Drink Fruit Juice For Better Thyroid Health (Here's Why)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 тра 2024
- Is fruit juice worse than soda or is it actually healthy for your body and thyroid? I'm going to argue that every thyroid patient should drink it and here's why:
1. Drinking it does NOT cause weight gain.
Study after study show that drinking more fruit juice is associated with a leaner BMI.
2. Drinking it will NOT cause diabetes or insulin resistance.
Meta-analyses show that 100% fruit juice consumption does NOT increase diabetes risk and has a neutral impact on blood sugar.
3. Fruit juice may help reduce inflammation in your thyroid gland.
The polyphenols in fruit juice can help protect your thyroid gland from oxidative damage.
4. The carbs found within can help support thyroid function.
Thyroid patients need carbohydrates for optimal thyroid function so you might as well get some of these carbs from fruit juice given their may benefits.
5. Drinking it can improve your gut health.
Gut function plays an important role in regulating thyroid health and drinking fruit juice can improve your gut.
Which fruit juice should you drink?
Drink only 100% fruit juice and avoid anything from concentrate or with added sugars.
My three favorites for thyroid patients include:
Orange juice, apple juice, and pomegranate juice but pretty much any fruit juice will provide benefit to your thyroid.

As a diabetic they taught me to eat fruit with its fiber instead of drinking juice.
That is correct as a diabetic it's better to eat fruit with the fiber instead of juicing it. Just like doctor child said it's better for diabetics just to drink 4 to 8 oz of fruit juice
I think blueberry is a good option?
The high A1c and diabetes will go away if you take daily chromium and venedium minerals. It’s that simple yes 🙌🏼 ❤
Personally, I would NEVER drink a commercial juice. But, at 62 (with Hashimoto, had gut problems but now fixed). I promise you using a juicer with apples, a 1" piece of ginger & vegetables does learn out the body and gives you beautiful glowing skin. I occasionally drink fresh orange and pomegranate.
It's alive, unprocessed and fresh.
Since you are recommending 100 grams of carbs each day, I am curious about your opinion of eating sourdough bread made with organic flour as part of the allowed carbs. I do believe that commercially made bread is bad for us due to chemicals and seed oils. I am also old enough to remember when I was a child, true obesity was rare.
@@terrypurvis2535 I used to buy organic wheat berries and grind them myself in a champion juicer and make breads. I REALLY love a good bread! But it's not a good source of nutrition. Also with my Hashimoto, I just don't seem to digest wheat well
I found this great recipe online for zucchini crusted pizza. Even without the toppings and changing a few ingredients in the "dough". I find it really satisfying.
@@terrypurvis2535
I make sourdough bread from freshly ground spelt berries. I grind them in my Vitamix blender. Spelt has a much lower concentration of gluten, and after going through the fermentation process, the gluten is so low that it can even be tolerated by those with celiac supposedly. And what’s funny is that I just got mine out of the oven a few minutes ago, ha ha! I am waiting for it to cool!
When I consumed fruit juices, I gained liver fat despite working out very intensively way back in 2019 as well as my blood labs showed otherwise. Want it or not, fiber does slow down fructose absorption and the liver is unable to deal with a lot of fructose at once. However, I've been eating a lot of papaya (or pineapple) and cooked apples after my workouts with whey protein and still my TSH keeps rising. My glycated hemoglobin stands at 5.3, a bit high considering the intensity of my workouts and the absence of sugar and simple carbohydrates.
After the pandemic, I can't fully trust science. My blood test labs show otherwise, dude. I strongly suggest you try what you're preaching yourself and check your labs.
I’m glad you mentioned the amounts because one cup or half a cup isn’t much. Here’s me thinking I could have a couple of glasses ! 😂
Blame all the dietitians that teach us this disinfo.
I finished a dietetics degree but never practised
They taught us about the lack of fibre in juices but they never mentioned polyphenols
Interesting. Dr Ray Peet has been preaching this for years. This is a good validation.
It’s VERY interesting and counterintuitive!!!
I have hashimotos and extra weight and am insulin resistant and doing carnivore or keto got me losing 15 lbs to gaining it all back once I reintroduced carbs. Have done this many times with the same result. Now, im eating 1500 calories a day of any food, including a cup of juice a day, and have been consistently losing 1-2 lbs a week. No cravings, no obsessing over lack of a food group, and feel great. I stop eating between 6-8 pm and for breakfast only have a 20 gr protein collagen coffee. Ill eat my first meal at around noon and then dinner later. Drinking collagen coffee for two years now has healed my leaky gut and Im able to eat gluten (non american wheat). My TPO which was in the 300s for a decade, has finally fallen to 60, despite eating gluten every day. I don’t eat processed foods or seed oils. I use monk sugar instead of cane and eat pretty clean 90% of the time.
