Imagine being a young girl and being told being beautiful is everything, and she can't read or write and her mother says she knows enough, how incredibly sad
She said her child knows enough for RIGHT NOW. She's not depriving the girl of education entirely, just at a different pace from the other kids. And that happens every day, everywhere.🤷🏻♀️🎭
@@Katyloveheart It's not just that. The girls that do want to expand their knowledge is often berated until they're shunned. There was a girl from BFGW that wanted to go to college, while her mother supported her, the rest of the community didn't
Honestly, reading is a basic skill in my eyes, especially if you live in a country where learning to read is free of cost in schools/libraries. These is almost child neglect in my eyes, not allowing your child to learn to read and/or write!
If you are familiar with travellers/gypsies in the UK., the girls look like slappers from childhood. They paste thick makeup and older fashions and huge hairdos onto the very young girls and if you've seen the women... argh. It's not beauty, it's this grotesque look they're into, very chavvish, just trash level stuff. They marry the kids to each other at 16 too ... and it's decided by the parents really. It's backward, misogynist and I am sick of the whining that they're oppressed when they are their own worst enemies, rejecting education and even basic literacy, pushing kids to marry as soon as its legal (child marriage is connected to poverty) and having a large cohort of males that support themselves through horrible criminal enterprise. Gypsy sites in the UK have been the scene of many modern slavery cases too - they predate on special needs men and often alcoholic eastern Europeans and lock them onsite and make them work in gangs doing their shit driveway work etc.
@@kria9119exactly! its never JUST reading. reading opens the door to so many different things, many people don't understand just how much goes into reading comprehension and what it can do for you in so many situations other than reading a book. people genuinely do not understand just how important reading is to the human experience.
Anyone else find this all terribly sad for these kids. Their lack of education, hence opportunities, is heartbreaking. The focus for the girls to look nice but not even able to read ..how can that be all you want for your childrens future??
The girls just repeat: "This is what we do.." - it's unfortunate. The good thing though is that as time goes on more families have been leaning towards the progressive side of things and allowing their daughters to attend high school, finish high school, and work before getting married.... Sounds horrible, but it's better than not knowing how to read at all.
The children in the American orthodox Jewish community do not go past 8th grade. After that, boys exclusively study the Torah. Girls cleaning and cooking for the family.
No, this is how kids should grow up. Explore, learn nature, understand live, see the world. When did we decide it was good for kids to sit still for 6 hours and get a psychiatric diagnose when you can't or don't want to? I see very smart happy kids 🥰
@@kria9119 All the cultures, the languages you can learn, the relief you get when you can disconnect and imagine yourself in a new world. It's heartbreaking that they will never be able to experience that
I agree. I am sad that there isn't more education but they seem to be more respectful than most people their age...kids in the USA this age are kinda bratty and they don't respect people that they are around.
@@DawnShipley1977It’s even worse in the US, because of how the culture has changed in combination with the horrifying food americans eat consistently (which damages your brain’s ability to make proper decisions). I was shocked yet pleasantly surprised that these boys had a great role model.
I just don't understand why they don't want more for their children. Even if the adults can't read or write, they can surely find someone to teach the children.
STFU ur sooo ignorant the EXACT REASON A DOCO LIKE THIS IS NEEDED TRY LISTENING U SHAMELESS NON-“pikey” pffft ur the only filth round here and im a gorger shame on u😂😂😂❤
I feel like having a close nit community that the children are being raised in is doing far more for these children than what today's society is doing for other children. I personally would teach my children to read and write but I'd prefer to have a whole community than be a parent on my own with a tablet in my kids face.
The art that the old wooden trailers show is breathtaking and I hope the girl will forever hold on to her memories about her granddad and speak about it! 🫶
The show first came out in 2019.. I'm sure not much has changed. I would love a Big Fat Gypsy Wedding (From the early 2000s) where are they now episode though!
These little girls are going to end up getting married at a really young age and have to depend fully on their husbands. Most of them have nothing to fall back on if the marriage doesn’t work out. The parents should GIVE them a better education! At least teach them to read and write.
I can't fathom not being able to read or write. I got to go to Japan and South Korea, and I at least learned the Hiragana and Hangul "alphabets". Even just to see a restaurant sign and know where I was. How else would these travelers know where they are? I'm very curious. Edit: Now that I think about it, the kid in one clip had an IPad.
