This is one of those songs that makes me wonder even though I know everybody has different opinions, taste, et cetera how can somebody not listen to the song and hear the genius in it?
They're so talented and will always be underated. Perfect storm of a great drummer/ songwriter, Milo's singing/ lyrics, amazing unique guitar player (unmatched IMO) and bassist that keeps up. Love seeing them live every time.
Just saw them on the Rise Against tour, and this was one of the songs they played. Man, they were amazing. Easy to see how they've lasted this long, they're one of the best punk bands of all time.
Lyrics: Clean sheets mean a lot to a guy who sleeps on the floor. I wanted your love and a shelf on your dresser drawer. You tucked me in, stopped my tossin' and turnin', But I turned back the covers, and I saw those sheets are dirty. Even though you'll never come clean, you know it's true. Those sheets are dirty, and so are you. The warmth of a bed to a guy who sleeps on the floor Was enough to perpetuate all the lies I heard before, And now I wanna hold you, gotta hold my pillow instead, 'Cause my pillow will never lie, or be with a stranger in my bed. Even though you'll never come clean, you know it's true. Those sheets are dirty, and so are you. Where's the love I was lookin' for? It's out the door. I'm afraid to see you anymore, so it's back on the floor, 'Cause those sheets are dirty. [Guitar solo] Woke up this mornin', alone on the floor, Thinkin' about those clean sheets and the way it was before. When I looked in the mirror, I saw your face and thought of the past, But now I know how dirty you are-took my fist and smashed the glass! Even though you'll never come clean, you know it's true. Those sheets are dirty, and so are you. Even though you'll never come clean, you know it's true. Those sheets are dirty, and so are you. Those sheets are dirty. Those sheets are dirty. Those sheets are dirty.
christ this is a good record. . . .what drumming. what melodies. . . like the sex pistols meet the beach boys.. .loved it as a 15 year old skater. . love it now as a 40 something.
Fuckin Bill Stevenson dude. They built the band around the drums. I didn't realize it, until they put out the documentary about them. But you can here it once you are clued in. The groove rules ALL. ;)
When I was 17 I moved out to Catalina Island for 2yrs. The first day out there I looked down and found this CD on the ground in the dirt...greatest thing I ever found on the ground. I already was wayyy into Descendents but didn’t have any cds anymore
I saw them live last night and they did this song, It was a fucking incredible performance from the worlds greatest band! Thank you for playing the way you play!
green day and descendents are two truly amazing punk bands and 1st and 3rd favourite punk bands (1st obviously being descendents) and i get pissed when people call green day trash but fuck me descendents are a no brain win
The amazing part of this song is that Bill woke up one morning with the melody of the chorus AND the lyrics in his head. "Even though you'll never come clean, you know it's true. Those sheets are dirty and so are you." Best band even in the unconscious state.
'when i looked in the mirror, i saw your face and thought of the past, but now i know how dirty you are, took my fist and smashed the glass!' the way he upswings on glass still gives me shivers like 25 yrs later. catharsis!

Must say, Atreyu actually did this justice. Doesn't top the original....but stands on its own (which is more than I can say for most covers like this). Randomly found all my old CDs and this has been a good week.
I remember hearing this album for my first time when I was just a youngster and I've been listening to it here and there ever since these dudes were a good band.... are a good band
My professor in my Russian history class quoted some of the lyrics from this sohg during a lecture. I gave him a Descendents t-shirt after the next lecture - still only got a B in the class.
Descendents, dead milkmen, misfits, Pantera, fugazi, sublime, suicidal tendencies, dead Kennedys, system of a down, Jane's addiction, Jimi Hendrix, Black flag, bad brains, the Ramones, black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, the Beatles, nofx, Primus, some weed and a beer and I'll be happy for eternity
haha, well said! i love the way the descendents mixed pop melodies, hardocre punk, and adolescent humor and lyrics! milo is an underrated singer too, he has a good voice!
Ignacio Andree Ether you are writing in English or I have become “gifted”. I'm not really sure because if it was Spanish the question mark would be up side down. But “cuz” is not a English word.
@teNoir7B I'm 46 (saw these guys 1987 Wpg,Mb,Cdn) Totally agree with you. there is alot of crap out there but with some guidance we can help shape the few to be original and not be afraid to be different. There is hope for the future!! ;)
@plaidchuck, that's what local bands and our friend's older siblings were for! I am 32, and I stopped listening to the radio by 1996... Though when I hear the 90s "flashbacks" on the radio these days the majority of the songs are waaaay better than the crap these days (and I don't mean "rap metal" of ANY kind!)
This really might be one of the best songs of all time. Honestly.
Agreed. What more can I say? It rules!
Helps a bunch when yer girl ........
This is one of those songs that makes me wonder even though I know everybody has different opinions, taste, et cetera how can somebody not listen to the song and hear the genius in it?
"If you know, you know"
Sorry you feel that way.. Rough, man. Stick to your pillow. It won't lie to you.
Most underrated band of all time
I totally agree
One of, fer shure.
But held in incredibly high regard for those in the know!
What about Korn?
@@thierryroy9278 Why Korn?
you listen to this album once and then you're singing it for like a month. These guys had a gift for infectious hooks.
The first Descendents song I ever heard in the summer of 1987. Still have the same feeling today when I listen to it.
They're so talented and will always be underated. Perfect storm of a great drummer/ songwriter, Milo's singing/ lyrics, amazing unique guitar player (unmatched IMO) and bassist that keeps up. Love seeing them live every time.
Never exiting my Punk phase, EVER!! 🤟🏽🎸

