I’m running into a problem. My Apple 4k 2021 connected to my Receiver TX-NR 696 connected to my Samsung 43 “ . Since the Apple TV 4K is hdmi 2.1 , i get msg says not support with your tv, please in to hdmi on back of tv
I watch Apple TV+, Netflix, Prime Video, etc. on my Apple TV 4K streaming box. The shows look better than when I watch them on the apps preinstalled in my Sony Bravia 65" Android TV. Another tip: turn off your TV's energy saver mode to really get the most of the 4K resolution.
Nice to see such a practical spin on an ATV video, Shane! Love the doorbell pop-up on the TV, as well! (Now that I have a circle view doorbell) The new ATV remote is a huge upgrade!
Coming from a 10-year-old Apple TV - I needed a new one - obviously... If I were to only need a new remote I figure the $60 price tag would be well worth it. How can a remote control be so great... 1- quickly open a new app with Siri 2 - new trackpad becomes intuitive very fast 3- having a mute button on it is well worth it - not having to dig up the television remote - Same applies for the volume and ability to start and shut down both with one power button. 4- the size is just right in the hand - the flat sides (ala iPhone 12) is gold 5- Rechargeable battery 6- Being able to easily use the controls (most used are the mute, volume & pause buttons) without requiring to pick the remote up is also nice (for me 50% of the time) Lots of smaller remotes are not so well designed in that way! After a few more days I end up using all of the buttons in that way & less so the trackpad part. For the Apple TV 4K 32GB- what I like best - in no order 1- Picture & picture 2- Faster 3- Just better overall 4- Able to lock in playback speed in YT (not able to do that on the old A tv - firestick did not permanently lock it in) One thing I will miss for ease of use (as on the Fire Stick remote) is to be able to simply with a 2 button press (1 long - 1 short) "save to watch later" a video while browsing on UA-cam. With Apple, it is way less easy (more miserable - 8 button press) to do.
Got my AppleTV 4k 2021. The Atmos sounds amazing from my Atmos soundbar and the hdmi 4k content is sharper than previous 4k model. But the ui and HomeKit sold it to me. Amazing upgrade 😃
Hi tell me mate, I’ve been in the military all my life, Why do you wear your cap the wrong way round is it a part of one’s uniform or are you trying to make a statement?
Thanks Shane. EXCELLENT post about the new AppleTv and the AppleTv in general. I've always loved it from day one. You are becoming the BEST source of Homekit/IOS digital content on UA-cam btw. I will send my Fam and friends to your channel when they have questions. Great work!
Man, I agree. The OS on the AppleTV is leaps and bounds better than the native smart OS installed on the TVs. Roku is nice and works well but I still favor the AppleTV OS.
Hi I have issue with dolby vision video on my hisense 55 4k tv.... problem is that dolby vision videeo coming with 8 bit video while it should be 10 bit on my tv as it is 10 bit panel.... google os is showing 10 bit video on same tv for dobly vision... kindly help...
I’m upgrading from the 4K because the new version supports atmos and better HDR and will work great with a full sonos wireless surround system. Sonos now supports adjusting the volume of the height channel in the sonos arc soundbar. This should be a great addition to a very sleek setup.
I have the previous gen AppleTV 4K with the remote that many ppl hate but I like it very much. Once you reduce the touch surface sensitivity to the most minimum then the remote is very usable. Mine is plugged into a 50” 4K HDR TV but I honestly can’t see the difference between 1080p, 4K, 4K HDR. I do notice 720p though.
I never understood the reason to get an apple TV until I saw this video, just ordered mine from apple. having all the streaming services together is what sold me. plus asking Siri to find a specific movie, I can't tell you how many times I wanted to watch a film and I had to go thru 5-6 services to find the ONE that had it. that alone makes this worth it!
Hey Shane, do you have a new gen console or a console at all? I love that I can now play my PlayStation 5 through my HomePods through eARC! Cool idea for a video!
That is a great feature, I agree! But no, I actually don't game at all on any consoles so I pretty much leave my tv input on the Apple TV all the time.
