I stayed on the grounds here as a child in the late 1970s. I'll never forget walking in the early summer morning around by the mausoleum to the sound of peacocks. It's an absolutely wonderful place!
My last name is Howard, I live in New England. The Howard family has lived in Vermont at least since late 1700's. These could be my ancestors.
I’m a Howard descendant..
@@shellyvester1737 I am of that family . My dad is buried there, so will I be. All male Howard's are buried at that castle .
@@paulpetarson1724In England people are buried anywhere. Amazing.
Viví en Leeds hace años y lo vi muchas veces. Es hermoso.
@@shellyvester1737 then we are related .
As a widow who is no longer able to get to these places anymore, i can't thank you enough for all the work you put into your videos. It's just wonderful and very much appreciated. Thank you so much. 😊🏴
Jacqueline Noble. I would recommend anyone to pay a visit. The Castle and grounds are beautiful. My personal favourite place. It’s quite a distance from me but I really want to go this year. 😊😊
Our pleasure so glad we can share it with you.
This channel deserves so much more attention than it recieves
We are getting there, and are very happy with almost getting to 100k. It takes time we have been going almost 4 years and it gets harder each day to reply to all the comments!
Absolutely
This is a real civilization.
Well said…and it has to be said!
Lol.
This type of idiotic comment receives so much more attention than it deserves.
Vielen Dank 🙏🙋♀️🇩🇪
Another exquisite building that I didn't know existed. The interior is breath taking and a total contrast to the boring modern buildings being built today. A peek into how the gentry lived. Another vlog that I will watch over again as there is so much to see. Thanks Simon and Will, I love starting my Sunday mornings strolling around new places with you. Take care =-)
Glad we have been able to show you a new place you were unaware of Lorraine. As always thank you for watching.
Watch Brideshead Revisited. It was used in both the superior miniseries and the lackluster (too abbreviated) film version.
"The fourth and fifth Earls WOULD fill the house". NO ! Why the conditional ? Try, "The fourth and fifth Earls filled the house .....".
" Guests WOULD have arrived in horse-drawn carriages". If they had been invited ..... is that what the narrator means ?
Pellegini's paintings were not, and are not, "incredible". They are perfectly credible. They are there aren't they ? If the narrator wishes to gush, he could describe them as "superlative" or something similar,(they are not), but certainly not "incredible"
I thank your Simon and Will, nonetheless, for this video. They have shewn me enough to save me from wasting money on a visit. I had my suspicions and they have confirmed that it is, along with everything that Vanbrugh and/or Hawksmoor had anything to do with ..... GROSSLY UGLY .....as is St Paul's Cathedral AND that monstrosity in Oxfordshire. I would rather look up at the ceiling in my local Lidl.
@Lorraine Richardson The gentry still live like that. The Howard built the house and continue to reside here.
@@terryhoath1983 Do you need to be so rude and patronising? I spotted six errors in your comment. You clearly don't check what you write (or if you did then go back to school).
I appreciate your efforts & perfection in each video, even the background music which is sp pleasant & relaxing... Beauty of castle is just beyond words, it's architecture, lake, gardens, parks & its treasured collection of antiques are so interesting & fascinating 😀😊 England's beauty was what i learned from books 📚, since I never been there till day but your videos bought life to my imaginations.. thank u
Thank you for your commentary ànd brilliant photography.... Valérie ❤️ no
Charles Carlisle was ''A gentleman of the King's bedchamber. The duties of the Lords and Gentleman of the Bedchamber originally consisted of assisting the monarch with dressing, waiting on him when he ate, guarding access to his bedchamber and closet and providing companionship.....and providing companionship. Do you think that these days he would be known as a pimp to royalty? That is a serious question.
Forever in my mind as a staring role in Brideshead Revisited.
There is something about those wide open spaces, with the "natural" landscape designed to perfection. I hadn't realized the house took 100 years to build! The art collection there is incredible! I recall a few scenes from Brideshead Revisited, where the actors walked those long halls with statues, and had some hard conversations in the chapel. Thank you for braving the rain for a better look at the grounds. Another great tour!