Did you have any high liver markers before being diagnosed with Hasi? My liver markers were higher then they should have been and so was cholesterol. I think the liver caused my high TPO antibodies. It’s so confusing at first to see what caused the autoimmune.
Which collagen brand do you use?
@@MS-jk6gj- My liver markers were always normal.
@@komalgulati04- Orgain Collagen Peptides. Two scoops in coffee every morning.
I struggled on keto and intermittent fasting for a month, and felt awful, with a number of hypothyroid symptoms. It turns out that I'm quite low in vitamin D, which also affects the thyroid. The past few days, I've started taking up to 10000 IU of vitamin D3 each morning, along with K2 and magnesium, and my energy is slowly coming back. Also in the past week, I've started including an orange or grapefruit in my still-low-carb diet every day.
@msmith,
Almost the exact same thing happened to me! I have since gone with the bio energetic diet after trying out carnivore for seven months and doing worse and worse wise. I am loving having so much fruit again!
Wow, THANK YOU, again Dr Childs!!! I recently starting going back to drinking juices and seeing the benefits.
That’s weird.
Thank you doctor. I love orange and pommegrate juices.
This is 100% fruit juice. Most store bought juices have added fructose and sugars.
I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis and I've been eating lots of fruit for many years and never gained weight sometimes I put it in smoothies
Thank You Dr Childs have been eating oranges and apples once in a while now I will try to take the juices interchangeably.
Or that their sugar feeds mold if you have mold in your body, which seems to kickstart Hashimoto's/low thyroid/hyperthyroid - all thyroid and hormone issues.
What about beet juice? Would it still count?
I do love love your channel.
Keep it coming.
Yes yes yes yes yes
I am so avoiding doctors and dieticians, and you are helping me.
Hi. I'm new here.
Does all this thyroid advice apply to people who have had their thyroid removed?
I was hoping he would talk about that.
Fresh squeezed? Is this OK? I do not have a thyroid Gland! So, what is the best juice? Orange? Lemon? Pomegranate etc. what is the optimal juice?
I eat a lot of fruit on a low fat whole food plant based diet. I have not only completely headed my Hashimoto's hypothyroid, but I have also lost weight. Low carb diets left me feeling terrible, and gaining weight.
Yeeeeeeeees🎉 I have realised that my body is so happy when I drink my apple juice!!!!! My body actually feels as though it becomes alive and one can buy natural organic juice!!!! Thank you 🙏 ❤❤❤
You said one of the benefits of drinking juices is weight gain. Is that correct what you said? That's what I'm fighting right now is weight gain.
I have hashimoto thyroiditis, and now also gastritis, is fruit juice ok with both autoimmune diseases?
Yes it is okay I have both also my gastritis went away I know at times alcohol and coffee may trigger it. eating fruit or even juicing your fruit are fruit smoothies will not make it worse
Is gastritis considered autoimmune?
No it is not
What about someone that does not have a thyroid, is it still helpful?
Would 1/2 cup of basmati be a healthy carb? Brown or white? Beans? Veggies
I have not found any fruit juice without added sugar.
What juicer is better
Its become so complicated, centered around the medication, and centered around the thyroid. What’s helpful for the thyroid interferes with the med. im tired of being dominated by the medication which seems impossible to cleanly absorb. And im angry over all the ignorance and indifference, the lack of medical knowledge to treat people. I guess for a 10 min visit, no one cares, it would take effort, time, and focusing on the individual. Not going to happen.
I can tell you the 'why' your thyroid function declines on low carb. I went full carnivore, zero carb, for over a year as a last ditch attempt to heal my thyroid without meds. At the end of a year, yes, I was skinny, but my hba1c was rock bottom, while my cholesterol was off. the. charts. (TC: 650, non-HDL: 580, Trigs: 378). Turns out I was insulin suppressed. When I ate, my body basically behaved like a type 1 diabetic. No insulin spike whatsoever. From what I've read, insulin is anabolic, so you need it for hormone creation. Without enough insulin, your T3 and T4 are going to decline as well.
So I'm back on the carbs and am taking a combo T3 and T4 medication. My digestion is finally starting to normalise. Just wish I hadn't wasted a year trying to sort it out through diet.
Fruit juice is not good for liver ?
I give up 🤷 🙄
“Weight gain”?
yes,, he made an error and wanted to say "weight loss", of course, but if you are used to watching his videos, it's very rare from him and his explainations and advices are very usefull, personnaly it helped me a lot to understand my hypothyroidism and what to do to overcome this awful problem and its consequences on my health... I am forever so grateful to those doctors that give us all these informations, when they are reliable, on youtube, contrary to many doctors in their practices that only give you useless medications/pills with terrible side effects as I experienced in the past before discovering that a (huge) change in my lifestyle and diet was the solution and made my symptoms disappearing practically overnight, becoming vegan from vegetarian, even if it was hugely difficult to stop eating dairies but with some supplements and plants I took momentarily, exercising regularly, now I feel so much better, I will never ever go back to my destroying ways of eating. No more inflammation, brain fog, exausted from morning to evening , stomach pain, arthrosis and so on...