That's the truth ain't it? I've seen some other videos of tasteless girls in cheap ho makeup. So... Its different. For me I was raised that men don't cry,men are protectors and providers. I was taught to serve my husband, with almost no education. I was the only graduate of my family. My father couldn't read or write, momma was a drop out artist. My kids would never. Ever. This is their culture of belief. I respect it from far away... They believe in this sh!t. Let them. We don't have to raise our kids like that. ✋🏻
5 days a week inside, 6 hours a day of sitting still and getting a psychiatric diagnose and mind altering drugs if they don't, all being taught the same no matter the individual's interest. Is that human education? 🙏🏼
So they think all the women are good for is cooking, cleaning and making babies and taking care of their husband. For example, if I was in their culture, then I'd never want to get married like that's so not my thing if I was one of them.
I’m really glad the granny was there to teach about the old and really hard days. I believe that grandparents are so so important to teaching children about their culture and history!
Bless her heart. She said they can read and she can’t. That’s so sad. 😢😢. I know they can do other things. But they should be able to read and write. They’ll need it to get though life.
Agreed! Especially with the little girls. 9 out of 10 times they marry when they’re really young and have to fully depend on their husbands. They have nothing to fall back on if the marriage doesn’t work out, and I would imagine that would be 10x harder to deal with when you can’t even read or write. :/
There is a reason why they don't let the girls study, a well read girl won't want to marry at 16 and be fully dependent on her husband, so they get them out of school before they can get their own personalities and dreams
These children are just lovely. They are so well spoken and have a good grasp of their history and culture. Imagine what they could accomplish with a little more encouragement in education.
Crime that mom has lied to her kid and told her the reason that she doesn't have friends is because the other girls are jealous that she has 'nicer' clothes. Of course, that's probably what she was told as well...
In the area of germany I live in there are a lot of roma people. Many many of them don't care about their children's education, especially for the girls. The children go to school because it is the law, but they are not encouraged to learn. My sister is a teacher and it always breaks her heart seeing intelligent young children being confronted with their parent's opinion that education is unnecessary. When they are a little older, they just sit there waiting for the schoolday to end, doing nothing. They often get pregnant quite young and then the circle starts again.
I couldn’t imagine walking around in my own country of birth and not being able to read or write the language. Reading anything from a sign to a recipe… reading is a necessity
obviously it hasn't been a necessity in their culture however those two young girls were not only reading but writing too. If they're using their ipads they will be constantly reading and typing away.
@@tanstoptips1376In their culture cleaning is paramount. Being able to read the instructions on cleaning products is pretty darn important for your health. So is reading texts regarding doctors appointments, dentists appointments, etc.
I cant help but admire their resilience and how proud they are to be who they are. Though the cant read or write and the girls are suppressed i still think the way they stick to who they are and dont feel ashamed is so admirable
It was lovely to see the two girls caring for that beautiful gravesite. I don't agree with a lot of the travellers beliefs and practices but have great respect for the importance they put on family and community
Also, even the most capable, committed, loyal and loving of men can have an accident, need care, die. You need to be able to do it yourself. Especially if you decide to put children into this world.
I honestly think some of the Gypsies values are good. Not all of them, but seeing all those children playing happily together outside and not sat behind computers was heartwarming. They are like we all used to be in the 70’s!!
Rachel is an amazing little girl! I hope she can do what SHE wants to do with her life while holding on to her culture. All the kids...so innocent...I hope their lives are good.😢
I lived on campsites outside Paris & Amsterdam in the 90s. There were gypsies there, and since we lived there, we got to know them a bit. They were family oriented, friendly, but did keep to themselves more. They loaned us tools when we needed. They seemed responsible and didn't cause any trouble. I feel weird calling them travelers though because we called each other travelers. People who didn't just travel on holiday. People who lived traveling as a lifestyle. Getting odd jobs here and there and/or busking to stay in the same place for weeks or months at a time. It's similar to a Gypsy lifestyle, I guess, but different. Same same but different :))
My husband was born in a 2 birth caravan/trailer and lived in it with both his parents and 3 older siblings until he was almost 7 yrs old when his parents had finally saved enough to buy a house. My M.I.L used to wash their clothes and dishes in the stream. They then went on to buy a row of 3 cottages and made them into 1 very large 9 bedroom dwelling with 5 acres of land. ❤
2bh the Irish gypsies are the worst (based on personal experience). The gypsies I knew were lovely, paid site fees, paid taxes, respectful, went to school. Fond memories of staying at my friends caravan during school holidays❤
@@feralhomunculus it's a different type of gypsies now. Most of them are on the rob + in + out of prison. Been robbed by a bunch of Irish gypsies myself!!
@@elizabethbath5080 that’s truly beautiful that they worked hard and sacrificed so much and were able to accomplish that in the end. A home where the family can stay together sounds lovely. We don’t really put much value into collectivism today not in the US at least. I admire the societies that have worked to maintain that sort of togetherness.