Yes the artwork is amazing, it really needs to be seen first hand and close up. What a collection! It was a wet old day but I think we managed ok!
Enjoying this in Australia at 1am as I couldn’t sleep. Your voice is very calming and the video is excellent, keep up the good work.👏👏👏💗🇦🇺
Thank you for the wonderful tour and thank you to the Howard family for allowing you to video for public viewing!
Keep up the good work 👍
JIM ❤
E' meraviglioso poter viaggiare con voi nel tempo e nei luoghi.....senza alzarsi dalla poltrona. Grazie!!
Sono così felice che ti piacciano i viaggi. Grazie.
Thank you Will and Simon for another excellent tour and commentary on Castle Howard.
It brings back memories of my favourite BBC adaptation of Evelyn Waugh's book Brideshead revisited first shown early 1980's
Castle Howard was used as the Flyte family pile in Brideshead Revisited.
I just started watching you videos from the US. My grandparents were immigrants from England and it's inspired me to visit. You do a phenomenal job of showing incredible places to visit in the UK and describing the history. If you don't do tours you should.
Thank you so much, so glad you liked it. Welcome to the channel. I am not sure I would be a very good tour guide, trying to remember all the facts! Its one thing to write down to do the voiceovers but all the little details for different places I think I would get lost! haha 😊
Thanks for the tour of Castle Howard, I love the purely English style of castles, the architecture, painting, sculpture and engineering structures that the English aristocracy is famous for are impressive. Fantastic garden, the owners had a delicate taste and sense of style, the nature is amazing, these fountains are simply suitable for filming a movie and no scenery is needed. I wish England to cherish all this beauty, this is a memory of history, of those people who created these beautiful castles that we look at and admire. Hello from St.Petersburg. Come, we also have many palaces and something to admire. With a deep sense of gratitude. Thank you sincerely for the pleasure. ❤❤❤❤❤
Are you joking. English? Italians had a lot to do with this castle.
This is where they filmed Daphne and Simon's visit to his ancestral home in Netflix's Bridgerton
We visited today. It was amazing, all decorated for Christmas. 🌲
Nice to find out more about it's history.
Спасибо архитекторам , строителям, художникам , всем мастерам , которые создавали этот великолепный шедевр !
Wonderful visit to Castle Howard visited there a few years ago..as a senior “immigrant here🇨🇦after WW2,it is nice to see my home country
Thank you for giving this lovely tour. It certainly is very grand! Beyond words, really! So glad it has been kept up and it can be seen by so many !
Glad you enjoyed it!
Simply beautiful. The workmanship on absolutely everything is breathtaking ❤
Hello 👋 how're you doing?
Спасибо за интересную экскурсию. Очень красиво. Удачи и процветания хозяину замка. До новых встреч. 🤝🤝🤝
FANTASTIC video . That is one Amazing Home. And you even get to your it . .. amazing. Thanks again for sharing It Sir🙏🏼.
So great it's still in the family.
I’m glad that some families were able to preserve their legacy
Visited Castle Howard imi early 1983. It was Magnificent!
Hi Simon and Will. Howard Castle was meant to impress and it succeeded. The interior is warm, elegant and inviting. The exterior, grounds and gardens don’t disappoint. Thanks for the tour of this beautiful place. I look forward to Whitby next week. Stay well. ❤
The tv series Time Team did an episode where the show’s archaeologists dug the village that existed here before they were evicted to build the castle.
Yep, it's bad enough that you have to let the scruffy peasants in sometimes to be able to afford to maintain your modest hut. Imagine having to have them permanently spoiling your view! 😱😜😁
It's very reminiscent of the Old College, part of Edinburgh University, where I used to work. 😀
I visited this beautiful castel some years ago, but on a sunny day. Insider we could not see much because of renovations. The most impressive building for me was the Tempel of the four Winds and the overwhelming view over the Park and the lakes. Unforgettable. Thanks for you Video.
