Eagle dude is doing Popov a great disservice referring to their wallets as "genuine" leather. Genuine leather is trash. Popov wallets are in fact full grain leather. the best of the best.
You must not have watched much of the video because I go into depth about the leather and what it's all about. Admittedly, I should have been saying full grain the entire time. But full grain leather is still genuine leather at the highest degree of quality.
@@EagleGarrett Yes, you should have been referring to it as full grain leather the entire time. And no, you should not be doubling down and saying full grain leather is genuine leather at the highest degree. That is somewhat of a nonsensical statement and misleading. Here is why.
Leather is graded on a scale:
Full grain leather - consists of the entire top layer of leather and is the highest quality most durable grade of leather, bar none.
Top grain Leather - also consists of the top layer of leather but has been sanded and/or treated and is slightly less durable.
Split grain leather - uses the bottom layer of leather, and the top layer is removed, leaving is less durable and more susceptible to damage.
And finally, the lowest grade of leather, Genuine leather. - uses the bottom layer and has been processed to become thin and smooth and is the cheapest grade of leather you can buy. In fact, the only thing cheaper than Genuine leather is Bonded leather, which isn't even real leather. It's made up of cheap genuine leather scraps and mixed with polyurethane to create a man made "leather"
Popov leather does not use "genuine" leather. In fact, I would bet you won't find the word "genuine leather" anywhere on their website. That is an insult to their quality products.

@@Jimmy-xo3ld You do understand, I'm not a leather officianado right? Haha. Sure, if you want to be technical, they aren't the same. But genuine leather is real leather. And full grain leather is also real leather. Just in different forms as you said. And the word genuine is not exclusively used as a leather type. It also means "authentic, or real" which is how I was using it in the beginning of this video. That can be seen when I actually break down the type of leather they use and call it full grain. If I was a pro in the leather industry then sure, you're right. But I'm like most people, not a pro in the leather industry and just sharing my thoughts on an awesome product.

It's NOT "Genuine" leather, it's "FULL GRAIN" leather, the top part of the hide, which is the best and highest quality leather you can find.
The bottom part of the leather, the part that is split off from the grain at the grain/corium junction, goes by many different names, and it can get really, really confusing. Many people refer to this bottom layer of leather as “genuine leather”, however, the term isn’t used consistently and is also used to mean real leather as opposed to manmade faux leathers. More terms you may see: split leather, corrected leather, embossed leather, coated leather, Suede, Napa leather (again, not a consistently used term), painted leather, and more.

My last wallet I got when I was 15, it's cost was 15$. I think it was that fake pleather stuff. It has lasted me 12 years; now it's going kaput. I need a new real leather wallet. I imagine I can get 15+ years out of a full leather wallet. These look good.

I have the Nantucket (black/grey) traditional with orange stiching. I've had it for a few months now and it's amazing. I'm also considering getting the heritage brown traditional with red stiching just to change it up once in a while. I also have 2 popov belts and the field notes cover. It's amazing quality stuff.

the inner mesh "cloth" pockets of that guess wallet is actually important as it maintains the longevity of your cards. if everything is leather, u put in your pocket and its hot weather, the leather will eventually breaks down and molded to that card. its hideous and ruins your card

Almost 3 years since this video and the price has gone up from $84 to $109. Yikes! What is the reason behind that? Though I'm still thinking about buying the trifold version which I believe was $99 and is now $124.

Genuine leather is the lowest grade you can get. I recommend only do full grain or top grain leather.

You could carry it front pocket but if you were going to do that regularly, I'd recommend looking at one of their more slimline minimal options. This one would stick out a bit much unless you had loose fitting pants.

How's the wallet going? Is it soft feeling now or still like how it was out of the box?
Wallet is awesome still! It's broken in a little with the card pockets so they are easier to get cards in and out of but still feels sturdy and structured. Real leather like this breaks in without losing the quality and just keeps feeling better! Still the best wallet I've ever had!

Nope, Genuine leather named products are worst, u think its good because its genuine but they only put genuine on it not to tell what kind of leather it really is. ..full grain leather and top grain leather those are the best type..

I am a vegetarian, it is alright for me to use a leather wallet? I use a leather wallet that has the same design as these wallets would it be likely that it came from animal skin?
All real natural leather comes from animals. But being a vegetarian just means you don't eat meat. Unless you're planning to eat your wallet, I think you'll be ok to use one of these fantastic wallets!

Well it's still a "genuine leather" which pretty much one of the worst types of leather. It ain't a top grain or full grain leather. You can get a higher quality wallet for less than the price