These are just fabulous kids. They have a thirst for knowledge that they don’t even know they have. Given the chance to read they would make the world a better place. Also, they are so polite and caring for each other. We could learn something from these kids. Uncle Tony is a great young man teaching these young boys and working with them.
@@coolrelax82 It is a societal problem, I agree. But it's not one that's likely to change anytime soon, and education is a way to protect yourself from it. I have worked with illiterate adults for a large portion of my professional life, and the way they are being treated at doctors' offices, when dealing with the authorities, trying to get help in emergency situations etc. is nothing short of heartbreaking. Not to mention that many are taken advantage of by their spouses who can easily disguise what they do with the mutual finances, pension etc. As soon as people learn to read and write properly and do basic math, they are better able to fend for themselves. And once they get some sort of degree, life gets much better for them, measurable in money, health, life expectancy and reported happiness. Should it be that way? Probably not, but that's not the question. It just is.
I miss my family in cranleigh and Guilford, I lived there from 2000 to 2002 and having to come back to Canada as a young person back than, they thought I was American, but I'm Canadian, I got called so many names because I looked different and I wasn't in school while the other children were. I gotta say kids are cruel to all who appear different, I feel for these hard working people and they were the only ones who were nice to me, thank you for being kind unlike the brits who yelled out leave you yank. I'm not one I'm a Canadian and we grew up travelling the country and lived all over. England was beautiful but the travellers were the kindest people to me as a orphaned child and helped me know that I was equal and teach me to stand up for myself, and I'm so still so greatful for all of their kindness towards me, I was the one who couldn't find many who I could relate to, and they even brought me lunch and invite me to fire nights. I will never forget their love and kindness and teaching me to stand up for myself and keep my head held high. Thank you for being you and true, I will never forget the time I had as a child, even though I was the outsider who couldn't fit in anywhere. I thank you to the community for being a part of my life, if you remember me please message me. I want to thank all the cousins for being there when no one was able to be there, it was hard to leave, and am forever grateful, thank you aunty's, mums, and grandmums for your kindness. In the early 00s in hmp low newton i used to read a woman called maggie(a traveler fr liverpool) letters to her. She was a very intelligent & interesting lady regardless to her lack of formal education she was clever & knew alot about about alot, she taught me a few things bless her.
How beautiful is the little girl suzanna ❤ her parents must be so proud of her . Very well spoken and just a beautiful soul ❤ 26:43 that man is 💯 correct. Children now are on computers 24/7 and it’s great to watch this and see kids being kids . Total respect for gypsy community.
23:54 they’ve been following these families for a long time. Rachel was christened as a baby. Now she’s 9 here. Pretty cool to get to see another community, learn about their culture, and watch them grow and change, as they become older and have to take on more responsibility. I’m from the US and have always been very intrigued by the gypsy culture and people.
I've seen Uncle Tony in other episodes and, that man has a heart of gold. It's no wonder his nephews love him and it's heartwarming to see him teach them with such emotional intelligence and gentleness
I have always been curious about the economics of these people. Were the money come from? Who in the family controls the finances? The housing whilst living in a caravan. The apparent high maintenance of the girls and women. A fascinating society.
I imagine it's a lot cheaper to live in a caravan than pay rent or a mortgage on a house, so their income would go further and allow them to buy designer bags etc.
Years ago information was passed parent to child and communities supported one another. Today education is important for this modern world but that’s all it’s rich in. Kids join gangs to feel they belong kids have lost social skills and don’t see the beauty in the world around them as too busy on phones and tec. Ppl don’t come together to support one another! So really who’s to say who has the richer more fulfilling life it’s only measured by what we ourselves class as important. No life that is walked is perfect but it’s what’s right for you. We should all learn from each other ❤
This is so sad that so much emphasis is put on looks and not education. This is tragic. Is this allowed in UK??? What a shame. These girls Are so much more than what you see.
I have lived around some of these people. My main gripe is their almost total unawareness of feelings of animals. Horses worked to death, beaten and starved. Puppies and kittens too young to leave the mother, taken and used to incite pity in begging. Children injected with caustic agents to cause terrible lesions and sores for adults to point to while they ask for money to pay a dr. (Kid never gets near a dr in reality) A very hard situation to encounter. I feel sorrow and pity mostly, if I am being honest. A lot of innocence suffers for their stated Gypsy freedom.
Exactly!!! Keeping your kids out on a busy road or outside of the mall ALL DAY LONG, no matter the weather to beg. If they were all hard working construction workers I would feel differently…. But the ones I know do not work!