Does it work with no internet? In other words, wanna stream local movies or open the net to the actual providers but have apple IPs blocked. With Chromecast it needs to connect to google to be usable.
You have to have subscription services, whether it's Netflix, Amazon Video, Apple TV+, Hulu, etc. There are some apps that will give you access to free movies as well. Same with games... there are some free games. Also you can subscribe to Apple Arcade (or it could already be a part of your existing plan, depending what you have).
Will it convert or upscale all tv channels to 4k with hdr, or is it only some apps on the apple tv that can do that. lets said my channels are only on sd quality maybe 1080p can it upscale that to 4k with hdr, that will be nice to know
Bellow Shane. I’m in my 50s and just bought AppleTV 4K. I’m wondering how to get my AppleTV & HomePod Mini that are stereo paired to control my UA-camTV App with my voice. Not sure how to message so hopefully you can answer my question. I love your tech videos. Thanks
Hey Rodney, thanks for the support. You can command the HomePods to "open UA-cam on the Apple TV" but I don't think you can natively command the app to do anything else through the homepods.
I went for the 2017 AppleTV 4K instead - waiting for it arrive! Sure, it doesn't have Thread or the latest features, but the price difference was the decider for me! Can't wait to review it!
Brilliant video Shane, I really learnt a lot. My Apple TV is so old I can’t even remember what version it is. I’m definitely going to upgrade. It was brief, but did you mention that it’s possible to listen via AirPod pros or AirPod Max headphones? Keep up I the great content, I’ve picked up so many helpful tutorials on HomeKit and ideas (it’s costing me a small fortune!!) Best wishes from London UK
I don’t have anything on HomeKit, but the idea of a seamless connection between my iPhone and the TV sold it for me. My phone and the TV are the most used devices when I’m at home and relaxing, so it’s a no-brainer. Just ordered it today!
I don’t know what it is but we noticed right away the picture quality is way better than the tvs os (even after adjustments). Have a Sony Bravia 4K 2018 tv and the picture is sooo much better using Apple TV 4K
Thank you, Shane, for your comprehensive review. I’ve used Bluetooth on ATV every night for my Airpods for many years! Very important as it allows my parrots to go to sleep in peace! Sometimes during arvo siesta too as the Bird Specials Music List on the iPad has to keep them happy -no joke, as 1 parrot is v musical.
Hi Shane. Love from India. Just wanted to know what’s the difference between the app you get with Sony X90H and the Apple TV 4K ? Is it the same ? Or there is a lot of difference ?
The Apple TV app is essentially the same app, but the Apple TV hardware gives you a lot of other things. Here is a full video breakdown of all the differences: ua-cam.com/video/LRvfkGl3-HQ/v-deo.html
@@ShaneCreates so if I have the Apple TV app on my Sony X90H TV which supports Atmos and Vision that should do good right ? It has nothing to do with better quality picture or sound via Apple TV box yeah ?
I have a question, my tv is the Sony a90j, but I want the Apple TV because I don’t like to much the system of the “google tv” my question is every time I wanna watch series/movies I need to use my remote of my tv and then change the input or I just press the button and it gonna appears the Apple TV, I mean, something like happen with the ps5 I press the button and the ps5 turn on the tv and I just start to play some games..
If you enable HDMI CEC on the Apple TV and your TV, you don't need to use the TV remote. You can just use the Apple TV remote and when you turn it on it will automatically turn on your tv also.
Hey Shane; thanks for such an in-depth review. As you mentioned, the standard tv app system sucks. I just got the 2021 apple tv 4K and it's a blast! I haven't had one since the 2017 model. This system is seamless. Not only do I get all my platforms #Hulu #Netflix #Tubi #HboMax & #Disney, but I can now get #TheCW, which for some reason, #Samsung TVs don't offer. Go figure. I'm in the ecosystem, so this setup works for me. I've got both a #Vizio soundbar and a #Homepod, so I switch back and forth. One thing I've noticed is the sound using the #Appletv is way broader and fuller than the tv hookup alone.
