Jaime King King makes for a terrific final girl/scream queen too and the twist near the end caught me off guard And we can't forget the traditional horror tropes this movie checks off were so used to although it did revive many classic horror traditions The original movie played it a bit safe and being heavily edited down later gaining a cult following This is still a damn good remake with lots of nudity and gore and big laughs to spare adding to its own schlocky ness It's entertaining, fast-paced, and keeps its status with an iconic slasher so it doesn't deserve to be overlooked because it's one of the better remakes for once
By coincidence, I finished listening to an audio edition of a murder mystery with an old mining town where an arsonist burns families alive in their own houses. The climax took place in a deserted mine where cannibals were once executed. Rattlesnakes and more arson are involved.
The tv ad for this movie scared the crap out of me and gave me nightmares for a few years. But I was a kid who snuck out of bed so I guess I learned my lesson
I have an idea. He's done so many reviews and makes so many references to movies he's reviewed, that everytime he makes a reference, he could include a link to a past review.
Hey, Cinema Snob if you go to Thomas Negovan's UA-cam you can see the results of his 3 year quest to restore Caligula (1980) to its original state at three hours and without any of the original footage. It was constructed from the original camera neg running at about 91 hours of footage.
It makes me trust bad movie reviewers more when they like movies that are good instead of trying to dump on every film. I saw this at the theater and have the DVD that includes the 3D version with cheap glasses; though I prefer the 2D version because the glasses suck. It's a definite classic.
I'm a huge fan of both films loving the ending of the original and saw 3d Im theaters and bought the Blu Ray as soon as it came out. I love the miner killer outfit.
i completely forgot Dean (Jesen Ackles) was in this. Snob reviewed the Friday the 13th remake with Sam (Jared Padelecki) and completed the Supernatural Set!
Will there be more Snob episodes to come? I get that you’re busy with the 1961 in Film mega-episode, but I miss having Cinema Snob episodes every week. It’s just not the same.
You don’t mess with a woman who is willing to walk around naked, in Pennsylvania, in cold ass FEBRUARY… especially if there’s a windchill, that woman is fearless lol
Considering this movie made more money opening weekend, then the original made during its entire theatrical run, you would think a sequel would have been a no- brainer for Lionsgate.
What kills me when watching (and working in these remakes) is that the killer here for example was a lot taller than either of the two in the end, which makes no sense how the killer suddenly goes from 6'4" to 6'. I remember asking the director I worked with on The Unholy that very question as a general question over lunch and he responded the audience don't see details like that, nor care enough to complain. I politely disagreed with him as many do in fact spot those inconsistencies out a lot in movies. Cary Elwes agreed with me though when we did a few takes in the scene by the tree in the church where I was sweeping around the pedestal. (I did a few other roles, one speaking) He's a great guy, and very funny. I also worked with both Jared and Jensen in the last episode of Supernatural which was done in Rhode Island. That was a great time and got to play in the car and check under the hood! I have the picture of us three on set in my game room with the other pictures of others I've worked with over the years, including The Fonz in Here Comes the Boom when I played a role of one of the fighters in the octagon and meeting him was just awesome. Such a nice, nice guy and loves fly fishing!
Wait... was that a baby Corey Feldman in that Hallmark commecial? I actually really enjoyed this one. It was one of the remakes that I watched in that era not knowing that it was a remake ahead of watching it. Which honestly, really helped with the enjoyment of some of them.
It's a shame that we weren't given a late 2000s/early 2010s 3D remake of The Burning. I'd want to see someone get stabbed to death with garden shears in 3D.
Believe it or not, I've never sat through this remake. I only caught glimpses of it on TV, but wasn't interested enough to watch it in its entirety. After watching this review, I have to say, I may give this remake a real watch. Doesn't look like it copies the original all that much, and the climax looks rather interesting. Hope you and you Wife have a great Valentine's Day. 💝
You KNOW Todd Farmer wrote that sex scene for himself. In both this remake and the original, I always feel like there's a previous movie that I should've watched beforehand that fills in the Harry Warden backstory that everyone keeps referencing.
I always stressed out around Valentine's Day what to plan and what to buy since it was also my anniversary. Now the only stress is which My Bloody Valentine I should watch. The joys of divorce 🙄
Awesome review, mate! BUT You forgot Jaime King was also the LEAD actress in Mother's Day (2010), another enjoyable (very sadistic though) remake YOU (pretty much only still on UA-cam if we talk about recognizable names) made a review for! Remember back in 2012? Unfortunately, Jaime King now disappeared into direct to DVD island. Maybe she can return from that? At least she got the 3 overall better horror remakes than Katie Cassidy, oh well..
One of the few slashers where the killer is far more likable and sympathetic than everyone he pickaxes and (especially) those that survive to never see a sequel.
Few?
Honestly that's part of why I hated it
Hey the old guy at the diner was cool, and so was the naked girl. And the nanny didn't hurt anyone
What about Friday the 13th part 3, 5, 7, and 8?
I watched it for Jensen Ackles. I don't regret it lol
The Valentines Day episode of Supernatural, which is also called "My Bloody Valentine" is pretty entertaining and starts with a couple eating each other. Literally. But it does end heavy and is tied to the over arch.
My Bloody Valentine 3D, a film so memorable, its only legacy is being mentioned in Scream 4.
That's actually pretty good.
@@cjwrench07 I'll have to check it out.
> Dean acting like crazy
That's just Soldier Boy beating the living shit out of Black Noir.
Both Winchester brothers appeared in remakes of 1980's horror flicks.
Don't forget Jared was also in the House of Wax remake with Paris Hilton.
In that one, he got killed. At least he survived in the Friday The 13th remake.
It's a shame that My Bloody Valentine didn't become a franchise like Nightmare on Elm street or Friday the 13th.
Thank God for that. Some movies are better as one shots.
Child's Play
I have to disagree. Sequels, especially in the slasher genre, tend to be bad. I wish there was only one Halloween movie or would have gone with the anthology idea.
@@rabbidbabies4094 Maybe My Bloody Valentine could've worked as an anthology, similar to Stephen King's Creepshow or Trick 'r treat.
@@zachwillas6329 That would have been horrible, a simple sequel would be good enough
The Nostalgia Critic perfectly describes the whole 3D fad in his review of Sharkboy and Lavagirl with "Can you see this in 3D?" quoted constantly while double bird flipping.
Happy Valentines Day!
Adding a Brad Jones lookalike to a horror film makes it even more better.
Preserve this man and his unlimited referencial humor
We have the legend Tom Atkins in this movie. THRILL ME.
Tom Atkins is a national treasure.
One thing I miss in this rebooted version of My Bloody Valentine is the Canadian accents from the original movie.
Yes.
17:10 “I love you both, but I choose ME *and shoots herself*” 🤣🤣🤣 That took me out! Great review as usual
I saw this in theaters mainly because of the 3D. It was pretty good.
Should have never been made.
Guess that's the only way to enjoy it, as this film was a bore in 2D.
Now I can't wait to see the Brad tries for Jeff's ghost pepper jerky!!
Nice are we gonna get a view of that magnificent moustache from the original in glorious 3D.
3:41 I do think it's hilarious that the Winchester Brothers ended up in two different remakes of classic horror movies
3:38 Fun Fact: Jensen Ackles would go on to voice Batman in 2022’s Batman: The Long Halloween Part 1 & Part 2
I missed you Brad Mondays have felt empty without you in them
This really was one of the best re-makes of recent times. It stayed just close enough to the old story to feel the same, but had enough changes & twists to be its own version.
It is WILD to see young Ackles in something other than supernatural 😂 great episode!
I remember seeing this on cable and being shocked at how good and gory it was. I’m glad it didn’t punk out for a PG-13 rating.
My Bloody Valentine 3D turns 15!
Still one of my favorite horror remakes and one of the best films of 2009
Made $100 million worldwide on a $15 million budget
Patrick Lussier of the 'Scream' movies and 'Dracula 2000' directs again remaking the 1981 slasher
I absolutely love the gore and the kills The 3D is utilized effectively throughout too; keep in mind it was the first R-rated horror film restarted the trend thanks in part to Avatar opening a few months later Most of the time now 3D is just used as a cheap gimmick for money-making and resulting in terrible post-conversion, if used sparingly though it allows the audience to immerse themselves enhancing the terror by squirming but also reveling in the carnage
I do appreciate that composer Marco Beltrami did the score per usual
There's terrific character actors in here in horror from Tom Atkins to Kerr Smith to Jensen Ackles to Jaime King King makes for a terrific final girl/scream queen too and the twist near the end caught me off guard
And we can't forget the traditional horror tropes this movie checks off were so used to although it did revive many classic horror traditions
The original movie played it a bit safe and being heavily edited down later gaining a cult following
This is still a damn good remake with lots of nudity and gore and big laughs to spare adding to its own schlocky ness
It's entertaining, fast-paced, and keeps its status with an iconic slasher so it doesn't deserve to be overlooked because it's one of the better remakes for once
This looks like a much better remake than most of the rest of them. They were crazy not to make a sequel.
Happy Valentines Day Snob! Hope you receive a still beating heart for the next Brad Tries.
I have this movie on DVD and I haven't seen it in years but cool review as always Snob, you have a nice day sir
This makes me wish the very old Midnight Reviews were still obtainable.
Ooooo baby I’ve been waiting for this one!!!
February 14th is my birthday. You can never go wrong with a slasher movie on valentines.
There’s a few Valentine’s Day episodes of Supernatural, but 5.14 “My Bloody Valentine” is by far the most screwed up. Just watch the cold open!
I remember watching this in the theater.
I remember seeing this as a teenager and really loving it. Plus, Jensen Ackles is great no matter what movie or series he's in, love him.
I saw this at 14 and it was intense.
I have an idea. He's done so many reviews and makes so many references to movies he's reviewed, that everytime he makes a reference, he could include a link to a past review.
I remember seeing this in the theater, it was a ton of fun, and I loved it as much as the original.
3:19- “And for the love of Christ, don’t send Party Cop from Cabin Fever!”
Looks like you found a good use for those candy canes
'Sayyyyyyyyy......(Looks at watch) It's Miller Time.'
You can tell by the videotape-ish look of the footage that the 3D filming tech was still new.
The ultimate 3D experience!!
Not half bad for a slasher remake!
The scene of Kevin Tighe getting the pickaxe shoved through his eye has always stuck out as the best kill for me!
Missed you snob