@@Astral_Clover Not all of them beg, most in the uk work for a living, well the travellers anyway, I think the Roma find it tough to get work, they face discrimination just for being a gypsy/traveller.

I wonder if their kids are still playing outside or if they are on their phones like so many kids are nowadays. An expert said "we've replaced a play-based childhood with a phone-based one."
That first boy Royston is so sweet. Obviously he's been raised with good morals, a busy mind and dedicated hobbys and that's the ultimate brain workout for any human. I like how his Dad is teaching him HOW to work rather than just making him do hard labour with no skills. You can see how carefully he was doing the work and how proud he was with himself for a job well done. His Dad standing back and allowing his son to do things under his watchful eye, shows his son that he has faith in his ability and trusts him, something a lot of parents should do. Be there for support but step back a bit more, you don't protect a child from the harsh realities of life by wrapping them in cotton wool and doing everything for them. You protect them better by empowering them and openly admiring their strengths. Good job Dad on the quality of work too. I'd be hesitant to hire a traveller to carry out pricey work like that, because so many of them have no skills. Sorry but that's not prejudice it's the truth. I had a Father and son do my garden last year, just cutting grass and tidying borders, no building work thank God, and to say it was shoddy is an understatement. I was then practically intimidated on my doorstep into paying a ridiculous sum even though I made it clear it was not good enough! Never again! But I'd hire this professional father in a heartbeat, as his work shows skill and attention to detail. It doesn't bother me if someone has no actual official qualifications, because many many people ARE just as skilled but learned through a parent how to do trade type work, like how my Dad taught me to decorate and use tools and my Mum taught me to cook and sew etc. I enjoyed hearing about this young man and his background. He's a lovely boy who's been raised right. But no doubt I'm about to be disappointed seeing the different way girls are treated....🙄 .................................... Watched a bit more and one thing I AM disappointed in, is how many NON traveller BRATS are bullying these children. My heart is aching for hearing their stories from school. The little girl with her designer bags "I bet you think I'm spoilt?" No sweetheart I don't think you're spoilt for having expensive items. Being spoilt is about DEMANDING and EXPECTING to be given everything you want. All I see is a pretty little girl, a bit lost since her parents split up, missing the friends from where she used to live, and being bullied by the new children she's trying to make friends with. Her Mum and Dad spending money on her is purely because they dote on her, as they should, and trying to boost her confidence about herself while kids from OUR families are trying to tear her down! Those two little boys talking to Tony whilst polishing his car.... OMFG I've got such a lump in my throat and on the verge of tears! Just LOOK at how forlorn, vulnerable, young and fragile those precious boys are, AGAIN from being bullied at school! WTF are their SCHOOLS playing at FFS? Too worried about their damn OFSTED score that they probably fob off rumours of bullying in their school. *"We take a very strong anti-bullying stance in our school which is why there's so few incidents of bullying here, which we are extremely proud off" blah blah fucking BLAHHHHH!* That's the kind of bullshit most schools come out with. No, the REASON they have little bullying is because they refuse to acknowledge incidents as "bullying". They either outright ignore bullying, or will attack the victim for the second time, by implying they instigated it. That it was a *"six of one, and half a dozen of the other"* type of incident. These children are just sweet young babies, and it makes no difference where they come from, race, country, lifestyle or colour, they should not have to go to school where every day they have to endure that. That's on ALL PARENTS to teach their kids not to be a bullying little bastard! 😠 I'm literally smiling with all of the children, but that lil chubby Alicia I think she's called...? She is adorable. They all are don't get me wrong, every single one has been impressive, mature, confident, wise, grounded and well behaved, all of their parents have done a great job of raising such lovely thoughtful children. But that gorgeous little cheeky chubby chops with her glasses on and unruly hair, has melted my heart the most. I absolutely love her. ❤
Not many believe that there is even ONE thing wrong with how the Roma look, women can be beautiful and men very handsome. That is not the problem people have in reality. It's more behaviors like dishonesty, theft, damaging property, treatment of other living things. I guess it's easy to believe everyone just hates you cause you are too, too beautiful and they are just jealous. But we ALL ultimately know that isn't true.
I've never had a Gypsy do anything to me, never seen one do anything to anyone else, so I am not going to say a bad word about them. And I try to treat everyone with respect and kindness.
I have traveller neighbours - they are very good neighbours, 10 yrs+ and the stabbing that happened wasn't the travellers, it was a family who think they're better than others.
Honi soit qui mal y pense! Do try and remember that the most prolific murderer in the UK was a white, british, state educated middle aged doctor! Your prejudices go before you.
