This matches my experience. I bought the set and the different geometries add or decrease speed of draw down with all of them being faster than normal V60. Some of that I compensated with grinding finer, but in general I felt that what I was getting was more of a channeling effect (combined bitter sour notes). Got frustrated and went back to my Aeropress and have not played with it for a while. Might be worth exploring further. Thanks for the review.
Didn't really pay attention to your channel icon before and it made laugh. Remembering how you said many times as now that you own a decent you want to show it at any occasion. Anyway, love your video, feels like you're always trying to make them better and the result is great
I didn't notice the channel icon before. It is now a Decent espresso machine, but I assume you just changed it. What was it before? It made @Jhin Replay laugh and now I want to know what it was. 🙂
@@geneogden8470 I bought my Decent a year ago for my birthday. In fact soon I will record like a 1 year mini review. The icon was Decent since then. What I said in some of my first videos after the purchase is that when someone buys Decent, they will use every opportunity to mention it- hence the icon 😛
@@mycoffeeshow111 Oh, okay. I figured it was different since Jhin said it made him laugh. Not sure why a picture of your Decent machine would make him laugh 😆. I’ve had my DE1 XL for a couple years now and love it! I like your energy and it’s fun to watch your videos! You have a new subscriber!! (I found your channel this morning when I was searching for Decent comparisons between Londinium and Cremina profiles)
Hi Jack. Great to see you using Iron & Fire. I’ve been subscribing with them for the last 18 months. Tried their Colombian Jazz and it catapulted me into the speciality coffee rabbit hole! Great company to deal with, fair prices, compostable bags and some great single origin and blends. I do like to shop around and try different brands but I kept going back to them. Pleased you gave them a shout out. Keep the video’s coming!!
Thank you. Each time a viewer recommends a roaster I put it on the list. This is my first bag from them and is very good. I have another in my freezer, matured in whiskey barrels- should be interesting.
Thx for watching. It might work- please keep me posted. Recently I played with Rok brewer which looks like combination of V60 and LilyDrip: ua-cam.com/video/EnDx5-i4FfE/v-deo.html
Hey Jack, where can I find the flavor wheel you have behind you? And regarding lilydrip, it's not worth the money, you can control everything by adjusting grind size and how you pour :).
Jack, a great start to a video here... Why did you not finish the experiment!?? Clearly you need to try a brew with a finer grind. The website told you it would brew faster so obviously it was going to extract less than your first cup! Would loved to have seen what true effect the lilydrip has on cup quality when given a chance!
Thank you. Good point. You are right. I haven’t even thought about it until I finished editing. They said it will speed up the process, but as far as I am aware, they didn’t explicitly said to grind finer. Main purpose of the video was to see if there is any difference.
I just got that and wasn't exactly sure yet how to use that negotiator, I'm not sure I'm a fan of that, I saw there's another device you can get with it that I don't think you need to flip your filters around, that would be better. Some filters might have an different interior and exterior surface. Messing around with paper filters isn't something I really wanna do, I'd probably end up ripping them :p Interesting you seemed to get more brightness on your first try, I would assume using a lilydrip might make it more similar to a flat bottom filter brewer which generally has less brightness and maybe more sweetness. I guess that slightly faster brew time actually did do something. You also used fast flowing paper so that might have worked against it!
Thank you for sharing your experience. I had use it for a while and I think it does “something “ but not sure if it is so much better than V60 without it. It definitely helps with clogging so maybe if you use coffee with lots of fines it can be helpful.
I just finished brewing using Ethiopian Yugacheffe (spelled wrong). It was roasted dark. I used your recipe 15g medium slightly coarse grind on a Fellow Ode 4.1 on dial with SSPMP burrs - to 225 water but a lower 90C temp. Brewed in a V02 (should have tried V03 as the grinds were close to the top). I'm still learning flavor notes and how to describe them - a lot of notes are foods listed that I don't have in my area. The notes I can tell is chocolate and pick up just a little bitterness in the finish. Will try later a little coarser grind. I do not think the Lilydrip is something I will use daily as it wasn't fun retrieving out of the grinds. This was fun to do and really like doing stuff like this. Cheers.
@@coffeecove7058 Thank you for sharing! My recipe (which I stole from Lance but who cares 😛) is mostly for light roasts. I have never tried it for dark. I had 1 pour over with Lily D this morning and it run too fast again even on low settings but taste was good. At the end just throw the filter away and Liliy D will stay in V60. All the best!
Very possibly you are right. I do use Lily Drip daily now, and it works ok, but can’t say I can detect that much difference apart from coffee brewing faster
I counted two insults today and I even liked the video before the first one! Also nice pour over camera! I think you need to grind finer though and try it again, especially if your extraction went down.
No insults were intended but apologies anyway. Yep, I will play with it more. The plan was to compare them at the same settings and see if there is a difference but lots of viewers mentioned I should have tried again.

I like your video but I can't say I'm sold on the idea of the Lilidrip. It does prolong the time needed to prepare a cup.
Thx. I have played with it for a while now, and have to say it is ok. Recently I got Rok W1 with similar concept but already built in into the v60
Don’t know how to get a hold of Lilli Gripp one of them are broke
@@joepardi9369 not sure really. I bought mine long ago on Amazon. Maybe try on Instagram?
Well, your temp is so high, above the maximum 96 degrees Celsius recommendation for coffee, and that's for lighter roasts. Shalom.
You might be right here although some pro baristas use 98c. Right now I operate in around 93.
It sounds like it effectively makes a V60 act like a Melitta. Just as well save your money and buy the $5 Melitta cone in the first place.

Be interested to know how you get on if you continue to tinker with your recipe? Have to agree thats rather expensive for a moulded piece of plastic
Will be testing that. The main piece seems ceramic.
