As a Cosmetologist whyyyyy aren't y'all reporting these places to the state board! You don't even have to talk to them just the board who will be on YOUR side!
It’s super easy to report too!!! Division of consumer affairs in most states you just need the salon name or anyone that works there, first name and the addresses show up. (Also a cosmetologist) please please please report.
THIS THIS THIS ^^^ fellow cosmetologist here (well I used to be back in the day!!) these people are ripping money from our wallets after putting bad taste in innocent clients mouths and forcing them to start doing their services at home :(
The nurses with the long nails, it was back in like 96 & 97 and 2 nurses were found to gave bacteria under their nails that were linked to the deaths of 16 babies in Oklahoma. That's about the time they started implementing policies regarding long nails.
I work as an admin in a hospital, and even for us, if we have longer nails, they have to be clean - they have to be short enough to type and wear gloves without ripping - I keep my nails around 1/4 inch
Fun fact. While taking a food safety course to become a baker, while I study for my phd in virology. I found out acrylic nails are considered a biohazard due to the inability to properly remove bacteria and gunk from the nails. We are not allowed to have them to keep sanitation up and the spread of illness down.
@@SweetUareDesi you'd be surprised based on the fact many people still wear them. Why walk around with ten biohazards on your hands, if you don't know or don't care.
Yes same thing here. I have naturally long nails that I keep very clean, but even those I had to cut when I was working in the food industry. They are no nonsense with that. Short tidy nails.
The older I've gotten, the more comfortable I've gotten with confrontation. I don't even get my nails done, but I deal with constant mistreatment in the medical field for my chronic illnesses. You HAVE to be your own advocate, no one else will!
Im also the same. It took me 3 months of being inpatient to learn how to become my own self-advocate. I had to make decisions for myself on the spot with no one else to ask for help. Now, Im good with politely confronting but if I need to be firm I can
Read my comment above. I know where you're coming from. I think the heinous care I've witnessed from Drs really pushed me over the edge w not being quiet or taking any BS.
@@the5stacys how do you advocate for yourself when your doctor thinks you're exaggerating? he says my CONSTANT back pain is from anxiety...when I have eds (I'm positive I have a herniated disc, I messed my back up almost 2 years ago and it's only gotten worse and worse, had anxiety my entire life and never dealt with this until I messed my back). I think it's because I'm young.
Some of these at home nail techs are charging diabolical prices for the most basic sets ever. I saw this one girl charge $120 for regular French nails on natural short nails. No length, no charms, nothing…….and it was $120 💀
Girl, think i know exactly who ur talking about lol she does this girls named Amber She charged her $120 for nail remobal and short french nails. Bruh!!!!! I think its crazy!
A lot of those posts are rage bait. They put outrageous prices in the video to get people to comment on it because it generates engagement. And it works. The set probably only cost $40 or $50 but that doesn’t get clicks. They make more money from online outrage than they do from nails. Don’t take the bait.
Honesty a massive tip is getting blank press ons and painting them completely how you want and curing etc before putting them on. Create sets for yourself
Imagine carrying your baby for 9 months just for them to die because someone, who was supposed to know better, but didn't do better, wanted to look pretty. Dang, that's a thirteenth reason right there.
@@gemstar7286Most of the time they don’t. Doing something ill-advised out of ignorance isn’t prioritizing vanity. Unfortunately hindsight is 20/20. It feels obvious because we know the outcome.
I worked at a hospice like setting in 2010 and the nursing staff weren't allowed to wear acrylic nails because of bacteria. It's been known how they transmit bacteria (it's as the grow out abd6tge bacteria settle into the gap between the artificial nail and the cuticle) but until something bad happens, everyone turns a blind eye.
In Germany, you are not allowed to wear even plain old nail polish if you are working at food production, as a nurse, with people with immune system conditions and so on. You have to do a yearly mandatory hygiene course for 2 hours where it is shown how nail polish after 24 hours is able to harbour fungus and bacteria etc and easily transfers it to everything it touches. Seriously gross
Salon owner here. Hi. My god I have so much I want to say. Stop going to peoples homes to have your nails done. And if you are, make sure, at minimum they have a license, from the state, to actually touch you. If the price is suspiciously low ($25-35 full set). Ask questions. It’s so important that your tech can do more than just make a pretty nail. But a lot of them aren’t even doing that. The salon in the first video was literally criminal. That was SHUT DOWN type of behavior. Absolutely abhorrent. These salons are using MMA monomer on y’all which is corrosive and illegal, as are “cheese graters” on the the feet by the way. and I can tell just by looking at it, but filing MMA to fill it, ALWAYS smells like cat pee. the girl with the multicolored french, her nails were ruined. PSA, if the salon smells like a meth lab. Leave. Don’t even ask. They will destroy your nails no question. If they use tips, credit cards or cuticle pushers to remove your nails by force. Leave. Cheese grater on your feet. Leave. The damage I see from sets like this is often irreversible and these salons make people think it’s all normal. It’s not and it’s so sad when I have people come in for repairs and fixes for things that are common sense for trained and licensed techs, who take pride in their work. Y’all are getting ripped off with these places being unsanitary and charging $100 for unacceptable application and finished product. At my salon a full set is $50 for short square +10 for gel polish and +$10 for chrome. And you better believe it’s coming out correct. And everything is CLEAN. Especially when it comes to pedicures. My staff is TRAINED. And actually want to do a good job. You need to go to techs who actually want to be doing nails. That’s the only way to get a good set. And it’ll be worth any price when you find the right one.
I'm a nurse in Sweden and here we are not allowed to have even nail polish on when we work, not to mention acrylics or any kind of fake nails. You aren't allowed to have long nails even if they are your own, they still carry more bacteria and you might accidentally scratch a patient with them. This is against the hygienic rules for all that work in the hospitals (that are in touch with the patients at least) It doesn't matter how long your fake nails are, the bacteria will get under them and spread infections. I get my nails done for my holiday and keep them very clean for the few weeks I'm off in the summer. Otherwise it's just not something you can do if you work as a nurse. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I caused an infection to someone just because of my vanity.