When you call them thieves and dishonest without knowing them all ..that's why they think gorgers hate them. Bc y'all do without even caring about knowing a single one of them personally.
What is the age children are legally mandated to attend school? Is there an agency that checks in on these children to make sure they can read, write, and do basic arithmetic?
The whole of british society was like that a generation ago, most of the world still is. Don't knock it, the system works. We now have mothers raising a family, running a home and working full time to make ends meet, and we call that progress.
37:33 I'm so happy she gets to show her cultures with her schoolmates. Their parents did an amzing job allowing them to embrace each other cultures 👏🏾👏🏾
I used to judge these people and I still don’t agree with a lot of their practices…but I do appreciate how they treasure what they have and they take care of it. May they have the options in life…
Honestly, this is also what many families and society teaches in many countries. Botox and boobjob at 16, fake lashes and lip injections…of course they are teenagers then, but it’s just as bad to teach those values. That beeing beautiful is so important.
The girls and boys grow up so quickly, the boys working full jobs and the girls being taught how to be a "wife" and home keeper...no education and not wanting their kids to have good education or life skills...how sad. Those poor kids. And the fact young girls get taught to deal with everything like SA at a young age is so awful. They are CHILDREN it's awful. If a culture is harmful towards people then it isn't a good one
Showing all the cheap knock off brands like that makes them a better person is just sad. They should be taught values and manners . Not to value fake labels!
I´m from Hungary and we have a LOT of gypsies, and one thing that´s really interesting to me is, how the kids are so mature in ways. Like at 10 they´re already talking like whole adults.
@@Witam-f5n not everyone can resist bullying not us not ignore it as someone who has been with them in school i can say that it is true especially for females
Everyone has their own way. I have met some nice and some not so nice people from their community. I just think they need to work on their respect and the way they communicate with people. The main reason people dislike them is because they steal and leave places absolutely disgusting when they finally decide to abandon a site they have invaded
11:54 legitimate question for anyone who may know, why are the trailors still in use for a traveling lifestyle if some folks are settling with their trailers for 7 years, plus, and not actually moving on? They mentioned using the brick and mortar place for eating / living? Why not get a house? Is it a financial thing? A thing of pride? An intention to retain any piece of their culture they can?
So like.. looking at it from their cultures shoes... Can't they see that reading and writing would be beneficial even as a homemaker? Follow recipes for cooking, patterns if you make clothes, instructions on cleaning products or HOW to clean certain things, reading books to entertain small children not in school. It's to their benefit that they at LEAST read and write.... Not being able to is such a weird hill to die on.
Royston(?) is very bright and able, and remarkably articulate for his age. I admire how proud he is of his paving work. With a bit more academic education he could go further still.
it is so sad to see the money they spend on luxury bags and perfumes for their daughters but they put no money or effort into their education. the girl can't read and write at 11 years old. so so so sad.
I really don’t like judging people and i never normally would, but the all the experiences (although few) I’ve had with travellers have been overwhelmingly negative. When i worked as a bartender a group of middle aged traveller men and their wives refused to leave after closing (mind this was at like 1 in the morning and we all just wanted to go home) and we had to call the police and they got so aggressive. They just wanted to stay just to be aggravating, no other reason other than that.
This is a very weird documentary that obviously is trying to put a good spin on a people that we know in reality are not good for myriad reasons they aren’t good people in character they are lazy uneducated thieving lying scamming aggressive low class uncouth people and they’re PROUD of it idk anybody who embraces and lives such a negative stereotype of their culture but they def do
I am at a loss for words. I am poor in a small rural Oregon town and I have two toddler girls. I cannot imagine raising them to believe the beauty is everything. That they don't need to learn anything. All they need to know is how to cook and clean and take care of their men. What is sad, horrible existence to live in 2024. I couldn't imagine taking my children out of school at 11 years old and telling them to stay home and raise the kids I made😢 i pray for those girls. With that being said I will say that their kids are well-dressed and well cared for compared to poor USA kids. The parents here will take care of theirselves before they take care of their kids it seems like. I'm sorry but my girls will be pretty and hair done and me looking like crap before I will look nice in my kids look like crap js
I think the lack of education has to do with preservation of the culture. Their culture is so strong because it has not been altered much from it's origin. I see there are different types of gypies, but their central system of morals and values are strong. Don't get me wrong I believe in education. I would want everyone in the world to be able to go to school and develop, but I think it is about priority, cultural perspective of the educational system, and preservation. If you limit what is learned from a societal point of view, you can indoctrinate in a way. They seem to be happy and as long as they have their communities they can thrive in their own way. Not everyone has to be obsessed with a mainstream idea of success. We access education to grow as individuals, enlarge our perspectives, find talents and gifts, choose occupations, and for monetary gain. I suppose there are multiple ways to gain those same things. But, I do not know what I would do if I couldn't read. I love books too much to not be able to read of the adventure, ideologies, dreams, and curiosities that can be found within a book. As for being "beautiful" can be defined in so many ways. I hope they spend as much time shaping the personalities and "hearts" as they spend on the outside. I can gently relate with the obsession with looking nice. In my own community, Black Americans are the biggest population of consumers, yet have the least amount of wealth. I know a number of people who thrive on "beauty" even down to colorism, which I am learning colorism affects many population groups. Even in a Romanian Gypsy documentary, they spoke on how during the "dating season" it is important for women to look as pale as possible, less color the better. I say all this to say, there are so many demands on beauty that it is important to have "heart" or you will get lost. I also would hate for a woman's was based on her "beauty"... ironic right? Culture, is culture. What works for some might not work for another. As "we" as humanity continue to grow and Western influence continues to dominate a global expectation, it will be interesting to see if their communal expectations/requirements on education/ beauty/ marriage/ etc changes. Its impressive that they can trace their roots and continue to build branches.
