We added a new family member and her name is Poki-Hontas.She is an African pygmy Hedgehog which are domesticated and commonly bred and sold as pets. I got her for my Birthday. Hedgehogs are very Prickly but Cute at the same time. They are Nocturnal animals. We bought her from a very experienced Breeder which had handled her properly and socialized her ( Beach Bum Hedgehogs) She has such a great Temperament and is seriously the most precious thing ever. I just love playing with her and giving her rubs. Nimbus is getting along with Poki really well.. We had to teach him that Poki was Friend not food !!!
Its illegal to own Hedgehogs as pets is couple of the states in America so just make sure to do your Research first :) I did get pricked couple times playing with her so I wouldn't suggest getting a Hedgehog if you have small kids.

Wow, you are one great pet owner... That Hedgehog looks so comfortable around you. To see a Hedgehog open up like that is so heartwarming. Great video.
The one way it get that attached to a human is because it is hand raised from day one. Just like with birds a hedgehog that is use to being handled by humans from day one will become very friendly, a hedgehog or bird that you buy from the pet store for example did not have that and will be much harder to get to handle. You should always buy pets like this from breeders that are use to humans touching them and holding them and that are raised in a very loving environment not like a pet store where they are treated like crap, small cages and many cramped in to those cages and pretty much never handled by a human.

Touché. I am only familiar with the original games (my brother had a Genesis when I was a kid).
We had a pet hedgehog named Sonic when I was a baby. That was 12 years ago. He's dead now (duh).

okay so now I seriously want a hedgehog thanks where do i get one like i want one now O.O
ScoopDeWOOP better off going to a breeder. don't go to a pet store because most employees don't know how to properly take care of a hedgehog. Breeders know more because that's what they take care of everyday. Do some research before hand though. Also make sure the hedgehog would be living in a warm environment. Can't be under 70 degrees or they go into early hibernation and that's bad. You would need to take them to an animal hospital to wake them up. And give them lots of love and don't be afraid to hold them with your bare hands, that's how you create a bond with them.

ScoopDeWOOP you could. Hedgehogs are usually anti social and mine sleeps a lot but you could try it. The only thing is, after 2 months the males have to be separated from the mother and the females from the mother at 3 months but both genders should be a part from each other until a certain age if you want them to mate. You may have to research it more if you really want to have two together. My hedgehog is about 5 - 6 months old and seems fine on his own. He really only sleeps most of the day, eats, drinks, runs around on his wheel or outside his cage with my supervision for maybe 1 hours and then goes back to sleep. It's actually really adorable. Also the more you spend time with them the more attached they'll become to you but it takes a while, maybe a month or two. Just be gentle when handling them. Let them sniff around. They're very curious when they get used to their environments.

I got permission because I'm very responsible with animals and volunteer at the vets, petsit some very exotic reptiles etc. etc. I'll be doing a veterinary medicine course soon enough. Pygmy hedgehogs are hard to look after, please don't get one unless you're old enough and very responsible.
PerpetualFeline I am so glad you said that... lets hope people listen to your advice. Sometimes people just get a pet because its cute, with no thought on how to care for it. Many times it ends up being neglected, dumped at a shelter or worse it ends up dead. I would love to have one of these, and I would research first but I could not get one because I have 4 cats that would not allow me to give enough alone time to this cute little animal. And I have a dog that would probably try to eat him. Hard enough keeping him away from the squirels in my back yard lol.

That hedgehog seems so loving and social. The one I had hissed and bit me no matter what I tried. After a year of interacting with him all the time and doing everything I found online and in books, I just had to sell him. He would bite so hard I bled. Not cool.
Well my doge attacks every single living being around him and it of course led to a fight with a hedgehog,the doge tried to munch the hedgehog but turned out that my doge's mouth were bloody as fuck and had a lil spike stuck in it,the hedgedoge survived and walked away like "that's what happens when you fuck with a hedgehog bitch"....you're lucky that your doge is a friendly one :l

you're not alone. I prefer animal videos to be silent with no music or anything. it's creates a more genuine atmosphere for observing animals. and plus since I'm a realist I know these animals probably weren't thinking any of those subtitles. makes it awkard and painful to sit and read. almost as if we're 4 year old children. the video is "cute" on it's own. subtitles actually take away from that lol!

Noobilly D you find them often in Europe, but you actually aren't really allowed to have them as pets.
You can cure them if they've been in a car accident etc, but if you don't have some kind of a farm your not allowed to have them longer as they're curing themselves from an accident.

G - Man It's called importing, something that countries have done for centuries. They're only illegal in a few states. I live in New Mexico and I own an African pygmy hedgehog just like the one in the video, and they're 100% legal to sell at pet stores and to own them of course here in NM.