You braved the english weather and your viewers were rewarded for it: thanks for showing us a glorious piece of good old England on a typically english rainy day!
Our pleasure!
Leaves one breathless with it's beauty!!!
My mom and I were there ten years ago. We only had a few hours available, so we just toured the house and walked around the gardens directly next to the building, but it was very impressive.
(I will admit that my favorite manor house on that trip was actually Dunrobin Castle north of Inverness-it is not quite as imposing as Castle Howard and more charming as a result.)
My favourite has always been Stokesay at the evocatively named Craven Arms out on the Welsh Borders. But then I'm just a peasant and that is very much more on my scale. 🙄😉
Did you go up to the Temple of the Four Winds? There are marvellous views from there over the estate.

Ничего, все продолжается … thanks for this video 🙏🙏🙏
Stunning! The Howard family is my ancestors and was interesting to see the castle.
Thank you for outstanding videos every time!
Glad you enjoyed it
When we traveled to the British Open in St. Andrews in 2010, we toured Castle Howard. That jaw-dropping view of the great hall and the view of the fountain in the distance was really something! A very beautiful estate. They were setting up fireworks for a party of some sort that was being held on the grounds later that day.
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for such a great video . A grand house without a doubt ,not to mention all the artwork . I personally will always think of Castle Howard as Brideshead .
I loved this video!! You did a fantastic job of balancing current and historical information with gorgeous images of the castle and grounds. Great job, boys!
Amazing .. takes my breath away just seeing all the beautiful architecture & art work. Everything so elegantly detailed. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you for sharing this adventure, I appreciate the details, dates and background you provided, it makes me feel as if I’m right along side you. Even though it was raining you still managed to capture the beautiful garden. Great job 👏
Thank you for the lovely comment.
What a wonderful tour! And what wonderful tour-guides! Your tone and the content is pitched perfectly, to create a really beautiful, relaxing and engaging tour. Thanks so much! And well done for all the hard work these videos must entail! :)
Thank you so much for the lovely comment. 😊
This was wonderful. Thank you and that darn rain.
Glad you liked it!
A great video. Who would have thought there'd be a gloomy wet day on the Yorkshire moors? You did well to accomplish so much outdoor filming in those conditions. Looking forward to the next one, where it looks as if you were luckier with the weather.
It was the worst day of the week, that we had on the trip. I think we were pretty lucky with the weather generally. It can be a wet place to visit that is for sure! Whitby was lovely and got quite hot in the afternoon! Hope you like it Jim.
I first found out about it watching Brideshead Revisited. Back in the 80s. Incredible house and incredible miniseries
Lovely commentary and content, pace just right. Very relaxing and informative to watch. Thank you!
Stunningly beautiful estate and equally stunning video and commentary . Thank you very much.
I love your tours of ancient & historic homes, castles and beautifully landscaped gardens. This was so enjoyable. I've never been through an ancient castle but did spend two days touring Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California. Beautiful, but no comparison.
Absolutely stunning! Thank you ❤️🙏Amazing to say the least.
Thank you so much! . Was a wonderful tour and journey. ✌️. This kind of suprises always delight a new day.
Wow It is grand! I spent 9 weeks in UK last summer. But I missed this place. I stayed 3 nights in York but I didn't have a information.
Thank you for the Video. Your other videos of Winchester and Cotswold helped my trip a lot. And thank you for Korean subtitles
So glad you have found them helpful 😊
A timeless building so beautiful and well looked after thank you for this wonderful video thumbs up ❤
Oh, to be a child and have the run of the grounds! Simply stunning. Thank you for these lovely videos, so calm and relaxing. I've liked and subscribed.
What an absolutely beautiful place on earth. ❤
Thank you guys for another lovely video! Such a large and stately home! The paintings were really impressive. The lake views were really beautiful! Looking forward to seeing Whitby!!