In Australia most hospitals will say no fake nails, but it depends where you work. When I worked in a hospital I sometimes had acrylics but they were never long and I wore gloves for EVERYTHING (except for obs or making a bed, because they make those jobs hard) but I wore gloves for every time I touched a patient anyway because I could not live with myself if I caused an infection in someone or scratched someone, I wouldn’t even wear my engagement ring or a watch - but for my own safety too, because no one cares if you get sick, they will just find someone else to do your job. A nurse should have enough sense to not be told to not have long nails, it blows my mind how many infections happen because nurses are dumb
@@BeautyofValinor where on earth did you work?! In NSW and WA it's no fake nails allowed whatsoever and no nail polish allowed. Some people try get away with it with short natural looking nails but if management sees or another nurse isn't scared of being bullied out of their job for reporting it, the nails or polish had to come off
Here in Germany, I have noticed some medical assistants in doctor's offices with long fake nails, who would also do tasks like taking blood samples. They have to use gloves, but when the glove ripped on one of them, she was laughing it off. I do think hospitals are as strict as in Sweden though.
After close to 35 years of acrylics and bad salon experiences, last September I decided enough was enough. I now have accumulated so much product and experience to do whatever I want to my long nails❣️Nail techs can no longer refer/force me to work with people who don’t know what they’re doing, etc! This is not to say it was/is easy, but I’ve learned so much and really enjoy the outcome. Before, it was a hit or miss. I can have stilettos, long almonds, squares, coffins and any design I am capable of. Thank you for doing this video. People really need to understand the pitfalls when using gel products. I found this very informative❣️
@@cami5173 agreed. if you're 'not confrontational' to the point that you aren't capable of standing up for your wants or needs, GO TO A COUNSELLOR OR THERAPIST!!! learn why you struggle with that, and develop those skills. it's so vital to be able to stand up for yourself, especially as a woman.
I'm a cosmetologist that now works at the dermatologist office. The amount of people who do NOT understand contact dermatitis is insane. We test them, confirm that they have allergies to either the glue or the acrylics, and they come back after a few weeks with a fresh set of nails and complain about dermatitis flaring up. It can lead to PERMANENT deformities of the nail. Take care of yourselves everyone!
I have sensitive skin so it's no surprise I eventually developed an allergy to acrylics. But the ITCH!! For whatever reason running hot water on my itchy cuticles would hurt but also be relief. But I knew it probably wasn't a good thing to keep doing that.
You have to stop being afraid of the opinion of man. Why are you anxious? I say that as someone who was like this…then I realized that I have no reason to give a fuck about what they think of me. Freedom.
Laws for sanitation and food are surprisingly lax in America, compared to most European countries. Most laws are in place only to protect profit, sanitation and safety are secondary priorities. :/
I’m a nurse anesthetist for a plastic surgery center. I scrub before and after each patient. Natural nails are testing enough to keep sanitary. It’s easy to pop a gloved finger with regular nails. I don’t have a lot of contact with my patients but I do have a soul. Food workers, nurses and doctors should be mindful.
I'm an anesthetist too. Work at high acuity center with patients who really CANT handle any kind of infection. Our hospital doesn't allow regular nail polish bc of chipping and then the hard gel nails have to be short. We have a lady who walks around with nail polish remover and also will report if your nails are too long. And this applies to ALL OR staff.
I’m a food worker at a healthcare facility and I have to be double careful about how sanitary my hands are considering I work directly with an immunocompromised population. Although I don’t have long nails to worry about at least. My hands are constantly soaking up lotion from how damn dry they get washing them all the time lol.
I'm really starting to wonder why we women just let things happen to us, and often times, WE apologize. Are we trained to be quiet and not to say anything or what? We are afraid to be called a b-word.
I am personally… I don’t want to be seen as a “ angry black woman”. Even if you don’t yell you get called that stereotype. I just don’t get my nails done. I just my nails painted instead and on special occasions. I’m a press on girlie now instead to avoid bs in shops ❤
The reason why women choose to not say anything is because they are afraid to get beat up by a guy that won’t pick on his own size and instead attack women. But Generally speaking, the reason why women don’t want to get confrontational is because some of them don’t want the other person that is being confronted to cause more drama or possibly do something that can endanger your life.
We are afraid of being deemed a Karen. We need to understand as a culture that just because people are complaining doesn't make them entitled or angry.
In my experience, the nail techs don’t speak English! It’s so hard to communicate what you really want and even with someone that can translate- it always gets lost in translation smh
I’m proudly a “ press-on” girlie now😂. I put them on if I’m going out and pop them off when I no longer want to wear them. I only get pedicures at the salon because the process is relaxing. Getting my nails done never felt relaxing, it’s actually exhausting .
I only do press ons. I just want to have have cute nails for going out. I work in software and on the computer all damn day. Anything but my natural nails really affects how I type
... Getting your nails done nowadays is so outrageously expensive, so now I just do them myself at home and wear SPF on my hands when I go under the UV light.
I've been doing the same thing since the 2020 circumstances and I will say, if you haven't been, PLEASE get clear false nails to put on your fingers before you do gel. Gel on natural nails can create a skin allergy and can also ruin your nail matrix Edit: also not a dermatologist nor a cosmetologist, this is just something I have learned from doing my own nails because I have very sensitive skin and almost really messed myself up
I am a 47 year-old woman when they started charging $125 set then I just started doing my own! Come on now girls we’ve been doing this stuff for years you’ve got this!!!! I love learning new things to do with my nails!!!
I do my own nails too! However, as an artist myself, I absolutely respect the pricing. The girls want long nails, blinged out with designs for $50-$75 and that’s just not happening. Licensed or not. The time and materials alone justifies the price.
I agree! I went to school and got my nail tech license so I could do my own nails. I haven’t done my nails in years due to having anemia finger nail issues, but if I want to, I can do my own acrylics, gels, sculpture etc.
I have never had this kind of money for nails. And most of the culture I don’t understand, but I respect that people have different interests and this is a big part of many female cultures. I really liked your style, I’m a first time viewer and would watch another vid. Entertaining, down-to-Earth, nice variety even if one isn’t super into the topic.
This is why these nail techs are how they are! Nobody calls them OUT ON THEIR CRAP! The girl with the bleeding nail and boy saying anything!!! Glue on the open wound!!?? Like NOOOOO . These techs need to be checked and KNOW that ppl will call you out and you need to step it up as a professional! But they KNOW your going to just sit there and take it and they carry on acting like nothings happening. Nahh that’s why I have gained the skills to be my own nail tech! I’m a licensed cosmologist but my focus is hair so I still had to learn like anyone else could as well. It takes me soooo long but at least I get exactly what I want!
