    That was a cracking day, ideal riding temperatures for me, not too cold and not too hot. We toured Ireland in July, and although we had a lot of heavy rain, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Dress for the ride (including weather) but i must say 3½ hours of monsoon rain from Killarney to Rosslare was hard going, my Oxford Mondial kit kept me dry. So far you have been lucky with the weather

    This was EPIC! The drone VLOG at the cliffs was actually emotional. I was so drawn into the video and the music that I didn't want it to end. Loved the embrace, handholding and the kiss...very special additions to a really well-done video. I now realize that I missed so much while I was in Ireland in 2015. We stayed mostly in the southern portion.
    Regarding tires...on my 2022 R1250GS, I replaced the Metzler Karoo 4 original tires with Metzler Tourance Next 2 which significantly improved the road riding. My riding was 90+% road and 10-% off-road. The other tire I considered was the Michelin Road 6, but I think the Michelin Anakee Road would be a good 80/20 combo tire. I'm in the US so availability and popularity are a little different than in Europe. The Metzler tires were about $200 less than the Michelin (front & rear combined).
    Thank you, my friends! The Scotland videos were outstanding and I'm enjoying the Ireland trip just as much if not more. So well done by an amazing couple.

    • @SeanandEmily
      @SeanandEmily  Місяць тому

      Hi Jim, thanks so much for your encouraging words! Your right some of these natural formations against the music is emotional indeed and it's great to hear that it moved you 😊
      There's indeed lots to see and we are sure there's plenty more we could have seen too.
      We have had 2 sets of the Tourance next 2's and was very impressed with them. We got a safe 6000 mile out of each set but probably could have pushed them to 7000 or even more. That's interesting as the Meltzer's here are still considered a premium tire and are the same price as the Michelins. How many miles did you get out of the Karoo 4's? -thinking about them for future tours that require a bit more off road traction.
      Really glad to hear you have enjoyed these episodes and in case you are interested in the other parts of this tour here is the full playlist so far:

      @Jim-ub9qy Місяць тому +1

      @@SeanandEmily I can't attest to the Karoo 4's because I sold the motorcycle with only 3,000 miles on it. Sure wish I had it back, but two big BMW's is a bit much to ask especially when I'm not getting much road time with the RT. I think the Metzler's are a premium brand but for some reason American's hold Michelin high on the list, and there is nothing wrong with them, but I think Metzler is equally as good, if not better. Really enjoying all the videos and the time getting you know you through them.
      By the way...I watched the Scotland video's first and then Ireland. Hopefully I'll be caught up in a few weeks and will be current with your posts. All excellent!

    • @SeanandEmily
      @SeanandEmily  Місяць тому

      Well 3000 miles is a good start for them, yeah totally get that ^-always the way with multiple bikes (there's always a go to and then the others don't get used and what's the point in servicing them all.
      From what I've heard the Meltzer's are also more puncture resistant but i've not had any issues with either of them.
      Ahh okay, the Scotland videos seemed to be the most popular 😊

    If you want road going tyres Michelin Road 6s apparently,
    I use Michelin Road 5s on a SX kawasaki 1000 Tourer the last set I had 9300 miles still had some tred but was squaring off ,
    Lovely coastal scenery 😊 mounds of grass looked weird on the cliff tops 😮

      That's good milage on a powerful bike, the stresses that bike bikes put on tires is incredible when you think about it.

    Another brilliant day riding, I've never been to Downpatrick Head, very impressive and just wow, another one for the bucket list next year, thanks for sharing it, and of course the fun you both have, brilliant camera angles and drone footage, I love my drone, and will take it on my tour of Spain in a few weeks, Did you end up getting new tyres in Belfast? there a a couple of places, but I always use Charles Hurst Fast Fit Sydenham Road, near the Belfast Docks, always brilliant friendly service and great prices. Question for you if you don't mind. What FPS are you using for filming with Action 4, 25, 30, 50 or 60? I normally run 25 when filming commercial and weddings, as we are in UK and better for indoor work and lighting, if you use 50FPS, do you find it smoother than 25 for riding footage? Brilliant video and look forward to next one :)

    • @timcully4706
      @timcully4706 4 місяці тому +1

      @@SeanandEmily Thanks for taking time and sharing your info, I have tested it at 25 and 50FPS and 50 is better, 60 is a good option also if not filming much indoor, so I will stick with the 50FPS, as you say best to keep high quality if computer can handle it, I also have tested a slower SD card, as I had one, and although the camera shows a message that the card maybe too slow, during my test rides, there was no problem. I have found that I'm lucky to get 90 minutes on a full battery, but I am guessing it takes more power, fliming at 50FPS 4K, as I got nearly 2 hours at 25FPS.
      Fair play to you both with the amount of time it takes to edit these series, very appreciated for your hard work.
      Great you got tyres eventually, as I remember, the Scottish roads are quite harsh also, Different compound I think for harsher winters, maybe that is the same for north west of Ireland.
      As always, looking forward to next part of the Heading West Series.

    Hi Guys
    I've got a follow up question for you that I asked (and got an answer) some time ago
    How is the BMW navigator going? I notice you use this and a phone (I assume Maps)
    Which one do you use. I see Sean looking down and it looks like the phone.
    If you are using the phone nav, what is driving the BMW navigator? Is that off a second phone?
    I'm trying to lock down what I use. Don't like the idea of using my phone because of heat etc. Using a NavVI atm but want to change because it is unreliable.
    The BMW Navigator is appealing but a lot of bad reports
    Any advice?

    • @SeanandEmily
      @SeanandEmily  4 місяці тому

      hey, yeah it's been great. THe navigator is driven by a GPX route made on calimoto (although you can manually enter destinations in, or shoot them over from the phone)
      The phone is using the calimoto app. We use the phone because GPX routes convert a plan into one straight line so it's easy to miss points that have been pinned. The navigator has only crashed about 5 times during the time we have owed it. The screen is easily scratched too. But if you have the cradle wired into your bike already it's not really worth getting another one.
      On the whole we are pleased with it.

      Yeah true, you can just about see it from the drone, apparently there were people living in teh house at the time of the storm!
      ''One night in 1393, a fierce storm occurred. A tidal wave exploded against the head and the bridge collapsed. The storm abated and the people saw the point of the headland with its fort and farm, now only a pillar in the sea. Those who survived the storm were stranded up there. Ships ropes were used to lower them to sea level and escape.''

    Hi guys, ref tyres, 50/50 tyres for longevity; Dunlop Trailmax mission up to 25k (two up on world travel by Lavi&Olli, Motoz Tractionator GPS about the same. Both better than anerkee.

      Wouldn't put 50/50 tires on a mostly tarmac road trip, we are heading to the NC 500 hundred next, with 143 Nm of torque through the back wheel no tire will be lasting that long on the GS 😉 Already had 2 sets of Anakee's offer great grip in the corners and are not too bad in gravel.

      Those cliffs are spectacular but your drone shots indicated a lot of sea erosion,undermining; maybe I'm overcautious but they really don't look safe. Sooner or later they'll collapse, I'd say.

    What type of maintenance would you do to the bike on a journey like this

    • @SeanandEmily
      @SeanandEmily  3 місяці тому

      Normally none whatsoever 😊 -but if we had a chain i guess that would require adjusting and oiling , Usually do a service before a big trip but this time it was not due so will have to do a service on the road.

      We meant that the cliffs of Moher had a similar feel when the railings weren't there.
