That is your brakeman. Your working a local job. 3 man crew but your conductor is M.I.A. or in the van at industry. Standard SOP. Your dynamic brake is using the locomotive brake to maintain speed so when you apply it, add more to maintain speed. The automatic brake is for the cars. Using the cars to slow and stop the train. When applying automatic, "bail off" your independent brake by pushing down on the lever. That will keep the brakes on the locomotive off while applying only the brakes on the cars. That with dynamic will keep your train at almost any speed going down hill. Also this method will help you SLOW AND STOP which you seem still to have trouble with. Well that's what I'm here for. I work for a CSX competitor and I do this daily. I watch your videos on what not to do and its a great laugh when work burns me out. Keep up the good work and keep the videos coming. Can't wait for the nect FRA mishap! LOL Lastly when u throw a switch it usually has 2 sides in a crossover. You ran through that first switch since you only lined one side for movement. Thank goodness you don't work for Union Pacific as you would have been pulled out of service by now but as this is a CSX scenario, your par for the course. They are horrible when it comes to safety LMAO (just a joke CSX railroaders)
The little black that you were so interested in for a few seconds is a really useful tool. Top number is your current speed in MPH, bottom number is the rate of change per minute. +15 on the bottom means you will gain 15 MPH over the next minute, -44 you will drop by 44 MPH in one minute. If you wanted to keep an even pace, this lower number should be as close to Zero as possible. You can also use this to time exactly when the loco will stop moving, you know, so your not stopping 7 Meters away all the time :P
That guy is actually Time and Motion bloke trying to figure out if you're needed. Btw, please turn off Motion Blur! Dynamic braking is the use of an electric traction motor as a generator when slowing a vehicle such as an electric or diesel-electric locomotive. It is termed "rheostatic" if the generated electrical power is dissipated as heat in brake grid resistors, and "regenerative" if the power is returned to the supply line. Dynamic braking reduces wear on friction-based braking components, and regeneration lowers net energy consumption. Dynamic braking may also be used on railcars with multiple units, light rail vehicles, electric trams, trolleybuses and electric and hybrid electric automobiles. (courtesy of Wikipedia)
Not completely wrong about the dynamic brake being the locomotive brake since only the locomotives have traction motors that can dynamic brake. But yeah instead of creating friction like air brakes dynamic brakes essentially reverse the flow of electricity to create rolling resistance instead of power. You want to use the dynamic to slow in smaller increments and train brake to slow in larger increments. If you want to be real professional you could use the dynamic to bunch up the wagons and then use the train brake to reduce knuckle stress. The reason why you need to wait 10 seconds between throttle and dynamic is because the change in polarity is not instantaneous. Its impossible to use the throttle and dynamic at the same time for obvious reasons. The automatic brake is the train brake that acts on every vehicle in a consist, both wagons and locomotives. The independent brake is the airbrake for only locomotives.
It may have been suggested, using your map will show a light blue indicator over the tracks. So, track "one" will be highlighted in blue, you then just throw the necessary switches and follow that highlighted track.
Holy crap! That yard is near were I live, it’s very strange to see something I see frequently in a video game being blamed by one of my favorite UA-camrs.
In the USA you’re not allowed to sound your horn just cause you feel like it. You need to do it generally when starting service or going through a grade (level) crossing.
@@colonelfailure nopes, just ipad hating me and I always forget to proofread before posting, but thanks for the concern and happy new year. And I'll edit the original comment
Has anyone said you sound like Ian Dury from the Blockheads? And you have your own Blockhead in Steggs. Your Mudrunner vids with Steggs are annoying but amusing. "Hit me with your rhythm stick".
0:49 was hilarious because i love how he said he's got his phone and he is probably gonna play some angry birds while on the train omg so funny 😂😂😂😂❤
bro colonel failure your so funny man
You're too kind.

Nice one Tim. Regardless of his function however he really shouldn't be playing Angry Birds while we're on a caper.
Colonel Failure agreed. Sim City build it would be a better way to pass the time lol
I was hoping to find a comment from an engineer about this. :)
❤

I just found your channel today. I haven't stopped laughing absolutely LMFAO. Thanks keep it up!
This is possibly the least entertaining Train Sim vid I've done. If you liked it, there are further laughs in your future.
Thanks!
@@colonelfailure It's 99.9% your commentary that has me absolutely dying laughing.
"Rip it..... cease ripping it." you need to make that a shirt.
i still cant stop laughing at the time where you said he's got his phone that he is go to play some angry birds
Oh boy. Really looking forward to you running a red and cussing up a storm and a half again!
Edit: a derailment and a massive crash is fine too
I won't lie I laughed quite a lot at the thought of the digital speedo's 😂
You have to admit that was quite funny.
Independent brakes are only for the locomotive. Service brakes are for the rest of the train.
The whole cake is for me. The vegetables are for the rest of the family
00:29:27 walks straight past the track switch repeatedly :P It was in the weeds

I'm really sorry, but I read all that in my head to the voice of "Mr You-Don't-Wanna-Do-It-Like-That" from Harry Enfield and Chums :-)
Don't feel so bad, notice at 8:44 that Mr. Supervisor is completely unaware of what is happening.
He's just staring out the window at a random bird.
Raison d'etre!!! I saw them once in concert. Great show. They were ON that night! The Warfield in San Francisco.
Very nice graphics and your sense of humor had my ribs aching in some sections 😂😅
You tickle the brakes with such professionalism Colonel, it's wonderful.
There were some touch and go moments there but in the end...nailed it! And TRAINS!!!!!
very exciting to watch thank you i realy enjoyed watching this awesome i have just subscribed to your channel

Amazing video best laugh I have had about tTSW.
ya colonel try useing the Dynamic Braking for down hill for that what it best used for and what it was invented for
Now that actually makes sense. Thanks.
I love your videos please please still make them thanks god bless you.
i certainly agree with the speed limit and target idea you have!
Supervisor is gone xD 9:10

Worked out the brake system of the loco yet? ;)
Thanks to you, I'm picking up British slang 😆
Stopping is so 1989.
Getting out and walking to the switches gets tiresome. Use the overhead map and switch from there. :-)
Now hes working for the trash (DTG)
Supervisor Dan at 8:20; "WTH?"
My god it actually worked? :O Well done!
Just a quick question. Are we using the bridge section as a tutorial for transport fever?!?
I have done this trash run so much
When using the dynamic you need to apply some throttle as well
Maybe Transport Fever twice a week?
use the map to swich the swich
You can change the track switch from the map view
But it is so much more fun to see Col. Failure run around and mess things up manually!
I agree.
when the hell do you get to run a 2 mile long coal train thru the mountains or something? Meh whatever, Highball it!
Colonel Failure through the Horseshoe Curve; what could go wrong?
Take out the papers and the trash . Drive into wagons and make a smash.
I think you either set or throw a switch, at least that is what some us streamers have lead me to believe
Have you been at the sherry again, Bjarne?

I believe in America we “throw the switch”
Nice.
I don't think you should take out the trash while wearing digital speedos...
But if you did in the Twilight hours, everyone on the block could gaze at the luminancent glory of your crotch.
I mute and speed to x2 ..that way I get the essence of the of the scenario with out all the distraction. :)
Your choice, naturally, but the distraction is why I'm here. Other channels may provide you a drier look at the route.
I love this video!
Wooo-hoo, and all that :)
wow, the graphics of this game looks amazing! put TSW to shame!
Erm...
O...K...
FLING, did that help?
Well, I feel better about life.

Well...I mean...you stopped!
Small victories.