When I went to get my nails done for my wedding, the tech I went to did not want to listen to what I wanted, made my nails longer than I asked for to charge me more, and claimed there was no wayni could get a shimmer polish on the tips of my nails. She was also upset I didn't want gel on my toes. She cut my finger and didn't charge the extra for the longer length. I ended up going to a different salon to get my nails fixed. They fixed my nails to what I wanted and I could hear the manager talking to the other place I went to telling them that they need to do better and what not.The manager was pressing that the tech was giving them all a bad name because she decided to think about her profit rather than building good repar and having repeat clients.
Cosmetology license holder here- I am qualified to do hair, skin and nails. This is my area of expertise. If something like this happens to you, report it to the State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology or whatever they call it in your state when you leave. This is the agency that grants and manages licenses. It’s where we have to test and demonstrate that we know how not to mangle customers. That’s literally what the license is for. The aesthetic side of things is on us to learn. State board is all scout safety and health. You are under zero obligation to allow them to complete the service. At any point, you can revoke your consent and say something along the lines of “Excuse me. I changed my mind about this service. Please stop.” You do NOT have to suffer through it, nor should you. Please take this as being empowered to speak up for yourself. There are very specific exceptions to this, for instance we cannot kick you out or really let you leave if you have color or bleach or texture treatments in your hair - but we can wash it out at any time. This is for your safety. Some of the things we use can melt your hair, eat right through your skin and get to work on the bone. Chemical burns are no joke. But that’s why we need a license to obtain and use the product on clients. It can be dangerous if mishandled. It might not look perfect, but we can absolutely abort mission and bail out at virtually any time. You can ask for a quote before they get started. As long as nothing changes about the service that affects the price, you have a right to know what you’re going to be expected to pay. Obviously there are things that affect price that can come up, but you have every right to transparency in pricing. You can also ask to be consulted and updated if a change may affect the price so you can plan and make informed decisions accordingly. Different salons have different power structures so going to the manager might not do anything - you could be speaking to a traditional manager, or the person who is responsible for the cleaning and changing the towels for the other business owners who rent space there. If there is a health or safety concern, state board is where you need to be. If you’re upset about the aesthetics of the work, then you likely need to discuss that with the tech. Tl;dr PLEASE SPEAK UP AND ADVOCATE FOR YOURSELF! Tell the tech if you don’t like the work. It is not rude to stop the service mid-way. If there is a health or safety hazard, take it to State Board! A little awkwardness can save you a lot of pain and suffering. If you would speak up for a friend in this scenario, speak up for yourself. You absolutely can, and should. You aren’t doing anything wrong by taking care of yourself.
I think part of the issue is that we as women are taught to not be confrontational. We don’t want to hurt peoples feelings and we don’t want to get into an unsafe situation. The thing is that these nail salons are unsafe and are putting us at risk. A lot of us definitely need to start standing up for ourselves, myself included. (Also helps to look at google and yelp reviews before going to a new place. I only go to salons with lots of reviews and 4.5 stars minimum.)
Cool. Not everyone can do that. Besides time which most of us don't have, many people have hand disabilities. Some days I can't even grip a hairbrush. Good for you but expecting everyone to do what you have the privilege of doing isn't a solution. Youre just bragging.
@@halien6384this girl in the beginning did look it up and it had a 4.2. You shouldn't have to go to a 5 star salon for basic hygiene. There may be only one or two salons available to them and if you've never been (i have never gotten a mani or pedi or anything like that) they won't know all of this or the risks.
A woman at my work LOST HER FINGER and almost died from an infection due to a cut she didn’t even know she had…imagine how bad things could be for you if you get a cut, or injury to your fingers in a dirty nail salon using inappropriate hygiene and manicure techniques 🤯🤯
This is why I won't go get mine done. That's just scary. I've always had a sensitive immune system, but since I was diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic...I get infections so damn easily it unbelievable. There is NO WAY I am losing a finger or toe for some pretty nails. Lmao
My aunt got some kind of nail infection from a nail salon. Apparently, the tools they used were dirty...there was pus, and she lost the skin off the top...it was horrid. Y'all...report these people so they change their ways or get shut down!
I really don’t understand why these people don’t say anything it’s crazy to just hear them say they sit there and take it. Don’t take it! These people will never learn that their actions are wrong. As a nail artist, I would be mortified if someone made a video like this? Customer satisfaction is key! Don’t suffer! Speak up! And at the end you really should not be paying for a service like this. Speak up for gods sake!!
Right?! It doesn't give them a chance to fix their mistake and now there's a bad review over a customer not speaking up and then the nail tech having no clue. I thought about doing nails myself, but don't because I'm slow. I would be MORTIFIED if I saw a video like that about my business because the customer refused to say anything and I don't realize that I did something wrong to upset her.
@@wintermoon7003 you think that nail salon was that dirty because they never learned about proper hygiene a day in their life? if she got up she would have written her off as a rude person. I’ve started doing my own structured manicures with gel polish at home. I am concerned about potential infection or reactions but I’ve done it 4 times now with no issue. Fingers crossed it continues like this because I love learning to do nail art, my nails are so cute and it’s affordable.
6:51 that woman is a HERO, she stayed in the trenches to deliver to us hard hitting investigative journalism. I cannot fathom why else, besides proof of the clown show, that she would stay
It was hard to watch, imagine if we also had someone like that working in a restaurant (not junk food because they've shown they're dirty many times), but a mid range, regular restaurant and what goes on between the long fake nails and people carrying and touching their phones all the time nowadays including in and out of the bathroom...yikesss
Yeah, it seems like she knows a lot about nail places and probably intentionally goes to bad places to investigate. Props to her and hopefully she is reporting those places as well
You're absolutely right. Getting your nails done is a luxury. I used to try and be "that girl" getting my manicure and pedicure redone every 2 weeks, and was always wondering why I was broke. I'm over it and choosing financial freedom. I'll stick to nail polish/dip powder.
My late sister used to get professional manicures and pedicures. I could never understand it. That, and Brazilian bikini waxes. I think I've gotten a total of maybe 3 manicures and one pedicure over the course of my life.