Brought back many fond memories of my visit there in 2018. It was thrilling to see this beautiful manor house where Brideshead Revisited was filmed. I even met Anthony Andrews, who played Sebastian Flyte in London in 2003. They don’t make houses or shows like that anymore 🇺🇸❤️🏴
Glad this stirred the memories for you 😊
No, they don't, not with that commitment
Oh wow! I so loved Brideshead Revisited when it was on TV back in the 1980s - everyone at my convent school loved it! We all wanted to meet Anthony Andrews AKA Sebastian and his teddy! It was a superb adaptation with a stellar cast and great music.
I must return to Castle Howard one day soon.
Very jealous of you meeting Anthony Andrews! I had such a HUGE crush on him in Brideshead and Danger UXB! I live in the US, and had to catch those shows on PBS at the time.
@@patdonnelly9392 He was starring as Professor Higgins in My Fair Lady and I met him after the show. It was thrilling to meet him and the show was spectacular!
Thank you both for another wonderful video. I am a full time carer for my husband and daughter. We cannot visit these places now as both use wheelchairs. I feel like i am there with you and am seeing the places in person. Maybe one day i will get to see some of them in person but at the moment i am content in going with you and your narrative is exceptional. Thank you so very much. It brightens up my day when i sit down with a cuppa for a bit of quiet. Please keep it up xxxx
Thank you for the lovely comment, we are so pleased that in some way our videos have been able to allow you to see the locations. All the best.
What a beautiful family home! Stunning landscapes. Sorry that the rain kept you from the gardens but what you show is over the top. Thanks for your hard work, it's appreciated!
Thank you glad you enjoyed it. The rain was quite bad at times as you can see. I am surprised the camera survived it!
The beautiful countryside reminds me of Chillingbourne.
You might like this video we made in Kent ua-cam.com/video/eIh6h7hhbxc/v-deo.html used as Chillingbourne for the film.
I was able to understand it more deeply because you added subtitles. Thank you!👍👍👍
I would hate to see the electric bill 😮
Also, could you imagine keeping that yuuuge place, clean & dusted😳
Thank you, it’s been a delight revisiting this “enchanted palace” again, albeit in virtual mode from far away Australia. My first visit was 45 years ago, way before the Brideshead phenomenon and I don’t think there was even a gift shop or cafe then, thrilled to see how “loved” it still is.
Castle Howard was used in the greatest series Brideshead Revisited, such an awesome 80s production!
Thanks guys, another interesting tour into history. Some kind of place!!
What an amazing building, absolutely stunning and the production of the video second to none, thanks for sharing such masterpiece.
Stunning video which has been created with so much thought. It was a pity the weather was not good for you both on the day you visited. I have been fortunate to visit Castle Howard about ten years ago and I have to say the video does it great justice. Thank you, Will and Simon, for yet another excellent video. Sophie.
Glad you have been and seen it, hopefully on a drier day!
You guys Really outdid yourselves on this tour Wow! I was there some years ago and mist so many details. Must go back and see again. Many thanks❤
I hope you make it back, well worth the trip, just find a sunny day to explore outside!
Was just in Yorkshire England last week. I did see the sign as we were driving down the street. I’ll be back and I plan on visiting 👍
Very interesting and visually stunning tour of the estate! I actually loved seeing the garden in the rain but I image it was a bit of a pain to shoot it, so extra thanks for doing so! Really looking forward to the Whitby video, looks to be something extra special!
Yes it was horrible at times to try and film but at least we got something to share. Whitby was much better!
I look at it and see Brideshead. I read the book, saw the series more than once and see the Flytes living there!
0:40 Far-out that Arch Entrance is super cool 🆒😎.
As always, Thank You Simon and Will for this!!! Now I know when l eventually return to England, I will be staying and spending my time on that trip exploring Yorkshire. The Yorkshire tour videos you have provided are an excellent guide for visitors wanting to make their own itinerary and go places on your own time table. Thank You!!!!
I highly recommend stopping by Rievaulx Abbey not too far from Castle Howard. It was my favorite spot on my trip ten years ago. So quiet and peaceful, and the ruins are just stunning.
I hope you do come to Yorkshire, it was our first time and have to say we loved it and miss it now! Will be going back for sure.