The boys are taught how to provide and protect, and the girls are taught how to survive, rear a family and keep a house. It's very traditional, and except for the reading and writing bit, this isn't such a bad thing to teach kids. I do wish they'd keep them in school longer, and I know the culture is not always amazing, but in retrospect you have good and bad, and average in every culture. The kids look happy at least... idk.
What a lovely video, letting us know what it's like for the travelling children of today, all I can see, is name calling & ridicules never changes, god bless the Gypsies & Travelers ❤❤❤❤❤
The kids deserve a lot more. It makes me sad tht expensive things and thinking that a kid can say when they know enough. They don’t. There is so so much out there to learn and see. I started saving up for my son to be able to see the world or college when he is older. Everything is getting so expensive. I want him to work hard to get ahead. When I was a kid I drank from the hose, got dirty and etc. Rachel is talking about never coming out of the house not fixed up because it is shameful. How sad
Drinking the hose water was the best... I think kids should still play outside and climbs trees and stuff. It makes for nice memories and funny stories when you older
You want your kid to see the world once older. That's what these kids are doing right now. I wish people would stop judging these travelers. There are MANY ways to live, just bc theirs is different from yours doesn't give you the right to judge.
@@coolrelax82 I have to say everyone has the right to their opinion. I agree in same ways with you. I thought that was good advice about having my kid is everything when he is older and of course everyone is different. I watch an episode with a girl who was 17 but she said that she won’t be like what is expected of them. She works, won’t get married so young, has a diploma and is going to college. She also stated that us looking in might be thinking oh well this is exactly what they want. No it isn’t in many cases the girls because yes they are young don’t want that at all. So it isn’t judgement is wanting more for them. Who knows we maybe looking at a television show tht isn’t the real way gypsies live. So now and days who knows what is real but one thing is when they look sad and have no choice I want more for them
It's so sad that these girls aren't allowed to finish school, go to college and get a career, instead they are taught they have to get married, remain beautiful, clean house and have children and take care of them all by the time they are sixteen-eighteen years old.
The thing that gets me is when they complain in other episodes about not having anywhere to live permanently, not having school to go to…. Do they not realize their parents actively chose that situation for them?! No one to blame except their own parents. The world isn’t dealing you this hand, your family is. And also, if you want a stable place to live you’re going to have to pay for it and pay taxes like the rest of us. Saying you don’t bother anyone but then illegally staying on kids playgrounds and using sand boxes and playgrounds as toilets is not “keeping to yourself.” Its menacing.
Imagine being a young girl and being told being beautiful is everything, and she can't read or write and her mother says she knows enough, how incredibly sad
Most have to mow from day to day but still take there kids back to school they drive miles to do that
She said her child knows enough for RIGHT NOW. She's not depriving the girl of education entirely, just at a different pace from the other kids. And that happens every day, everywhere.🤷🏻♀️🎭
@@Harley_Qwynnway to try and find a way to defend lol
@@taliawesterfield1818 I thought the same! Pretty sad.
Wait until she realizes just like mom she’s basic. Average at best. Worse thing you can do is teach your kids they’re greater than they really are.
It's wild to me how differently the girls and boys are. Boys are getting solid advice, where the little girls are being told "reading isn't important"
I know ryt, it's sad imagine being in the world we live in without education it's such a disadvantage 😢
@@Katyloveheart It's not just that. The girls that do want to expand their knowledge is often berated until they're shunned. There was a girl from BFGW that wanted to go to college, while her mother supported her, the rest of the community didn't
@@HazyHuez OMG! That is heart breaking 😭 I can't believe this is happening in modern times
So that they will depend on those boys one day and they won't have other options.
