Caltrain Baby Bullet - San Francisco to San Jose | Train Sim World 2020

- Опубліковано 16 жов 2024
- Back in northern California for a trip in very hot weather between San Francisco and San Jose driving the Caltrain Baby Bullet MP3H-3C in Train Sim World 2020. If I can find the light switch for the cab that'd be helpful, but I'm sure everything will be just fine.
Bias notice: I work part time for Dovetail Games and while this is not a review of the Baby Bullet DLC, you should use a pinch of salt before trusting a single word I say. Including this disclaimer. Don't trust any of it. They're out to get you. Only by disbelieving everything will you stay safe. Remain calm. Remain indoors.
Caltrain’s modern, efficient and flashy “MPXpress” diesels have been operating on Baby Bullet services since 2003, and now you can experience them for yourself in Train Sim World!
If a diesel locomotive can, at once, be both stylish and rather brutish, the MPXpress fits the bill. Packing 3,600-horsepower and constructed to stringent crash worthiness standards, the MP36PH-3C stretches to 70-feet in length, stands 15-and-a-half feet tall, weighs in at more than 280,000 pounds - and yet manages a sleek, rather European-style visual panache.
Introduced in 2002, the MPXpress line of diesel locomotives largely became the standard-bearer for commuter motive power in North America. Caltrain ordered six MP36PH-3C variants for use on its new “Baby Bullet” express commuter services. Dressed in a red, white, and black livery and wearing road numbers 923-928, the Caltrain MP36PH-3Cs entered service in 2003 and have now worked for almost two decades on the Peninsula.
In Train Sim World, the MP36PH-3C makes its debut on the Peninsula Corridor, twinned with Bi-Level commuter equipment perfectly suited for express services through the Bay Area. Race southbound from the uniquely futuristic cab of the MP36, and be pushed on the return to San Francisco from the immersive Cab Car.

(*) - Today's secret: I genuinely hadn't expected the train to break in this scenario. I had, however, expected it to run for roughly 30 minutes.
Colonel: "Generator field: activated!"
Me: "Flux capacitor: on!"
Colonel: "Reverse polarity of the neutron flow!"
Oh, wrong time traveler...
Colonel, we tend to "tilt" or bank the rail beds more here in the US than having wagons that tilt. The east coast Acela is the exception.
Don't forget the Amtrak Cascades Talgo sets. But yes, all other tilting trains have either been disbabled (VIA's LRC coaches) or retired. What you saw was superelevation.
It's SF, not really an area of California where it's normally hot nor humid. 😉
As for the Baby Bullet name; that refers to the route and not the locomotive. The route only stops at a few of the stations between SF and SJ, thus making the 48 mile trip in only an hour! 🙄
Really? I did not know that. I assumed, wrongly, it was the train.
@@colonelfailure I'd blame the name of the DLC for the confusion, it's a bit misleading.
“The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.” Usually attributed (falsely) to Mark Twain
@@colonelfailure to be fair, we think 35 C is cold so
"Good morning!" He shouts, at twenty five to six in the evening.
Colonel, the dynamic brakes only work after the train's had a think about using them. They even started working briefly before you switched them off.
Wrong

