  • Just finished the break in on the new flat tappet cam (1984 block 5.0. 302 Windsor), the lifters were sticking so I put in a new set and XE262 cam.... Lift is .493/.500 LSA 110 degrees and duration is 262/270. Nothing super wild but sounds pretty cool. I didnt change anything else so power is about the same, maybe a bit more torque

      Nothing too wild, just a bit extra thump..ya know, while I was in there anyhow haha. I looked at flow vs lift on my stock heads and something more radical wouldn't have helped since the heads couldn't flow that much anhyow, probably would have hurt low end.

      @@ImprovisedBuilds - your D8 heads are the worst ever cast for a small block... get some explorer GT40 or GT40P heads and add another 40-50 HP (with no loss in torque) EASILY!! Oh, and your factory intake flows really poorly, also. Weiand Stealth or Performer RPM for the win.

    What compression are you running? I’m getting this cam and I wanna know if it makes the ground vibrate for you

    • @ImprovisedBuilds
      @ImprovisedBuilds  3 роки тому +1

      Not sure about ground vibrating, but it does sound good, I have stock compression of around 9:1, maybe a bit less.

    Did you have to upgrade pushrods ? Or anything in the heads ?

    • @ImprovisedBuilds
      @ImprovisedBuilds  3 роки тому +1

      Nope, just the cam and lifters. Might be a good idea to upgrade the valve springs if you plan on lots of high rpm driving (4000-6500rpm)

      Still makes enough vacuum to run power brakes and gas mileage was about the same as the stock cam

    hmm i have a 302 in my zephyr. im thinking this cam e street heads since 5500 is all those heads have the manifold to match a 600 holley and mac equal lengths with the x pipe 2.5 inch oughta make a nice cruiser. i have an 8.8 with 4.10s that i want to put an AOD with a 2000 stall in front of i was thinking of going way roudy but maybe the next project will be like that. sounds good man!

    Sounds really good. I’ve been searching for a couple of months for videos of this particular cam. I installed the same cam in the engine I built for for my bracket car but I haven’t fired it up yet and have been wondering if it would have any noticeable chop at idle. I’m pleasantly surprised. I built the motor more for torque vs horsepower but a race car with no chop just doesn’t go well

    • @ImprovisedBuilds
      @ImprovisedBuilds  4 роки тому +1

      I was surprised with it. Definitely noticed a difference in sound. A little performance change, but with stock heads not much.

      Hopefully I’ll be able to fire it up and break the cam in this weekend. I’ll upload a video if everything goes well with it. I always get nervous the first time I fire up a new build. I’ve double and triple checked almost everything but I still feel like I’ve always forgotten something. Your car sounds really good though. Makes me feel better about my cam choice.

      Got mine fired up finally a few weeks ago and your right the cam hits a little harder than I expected. Hope it runs as good as it sounds but the track are shutting down for now with everything that’s going on. I posted a video of it earlier today go check it out when you get a chance.

    Do you need to change springs to run this cam? I have a stock 1972 302 I wanna run this cam in but just don't know if I should buy springs too or not

      @connorsimpson8693 3 роки тому

      @@ricardoap6879 this should work fine in my opinion. Just make sure to check pushrod length. Honestly I would go with blueprint engine heads. They’re 500 a piece which isn’t bad plus for that price you get preinstalled stronger springs and a smaller than stock combustion chamber to get a better compression ratio

      About the same as stock, a bit more low end grunt and seems to pull harder above 4500 rpm also..but wont know for sure untill I swap springs. I broke in with light springs and still haven't changed them, valves float about 5000rpm
