I bought this book years ago read the first feww chapters and put it down; was distructed by other books etc. I will be reading it again! I cannot believe I did noy finish the book when all my life I've been doing up to 4 different martial arts, with 2 of those predominantl;y Japanese arts wherein every aspect of training is Zen! Thanks Pal wor re-kindling my curiosity to read it agaim and this time finish it! Cheers! :)

Wow, that is fantastic - I'm really happy to hear it Chris! Happy reading 🙂
Which martial arts? Back in college, I trained Aikido for several years and then most recently (a few years ago), I trained Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I miss the BJJ, definitely want to get back to it sometime when schedule allows for it.

Interesting idea for a video series. Looking forward to it. I have read Zen and the art of Motorcycle Maintenance and Zen and the art of Archery but not this one yet.

Thank you! I haven't read those books yet but if they are anything like this book, I'm sure they are great.

I had cut my finger and was unable to practice so looked for a book that would help me get better at guitar . Before reading I was trying to teach myself the busking classics that were boring me and were hard to learn like Wonder wall . After reading the book I started playing the open d stuff I’d learned and was improvising with it. I suddenly noticed that other guitarists were stopping and chatting and complementing my playing whilst playing on the street because I can’t make too much noise at home and I was enjoying my playing. Learning to play like others started to feel like a job, playing after reading the book kept my playing enjoyable like playing for fun. Thanks for sharing your thoughts it’s the first time I’ve typed it into UA-cam and I’m glad I did.

I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed the video! Apologies for only replying now - I'm returning to youtube after an extended absence. I will hopefully be posting more videos again soon (and continuing this series as well).
I'm so glad that you were able to find joy while playing - I really think that's the most important part of playing this wonderful instrument. Are you still playing on the street? If so, please consider posting some of your performances on youtube. I'll gladly take a look.

I'm just starting out playing guitar and very well seasoned guitarist in my area suggested that I read this book. I like the phrase "no words can teach us how to ride a bicycle". I can agree with that statement. I have to experience it for myself by practicing. I'm a little intrigued about the book now. 😀