HEP isn’t the main engine. It’s a separate engine that powers a generator that creates electricity for the passenger cars.
That's an option. HEP can either be ran off of an extra alternator that's run from the main engine, or it can be supplied by a separate engine and generator. But Caltrain's MP36's have it supplied by a separate engine. That's what the C in their full classification stands fer.
steammaster4449 That’s what’s in the video, so that’s why I explained it that way.
Well, let's see if we can create one. This was the best episode of Train Sim World I've seen so far. I'm dying, hopefully I don't keel over onto the throttle backwards.
That'll let a breeze in. Oh what a great video for a Friday.
I use to ride that line everyday to work, and get off at Bayshore station that you flew by. 😁
In Toronto, where I’m from, we have the MPH40-3C which is the big brother to the MPH36-3C. It’s similar in design but has 400HP more and can be converted to run full electric.
It would be great if TSW would make a map based off of GO... im not sure if a DLC map would be released in the future?
Colonel: sorry about the passing train.
Me: its fine.
Colonel: what’s it called Umm...
Me: ummm Dunno.
Colonel: Train.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
a song by The Prodigy, that gave me a lengthy giggle
H.E.P., Head End Power is just the lights and AC and all that for the passengers. The move-y bits are fine.
Yeah but the toilets just failed!
...and yet all the lights in the passenger cars are still on. (as seen around the 23min mark - before he attempts to reset it). The reset fails and the game says it has failed completely....and then when he runs through the passenger cars to get to the cab car you can see all the lights on as normal.
It would be nice if when something is meant to fail as part of a scenario...it actually, you know.....fails
I enjoyed this episode of Train Sim as I do live in the San Francisco Bay Area. The overpasses in the Bay Area should all be certified and retrofitted to be "earthquake safe". I do enjoy the channel, keep the dozer gassed up for emergency destruction.
I have to say that listening to your rambles is an entertaining way to spend some time, there are not much better ways but lots worse.
6:30 That’s something the risk analysis of the drivers controls didn’t even consider!
I think that it's great that loco class names trip so easily off the tongue.
always good to know who the driver is at the sharp end of your train if it's yours truly catch the next one, most of the passengers end up as basket cases if they stay on, on the assumption of "it will be alright". it never is.
I'm sure all those concrete bridges are totally safe, Colonel - built with the best anti-earthquake technology from the middle of the last century! (And barely maintained since) Nothing to worry about.
After all, it's only a few dozen miles from where that double deck highway collapsed in an earthquake about a quarter century ago. I don't know how visible it would be but I saw some proposals to wrap bridge columns with something to reduce the chances the concrete would crumble in an earthquake.
Great Video! I love your sense of humor. It makes watching the gameplay much more enjoyable!
Cheers so much, I just could not shut that car cab down at the end until watching this 😀
Thank god you still had the bell on I thought I had tinnitus! Awesome video
"I'm a big fan of unnecessary attention to details" LOL
OH MY GOD ....the Colonel ACTUALLY ran a passenger route WITHOUT doing a S.P.A.D. having a boiler explosion of running off the rails .... IT IS THE END TIMES!
Lmao I would totally ride if you were driving.
Colonel: sorry guys trains broken, that's why the lights are off
Me: ok
Colonel: oh, and if you hear grinding noises, ignore it.
Me: umm... Ok
Colonel: so just sit back and relax and hope we don't explode.
Everyone: PANIC!!!
Odd design with a spacious, streamlined modern cabin at one end and a tiny cupboard at the other.
Saves the cost of having an engine at each end I suppose.
A Gold Medal
Careful now you’ll lose that Amateur Status your so proud of.

You should try out the Frankfurt U-Bahn system on Train Simulator 2020, you can play with quite a few buttons over there, most importantly the buttons on the machine that sets up the train destination signs and station announcements. Not sure if it would make for compelling video, but you might find it amusing.
Gosh... I had to keep backing the video up a tad so I could get all of those numbers into my diary. But I got them! ;) I've noted that the train broke and that it wasn't your fault... just in case someone wants to know in several years... you never know. I think the broken part was the shutting down things... 'cause they took so much effort to shut down.
You are correct; there is only one engine and if it failed as completely as this scenario says it did, you wouldn't be able to take the train back to SF.
No, there is a second engine that generates power for the passengers. That's what the second radiator section and exhaust pipe is about.
"oy passangers trains broken, that's why you lot are sititing in the dark, I'm going to fiddle with power buttons, if you hear noises, thats because trains broken, sit back relax and hope we don't explode in a deadly fire ball"
me: oh so thats why it got so dark
I was gonna install this.. but its like half a TB lmao. I'll just sit on the Colonels train. Don't worry... I bought a ticket this time.
Considering the relative positions of San Francisco and San Jose that flat area next to the tracks is probably San Francisco Bay or a salt marsh bordering it.
If I had more freedom with route selection beyond just California....I would pick up this loco and consist because it's the same setup as my local Go Transit in Southern Ontario. The day they come out with GO Transit, they have a purchase.
Nice trains !
👏 NHS ! 👏
Still waiting for Pacific Surfliners.
Brilliant, had us in fits of giggles all the way!
train's broken steggs
We need the Colonel to do flight simming!
How dare you. I’m am a 50 year old mother with grandchildren and a girl dog! I’m proud to say you should never do fighting! Where are you parents?!
Oh man. With a keyboard. Now that would be hilarious. To be fair, I've been flight simming for a two weeks now, and I can't still land an aircraft properly. Mouse yoke helps, only a little though.