Was my daily soundtrack skating. Kinda weird I'm going to see them live tomorrow in my 40's.
Fuckin Bill Stevenson dude. They built the band around the drums. I didn't realize it, until they put out the documentary about them. But you can here it once you are clued in. The groove rules ALL. ;)

Almost everyone across all genres write about love quite often.
sheer terror
green day
Life Is Good, You Should Get One Green Day can't hold The Descendents' fuckin sperm sample
green day and descendents are two truly amazing punk bands and 1st and 3rd favourite punk bands (1st obviously being descendents) and i get pissed when people call green day trash but fuck me descendents are a no brain win
I discovered this song in early 2022. I honestly thought it was a new band. Timeless.
What's a few decades between friends!
i highly recomend checking out ALL ( the band) the sister project/band, that was formed while Milo went to get a biochemistry degree
@@skeven0different sound but an amazing band and when you know who they are it automatically makes them cooler lol.
new band..? i never heard good music at least more than this 5 years, just rap with autotune and stupid tiktok music everywhere.
The amazing part of this song is that Bill woke up one morning with the melody of the chorus AND the lyrics in his head. "Even though you'll never come clean, you know it's true. Those sheets are dirty and so are you." Best band even in the unconscious state.
best melodic punk rock band ever.
They take me back to a simpler time. Very refreshing.
Had the cassette in 88' it literally killed my walkman.. Now at 43 still one of my favorite albums...
Somery came out in 91 😬🤔🙄 js I remember when it did! Eeeeek
Maybe you're thinking of all and I'm being a pretentious prick
Classic! I love this song... reminds me of when I was 14 and in 9th grade...I listened to them a lot back then...
'when i looked in the mirror, i saw your face and thought of the past, but now i know how dirty you are, took my fist and smashed the glass!' the way he upswings on glass still gives me shivers like 25 yrs later. catharsis!
The writing is so simple but genius
the way he sings "...and smashed the glass!" still sends shivers up me timbers.
Doing laundry today and had to say clean sheets mean a lot!!!!!!!
Just starting to get into these guys... Really glad I discovered them. I think either Pervert or Hope have to be my favorite songs.

My professor in my Russian history class quoted some of the lyrics from this sohg during a lecture. I gave him a Descendents t-shirt after the next lecture - still only got a B in the class.
Loved this song since high school days 😍🤩
came here to hear this song again they played here in San Antone last night. They're awesome
Minus Primus ditto
Donovan Redd how dare you disgrace the Lord's of all psychedelic punk you uncultured swine
Yeah, Primus!!

I'll just take a girl instead of the weed
Those sheets are dirty... AND SO ARE YOU! Fucking love this song :D

One of the Officer Jenny's must have sent him here.
Man can't resist a Nurse Joy.

Pop Punk bands now are so bad that I can't bring myself to call Descendents pop punk.
+Bonzi the Otaku State Champs, Man Overboard, Four Year Strong
+Joshua Sinogaya emo pop punk is what I was referring to

Milo what a beautiful thing 🤓
saw them last night but got there right after they played this. the show was great, but i would have died to hear this.
this brings back some fond memories thanks
I've been listening to the song for 15 years now and I just realized I think it's more about hypocritical Behavior than anything. Cool.
Wow that makes a ton of sense actually, thanks for pointing that out!
I miss seeing these guys
Seen them 3x, and they only get better.
Met Karl, super nice guy and funny as hell!

Descendents: Brutal truth meets superficial pop.
my thoughts exactly
not exactly

this band is the best of all
my childhood 😢
Lived this song a couple of times.....
it was so sick seeing this at the Punk in the Park concert
Love this song so much
This and "Merican" are tied for their best song imo.
Also, I could very easily see this song fitting on "Hold Me Up" by Goo Goo Dolls.
Bloody awesome!
omg!! i love this song soooooo much!
R.I.P. Frank Navetta.
The plain honesty with pop Sensibility
No one does it better
Epic! Truth is power!
Just put clean sheets on my bed.. they mean a lot :b

I don’t know his name, but the descendent’s bass player is probably the best punk bass player of all time. Edit: Karl Alvarez is his name.
Great song!
Nice tune!
@nergalk lol, im sorry but that is so funny. did he say he hated the band too
