personally, daisy being tanned makes sense since she is a desert princess so....
She's not a Desert Princess, the desert is just one of the 4 kingdoms of Sarasaland.

I think the reason for Daisy's shorter hair is that they wanted to make her look a bit more tomboyish, which makes sense

The King Boo in Sunshine is a different one, his Japanese name is different. He's known as Boss Boo over there.
It makes sense. I always saw Sunshine King Boo as King Boo's crazy drunk brother whether than as the real King Boo.
Yeah, if I’m not mistaken the explanation was that the Boos in sunshine along with the enemies and Yoshis (for some odd reason) are all creations of the magic paintbrush.
@@GanzoHasashi1911 that’s really interesting that Bowser Jr created a fake King Boo, especially since King Boo created a fake Bowser a year earlier in Luigi’s Mansion
@@TheDerpyDolphinyeah which the fake bowser is why there is the theory that king boo and bowser are the same person (even thought i don't think that's true)
I always thought of the Sunshine King Boo as being the ghost of Wart, cuz the frog eyes, long tongue like frogs, and the similar boss fight mechanics involving throwing food at them that they’re weak too!😄
I liked Daisy's new hair design but I wish they kept everything else, I liked her dark skin and the red crown, and her silly personality. 🥺🥺🥺
Her personality was the same as peach and she is tan in the recent games
@@Go_go_gadget she was more on the silly airhead side back then, her skin did change to a tan color in super rush do you know any other recent games her skin change to tan?
Everything about classic Daisy was better. Massive L redesign
@@MGabBell her skin was dark on the N64 in Mario party 3.
Ya know its kind of funny because the tan made sense too. Daisy came from the sarasa land kingdom compared to Peaches mushroom kingdom. So Daisy sees a lot more sun on average. Peachs blank white skin made sense constantly having the mushrooms blocking out the sun in areas like mushroom gorge. Not to mention half the time she is stuck in bowsers dungeon. In the end its game character so who the fck cares as long as the character is essentially the same. Its not like they turned daisy into a female living fungus goop hahaha.
I like how they're actually beginning to bring back Daisy's darker skin tone in all the new games (which I believe started with the newest golf or party game iirc)
Tbh I think the tan looks great with her color scheme. The light skin with the yellow dress makes her look too "bright"
@@wickedchild8501 I said the same thing when I saw her redesign for Mario Party 4. I was like “why is she so pale!?”

Is it just me, or did Nintendo just straight up whitewash Daisy?
@UltimateDespairado It's called she moved out of Sarasaland and got out of the hot sun
@@UltimateDespairado yes, they really did (even though she’s back to being slightly more tan now). Nintendo can’t stand having POC characters in their games (besides avatars, and even that is a relatively recent addition). Pokémon probably has the most of them (though that was definitely not the case a few years ago). Japan is still a highly exclusionary and racist place, and that’s reflected in their media.

The reason so many returning enemys (And Yoshi) are weird in sunshine is because they are imitations drawn by Bowser Jr.
That explains why the enemies in that game look more cartoony than usual.
And the Boo's case, it wasn't supposed to be King Boo, but Boss Boo (or Big Boo as he's normally called) but English translators just decided to use King.

"What if we make him a heroine addict" 💀
💀
Shy guy has undergone zero changes in design because he is already perfect
There was a weird change to the Super Mario UA-camr “Don Shnack” too, some say he was once called “Shnack Plays”…
HAHAHAH 🤫🤫🤫
@@DonShnack Those aren't the only characters I would know. Syrup had a change in Wardrobe, which would've been nice if Waluigi didn't replace her; but the most notable change for me (outside of Yoshi of course) would be Bowser. Although he had a change in color, the major change would be Bowser's hair. Went from a slick Crown-shaped mowhawk back in 1986 to an American-Sonic style faux-hawk in 1996. It makes sense they couldn't pull off the crown mowhawk look back in the N64 days as an in-game model while the 3D renders retained the look, but they ditched the cooler looking hair after switching to the Gamecube? The only piece of media directly from Nintendo that retains the Crown Mowhawk would be the Smash Bros. series; from Melee to Ultimate, Bowser retains the Crown-mohawk that his mainline counterpart failed to keep. Plus, Bowser's 2D art and silhouette symbol still uses the Crown look. So, knowing this, I asked Extra_Dragons211 to make a skin mod based on Bowser's 1980s look, which you can try out right now.
I will note, Daisy was significantly paler in the original artworks for SML outside of the box art. Her becoming darker looking in 3D renders is something that all of the characters underwent back in the N⁶⁴ era as they were still figuring out skin texturing (heck, Mario looks yellow in many renders) so it's not like the GameCube redesign came completely out of the blue.
King boo feels like the kind of guy would be addicted to heroin!
modern daisy looks completely different peach. not just the hair style. the face is different. she's got a more square head, no lip stick. the mouth is closer to the nose.
I've noticed her different features and I've actually really appreciated that they give her a distinct face. In this world where Luigi originally existed for just a recoloured player 2 sprite but later got a completely different design, the girls deserve better than the recolour treatment too!
As a kid, I liked that she looked a little more like me with her hairstyle and rounder face, and would pick her in games. Also it's slightly hilarious that she insists on screaming her own name at full energy constantly like a pokemon 😂
i miss daisies tan, it suited her so well
Ikr, it's not even a matter of REprEseNtAtIon or whatever, it just MAKES SENSE cause she's the princess of a desert land so of course she'd have more melanin in her. Plus it looks better with the rest of her design, so ^^