I literally just commented about this! She complained during the entire video, but she didn't say anything or stop the process, so??? Not condoning bad spa practices. That girl just seemed a bit silly to me.
For content. She didnt even blur that woman's face wouldn't be surprised if she gets doxxed and gets death threats when she should just get fired. I doubt the girl even reported her to the board. Bc its all for content.
Im learning to do my own nails right now and its difficult and discouraging. Thank you for posting this, its helping me to stay on track and keep in mind why i want to do them in the first place. A lot of the nail techs absolutely do not care or know how to do much of anything. I was trying to find a good tech but every place i went to sucked for different reasons. More recently i was sent out with a manicure and i had to tell the tech repeatedly that the nails were crooked and uneven. I brought up one particular nail to her 3 times because it was too short and instead of simply reapplying the tips (as thats all she had done at that point), she kept filing the nail so it "appeared" longer, aka made it skinnier.i told myself i could probably do a better job myself if i just tried, and so i bought a bunch of supplies for less than what it would cost for 1 trip to the salon.
One thing I learned from living in NY a lot of these nail shops 1 person has a license and the other employees just need a job. They have no cosmetology experience nor a license. But do not sit there and let anyone cause bodily harm to you allow you to sit in filth or use non sterilized equipment!
This is what they do at the Dominican salons as well, which is why I had to stop going to them. The owner is usually the only one licensed and then the non-licensed ones usually end up being the ones to destroy your hair.
I’m on LI and every salon I’ve ever been to- the license is on the wall behind each tech’s station. Not just the owner or manager. Individual pictures of the tech accompanied by their license.
That’s how it is everywhere I think. The Asian salons do this. They’ll have multiple generation of kids to elderly with no licenses and barely any skill.
I get anxiety, but I need these girls to start being confrontational. Because if the tech pulled up my natural nails, I personally may fight the fight her.
literally the only way to combat anxiety is to put yourself in situations where you feel it and overcome it. so many people are just lying down and not doing a thing for themselves. its beyond sad.

To make it worse, on tik tok there’s been healthcare workers arguing they only need to sanitize not wash their hands between patients 🥲🥲🥲 There literally are viruses not killed without the mechanical action of washing your hands under soap and water 😭🤢🤮
Sanitizing before going from room to room is customary. It was always like this and only changed cause of covid. There are certain virus’s that require soap to kill then but hand sanitizer is okay 95% of the other time. Washing with soap from patient to patient for a long period of time is nit healthy for the skin and can cause extreme dryness and irritability.
It's not even that soap kills them. Like cdiff isn't killed by soap or bleach. Instead the soap lubricates your hands and it slides off with your skin oils down the drain
When I worked at a hospital many moons ago we had to wash our hands each and every time we went into another room. Not just hand sanitizer. My hands were so tore up from that chlorhexidine soap 😢
@@every1needstacos801 the reason it’s not a general policy is because most hospitals don’t have sinks available outside patient rooms. Some of them don’t even have sinks inside the rooms depending on if you’re in an ER or transition floor. It’s not feasible

29:30 You absolutely SHOULD make charms for nails if you're already into resin projects. I do my own nails, and I honestly spend half my life on temu looking at nail charms. And I'll give you one good tip, there's not enough tiny charms. There are tons of big giant chunky ones, but very few teeny tiny ones, which I like more. Also, the smoother the surface, the better so it doesn't catch on hair or clothes. 😊
And I show them what I want then ask how much before they start. I’ll even pay before or in middle and tip accordingly after it’s all done depending on the vibes too
A few years ago I contracted warts on my feet from getting a pedicure. It took me over a year to get rid of them. Since then, I just stick to either painting my own toes and press-ons. I've heard horror stories of people getting HIV from nail salons. Your health is not worth the risk.
A lot of people in general. The same goes with men. People are so disgusting. Like what's so hard about washing your f◆◆king hands? Bathrooms are full of germs ffs! If I catch someone leaving without washing their hands you bet your 🫏 I'm going to say something 😂
Bro that’s so disgusting I didn’t use to wash my hands as a young child but i obvi grew out of it by the time I was like 7 at most So gross that ppl don’t wash their hands it’s not that hard
The girl with reasonable prices also finishes the sets in a reasonable time. If you roughly calculate her prices and time spent, she's making about 60 bucks per hour. That's amazing.
That is a privilege. Not a solution. Any day now you or your daughter could lose the ability to use your hands the way you do now. Happened to me at 25. Can't even grip a brush some days. Dissbiled people shouldn't have to either suffer w nail issues or risk infection. Not a solution.

As a nail tech, I freaking love this video! Y’all, do your research and ask questions. There are techs and chop shops that know you will not speak up for yourself and they will take advantage of that. Here are some questions before you sit in the chair that you can ask: 1. What does your sanitation process look like? (For implements: Wash with soap and water, soak for 10 mins in disinfectant solution, rinse, dry and store in a covered area. For pedi chair: scrub with soap and water, rinse, and spray bowl with disinfectant solution, let sit for 10 mins. All non metal/ single use items should be disposed of.) This is what is taught in school and is the bare minimum that should be done. 2. Can I see your price list? ( everyone should have a base price at which their services start at) 3. Can I see your nail tech license? (The license really should be displayed near or on their station). This helps if you already know the techs name because each tech has their own license.
YES!! I’m an esthetician/nail tech and I always make sure my customers are aware of the pricing, have a dirty implement and clean implement box, wear gloves, spray down every surface with disinfectant, get clients to sanitize AND spray their nails down with alchohol, change my disinfectant solution often and have my esthetics diploma, and all my barbicide/preempt certifications hanging where clients can see them
I stopped getting my nails done when the cosmetologist drilled right though my real nail making a hole and then proceeding to tell me its ok with the glue in her hand ready to apply it to my finger nail she just injured. I spoke up, made a scene and walked the fk out. I choose health over vanity every day. I'm all set. Nobody's putting me through that shi!t!!
It’s mildly infuriating that these people allow services to be done to them and are unhappy. If someone caused me to “gush blood” my a$$ would be out of there!!!
