It's not like you said it was Nothing like you said it was It's a dirty old place and I can't go back It's not like you said it was Nothing like you said it was I've been misused and I can't go back It's a dirty old place and it's full of lies And I can't see a thing through virgin's eyes It's a dirty old place and it's full of lies And I'm still seeing through virgin's eyes Tonight, and I can't go back and I can't go back I had a young boy's dream But I can plainly see It's a filthy world and I can't go back Now I can't go back Now I can't go back I've been misused and I can't go back Everybody here is out to get me Or at least that's how it seems to me Everybody here is laughing at me But now I know my weakness is my strength And I want to go back and I can't go back
I met a guy, who was a few years older, But if there is one thing I can say he taught me about , was GREAT music... I will love him forever on just that basis . Thank you ..
I understand this song to be about virginity, but I personally see it about childhood. In the way it says "It's a dirty old place, and it's fall of lies," I imagine that as adulthood.
Yup- agreed: I think it is a lyric that has much broader appeal and is about that stripping away of the veil that demarcates the unspoiled exuberance and naïveté of youth with the cynicism and world weariness that comes with life experience. I like , no love the idealism and bitterness that kind of fuels the song. All wrapped up in a killer punk pop sheen. Brilliant!
Me too, things you thought or wanted to happen or thought you would be that just arnet happening. Sure you could try and argue it's some kind of weird precursor to bands like Negative XP and there might be SOME truth to that but there's alt you ca. YKe any from this song that isn't about sexuality really and I don't actually think that's really the main point either, sort of a stretch. I think it's more about the death of The American Dream kn The 1980s if anything.
Man I had all the Descendents stuff on like 3 tapes, do you remember when you use to record them from record to tape, this was before cd's were affordable, at least for me.
This song hurts me. not because it's bad. it's because it hurts knowing I'm always by myself with nobody on side. I got friends but I'm talking about this girl I like but she is older than me and shit is complicated, sometimes I don't see her much often. it's hurts me
It's not like you said it was
Nothing like you said it was
It's a dirty old place and I can't go back
It's not like you said it was
Nothing like you said it was
I've been misused and I can't go back
It's a dirty old place and it's full of lies
And I can't see a thing through virgin's eyes
It's a dirty old place and it's full of lies
And I'm still seeing through virgin's eyes
Tonight, and I can't go back and I can't go back
I had a young boy's dream
But I can plainly see
It's a filthy world and I can't go back
Now I can't go back
Now I can't go back
I've been misused and I can't go back
Everybody here is out to get me
Or at least that's how it seems to me
Everybody here is laughing at me
But now I know my weakness is my strength
And I want to go back and I can't go back

First Descendents song I heard at 12 years old, still relevant to my life at almost 21!

@TheIllegalKind , no bill just used a loose tuning for his snare so it doesn't sound tight.

no offence, but you're ignoring people who do give a fuck for those who don't; don't the ones at your side for granted...
Can't say I do, I'm only 18 so I didn't get to appreciate this stuff when it was new. =/

Is the album Rt inspired by City Babies Revenge by Charged GBH? Sorta veaugly similar vibe to it i feel like.
@1thess523 i didnt think it was synthesised and he loves this band i dont know why he thought that they are a punk band they would not do that