Am building a home kit set up here in Thailand 🇹🇭, love your channel, Just found it and have been binge watching your videos 😂, Very difficult here - apple don’t have any support here for HomeKit - had to get the home pod mini from a 3rd party vendor, waiting for the Apple TV 4K to release here.. Thanks for the videos, pls keep sharing 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks for the kind words and support. Sorry to hear how difficult it is to gain homekit support in your area. I know that's a real struggle for certain parts of the world.
my apple tv 4k flickers my tv.. im using a high speed hdmi cable and updated the apple software & still flickers even while using youtube from apple tv.. any advice/suggestions? its really frustrating and feel like throwing remote @ tv
Really good videoShane! I wasn’t sure if is worthy to buy an Apple TV! Make me realise I will have a lots of functionality that I do not have with my old smart tv!
HELP... I have an Apple HD TV with the NEW 2021 Remote. I can not find a way to completely have the remote turn off my Samsung Series 7 TV. When I hit the power button it put the Apple TV box in sleep mode and then it acts like it is powering off the TV, but within 10 seconds the TV comes back on. Then I have to use the TV remote to turn it off. I am trying to just use the Apple Remote. Do you have any ideals.
I'm not sure if your issue is directly related to your specific tv, but it should work. It's odd that the tv seems to power off but then comes back on. But if you have HDMI-CEC enabled on both the Apple TV and your Samsung TV, this should work.
If you arent an apple shill like me, the best reason is it isnt slow and doesnt have ads that take up most of the screen. I hate roku, fire stick, or any other TV's os. Its awesome, I have 2 and dont have any other apple products. I hate the keyboard though. Its awful. Luckily you can use youre voice. Ive gotten both my apple tv 4ks from marketplace for $30, makes it really worth it if you know where to look.
Apple TV+, Hulu, and Disney+ are all streaming services. You will need a subscription to watch content from any of them, regardless of the streaming device.
Excellent video. I’m thinking about getting the 64 gb model. I too have an LG TV and do not like the OS. Can you tell me more how it works with the TV. Do you turn on the Apple TV first and it turns on the TV? Thanks. Jim
Thanks James! Yes, that's right. As long as HDMI-CEC is enabled, when you wake the Apple TV, it will automatically turn the TV on and visa versa when you sleep the Apple TV.
I have a roku and a google tv thing.. I got the new apple TV 4k so I could sit in the kitchen with a laptop and extend or mirror the desktop to the TV with no wires or setup up
Thank you Shane for this video. I am heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem… And the last Apple TV I had was from generations ago- (so no 4K) I do have a PS5. But honestly I use it to stream more than anything. Gaming is fun. But I go months without it. So I’m about to order Apple TV 4K- and sell the PS5 while it’s still hot. I know the new Apple TV doesn’t come with an HDMI… So what HDMI did you get? Just one from Apple? Or any specific you’d link? Great video!
Can u use it without a apple phone I have Android so will it be harder to set up I don't like mirroring phone to tv so if I have to set up the apple tv that way forget it
Say you bought a 4k movie on itunes but the same movie is available on one of your other subscriptions but only in 1080p, since they are all connected through the tv app would it prioritize the 4k version over the 1080p version? Or can you individually chose to play the better version? This is my biggest concern.
I believe it always prioritizes content purchased through iTunes. But either way, when you find a show or movie you want to watch, you can scroll down and see the different options available to you for playback. (see 11:29 on the video)
@@ShaneCreates Thank you, although I figured this out already as I made the impulse purchase yesterday without waiting for your response lol. Anyway thats not my biggest concern anymore I’m actually dealing with quite a bummer with the way it connects with wireless headphones. It connects to my jabra elite 75t bluetooth earbuds and sound comes through fine except it comes through a second before the picture on the screen. I’ve known for lip syncing issues to be with sound being delayed but not the other way around and I can’t seem to understand why it’s doing that. It comes out perfectly synced through my tv’s speakers so theres no issue with the way it’s transferring the picture through the hdmi. If you somehow know the answer/fix to this I honestly couldn’t tell you how much relief and happiness you will bring me besides that it’s way more than you think.
I agree with all your reasons and love my Apple TV... But, not mentioning in the video that Netflix doesn't work with the Apple TV App, when most people have Netflix, is a little disingenuous in my eyes.