Nurses aren’t allowed to wear fake nails, gel polish, or regular polish. They’re supposed to be clean and filed short. Whenever I’m not employed, I paint my nails and wear gel nails. Otherwise, my nails are just kept clean. 😭
Back in the early 2000's, you could get a full acrylic set for $20 and a mani pedi for $40! It was only $10 extra for all of the cute designs and bling. I stopped going after I caught a foot fungus from them and had to see a podiatrist just to get rid of it. That doctor told me that 80% of his patients were clients who contracted foot fungus from nail salons! I hate to say it, but a lot of Asian "nail techs" have NOT actually gone to nail technician school at all. A "nail technician license" can be bought for a few hundred dollars, stuck in a frame, and slapped on the wall. This is why they have absolutely NO sense of proper salon sanitation whatsoever. But they became so popular because true licensed nail techs were charging more money. Now their prices are absurd, their salons were not up to code then and are not up to code now. As a retired cosetologist, every person who has gone to cosmetology/ nail / barber school knows there are certain protocol to follow when a client starts bleeding. Be very aware of these places!
There is a state board you should be searching any beauty place on before visiting. Dr Mike has a video 'the girl with 2million dollars in medical debt from a beauty place" 1. If they inject you or perform a procedure greater than a face wash or pedi a doctor needs to be on staff bc these places will open up, with licenses, and close in a year when too many ppl go to the hospital. A doctor has a lot too loose and it gives legitimacy. Next you want them to be open for 5 years or more. Anything less than 3 is, sadly, a red or pink flag- that's just the world we live in In my hometown we have two spas with no licenses who opened a year ago. I have written to the state who has obviously not done anything bc they still exist. The state boards over beauty is a joke in most states and won't protect you- you need to protect yourself bc researching their licenses and complaints.
You get what you pay for by going to places like that that charge very minimal. Many clients just want what’s cheap but cheap isn’t always good. Most of the time it isn’t. Techs that know their worth of their time and education usually charge more. Most don’t however as they feel intimidated by nearby techs also lowering their prices to attract clients. The clients really rule the cost of nail sets. Imo it shouldn’t be that way because many techs are only breaking even by trying to keep up with lower prices. Not saying you deserve the fungus you got.
I'm from Russia, and our nail techs are famously talented and meticulous. I pay 1 800 rubles (20$) for manicure + gel nail polish + nail art on 2 nails, if I want design on every nail its extra 500 rubles (5.5$). Chrome or mat finish doesn't count as design, as well as different colours of polish, since it doesn't take a lot of time. My nail tech takes great care of cuticle and natural nails, the only downside is : it takes more time. But I am able to grow my naturally thin and brittle nails to a decent length. I also did long fake nails with difficult nail art and lots of charms, my total was 2 600 rubles (29$) + 800 tip (9$). Its totally not common to give tips to a nail tech, hair stylist or beauty technician, I had to convince her to take the tip because the nail art took so much time and effort. The cost of living is much smaller in Russia, so that 20$ is not a fair projection of a price for a US citizen.
Yea you are one of my best manicure and pedi was by an older Russian Women who worked in a black hair salon. She was the best and very clean. I haven’t one like for more than 20 years. I know I’m aging myself but welp 😆
Please, in Russia it's the same. There are good nail salons, there are bad ones, most of them are the latter kind. You find your nail girl and you stick with her. Better if you do your nails yourself if you wanna be sure hygiene is preserved. Don't spread misinformation.
Best thing is to learn how to do gel manicure for yourself. Watch videos, buy similar products and practice. I haven’t been to a nail salon since before covid. II taught myself during the pandemic shutdown. I do fill in, chrome, mirror metallic, glitter fades, ombré, you name it and it looks 100% professional.
@@se2664I do the same thing as the original commenter and have been also since before covid. I’ve learned a lot from the young nails channel, nail career education and Vee nailed it. I think Vees channel is all one word but I’m not positive.
About the first video, “why didn’t she leave” i think it was pretty obvious that she wanted to see the whole thing, whether for her video or some other reason
The hygene and health concerns are everywhere the same, but I swear, nail salons and hair salons are SO expensive in the US that I can't imagine how people manage to get them done in the regular basis
I prefer to do my own nails. I will just use regular nail polish, and people always think that I got them done professionally. One time I wanted to get a manicure for my birthday. The lady I went to not only did a poor job on my nail, but she also cut me with the nail file. I was bleeding, and she was acting like it was no big deal. I paid for my nails, and never went to a nail salon again.
I also get compliments on my nails that I did myself with regular polish. Have been considering getting them done professionally, but I'm nervous because I'm afraid I'll get someone rough like that. I think I'm just going to stick with what I've been doing at home for years, though. Sorry you had to deal with that bs for your birthday. Hope the rest of the day was better.
Im not really a girly girl, but I am a dancer. I had to get my nails done for a performance and after getting used to them, I actually really enjoyed them. I cannot justify the constant cost of upkeep. Like really. If some of these girls saved for retirement the way they spend for nails, they could be millionaires by the time they retire. And thats not even a stretch.
I was thinking about getting a set of simple acrylics to get rid of my nail biting habit, but I do not have the time, patience or money to go to the nail salon once a month for a fill. Maybe I'll just teach myself how to do acrylics at some point 🫥
Yea they’re so expensive. And I used to go every 2-3 weeks. I’ve gotten into press ons and they are soooo much cheaper and I can make them last like 3 weeks
@@claraf.6833There's a great product I tried for that, it's actually made to prevent dogs from chewing on stitches after surgery, "Bitter Apple", safe and nontoxic and it'll definitely remind you not to bite your nails, tastes horrid! 😂👍
4:09 I graduated nursing school in 2007 back then we were not allowed to have our natural nails longer than 1/4 in from the edge and acrylics were out of the question…. This was instilled to us during schooling. Any nurse out there that works directly with patients, especially people with low or weak immunity like the elderly and babies, should NOT have acrylics/gel nails that are long. It is so ridiculous and negligent for someone that should know better to be making these mistakes. 3 babies are dead because these nurses cared more about their style than the lives they were entrusted with.
Licensed nail technician here, @ 6:25 if used on a person, yes they are single use and must be disposed. But if used to clean implements they can be soaked in barbacide. They must be thrown out every couple weeks and shouldn’t be frayed or exposed to open air like these are.
