    The one I made for myself a few months ago, I folded the leather wet, round a 20$ bill.. and allowed for thickness.. then soaked in green.... it was magic how it sewed together.

    Loved the new vlog! Im really into preserving old ways of doing things and creating a quality items that may have taken a long time to make but its going to last far longer than mass produced items. Which is why we bought a small farm to grow and can items, have chickens, we hunt we fish, I'm a woodworker that works in my spare time when I'm not schooling our kids. Its pretty much a cool life.

    where do you get thin veg leather that you use. All I can find is 6 oz and thicker. I find chrome tanned all over. I don't have a splitter. I just started working with leather about a year ago. I just started selling some of my work. it took a while to teach myself the stitching.

    When you a stitching why do you do that first little poke then go through with the other needle?

    • @Ohmie
      @Ohmie 4 роки тому

      Alex Riley I’m not the video creator, but I do create leather products professionally. This quick poke is made to open up the leather on the other side. Many leathers tend to “heal” themselves after some time passes, so a quick poke on the reverse side opens up the hole for a moment so that it’s easier to see it and easier to pass your other needle through. It also reduces friction on the thread since it creates a temporary “lip” that protrudes outward (rather than being force inward into the leather when passing your needle through, which would tighten the hole, increase friction on the thread). On thinner threads, this could even cause issues with stitch durability. So this quick poke back through negates these issues.
