- Free crochet round placemat patterns for beginners. Crochet with me, it is easy and fun!
To make placemats I am using 4 mm MonoMey Studio braided cord. It is very soft and colorful.
You will need about 125 meters to make 1 placemat. Direct link to the same 4 mm MonoMey Studio cord I am using:

I've been trying to find a way to get this effect in the round, crocheting into the back loop only wasn't giving the same effect it does when working back and forth in rows. I didn't think to crochet into the back of the stitch. I will be using this to make a floor mat. Thank you for posting such a clear demonstration.

Maybe you were using wrong hook for your cord/yarn? What type of the yarn/cord you are using? And what thickness?
