Meet my pet Hedgehog Poki !!!

- We added a new family member and her name is Poki-Hontas. She is an African pygmy Hedgehog which are domesticated and commonly bred and sold as pets. Hedgehogs are very Prickly but Cute at the same time. We bought her from a very experienced Breeder which had handled her properly and socialized her ( Beach Bum Hedgehogs) She has such a great Temperament and is seriously the most precious thing ever. I just love playing with her and watching her play. Nimbus still can't decide if She is Family or Food. Oh Silly Doggie ! Its illegal to own Hedgehogs as pets is couple of the states in America so just make sure to do your Research first :) I did get pricked couple times playing with her so I wouldn't suggest getting a Hedgehog if you have small kids.

You got lucky with a very outgoing hedgehog. Mine was grumpy and antisocial 24/7.
I did everything I could to bond with the little guy.
John Jacob what I did was pick her up with a towel and let her climb around on my hands
ive heard they get mean if theyve been neglected in the past or whatever...it makes sense though ya know☺️
Both of my hedgehogs where anti social, so I spent more time with them and the are social now
He runs all over poops and bites me

One of the fourth grade teachers in my school has a class pet hedgehog named Spike and he is always in the yearbook. His official name is "Spike Prickles".

She is lovely, and it is great to see that you are taking really good care of her. As someone who has a rescue rabbit, I am wary of breeders, some are more credible then others but some are similar to puppy mills always be sure to check that they genuinely care about the animals that they are not just for profit. As well there are many rescue animals that need caring, forever homes.

You should have a bigger cage for Poki, they like to explore around a lot more than you think. Also the water bottle you are using is really dangerous. Hedgehogs have long tongues, I have heard cases where hedgehogs have got there tongues stuck in them, and the hedgehog dying of shock. Lead my advice carefully. If you don't believe me, look it up!

Your hedgie has the sweetest temperament! I've never really seen one that is so mellow right from the get go; You've gotten her from a really good breeder. So cute! I'm very very jealous - I'm dying to have one, but it's illegal here in CA. :(
i was so excited about this vid until i heard u got her from a breeder. please next time, adopt ur pets, dont buy from breeders or pet stores. breeders only want to make money by selling baby animals and dont care for the babys' well being. u can adopt hedgehogs too
That just total rubbish. Good, educated breeders produce well handled animals that have a good start right from the beginning. Sadly there are poor breeders around, but there are good as well. Pet stores usually buy their pets from puppymills, and therefore you should always find an experienced breeder wherever you are and get your pet from there. It's very nice if you have all the time and knowledge to take care of an animal that has had a bad life (like many pets in shelters have), but it's not a shame to buy a pet from an experienced, responsible breeder.
And as a dog breeder myself, I can tell you you really do NOT get rich with breeding. On the contrary.
ColonelVaris ik there r good and bad breeders out there, but WHY would u breed in the first place when there r hundreds of animals in the shelters? instead of making more animals we dont need to even make any pocket money, how about helping the animals in the shelters find homes than making money from selling babies? i didnt say breeders get rich or not, my point is, its because of breeders there are hundreds of animals in shelters, and not everyone thinks of shelters first cuz they all want a little baby animal to care for from the start just cuz they're cute and cuddly, there is no diffierence in raising a baby or an adult animal. i would NEVER breed to sell to even make a penny, nor would i recommend anyone buying from a breeder or pet store. DONT BREED OR BUY WHILE SHELTER ANIMALS DIE
heartscurse Haha, because of BREEDERS there are animals without homes? No, because bad owners there are animals in shelters. As I said, it's great to have people who want to adopt and have the courage, knowledge and money to possibly pay a lot more than they would if they'd buy a healthy pup from a breeder, but not everyone has that will. I, for example, want a pet that has had a good start in it's life so it's as balanced as it can be. I know what you are saying and why, but that's like saying it was an irresponsible thing for any parent in the world to want a child and because of parents there are children waiting for adoption. Take a pet from the shelter if you have all the time and money to pay and take care of an possibly sick animal with inherited problems you don't know about because you don't know it's parents and if you are willing to get rid of the possible problematic behaviour it can have. I really really respect those people. Nut taking a pet from responsible breeder is a great thing to do. Shelter animals never stop being, because there are always bad owners. They are the ones abandoning the pets, not the good breeders who make good litters from as healthy and good quality parents they can with excellent temperaments.
ColonelVaris ur a breeder and im not, CLEARLY we both have different views, i encourage adopting animals so they can have a second chance a better life, whether they came from a bad owner or not, some gave them up cuz their owners cant care for them, i took in 4 animals from the street when they were homeless, AND i volunteer at a local nonprofit animal organization to help animals who have been dumped, put on the euthanasia list, and even babies that were rescued from "breeders". shelters make sure the animal up for adoption is healthy, they get check ups and get trained while at the shelter b4 they can be adopted, obviously YOU dont know that cuz ur too busy forcing ur animals to breed for money. like i said, DONT BREED OR BUY WHILE SHELTER ANIMALS DIE. those animals in shelters deserve better, they only do what they do to survive

And as I said, adopting is a great thing, but those are not dogs from reputable breeders that end up in shelters. Usually, when owner wants to get rid of the animal he/she bought from reputable breeder, breeder will help finding it a new home and even take it to live with him/her till it finds it's forever home. You are too hasty accusing every breeder to be bad you clearly miss a lot information about breeding. I, however, have been visiting shelters and even know a shelter keeper. Those animals are of course checked at the vet, but you can't know what lies behind their genes because you know nothing about their parents. They can suddenly become very sick. Also, many behavioral problems lie very deep and some can never been fully trained away. Adopting is a risk and I never recommend anyone to adopt their first pet, just to be sure. Shelter animals deserve a better home and many deserve a second chance, but like I said, those animals do not come from reputable breeders and they are not there because of them. Are you against having babies? If not, why is it wrong to have a pet from a breeder? Millions of children without homes live in horrible conditions and wait for adoption. It's nasty, but it happens. So do animal abuse and neglecting. Do NOT blame reputable breeders of that. You just make an idiot of yourself. I have all thumbs up for adopting animals from shelters, but you must know that it's a risk and it's not bad decision at all to buy your animal from a good breeder, That way it has a great start in it's life.

Domesticated Hedgehogs make great pets! I have on and he is absolutely wonderful. I couldn't ask for a better pet. Mine has a flower pot in his enclosure to hide in. But, he loves being held.

I have actually never seen or thought of using a tub as their home. that is really smart. I own a rat and have an aquarium for her but she actually jumps and if there isn't something on top of the lid she escapes really easily! I might have to try this! Genius!!!