I LOVED the kills in this movie!!! The severed top part of the head sliding down the shovel spade looked SO cool in 3D! lmao
Another reason to celebrate Monday!!! Thanks man!!!
No, no, no Atkins should have said:"Thrill me!"
So sorry to hear about Lloyd
He has been getting so much mileage out of those Sardine candy canes they might just qualify as an alternate fuel source.
It makes me trust bad movie reviewers more when they like movies that are good instead of trying to dump on every film. I saw this at the theater and have the DVD that includes the 3D version with cheap glasses; though I prefer the 2D version because the glasses suck. It's a definite classic.
15:23 : Wait a minute... That's Tommy Jarvis in the Hallmark ad!!😱 Very nice little touch, Brad! 😄
He's throwing sardine candy canes at us, it really is a horror movie.
I would never know about these movies if not for Snob.
I never saw the original but I did see this one in the theatre. It was all right! Thanks for Snobbing it.
So grateful that I saw this 3D slasherpiece in theaters!
I'm a huge fan of both films loving the ending of the original and saw 3d Im theaters and bought the Blu Ray as soon as it came out. I love the miner killer outfit.
Not sure how I completely forgot about how the early 2010s saw the overuse of the 3D gimmick.
i completely forgot Dean (Jesen Ackles) was in this. Snob reviewed the Friday the 13th remake with Sam (Jared Padelecki) and completed the Supernatural Set!
Did the guy who played Bobby appear in any horror movies?
@Louis Duarte He plays Mia Wasikowska's father in "Crimson Peak".
I actually like this movie.
I hope that everyone has a wonderful week. 😇