Always impressed by your ability to make the most of your end section. One wonders if you're you still using the trade/ professional nom-de-plume Sugar Maple or was it Mabel, Sugar .. Dat-de-Dah .. De-dat-da-Dahhh .. Boom-De-Bump De-Bump-Bump .. Bump. No! That's not the Blatman Theme .. that goes Dinner-Dinner-Dinner-Dinner: Blatman. ;o)
I expected you to do a high speed derailment, but disappointed that you didn't. Now want to see you derail in Derail Valley.
Do you know the way to San Jose? I don't know if the Colonel does, but Dionne Warwick did.:)
lol I love the announcements. How do you make the sound and change voice?
I edit the audio as part of making the videos. Not in the game, sorry.
TSW 2020 now multiplayer already? I can just imagine 60 online players sharing the tracks on any particular continent.
Surely a coincidence. In the news one day ago "1 struck, killed by Caltrain while walking on tracks in Sunnyvale, officials say"
The blank screen is for Positive Train Control (which is sort of like ETCS if you know what that is. Otherwise just google it :p ). The screen does nothing right now because PTC has not yet been rolled out on the Peninsula Corridor IRL
Also, if you're going to be doing more Caltrain, this pdf will probably help. signals.jovet.net/rules/Caltrain%20Signal%20Rules.pdf
The flashing red with no other color was a speed restricting signal, not an absolute stop (which is solid red with no other color and no number plate), so you were fine to keep going.
As for learning signal aspects, don't focus on "all of these mean this," as it gets confusing really quickly focus more on "this is what all of these have in common for this aspect." The bad news is that Caltrain, Union Pacific, and BNSF all differ _just_ enough to make you pull your hair out :p
0:45 Colonel Failure rattles of random letters as triplets - TRIPLETS - walks past the camera on the left side of the platform
29:00 Next week in Airplane Sim Wold 2020, Colonel Failure opens the front windows and repeats "That's gonna make for a nice breeze"
33:00 Phantasmagorical? THE worst video game ever made?!?
Does anybody know how to turn on passagenger lights in the MP36PH-3C?
Not sure if it's offered in any dlc, but you should see if they have the ACE train running to/from Stockton/San Jose. If you do, you can wave to me as you pass through Livermore!
I am trying to use the trailer on this but it gives absolutely no power. I have brakes cut in and blown, key on 3 switches on reverser in forward doors off and deselected HEP for compressor on but it does not move. Even with procedure followed as before but it still does not move. Why is this not moving? I also can't get any of the services with the Nippon Sharyo set to enter San Francisco due to the signals not allowing them in section south of 22nd st and the Bombardier set can't seem to move at all anymore.
wot oh look its u again well then if u a railyard employee then u know how to work the train properly and wot is nippon sheryo that is not railroad term for anything besides u reported for saying false laws on that other channel so jost sft up alrady

Where’s the homeless pooping on the platforms?
The most annoying things of this video were the overspeed from playing eith the visor and the bell being on for almost the whole journey.
Alright, he just turned the bell off after it being on for a long time
Can someone confirm what spec of PC this is running on? Thanks.
I'm running quite a beefy set up for video purposes:
Intel i9 9900k
32 GB RAM
GeForce GTX 1080ti

Last time I checked, yes.
Do you know the way to San Jose?
I like this train
Please play Zusi 3. The level of carnage you would bring is just too alluring to pass up.
Plus Run 8, but thats me.
Mp15dc caltrain dlc coming soon to tsw.
actually San Fran should be called central cal... I live 300 mi north on the coast which is truly NorCal.
Most Brits don't know the greography of the US and they certainly don't cromprehend the distances. As I lved in Texas for about 14 years I understanf BIG!!
As a fellow NorCal Coaster. I agree. I wished i could adequately describe just how awesome this part of the world is.
@@afacelessname1378 perfectly understandable....but even in my own state the media especially in SoCAL, don't understand the locations/distances
When your from LA, Northern California is basically anything north of “The Valley” (San Fernando) 😛
I think it was the over speed light that broke
The Colonel's escapades are usually done without the safety systems active (not sure if that's deliberate or TSW scenario default). There was one video where he was gallivanting around with the camera and returned to find the train stopped. He didn't hear the alerter/vigilance device and been given a penalty application for his troubles. He'd go stark raving if he had to respond to the alerter, overspeed, signals, etc. Besides, he hasn't broken a train since... last video.
San Jose to San Fran big glitch. 5 trains can't get into the station.. Dovetail fixes nothing..
The train does not tilt its the banking of the track
bruh the next video on my auto play was a train crash compilation lol
They were probably driving with a higher level of competence.

48:00 Maybe because of the door being open?
6:30 I've done that, it's not as exciting as you'd think.
Looks like a cockpit of a 737 to me
You know, I just bought this train. And downloaded and it installed. And it didn’t even show up in train sim world. I reset my Xbox, and I even let it wait. Still not there. What a waste of money
It'll be there. It only runs on specific scenarios and timetables however.
Colonel Failure I bought it yesterday. In the afternoon. Please tell me when it will show up. This is urgent
Colonel Failure And does it even work on Xbox?
It won't appear in the menu like a route does - it run on the Peninsula route, so load that as usual then check scenarios and timetables/service mode to find a Baby Bullet option.
Obviously, if you play on Xbox you'll have needed to buy the Xbox version (it's obvious, but worth mentioning) - if you bought it on Steam it won't work on your XB
I tell you something that America has to do with their trains that England and Germany don’t have. Level tracks 😂