Sorry you feel that way. I don’t have any type of agenda, just sharing my experience. and I didn’t think about mentioning that during the video. I did realize that afterwards it may be worth mentioning and added a note in the video description.
I have been following your channel for a few months and I am starting to transform my house using HomeKit. If you had to buy a new TV for your living room but you will use it with Apple TV, what would you notice?
Thanks for watching Sebastian. It just depends on what you are trying to spend as far the specs of the TV go. For example, 8k, 4k, OLED, QLED, etc? At a minimum, I'd be sure to get 4k HDR and go from there. Support for HomeKit and Airplay 2 would be a bonus, but not necessarily a dealbreaker since you will be using an Apple TV.
Thanks shane.....I have one apple TV 4K and several Roku ultras.....I’m going to get the new apple TV 4k when I need one next time....that being said...the Roku ultras did get an update with the apple TV app and Roku syncs across as well...so I have that on both. Tough purchase at double the price, Hardware on Apple is solid and you make good points about the services. Thread and homekit hub are the most compelling for me right now. Have a great Weekend 👋🏼
How do I know which size to buy as far as memory, we are going all apple we have a new laptop, iPhones EarPods and main TV in LR has a brand new Apple TV getting ready to put one at all the TVs (4 additional)but not sure why repeat and get bigger memory on all like we did on main.
Personally, I don't think you need the bigger memory unless you like to game on the Apple TV or download a ton of apps. I have multiple ATVs and I've always gotten the lower memory. Never had any issues.
upgraded to apple tv 4k from previous generation. Big difference in 4k. I know a lot of people do not see a difference but if you are someone who appreciates the specs and quality, you will see the difference as well.
Great vid Shane! Good points. I’ve been using the Apple TV 4K for a week now. I love it. The only one thing I miss is, with the old Siri remote, you can tap on the edges to go up / down / left / right.
Chromecast with google TV is the way to go. Only $50 (right now you can find it for $40) and it does most of what Apple TV does plus many things that Apple TV does not.
Got Apple TV 4K (last gen) as central HomeKit hub. Not impressed by HomeKit… “accessoire not responding” gets old quickly. Steaming circle view camera doesn’t work (HomeKit secure video only camera) and my Netgear arlo work perfectly with their own app, but have some delay in HomeKit. Looks nice but buggy as hell.
Apple TV+ is a streaming service. Apple TV app is the app. The Apple TV app can consolidate content from other apps, but those apps must already be installed on the device you are using.
Thank you! Outdoors I have a couple of EufyCam 2 pros, a Circle View Camera, a Circle View Doorbell Camera, and an old Circle 2 camera. I'll be discussing the Eufy Cameras that I have in this week's video (Sunday).
@@ShaneCreates awesome thank you for providing that info. Also thank you for taking time out of your day to respond back to your followers, even though you have over 56k followers. BTW your awesome videos provide tons of great info.
Turn on the tv when the Apple TV turns on? You may need to make sure HDMI-CEC is enabled on both your TV and on your Apple TV. It's sometimes called different things by different tv manufacturers. Maybe this will help: support.apple.com/en-us/HT205225#cec

@@ShaneCreates Thanks
If you arent an apple shill like me, the best reason is it isnt slow and doesnt have ads that take up most of the screen. I hate roku, fire stick, or any other TV's os. Its awesome, I have 2 and dont have any other apple products. I hate the keyboard though. Its awful. Luckily you can use youre voice. Ive gotten both my apple tv 4ks from marketplace for $30, makes it really worth it if you know where to look.
One question, do you still gotta pay the subscription on Hulu or Disney in the Apple TV plus.
Thanks
I have a roku and a google tv thing.. I got the new apple TV 4k so I could sit in the kitchen with a laptop and extend or mirror the desktop to the TV with no wires or setup up
Yes it is. So much so I bought 2 after replacing my 2015 Apple TV
Thank you Shane for this video. I am heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem… And the last Apple TV I had was from generations ago- (so no 4K)
I do have a PS5.
Thanks Adam! Here's the one I got (affiliate) geni.us/BelkinHDMI
It's the same one that is also available on the Apple site as well.
