That raft scene alone is worth the price. Savini’s gore effects are top notch, Tony Maylam does a great job directing and also playing Cropsey in the murder scenes & Rick Wakeman’s score is creepy

I always wondered why Cropsey is standing in a canoe striking out with shears and does not unbalance the canoe and dumps him in the water, maybe I’m missing something

Because he’s the antagonist, he has the power to defy normal logic. Also he _does_ step onto the raft during the scene, so he’s not on the canoe the whole time.

Just wanna say how much I appreciate the return to weekly Snob uploads. There's something magical about the Snob character that makes a movie review that much more entertaining. I'm not sure, Brad, if you ever feel like the extra effort to Snob a film vs. giving a 5-minute review in front of the shelves isn't worth the extra value, but for me as a viewer, it definitely is worth it.

I've got a booklet reprinting WWII "Humor in Uniform" stories from "Reader's Digest". One is about some instructions for ladies on how to make their rubber girdles last longer [rubber was needed for the war, not ladies' foundation garments]. The writer started out by recommending the girdle be removed by a strong yank, but thought that might seem too suggestive. He went with "removed by a strong jerk."

Ah, a true "Video Nasty" . About 20 years ago, I made it a goal to see every film on the "Nasties" list, even the ones that were on there but not officially, (see a documentary on YT, about the entire, "Moral Panic". Anyway, if I recall, there were 94 in all. And I saw them all! Even the one called, "I love you, hugs & kisses". A Canadian film that had no business being here. Although, it was kind of Nasty ;)
Anyway, I saw this film and OH BOY! This one is demented and in the top 5! But there was something extra about this one. It had an element that was missing from most slashers. CRUELTY!
There was something about it that made my skin crawl. Naturally Savini's FX, characters you cared about and a patient, well directed script all contributed to it's effectiveness, but I've never gone back to it and I never could quite figure out why. I've seen the Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Romero Zombie movies and Friday film series' a dozen times. But The Burning.....
Yes, the cruelty of a lot of the kills are, FINGER food for thought ;) But, when I saw that you were reviewing it. I decided to do the same. The answer I was looking for, which is so obvious now, was found very early. All you need to do is read the credits!
I remember reading a quote from Tarantino, where he said, if it wasn't for film, he'd probably be in jail by now!
SeeingvThe Burning, for the second time, made me realise that a lot of the film is someone's fantasy. I realise it's easy to see now but sometimes answers are looking right at us. This movie is a small peek, in to the mind of a warped individual!
A sexual sadists soup! Something you have, before the main meal...
Obviously, this is no Salo, or Caligula but in a way, it feels like something akin to, the first murder (or attack), of a killer, (or predator!)
Without going into too much detail, I work with the Criminal mind every day. It's part of my job. I have studied all the big names and a lot of "small" ones and this movie has fingerprints on it. It's a film I wouldn't want to shine a black-light on!
I found it fascinating to go back to and I'm actually surprised that it has not been studied, closer. At least not to my knowledge.
Anyhow, that's my abridged "examination" of "The Burning." Please feel free to open up, a civil conversation, or tell me, you think I'm full of shit! Lol I'm a big boy, I can take it ;)
Cheers to the Cinema Snob, for another in-depth review, on a movie that's importance has greatly changed, over the years!!

so in the movie, it was the kids' fault that he started abducting and killing kids, but in real life it was because he was a demented something-o-phile.
