X pipes work based off of Newton's 3rd law, every force has an equal opposite. In this case it manifests as pressure waves in the exhaust. When the high pressure exhaust encounters a larger opening, it expands. The expansion creates a pressure wave in the opposite direction that has a negative suction effect. An x-pipe blends the two banks of 3 cylinders together and creates more vacuum that pulls more exhaust gas out of the cylinders.
I came here just to get some perspective as I'm considering adding some mods to mine this summer. I currently have a 325xi, and I also just inherited a 330ci (r.i.p to my Uncle), so I'm just thinking about some options. But uhhhh, having also spent years in fashion retail, I couldn't help but notice your outfit. You look great! Lol Clearly you're a man with good taste.
Thanks for the video Bro👍 I have catless headers, main resonator and a supersprint axleback and its too quiet im gonna try a different setup. Youre right when I had the muffler delete plus headers the car felt slower but when I put a muffler back on the car felt significantly better in the low rpms
Glad you like the video broo 👍 Isn’t that crazy tho, the performance I got when I put on the x pipe and muffler was significant I clearly felt a difference! Maybe keep the super sprint Axle back and get rid of the Resonator and see if that wakes things up enough?
I put a dinan muffler and facory everything else on exhaust and the muffler made the exhaust a bit louder and a deeper tone but is still restricted and quiet sounding. Waiting on my x pipe/resonator delete mid pipes. Cant wait to put them on my 330ci
Wait until you hear it bro. Mid pipe delete and then an X pipe addition, plus the Dinan, ooof 🔥. Lmk if you feel a performance increase from the X pipe when its done. Ppl dont believe me but its actually noticeable
I’ve had so many exhaust systems on my e46 and right now I’m running a full UUC TSE3 system. It doesn’t have an x pipe and you can tell just by the sound. The exhaust sounds great but it doesn’t have that smooth blended tone. I also have a SuperSprint x pipe welded to an Eisenmann race exhaust and that thing sounds absolutely beautiful. Love your channel man.
Cut off both resonators and you just need one X Pipe just after the exhaust brace near the center of the car 👍👍 Any X Pipe with dual 2.25 inch exits will work brother!!
Honestly Turner makes great stuff for our platform. Just took a look at it now and it’s impressive! I like the idea of the electronic actuator. They even sell an axle back kit for a little cheaper that you can add an X pipe too and be golden. Very nice 👍
in my opinion you need to work more on the exhaust system and pipes because when you cold started the car it sounds super quiet even when you were driving it I suggest you add bmw m5 cs exhaust or mustang exhaust to make the car sound much more louder and better I hope you can understand and make that change thx
In US Cats on this car are only apart of the Headers. So yes, as long as you keep Headers stock, this will pass emissions and still give you a performance increase!
The Muffler Shop had the material they needed. Try to find one in town and get some advice from them. They will know whats best. You can tell them what you want and they will make it work if they’re a good shop 👍
The inlets and outlets should be closest to factory. I want to say either 2.25 or 2.5 all around. Yeah 14815 would work fine, the muffler shop should have no issue making it work with our set up 👍
Had a shop put it all together for me. X pipe is just after the exhaust center support. Wanted the Muffler in the back to be magnaflow 👍 Bought my own Tips cause I wanted a specific look
For me it was about $500 bucks but i live in an area that constantly gets charged high ass prices cause the demographic is retired wealthy people lol I think it could be done for a more affordable price
Dude, the exhaust music you're talking about is hard to come by. I got lucky and got a HighLine Tuning system from a wreck. I've listened to all the others, and this one is the best IMHO. Problem is, they not making any more at this point.
@@pythondon There's a few videos out there showcasing it. I may try doing one. I have a ZHP w/ an aFe stage2 intake. Sounds pretty good together inside the car, but would be interested to get an outsiders perspective.

