In the 1970's we went to the Isle of Wight for a week's holiday and visited Osborne House which was pure magic. We also went to Cowes to see the Royal yacht with the Royal Family on board and saw Prince Phillip taking Charles and Anne out in their boat from the Royal Yacht Britannia. the Isle of Wight albeit small was pure magic. This post brings back so many wonderful memories, as my husband and elder son are no longer with us.
So glad you enjoyed the tour and the memories it stirs. We have just been to see Britannia in Edinburgh if you would like to see the famous Yacht ua-cam.com/video/piI3wIYkziQ/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
I love how the interior has a light, airy feeling to it --- so different from the dark, wooded tartan-bedecked interior of Balmoral. At Osborne House, I can see how the Royal Family felt they could relax and breathe freely.
Osbourne is a place I would very much like to visit and this is a super video. I did not know it was QUITE so elaborate. Such incredible detail especially in the plasterwork. thank you for this beautifully filmed tour.
Beautifully done, thank you! This gives a really great picture of what a visit to Osborne is like. I grew up just down the road from Osborne (in much humbler surroundings, of course!). Back then, you could pay to visit the grounds and Swiss Cottage separately, which was cheaper, and made for a lovely walk, especially in summer. One thing I would point out is that it is the Durbar Room, not the Dunbar Room. Durbar was the name for a court or official reception held by an Indian prince. One of my favourite places in the house, along with the corridor of portraits that leads to it.
I was there on the 8th September and I totally agree, it is a magnificent place. You truly feel you have taken a peek into the lives of Victoria and Albert. The beach is so peaceful and the scenery is amazing. I went by hovercraft from Portsmouth to IOW and back. It was on the way back I learnt of the passing of Queen Elizabeth. Thank you for posting this and letting me see it all again. Absolutely beautiful place.
I would love to try the hovercraft over. I believe it’s one of the last public services you can get in the U.K. maybe the world? It looks great fun and so quick!
@@MemorySeekers yes I believe it is. It’s a lovely walk from Portsmouth to Southsea, then the hovercraft takes you to Ryde on the IOW. We then took a bus from Ryde station to Osborne. The views en route from the bus are amazing too. So to anyone that doesn’t drive, it’s easy to get to via public transport. You should try the hovercraft, not cheap, but amazing fun and like you say, the only hovercraft service left and only takes 10 minutes. In Portsmouth, take a trip up to the Spinnaker Tower too. The views are fabulous. The cafe below does some great food and snacks. We had a fantastic time, in Portsmouth and on the IOW 👍
@@MemorySeekers did you see the ‘trenches’ the children dug in the gardens around the Swiss Cottage? Such cheeky stories that accompanied the games the children use to play there. Just shows that children will be children no matter what privileges or not they are born into. So sweet. Osborne really brings that family to life. Unfortunately the upstairs nursery etc were closed to the public when I was there, so I’m really pleased I saw them in your video. Great work as always Gents. Thank you. Can I make a suggestion, as someone who doesn’t have a car, could you give suggestions for all the wonderful places you visit, a quick mention of how to get there by public transport? Or nearest train station, bus service etc or if there’s none, let us know? I’ve watched so many of your wonderful videos and dreamed of going to these places and would love to hear how easy, or not, it would be to get to them by public transport. I know I can look it up, but it’s not the same as hearing it first hand from someone who has been there. Thank you again gents.

Excellent video on the beautiful Osborne House. I can see why it was a beloved retreat for the royal family, just as is Balmoral. Lovingly preserved and so well presented here. Greetings from southwestern USA.

It's funny I should see this video on my main feed on yt. I was watching the TV show Edward 7th, and they mentioned Osborne house. How he donated it to the military for a hospital or something like that.
Magnifique! Such a combination of cinematography and historical perspective - bravo! I have read several biographies of Queen Victoria and Albert and the importance of Osborne House to them both. Your vlog brings the home to vivid life. Great job!

I was not familiar with the Osborne House and found this video extremely interesting. I was named after Queen Victoria so it touched my heart to get a more personal glimpse into her life and family. Truly a magnificent home. Thank you for sharing.
The boys are back with another excellently produced touristic overview! Never did get "offshore" to any of the Islands around the British coast in my former traveling days. Certainly easier to enjoy it from a comfortable rocking chair these days. I'll have to check if there is 1 for the Channel Isles - always would have liked to have visited Gerald Durrell's Zoo on Jersey. A visit to Marwell wasn't a bad substitute though. 🙂
I myself had a visit to Osborne house July 2022.It was absolutely beautiful..I was very impressed..I certainly didn't want to leave..I shall most definitely be having another visit..hopefully very shortly..many thanks for sharing this absolutely stunning place 😀

Our pleasure!
An excellent video as usual. Well done. Look forward to one on the Royal Pavilion Brighton one day maybe. Jeff
Yes I just popped that on the list recently, kind of forgot it was there!
Magnifique! Such a combination of cinematography and historical perspective - bravo! I have read several biographies of Queen Victoria and Albert and the importance of Osborne House to them both. Your vlog brings the home to vivid life. Great job!

Thank you so much!
Thank you that was lovely, I really enjoyed that
So glad!
I was not familiar with the Osborne House and found this video extremely interesting. I was named after Queen Victoria so it touched my heart to get a more personal glimpse into her life and family. Truly a magnificent home. Thank you for sharing.
Stunning!
It really is!
We have been to Guernsey which was stunning. Video on the channel of that trip. Heading to Jersey this august to compare. 😊
I myself had a visit to Osborne house July 2022.It was absolutely beautiful..I was very impressed..I certainly didn't want to leave..I shall most definitely be having another visit..hopefully very shortly..many thanks for sharing this absolutely stunning place 😀

Fascinating and, as usual, so well done! Thanks for the tour.

I am in the USA. I can only imagine living near these treasures to visit. Ty! My relatives are from Askham Tower. I would love to visit there too.