Because it's a misogynist, backward subculture.
Good looks will fade. Reading is a gift for life. It's so sad that they don't have the ability/gift of being able to read.

@@amaliasafaryan4256totally agree my friend❤
No, this is how kids should grow up. Explore, learn nature, understand live, see the world. When did we decide it was good for kids to sit still for 6 hours and get a psychiatric diagnose when you can't or don't want to? I see very smart happy kids 🥰
I can't imagine not being able to pick up a book and read.
Being a long time bookworm I can't begin to imagine not being able to read!

Tony seems like a good role model for the boys. All the kids are well mannered respectful kids they’ve been brought up well

I thought the same, those kids obviously adore him ❤
I just don't understand why they don't want more for their children. Even if the adults can't read or write, they can surely find someone to teach the children.
Because they are super stupid, room temperature IQ type people
They don’t have any interest in broadening their children’s horizons. Educated young women wouldn’t choose a life of servitude.

I feel like having a close nit community that the children are being raised in is doing far more for these children than what today's society is doing for other children. I personally would teach my children to read and write but I'd prefer to have a whole community than be a parent on my own with a tablet in my kids face.
Tony is an amazing role model despite his bad start. Now he owns multiple legit businesses + supports all his kids financially (now divorced) x

Its only an issue cause most people are not used to it, the only thing i agree with is ur point on education
This is their culture though and their happy with it
That’s the whole point idiot 😂
I can’t comprehend depriving a child of being able to simple read and write. It’s basic human education. So sad.
@@KizhyKatlet them finish high school before getting married
There is a reason why they don't let the girls study, a well read girl won't want to marry at 16 and be fully dependent on her husband, so they get them out of school before they can get their own personalities and dreams
These children are just lovely. They are so well spoken and have a good grasp of their history and culture. Imagine what they could accomplish with a little more encouragement in education.
Lmao!
until puberty then the parenting goes toe up, like the Amish! both are mostly closed cults.
Crime that mom has lied to her kid and told her the reason that she doesn't have friends is because the other girls are jealous that she has 'nicer' clothes. Of course, that's probably what she was told as well...
Seen "uncle" tony on a few gypsy shows now, he seems like a really great guy
Reading medicine bottles is pretty important.
Uncle Tony is solid. Giving the boys good advice !
We need to start teaching all females there is no such thing as prince charming! Earn your own money. Education is power.
“i think a gypsy’s just about being a kind person” 🥺
Yeah no lol

Being illiterate is a sure fire way to guarantee you get taken advantage of and stomped down in life. Literacy is freedom.
This!!! So true.
Nah. You should be kind regardless of a person's education level. That's being decent.
@@coolrelax82 In an ideal world, that would be the case. In the real world, illiterate people are taken advantage of and stomped down. Unfortunately.
@jeanne_guitton sounds like a societal problem, not an education problem.
It just is.

Benefits
I imagine it's a lot cheaper to live in a caravan than pay rent or a mortgage on a house, so their income would go further and allow them to buy designer bags etc.
Benefits and being paid under the table.
Here in the USA they pave and seal. And rip people off. It’s called Flim flam
Mainly construction work and car/animal dealing,
Years ago information was passed parent to child and communities supported one another.
These girls

What I admire most about these children is their love and loyalty to their families and pride in their heritage.
Not against their culture but everyone needs to read and write and finish high school
Literally 😭 that’s the only thing I don’t agree with in their culture and how it can sometimes be sexist towards women and girls.
Amish! these cultures are absurdly similar!

But no doubt I'm about to be disappointed seeing the different way girls are treated....🙄
....................................
*"We take a very strong anti-bullying stance in our school which is why there's so few incidents of bullying here, which we are extremely proud off" blah blah fucking BLAHHHHH!*
That's the kind of bullshit most schools come out with. 😠
I'm literally smiling with all of the children, but that lil chubby Alicia I think she's called...? She is adorable. They all are don't get me wrong, every single one has been impressive, mature, confident, wise, grounded and well behaved, all of their parents have done a great job of raising such lovely thoughtful children. But that gorgeous little cheeky chubby chops with her glasses on and unruly hair, has melted my heart the most. I absolutely love her. ❤
This is probably the longest comment I've seen on UA-cam 😅
Oh my! Young Rachel, I remember her being christened at Appleby fair on BFGW several years ago.
this is down right abuse/neglect. How is this normal? The child's mother of the girl is a narcissist and is living vicariously through her
Not many believe that there is even ONE thing wrong with how the Roma look, women can be beautiful and men very handsome.