This is the comment I was waiting for lol I knew someone smarter than me could explain it! Its crazy that you can literally feel the car breath better
thank you man, I have a cross muffler with catless headers and this explained a lot of good info to start getting into exhausts
Hell yeah brother glad I could help
Which headers
@jewie3171 stockies
Great info, sadly sold my e46 but maybe that saved it cause i was thinking about doing a straight pipe 🤣 Great video
Hahaha yeah brother you woulda liked the straight pipe for a month then been like 🧐🧐 Wait a sec?.. lol

Haha thank you thank you 🙇🏻♂️🙇🏻♂️🙇🏻♂️🐕Rip to your Uncle and good luck on the new 330! You’ll feel the power difference for sure 👍
@pythondon It's my pleasure & thank you!! Wish me luck, it's a manual! Lol Gotta get refreshed.
I was looking forward to hear the car sound but I was expecting it to sound much more louder you know what im saying

can you make a video pls on adding bmw m5 competition exhaust to your bmw e46 pls pass

@pythondon will do. Have pose with 3.15 diff and intake so all those things together should give me a few more ponies

Oooof the Supersprint Eisenmann combo with an X pipe. sounds fire 🔥 Thanks for the love bro! We gotta keep these E46s alive! lol
so cut off resonators and put an x pipe where they were? also which x pipe and muffler did you get? (part number wise)
Cut off both resonators and you just need one X Pipe just after the exhaust brace near the center of the car 👍👍 Any X Pipe with dual 2.25 inch exits will work brother!!
I know the turner exhaust system is over-looked for some reason, what are your thoughts on the 330i cat-back exhaust they offer for the E46
Honestly Turner makes great stuff for our platform. Just took a look at it now and it’s impressive! I like the idea of the electronic actuator. They even sell an axle back kit for a little cheaper that you can add an X pipe too and be golden. Very nice 👍
Does the system start from the headers? And is it stock exhaust pipes or did you increase the size?
Yes Stock Headers brother so after the headers then this system. 👍
in my opinion you need to work more on the exhaust system and pipes because when you cold started the car it sounds super quiet even when you were driving it I suggest you add bmw m5 cs exhaust or mustang exhaust to make the car sound much more louder and better I hope you can understand and make that change thx
Dude small UA-cam channels like this feel great. Amazing content. Truly a hidden gem!
Thank you bro!! This is what keeps me going 🙏🏼💪🏼💪🏼
If you take off the cats everywhere but the headers do you still pass admissions?
In US Cats on this car are only apart of the Headers. So yes, as long as you keep Headers stock, this will pass emissions and still give you a performance increase!
Last question how much pipe did you order
The Muffler Shop had the material they needed. Try to find one in town and get some advice from them. They will know whats best. You can tell them what you want and they will make it work if they’re a good shop 👍
Wait wait what x pipe are you using?
Just some generic one brother from online nothing fancy. Just made sure it had the same diameter dual pipes on each end. 2.25”
I want a boom pipe.. like a nascar.. also a unequal length headers so has that sweet rumble. Like a bmw sound mixed with subaru
hahaha that would be sick lol BMW mixed with Subie sounds lol Add some choo choo noises to it and it'd be golden
Can't front.. lol that subaru rumble mixed with the amazing sound that can or comes from the e46 exhaust... pure sexxxy!!
im actually debating on this with my e36 m3
Looking forward to you dropping that turbo🎉
We Ready breddeeh 🔥🔥
How many inches on the inlets and outlets of your muffler? Looking to get the same one
2.5 inlet 3 outlet 7 or 9 inches long. Dual Wall 👍👍
@@pythondon Can’t find one exactly like that, do you have the 14815?
Sorry bro i thought you were talking about the tips!
All good bro, appreciate your help regardless

I have just subscribed!
Did you make the exhaust yourself or did you make it yourself?
Had a shop put it all together for me. X pipe is just after the exhaust center support. Wanted the Muffler in the back to be magnaflow 👍 Bought my own Tips cause I wanted a specific look

Make a clip of yours bro and Post it lol I’ve never heard of it but im sure its sweet. Im selling my kit now as im going full turbo set up 💪🏼💪🏼

Do you have dyno sheets for each claim?
Butt dyno brother haha 😂 Real Dyno sheet will come when im finished with my Turbo build not this 👍👍
Where did you buy your x-pipe and muffler
You can google X Pipes and Magnaflow mufflers. I got these online bro. Dual 2.25 inch pipes for x pipe
ETA ON TURBOOOOOO 🤧 🤧🤧
Hhmmmm multiple x pipes along exhaust after the cat?? I wonder??
Just one bro no need for Multiple! Lol