I have a nail tech diploma that I use to only do my own nails now, but I have a few months of experience working in several salons in Belarus (post-soviet). Let me tell you, nail courses train you to do it flawlessly. Cuticle prep, application, filing schemes - everything has to be on point. If a nail comes out crookeed due to your mistake, client is entitled to not pay anything and you say sorry as a failed tech. The most insane longest and craziest nails would cost 60 dollars, when a simple everyday medium length is 10-30 depending on what you want. When you learn here, you have to ingest medical information about the nail, condition on the nails and fingers, pass the exam to your supervisors and the teacher to be SURE that you won't harm anyone. When I moved to Europe I was shocked that prices here are twice as high. But USA prices is something else... You can pay a 100+ for the most basic chrome nails without even a cuticle prep??? And adequate nail work is called Russian manicure (which techniques are learned by every nail tech in post-soviet) in USA??? How in the world is it allowed for people to do unprofessional harmfull things to other people, charge them crazy amounts and be absolutely fine legally?
Wow!....@12:00 she has got to speak up for herself....I don't yell or curse at anyone....but if something is wrong the nail tech is going to listen because I am going to pull my hand away.....and then explain what the problem is....and I am very firm...whatever the problem is!......someone....is going ...to.... FIX.... IT!
It's so crazy because when I worked at nursing homes, almost everyone had their nails done. I always thought it was unhygienic and a risk for their skin since older skin is thinner, it's easier to rip. I had plenty of times seeing scratch marks on residents from the workers.
some nursing homes really do not care about their residents. My mom works in nursing homes and i’ve heard some stories. I would be very careful before sending your parents or any elders in your family to one. Plus some of the caretakers are straight up cruel to the residents.
@@halien6384that's why my will states assisted s. Most adult homes are full of abuse and a sad life staring at a wall for a decade or two. If I'm not mentally here then what is the point ....
@@cynthiahernandez6314 none of the elders in my family are in a place like that but you dont know what you are talking about. IF for example your elder is disabled physically and or mentally then it becomes taxing, painful, not just for you but for THEM. Oftentimes you can be NOT educated enough and end up being a risk. Like being a caretaker is a FULL TIME JOB, one that recquires knowledge, skills or even time you may not have. Especially if they suffer from alzheimers or such conditions. Especially if you have your OWN family to work and care for. Chalking everybody that ends up getting help from external sources as "dumping" a loved one is foolish at best and cruel to say at worst! Its a tricky and complex situation.
Ex nurse here. In Australia, you are not allowed fake nails or even nail polish due to them being a hygiene issue. Some nurse get away with natural looking nails but have to get them removed as soon as it's noticed they're fake.
It’s kinda crazy that they’ll still try to get away w nails knowing it could potentially harm a patient tbh. Hella glad all the hospitals around me have amazing nurses who genuinely care
@@katkay9923 the nurses on my ward didn't give two shits and scowled at me when I complimented her on her nails. They weren't longer than her finger and were painted "naturally" but anybody who looked at them for more than a second would've realised they were acrylics. If she was comfortable wearing them at work, I was comfortable complimenting her on them because they did look nice. I could've been a prick and lectured her. Older nurses don't respect younger nurses in a lot of places and this ward was no exception so I felt unsafe speaking out.
I always bring my own polish for pedicures and I only go to salons who put a plastic liner in the tub which they take out after each customer and only use instruments that come out of a sealed bag that indicates they have been sterilized in an autoclave.
Sometime I file my press on and put on fresh coat for polish, that helps to keep them last long. And my nails are so sensitive it helps them from breaking.
I have no idea, my brain struggles to comprehend 6” nails but like I said I only give myself like 1 millimetres of length because, without giving too much medical stuff away, I really like my skin it’s my favourite organ.
Exactly. If you get cut at all, leave immediately. They should have thrown away anything that isn't sanitizable, like paper files, the glue that was put on her cut finger, disinfected the sink, table, and anything she bled on. Smh.
Never had nails put on always done DIY nails they are the best and these days the fake press ons are gorgeous! Colorado,70 bux and up. The upkeep would be costly and I couldnt just expect all of the upkeep for free. Also, plz spill your skincare secrets! You have some of the most beautiful glowing skin that I have ever seen!!!
I’m so glad that this video has been made because somebody had to speak up about the nail community and the dark secrets that have been harvest among the sanitisation of having long fake nails
Sanitation: This is one of the first things you learn in cosmetology school. Please report these places if you encounter this crap. I know a lot of them find ways to circumvent state board and the health department but report them anyway.
I went to a lovely salon in Grand Prairie Texas. The salon was so clean. Each regular client had a personal file box with their own sanitized cleaned and inspected tools in it plus all their usual needs covered. For the occasional client, you paid for the set of tools they used to be sanitized in the proper manner and used general ones which were cleaned and sanitized, sealed and packaged. Really nice.
The nail salons started with cheap, prices and hooked us all and now people think the must have them. Every nail salon I’ve been in is packed with people waiting yet these same people are saying … food is expensive. Girl….get your priorities straight.
My mum is an at home nail tech and she’s never had any issues, even when she was a beginner, it’s genuinely shocking to see all these poor customers getting hurt and overcharged for such simple designs, the mistreatment of customers and equipment used to do nails is genuinely sad 😢
I use see-through press on nails and put whatever drugstore nail polish I want on it (no UV nail polish) BUT cure them with a UV top coat: Girl got some super shiny beautiful nails for around 1 $ Set (caus I buy my press on in250 pc set). I use nail glue to put them on and remove them just with babyoil a and a brush i stole from my make up kit. just works fine!
I remember before I started to do my nails myself, they never charged extra for the length. Only for designed and bling. I decided last month to treat myself and go to a salon and I asked for French tip. I knew French tip had an extra cost above the base since it was mentioned in their pricing but no where did it say anything for the length. I was shocked to see the length having an extra cost since it was never mentioned before. Had I known I wouldn’t have went there because my nails came out to over $100. On top of that, it took the nail tech over 3 hours. I had gotten seared at 12pm and I was out after 3pm. And I was with my husband and he was getting very anxious since it was taking so long and we had things to do. His mom is a nail tech herself and it doesn’t remotely take her as long for what I got. For the run down: 12pm I’m seated and nail prep is started and the extensions are put on and cut and shaped. Note: I did not have a set on. My nails were bare as can be. 1:30pm is when she finally starts doing the acrylic. 2:30 she starts doing the French tip. 3:15 top coat and not long after I’m paying. This is when she tells me the extra length cost and I end up paying $100 before the tip. When I asked after I payed why it took so long, expecting to hear that maybe she was newer at it, I was told it was how long they normally take. I did not ask about the extra length charge since I haven’t been to that salon and maybe it’s something they have always done, but I did politely suggest that maybe they make a sizing chart with the pricing so people are aware. Or at least mention it before I get anything done. The nails came out fabulous and I was really happy with them, and the lady was really kind, I’m only shocked at the extra costs and how long it takes for a basic French tip: now if she is new I can understand, but in my whole life prior to me doing my own nails, I have never have French tip of any length take that long. Even with a floral design. That’s what shocked me.