Horrible that these children are so bullied at school. They are children, and don't deserve to be taunted. No wonder they don't stay.
Ha naśmiewają ? Kłamstwo wymówka raczej ich mają to we krwi oni nie zmienia się tylko ukrywają to cwani aby otrzymywać.....
That's been my experience I'm afraid x
11:54 legitimate question for anyone who may know, why are the trailors still in use for a traveling lifestyle if some folks are settling with their trailers for 7 years, plus, and not actually moving on? They mentioned using the brick and mortar place for eating / living? Why not get a house? Is it a financial thing? A thing of pride? An intention to retain any piece of their culture they can?
The little girl in the pink gown is like a little old soul 👵🏽
What fabulous children, bright, switched on, polite, responsible and full of life.
What lovely children . That little girl really misses her precious grandad. Bless her. I wish they could have a good education though.
Lmaoo!
So like.. looking at it from their cultures shoes...
And here I was, thinking my english was quite well 😂
Greetings from rainy germany
Royston(?) is very bright and able, and remarkably articulate for his age. I admire how proud he is of his paving work. With a bit more academic education he could go further still.
He's now a famous Boxer
Selling off your daughters to climb your way up… knowing she will become a slave to him and his funny. It’s disgusting
This is their culture. It seems the kids love it and are proud. How about we just let them live instead of judging
it is so sad to see the money they spend on luxury bags and perfumes for their daughters but they put no money or effort into their education. the girl can't read and write at 11 years old. so so so sad.
Those bags are all fake
@@katespringsteen8220 wouldn't be surprised.
Similar to the Amish and Mennonite communities. Aside from the clothing choices.
This is a very weird documentary that obviously is trying to put a good spin on a people that we know in reality are not good for myriad reasons they aren’t good people in character they are lazy uneducated thieving lying scamming aggressive low class uncouth people and they’re PROUD of it idk anybody who embraces and lives such a negative stereotype of their culture but they def do
I don’t think Gypsys are as different as they think they are.
Exactly, they think they are so special when in reality they are just another ethnicity. Same as everyone else.
Does England not have mandatory school attendance requirements for certain ages?
Well of course we do, but travellers move around so authorities have no idea where they are
I'd like to see them create their own schools to teach reading, writing and math for their own good and benefit.
And their own cultural history, its music and dance
5:02 This is heartbreaking
Heartbreaking in 2024 in the uk that so many kids have such limited choices
This is a long time ago
Teaching ur kids that dressing pretty and wearing nice clothes etc are more important than reading and getting an education 😔.
It's a shame how materialistic they are. Not knowing how to read & write is a problem. Leaving school before the basics isn't ok.
Felt like i was watching underage aunties instead of children.
Its impressive that they can trace their roots and continue to build branches.
and yet, they are a mostly closed cult with all the negative implications of the word cult, like the Amish!
Susanna is so gentle, sweet & thoughtful.
Uncle Tony seems a good role model for the boys
Sure. The lack of education is sad. But these kids are happy. I think the gypsy culture is onto something with letting kids be kids.
The kids look happy at least... idk.
Looks like my childhood in NY living by my cousins ❤️ wish they would stress more education & learning a trade for both sexes 🙏🏼
4:04 that little girl doesn’t know that every single one of those “designer” bags hats purses are all KNOCK OFF, FAKE 😂
So?😒
What a lovely video, letting us know what it's like for the travelling children of today, all I can see, is name calling & ridicules never changes, god bless the Gypsies & Travelers ❤❤❤❤❤
It is not like this now it has changed somewhat it's not as bad as it was years ago
And your a fool
Im Catholic but I think its great the way they teach their children to work and manage for themselves for when their older
I wanted to add I wanted to like many of the comments because what was expressed is how I feel and agree
Boys learn to fight and girls make themselves pretty. Such important life skills!
@@irnaho7733 i remember tht. I absolutely miss those days
So now and days who knows what is real but one thing is when they look sad and have no choice I want more for them
“Im not spoiled” said the most spoiled brat on earth. Yuck.
I love how she said "they don't have what I have, but that's life" - yes it is 😀
They are very bright, confident and wonderful children :) I hurts my heart that they get bullied
Education is key. Not looking good nor marrying
It's so sad that these girls aren't allowed to finish school, go to college and get a career, instead they are taught they have to get married, remain beautiful, clean house and have children and take care of them all by the time they are sixteen-eighteen years old.
Just like the Amish
Similar to the Amish and Mennonite communities.
100% spot on❤
Ouch