THIS IS THE LINK TO THE NEWLY RESTORED "CALIGULA": ua-cam.com/video/McuM46YHSSM/v-deo.html
This movie was far better than it deserved to be.
No it's not the same bridge from The Mothman Prophecies. That was a suspension bridge with cables that snapped and tore people in half.
Still better than The Uninvited... I mean, the Uninvited... I mean The UnBORN! That is what I was going to say...
This was one of those remakes that was so much better then most of the movies in that time.
You don’t mess with a woman who is willing to walk around naked, in Pennsylvania, in cold ass FEBRUARY… especially if there’s a windchill, that woman is fearless lol
A good movie with a fun killer.

12:42 evidence of obvious self-loathing.
It’s okay Brad…you have body dysmorphia playa!!!
This was a surprisingly good film.
The original is one of my favorites. The remake is pretty good too. Nice job Snob

I'm glad this episode wasn't in 3D, otherwise I would have sardine candy canes in my room now
@: 16 Why is the car mirror leaking pink blood or did the killer throw something at the object?
I always stressed out around Valentine's Day what to plan and what to buy since it was also my anniversary. Now the only stress is which My Bloody Valentine I should watch. The joys of divorce 🙄
I remember seeing this movie on one of my first dates ever. The date was meh, but the movie was ok.

Dude, I wanna see a cheesy film with you bro. I found my people again.
Was that Corey Feldman with the Danny Torrance haircut?
Brad, we would appreciate if you didn't throw sardine candy canes at us. Thank you