I thought you were not suppose to have citrus on levo?
The problem isnt fruit juice, its the additives iinside 99% of them.
Just eat the fruit itself! People with hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's are also prone to having insuline resistance, so....why? why?
is tomatoes a fruit or a veggie?? I know what it is but with "fruit juice" what are you calling it??
tomato juice is in a lot of fruit juice mixes i've had, just check your sensitivity to nightshades
What about lemon juice, is it good too?
Absolutely! I drink squeezed lemon in water daily.
@@ceilconstante640 ok, thanks.
Lemon is an anti inflammatory so it’s good for you.
Same here, I add organic lime and organic 🍋 juice into my distilled water among ACV apple cider vinegar 👌🏼
Sorry just check after u drink some
Dr Westin Childs, what about if the person is both diabetic and hypothyroidism. What are other healthy sources of polyphenol? I eat about 136 gm of carbohydrates, I like prunes and blueberries.
I'm not Dr. Childs, but just chiming in to say that I usually stick to raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, and grapefruit. Not diabetic, but it runs in my family and blood sugar is a concern for me.
better to eat whole fruit does contain fiber and full vitamins
I've valued many of your videos but not this one. With my experience the benefits of a whole unpeeled fruit is grater than just its juice.
Thyroid runs on sugar!! Juice is better for boosting thyroid labs - but overall the whole fruit is better for the gut. ❤
Volume of this video is too low
My labs got better after reintroducing fruit juices after being carnivore.
How long you were on carnivore? Did you eat meat only then, or some vegetables too?
@@mabajaki5555 15 months in total. No veggies other than occasional cucumber and onions. But that was very seldom and very small amounts. I couldn't fat adapt no matter what I did. I had 3 carnivore coaches so I did it in every way possible. Bcs I couldn't fat adapt I was constantly running on stresshormones and couldn't sleep more than a few hours a night. Carnivore can obviously be very healing for some but it really did a number on me.
@@cammieklund yes, I'm carnivore too, but few months only now. It suits to me best, I"m eating two mails in day (beef only), but I eat very small amount of arugula with every meal (because I want some fiber, it's only way for me to avoid diarrhea).
Ridiculous!! Just eat an orange! Need the fiber!
It's amazing how we've been convinced that sugar is bad for us. If God didn't want us to eat it He wouldn't have made it so tasty. I've always been lean and I eat an idiotic amount of sugar.
Awesome!! This is basically what Ray Peat taught. Sugar fuels our bodies. We need it. I switched from carnivore to Bioenergetics (Ray Peat WOE).
You're sounding a lot like Ray Peat.
Yes!! We need sugar. I’m learning about Ray Peat’s teachings through bioenergetics-Jay Feldman, Danny Roddy, Strong Sistas. Carnivore wasn’t my friend.
I drink 2 cups of juice during my workouts every other day. Massively helpful for recovery and performance
I’m shocked your telling people to drink fruit juice
Tell me about it…it’s very interesting and counter intuitive, to say the least.
nope.
too much fructose at one go
Didn't you lose your ability to practice and surrendered your license? Prescribing without examining people?
That’s because he likes to take a different approach to health and the powers that be didn’t like it I wouldn’t personally advocate fruit juice but dr Childs has done a lot of good work and is quite knowledgeable we need doctors that will oppose big pharma
@bridgethake8218 that's every disowned Physicians cop out. You realize that "big pharma" has made nearly every breakthrough drug. Physicians hate that many cost so much. They have zero influence on the pricing. This doc lost his license because he was "treating" patients without ever seeing them or examining them. That's a major violation of the standards of practice.
@@bridgethake8218 are you one of his bot followers?
@@TheWalterHWhite don’t be childish
I had a client who had a gastric bypass. Much of his calories came from fruit juices.
Before or after the gastric bypass?
@@PeaceIsYeshua You're right. Sorry. My comment was ambiguous. Before. It is what he attributed his obesity.
@@richardhole5301
Ah, okay! No worries, and thank you for responding! 😊
I doubt that it was solely fruit juices that caused his obesity, but perhaps it was what he felt most comfortable with sharing. People who get gastric bypass procedures done are not living the whole food life. And anyone conscious of their diet would have eliminated the offending factor before reaching obesity, or would at least be able to course-correct so as not to rely on surgery.
@@Amblin80s You could very well be correct. Most other people I know who had the surgery ate carbs. E.g. - lasagnas..
Disagree
I…don’t…believe…you
I'm sick to death of youtube health