When do u need to control your sink with your phone?
Can you turn off Apple TV and watch direct tv?
you have a spare apple tv i can have? or discount?
hi, what is you watch band? I think to buy one for myself :)
I’m going to hold off until Prime Day and see if there’s going to be a sale. 🤞
Will it conflict with my 2020 Samsung Series 7 smart tv? It runs Samsung Tizen OS.
No it won't conflict. You would use one or the other... either your smart tv OS or the Apple TV OS.
Does it support UA-cam?
yes
This video is too lagit!
Always watching. Always learning. Very cool was the scene where you jump in the bed while Siri is dropin’ the shades! 😎
Thanks for watching!!
Ted Lasso would agree.
Can u use it without a apple phone I have Android so will it be harder to set up I don't like mirroring phone to tv so if I have to set up the apple tv that way forget it
You should be able to set it up without a phone using an Apple ID.
Any word on whether or not the new remote is compatible with Apple TV HD?
Yes, it is.
@@ShaneCreates thanks for answering me. I'll take tour recommendation!
Can a Logitech Circle Doorbell/Video automatically show who is at the door on TV connected to the Apple TV 4K when it is in standby?
The TV (and Apple TV) must be on to get the pop up.
Thanks for sharing Rod! Always great to get other opinions and perspectives. Thanks for watching and have a great weekend as well!
Hi! Any ways to connect my “old big” homepod to my tv (sony bravia XBR-75X90CH) without using an apple tv 4K box?
No, you have to use the Apple TV to connect HomePods to the TV as speakers.
Good job of explaining Apple TV 4k
Do I need to buy an hdmi cable separately? Or does it come in box?
No, it does not come with an HDMI cable.
Great vid Shane! Good points.
I’ve been using the Apple TV 4K for a week now. I love it.
The only one thing I miss is, with the old Siri remote, you can tap on the edges to go up / down / left / right.
Thanks for watching! You can click the up/down/left/right dots of the click wheel which pretty much does the same.
@@ShaneCreates Yup. Just extra effort! Lol
I've got to ask why are you pointing the ATV remote at the TV like a old fashion IR remote?
Chromecast with google TV is the way to go. Only $50 (right now you can find it for $40) and it does most of what Apple TV does plus many things that Apple TV does not.
Can you download the UA-cam tv app on it?
Love this review!
Thank you very much my dear friend, this is a beautiful product worth buying
Does it have a browser ? Can u download Firefox or even safari?
Nope, no browser as far as I know on the Apple TV
Apple just needs to scratch this device and make it into their all in one device. Console/streaming device. Bring gaming to a whole new level
As I understand it Apple TV may consolidate a lot of apps but Netflix is not one of them.
You should have mentioned that.
Thanks for pointing that out, I forgot to mention it. Netflix is indeed the only app that refuses to work with the Apple TV app.
Do you half to have internet or wifi for it to work ? I'm getting different answers from people.
Yes, it's a streaming device, so it must either be connected via ethernet or wifi to internet.
Thanks for a great video Shane…I got the remote only for now…will get the new one soon and give the other one to my son.
Thanks for watching!
Hi 😁 What stramning services can you open in atv+ app. I only see Disney + and not prime or Netflix (not same login as atv+)
Apple TV+ is a streaming service. Apple TV app is the app. The Apple TV app can consolidate content from other apps, but those apps must already be installed on the device you are using.
Hello, I really enjoy your videos and learn a good amount from them. Which cameras do you use outdoors which work with homekit? Thank you
Can you side load apps on these devices ? Thinking off getting one.
You can but it's not super easy and does require a Mac and an Apple developer account I believe.
Awesomely content, I’ve learned a lot on your channel. The one thing that I can’t seem to get to work is for my TV to turn on. Any clue as to why?
Turn on the tv when the Apple TV turns on? You may need to make sure HDMI-CEC is enabled on both your TV and on your Apple TV. It's sometimes called different things by different tv manufacturers. Maybe this will help: support.apple.com/en-us/HT205225#cec
That worked out thanks a lot!
Not one review has a bad thing to say about this Apple TV. have one on the way!