With any length of nail you should be scrubbing underneath to make sure there is no dirt or bacteria there. Also, wash your hands when arriving home, to work, before eating at a restaurant.. basically anytime after you've touched things outside. I always carry disinfecting wipes with me to clean my hands and nails after grocery shopping, taking public transport, blowing my nose, etc. Also, I disinfect my cell phone every time I come home with paper towel and disinfectant. Phones harbour so much bacteria. Same with cash, always wash your hands after touching cash.
Press-on nails have changed my life. I put them on when I'm going out and pop them off to do regular tasks. I also do my own pedicures, which has significantly improved my nail health.
Hello! Genuine question (as a younger person who mainly wears press-ons), do your nails get damaged when you pop the press-ons off? The glue always messes mine up really bad lol
@@Starborncathedral I use the Impress press-on nails. They have a sticker-like adhesive that peels right off without causing damage. I usually dehydrate my nails and lightly scratch the surface to make them last until I'm ready to remove them. 💗
@@Starborncathedral Hello..I always use press ons. I use the Cala nails and I use the glue they provide. They cost about $7-8. They last about 2 weeks depending on how lazy I'm being.,😂 I used to use the Impress, which I still like, but I like the Cala colors more. They have a variety of lengths as well. 💙
@@Starborncathedraltry changing the amount you use, or take them off a different way. I used to just pull them off but now I scrap them and it’s less damaging than before , most of the glue comes off with the nail, then I file it down.
At the nail salon i used to go to, whenever I got a male tech, i bled. Didn't matter if it was a different guy than last time, didn't matter if i was getting acrylic nails or regular polish, didn't matter if i was getting a mani or pedi, etc. They always cut me and made me bleed. I finally started asking for only female techs and my experiences did a 180. One girl, specifically, was amazing and i requested her everytime. She left that place four years ago and i haven't been back since. And for those wondering, no i never confronted the male techs or told the manager (who was one of the male techs) about the bleeding and pain. I just sucked it up and suffered through it unfortunately.
As an XXL nail girly. You HAVE to do the extra ish. I carry mini brushes to get under my nails when i wash my hands. Sanitizer, disinfectant wipes and lotion. Its a must if your going to get ANY nails put on you. Its extra maintenance to stay CLEAN. Its not that hard.
10:47 I'm not even joking. I passed out in a nail salon from them taking my nails on like this. Stabbed into my nail bed with the acrylic tip she was using to remove my fake nails. Traumatized.
I had open abdominal surgery with a incision that required 50 stitches and would rather go through that again then have them remove my nails by prying them off 😂😂😂
I have been to SOOOO many salons that fucked up my nails and left me regretting spending the crazy amount of money they charge...I finally just got all the stuff I need, learned how to do acrylic, gel polish, poly gels, etc. And will NEVER pay for that shit again. I'm getting pretty good at it actually. A few friends have exchanged favors or traded for me to do their nails. It's actually a nice way to get my creative energy out and have some time to myself, so it's a win win. I love always having nice, pampered hands for basically free!
See, this is precisely why I do my nails at home now. I've been doing my own nails for years at home. It saves me so much money. I have all the nail charms and the stickers and the different colors and chrome and so many different color polishes that I could ever want in my life. I love it. Plus, for me, it's really relaxing to sit there and do my nails, take my time, and learn different techniques. While saving money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had false nails in high school until I started working in food service. Now I am a chemist and dont feel comfortable with the chance my fails poke through gloves and they will just melt with organic solvents. It is crazy how much things cost now, but its worth it to have someone do it right. Also those little acrylic figures are super cute. There is nothing wrong with a little self promotion.
In the early 90s I was introduced to silk wrapped nails. To this day the best nails I’ve ever had. Never pop off, super realistic, long wearing just wonderful. I moved away and nobody offers these, I was heartbroken. When I took them off my natural nails were perfect and healthy.

That nurse would need to be in jail for their own protection. What a stupid, selfish way to kill someone
The number of times I've had a nail tech remove my nails with tips 😭😭😭

Some people try get away with it with short natural looking nails but if management sees or another nurse isn't scared of being bullied out of their job for reporting it, the nails or polish had to come off
@@Cyntaria haha, Canberra. I saw some nurses with stupid long nails. I don’t know how they could do anything
It’s not your vanity. It’s beauty standards aimed at women. Men don’t do this, or feel like they have to do this. There is a difference.
Low key a hotline for anxious girlies to call to have someone else be confrontational when they feel like they can’t themselves would be fire
.......im more for people learning how to advocate for themselves.........
My family has that! We call them sisters. 😌 We can be confrontational on each other's behalf but rarely for ourselves. There's 5 of is btw.
I don’t understand this. I have no problem being confrontational but if anything I need to get tips on how to be less confrontational 😂
This isn't anxiety it's people pleasing. They aren't saying anything "to keep the peace"
I also work at a dermatologist and some people just don´t want to learn
I have severe allergies to acrylic nails. I will loose my whole nail. The scabs take months to heal. The pain is terrible.
I have dermatitis and I just wanna say thank you for trying to help people with the same thing I have :D

That's actually so sad how you think a phone call is anxious.... it's a phone call. You ask a question and that's it.
4:03 wtf isn’t it illegal to have nails in those fields? I’m from Germany and here ur not even allowed nail polish in those fields (by law)
Laws for sanitation and food are surprisingly lax in America, compared to most European countries. Most laws are in place only to protect profit, sanitation and safety are secondary priorities. :/
Artificial nails are not permitted for medical staff
The case she is taking about is what made those nails illegal in the medical field
@@bplovelove3119its about nails.. i doubt you'll even see a man, especially at a at home nail salon.

