Enjoyed your video of Achill. I fell in love with Achill when I went camping with the family in the 80's, and have been going there every summer since (I'm From Dublin). You missed a couple of areas like Keem Bay which is stunning and Minaun Heights. The castle or (Keep) you visited was owned by Granuaille (The Pirate Queen) her main base was Clare island you can see at 10:57 in the distance. She met with Queen Elizabeth 1 in the fourteenth century Her ships sailed up the River Thames in London, where Grace met Queen Elizabeth at Greenwich. On meeting the Queen, Grace refused to bow, stating that she herself was a Queen of her land and not a subject of the Queen of England. As Granuaille could not speak english and Elizabeth could not speak gaelic they conversed in Latin.
Hi Tommy, yeah it is a beautiful place in Ireland! Unfortunately due to time restrictions we couldn't visit everywhere but always good to have a reason to return! Thanks for the information -lots of fascinating stories to be heard 😊 Here is the full playlist of the UK and Ireland tour -the scenery on this trip was spectacular and the weather was near perfect! ua-cam.com/play/PLl_mRzVHVQ0zUtFe7yIi6rO-2-k465D31.html&si=LTyeFi4IYnc4SKd6
That castle was one used/built by the pirate queen Grace o'Malley. I love visiting Achill which has now become ultra popular because of film locations there.
Thanks for the info, yeah Achill island is beautiful so we can see why it's getting popular, nice to see visitors are being respectful and leaving the place as they found it.
I don't think it's a particularly big island...as he heads for the largest island off the island of Ireland! Hi there, as a Westport man I'm so happy that you enjoyed your time in our beloved little home. You were very lucky with the weather. Please come back and visit us again when you have a bit more time. It's well worth it, I promise you! Loving your videos btw (just subscribed) 👍
