Buckin 👍 Top show have watched you use that simington grinder in previous shows very interesting Have used chain in the past in Australia 🇦🇺 simington chain grinder must be a Canadian and American grinder very impressive 👍 Thanks for sharing Johno Darwin NT
I had the same moment recently on my first coastal falling job. Bullbucker handed me his saw and my jaw hit the floor. About to grab my first Simington from Walkers really soon for my next shift in camp! Thanks Buckin'!
Mr Bucking Thank you. Iv been watching you for only a couple months as of now but your videos have helped me to understand and get better at hand filing
You have great skills with the camera. I’ve been playing with my silvey and getting a “feel” for it since we were going back and forth. The way you can zoom in on cutters helped a great deal, Thanks! I’d have been sort of lost without ya even though it’s a different machine the end product is what matters, and to quote someone I’ve heard before, “She Cuts Eh?”
I have been experimenting quite a bit over the last year with my princess auto Oregon style grinder... I have been saving chains that are good and cooked to play with. I'm not quite to where I want yet but I sure enjoy the process. I made a mount for the grinder so I can put it on a speaker stand and get it right up to eye level so I can really see what's going on. Thanks for showing your grinds, it will certainly help.
well congrats on the new mower. As you've already stated, the time savings alone vs pushing will make so much difference. Will allow you more time for the power saws, axes, or whatever.
Thank you very much sir for the information you shared with us, probably the only channel with so much free info and good advice. Thank you and God bless you.
I love Silvey and Simmington grinders....Ive nearly given up one of my big saws for one. Yeah I can hand file with a chisel bit but if u want square ground 'work' chains...a Simington is needed.
I get it but I don't use my chainsaws enough to get the grinder. That's not a criticism. I have many thousands invested in other sharpening gear for my woodshop. But the great thing about this video is that it teaches the subtleties of Sharpening. Lots of variables, lots of detail decisions and skills to master. But it's worth it. Sharpening is one of those skills where you never stop learning or refining your technique. Tiny adjustments can make a huge difference. Bevel angle, skew, hook, depth of cut, type of grinding stone etc. Timber is a demanding mistress.
Beauty grinder and mower! Congratulations on the new purchase. My pops has one of those things, and they rip!! Too steep here, all walk behind/string trimmer.
Hi,I can't see my top plate either, even with a mirror.Thank you for this information Looks like a killer grind. 1500 dollars is way out of my budget.I still can't get a raker gage to work after I bought one you shown us to use.* still use my 50 year gravely 4 wheel, hahaha.
Buckin, you will like the zero turn mowers. They are efficient tools. Make life easier. Just need to watch steeper banks. It is a nice tool. Take care.
Nice video. I have a few video on my channel talking about grinding. Once I got my 451c it totally changed my falling. A 5* degree side plate angle is good. The tooth heals back in the cut cuz the working corner of the tooth is higher then the raker so when the tooth is cutting wood the tooth heals back till the raker touches the wood. Making the 5* degree side plate almost 0. The lower your raker are the more the tooth heals back changing your angles. That’s why I run my chains pretty snug. I hope that all makes sense. Stay safe my friend!
iv been looking to get a new mower. and yeah they are like 5 to 7 grand. i have three acres at what point of buying a new mower and or paying someone to mow the lawn and saving 2 to 3 hours of riding the lawn mower, weed wacking, pulling out the push mower for under the pine trees and spots that the big mower cant get. but at what point will that break even. i generally mow the lawn like once a week. so probably 14 to 20 times a year.
Man I’d love one of those Simington’s. I have an Oregon 620-120 that seems to do ok. Still messing with the angles trying to figure out what works best. Any recommendations on grinding wheels?
The Bailey's video was good. I'm guessing that guy probably ground more than a few of my chains back when I used to take them to town (Laytonville) when it was $3 to sharpen them.
@@BuckinBillyRaySmith yes I have done square by hand for a long time. But I did buy the simington from USA. Have never done it by hand again. To mutch work doing it by hand.
Nice tutorial on the grinder!! We’re in the dank secret arts now lol, side beaks Down in the shellall and all And BANGING lil musical intro, like it a LOT plus That’s some hotrod mower-! Needs a flame paint job Oh and Yer 100% on edge geometry, trade offs, steel &c
I was grinding chain on the opposite side so opening the arm to my left hand, chain was WAY down in the last grind or two stage before you start rippin off cutter teeth.........I opens the arm to check out the grind and I'm up under the top plate, got the corner amd all the things right, well I reach over with my right hand to lift the backing arm that holds the tooth to turn it up to my work light...........damn grinder almost falls over, dust flying off the stone, and I'm thinkin what n hell is goin on, smell stone dust and burnt skin and again thinkin what n hell is goin on? Well my middle finger knuckle had hit the bottom corner of the stone when I reached across and laced my finger open like a scalpel about an 1" long, cut so clean it never did bleed but three drops! Barely missed the tendon and earnt 10 stitches in and inch of didget, needless to say that slowed my firewood cuttin up a touch. Same exact grinder our pal is usin in this here video, so from a big dummy not only chain is sharp after it touches a properly dressed stone haha!! If your just learnin on a grinder like this, take yer time fellas.......it's not a race and you'll appreciate it alot when you have that look buckin explained the first time yer grind cuts eh!
@@williamwallace9620 I believe Bailey's and Madsen's carry them, but they're built in Lakeview, Oregon and you may be able to search it that way as well
I’m a husky man as well , 6 saws, weed whacker, ride on, push mower, and of course the clothing! I don’t know of the zero turn, but I was sad to learn my ride on didn’t even fly over Sweden let alone be made there👀 Weed whacker, hardly husky quality. Ride on has been a good rig I will admit, but a fella ought look under the hood, ya aren’t alway getting Swede gear!! Not to say Chinese isn’t good, in fact there’s plenty of evidence to argue it’s better than a lot of western gear, just the same it was deflating
Not gonna lie I was a little disappointed on ya getting that mower at first but I guess we can't expect the wife and daughter to use their teeth like Buckin Lol jk good stuff and darn nice mower.
Is there a grinder that you would recommend that does a square grind that isn’t 1500$! Iv been looking at them lately and there are sooo many to choose from and it seems most have about 50-50 good vs bad reviews. I just figure as deep in sharpening and saws and your connections you might know of a grinder that works well for a homeowner for a reasonable price.
@@BuckinBillyRaySmith Yeah I ordered a half dozen double bevel flat files from Madsen’s and after a few times iv got that pretty good still have a lil trouble keeping it right in the corner but maybe I’ll just stick to the square files then. I cut a lot but just around my farm and I just can’t see spending that much for one like yours. Maybe find a good used one some day for a good price I can pick up!!
Side beak game on!!! You're mow time will cut in half, and I believe we all know how valuable time is.Thanks for sharing Buckin!!!