Yes girl same 😊😊❤🎉💅🏾
Same. It is NEVER relaxing lol
... Getting your nails done nowadays is so outrageously expensive, so now I just do them myself at home and wear SPF on my hands when I go under the UV light.
The UV light isn’t strong enough to damage your skin anyway.
I've been doing the same thing since the 2020 circumstances and I will say, if you haven't been, PLEASE get clear false nails to put on your fingers before you do gel. Gel on natural nails can create a skin allergy and can also ruin your nail matrix
Edit: also not a dermatologist nor a cosmetologist, this is just something I have learned from doing my own nails because I have very sensitive skin and almost really messed myself up
Fr they all saw the people who paint those really cool sets (that take days so they’re supposed expensive) and thought their work is worth that too
does the spf help? i always forget wear one
you can also wear gloves!
I am a 47 year-old woman when they started charging $125 set then I just started doing my own! Come on now girls we’ve been doing this stuff for years you’ve got this!!!! I love learning new things to do with my nails!!!
👊🏾
That part.
Same. I do my own at home cause I know my products are clean.
In NYC they have to all have a license and it must be posted or it's a violation!
@@aquaillusiongirl as I said, 1 person is licensed and the employees are not.

As a nail tech, I freaking love this video! Y’all, do your research and ask questions. There are techs and chop shops that know you will not speak up for yourself and they will take advantage of that.
Here are some questions before you sit in the chair that you can ask:
( everyone should have a base price at which their services start at)

Dr Mike has a video 'the girl with 2million dollars in medical debt from a beauty place"
Anything less than 3 is, sadly, a red or pink flag- that's just the world we live in
In my hometown we have two spas with no licenses who opened a year ago. I have written to the state who has obviously not done anything bc they still exist.
The state boards over beauty is a joke in most states and won't protect you- you need to protect yourself bc researching their licenses and complaints.
Yup! Why did someone argue with me when I said this was the price in 1999 🥴 I think some of yall really must have forgotten !!
They are also working as slaves for the owners ..
I just had to do a round of lamisil because I got a fungus from a pedicure. It’s so gross. Toenail is growing back.
17:49 Your clay art is So Cute! ❤
I'm so curious about the Russian technique, it's perfection! I want to visit Russia before I die, not just for nails.
Love from California 🇺🇸
@@EveRosell of course I agree we you on that. Unprofessional and uneducated nail techs are everywhere. I was just sharing my experiences.
What creators do you recommend? I want to only watch licensed nail techs make tutorials but most don’t
That's what I'm doing now. Charging 90$ for abuse. Miss me with that.
@@se2664I do the same thing as the original commenter and have been also since before covid. I’ve learned a lot from the young nails channel, nail career education and Vee nailed it. I think Vees channel is all one word but I’m not positive.
I second Young Nails
What do you use for acrylic overlays on tips?!?!
About the first video, “why didn’t she leave” i think it was pretty obvious that she wanted to see the whole thing, whether for her video or some other reason
I would've left so disgusting
That’s happened to me before but the bitch tried gaslighting me saying I’m not bleeding
I think so of the cutiest and most imaginative nails I've seen were done by the person.
Yeah I started doing my own. It sometimes looks like butt, but at least I did it and it was free
I'd say any type of nails are better to be done by yourself.
Then you know can be sure it is safe.
True. I was contemplating getting my nails done but in this economy, it seems a little insane.

It’s so gross. I think hospitals have just accepted that if people wear gloves, it mitigates the damage. But I bet it is nasty under those nails
They make nail stickers that mold around the nails. if you are in the medical/food field then use these if you REALLY wanted to change your nails.
Licensed nail technician here, @ 6:25 if used on a person, yes they are single use and must be disposed. But if used to clean implements they can be soaked in barbacide. They must be thrown out every couple weeks and shouldn’t be frayed or exposed to open air like these are.
Yeah
I wanted to say the same
These nail salons have BEEN out of control. What I am thankful for is, I learned how to do my own nails. I will always get what I want.
Да! Индустрия красоты в Америке вызвала у меня отвращение. Я обращаюсь к русским только за вещами
Unregulated capitalism + girls looking for bargains
@@traveliowa301Or how about everyone take care of your own elderly loved ones and stop dumping them on strangers to care for them and expect
As a nurse I cannot wrap my mind around having these types of nails or even the fancy shorter ones. Such a bad idea and unhygienic. 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
I learn to put on nail press on. And let me tell you they last more than 3 weeks! You have nails less than 10 bucks! Love it!
I just nail polish and call it a day! It can last a while and depending on the brand, it can cost only a dollar per bottle 🩷🩷🩷
These stories stressed me out
Just a friendly reminder you shouldn't leave your press ons on for more than 2 weeks. I am guilty of it and have gotten greenies before. Google it ❤
I change my press ons frequently. They probably have changed twice in the same week with me. Lol.
Sometime I file my press on and put on fresh coat for polish, that helps to keep them last long. And my nails are so sensitive it helps them from breaking.
Before i start the video, i already know im hopping into some weird stuff lmao. Nail salons are tweaking so bad nowadays 😭😭
lol yeah, that’s why I do my own
I give myself probably 1mm of length on my nails because I have a medical reason to have them 💀
@@VAVoices666what medical condition could possibly validate having long ahh nails

5:58 why .... why did this lady stay for this contaminated nail job.
Content or just morbid curiosity 😣
Exactly. If you get cut at all, leave immediately. They should have thrown away anything that isn't sanitizable, like paper files, the glue that was put on her cut finger, disinfected the sink, table, and anything she bled on. Smh.
Probably for video evidence to report the company

Yeah these idiots will ruin it for the good ones 😢
I use press on nails with uv gel and paint gel polish over them. It looks like it is professionally done. I am so happy I found this method!
Same! I’m about to do my first set of polygel though.
I mostly use nail polish on my natural nails.
For the run down:
12pm I’m seated and nail prep is started and the extensions are put on and cut and shaped.
I love Kiss nails and I have learned to apply them myself. The girls on UA-cam are excellent teachers 😊.
@@Starborncathedral I use the Impress press-on nails. They have a sticker-like adhesive that peels right off without causing damage. I usually dehydrate my nails and lightly scratch the surface to make them last until I'm ready to remove them. 💗