I mean daisys desing went from Princess reskin to tough as heck tomboy
The ship has probably sailed for more Olympic Mario and Somic games, but it would've been cool to give her a slightly different build to Peach like how Luigi is a little taller and slimmer than Mario.
Idk, make her a little bit shredded in her athletic gear? Genuinely, as a "little girls think strong women are super cool" kind of thing
The rhythmic bustle is glorious
Peach herself also changed. In the original Super Mario Bros. for the NES she had a white dress and brown hair. And her name was different. While in japan she was always Peach, in the west her name was Toadstool, until we see her as Peach in Super Mario 64.
Super Mario RPG for the Super NES is the last time she was called Toadstool in a game.
I thought she had red hair?
I wish they kept her tan because it really fit her warm colour palette. I’m glad they gave her a different hairstyle because it gave her more of an individuality.
Imo I've always preferred Daisy's original design in the N64 era, I always thought she looked a bit weird and sickly with the much fairer skin. Tan suits our girl best since she's the princess of a desert kingdom and shown to be the most active/sporty of the group, which means she'd likely be outside a lot.
Her original skin tone was pale she got her tan later on the Nintendo 64
It’s not a desert kingdom

Daisy’s glow up will always be one of my absolute favorite redesigns. She went from “Peach with airport problems” to the baddest bitch in the Mushroom Kingdom… or Sarasaland, however you slice it.
I forgot that I wrote this comment, but old me knew what was up.
Do you mean “baddest bitch” as in hot or badass?

I really like the short hair though
Daisy was absolutely made more sense with the tan, and we can always use more characters that aren't just straight pale
They took Daisy's melanin 😢
Sunshine enemy designs were crazy looking, got wasted looking Boos, digital watch bomb ombs, and bloopers with DSLs
It's very likely there's more than one King Boo; considering we continue to come across normal looking King Boos. The one in Luigi's Mansion also used to look normal if Super Mario 64 DS is to go by (and Mario canonically did encounter him off-screen in the N64 version).
Even then, the one in Super Mario Sunshine wasn't even supposed to be a King Boo. His real name in the Japanese version is Big Boss Boo. However, the localizers ended up mucking that up.
"What if we made him a Heroin addict" had me ballin my eyes out of laughter 😂
Sarasaland is literally based on several different countries all where people of colour live, it made sense that Daisy had naturally dark skin and I'm genuinely kind of upset that they lightened her because she was like the only non white Mario character
Her skin tone was actually inconsistent back then. and when I say that, I mean she was dark-skinned in Melee and... nowhere else. Seriously.
@@natnew32 did you not watch the video? She literally had dark skin in multiple games. People like to say "tanned", forgetting that that's just a natural skin color some people have
@@lavender317 It's barely anything in the MP3 picture shown and there is Zero tan in the Super Mario Land boxart. Looking at games not shown, there's also nothing in Mario Tennis and the golf games... that's prettymuch every time she used her old design.
She looked pretty white. Just w a slight tan
“Non-white”? Bruh she’s a redhead with blue eyes, it only makes sense for her to be this pale. Redheads don’t even manage to tan. They’re literally the whitest people around lol
There's actually many differences between Peach and Daisy. More of the fact they are well "opposites". Furthermore details on her character are different if you look close enough.
Like how Peach has more sharper features and daisy has round features. Mostly in their face.
You just need to look close enough
Yoshis design changes go FAR beyond just not being as hunched over anymore. They changed his nose into a bowling ball, made his cheeks smaller, and basically turned his eyes into his entire head. His arms got longer, and his neck was erased. Modern 2D Art has created a brand new design that basically uses the old head and neck on his new body.
If you wanna see something cursed, look up NSMBWii's standalone Yoshi art. It's cursed as heck, and it's because his new body isn't meant to be that hunched over.
Daisy's facial change was definitely for the better, but ditching the tan was dumb. It's cool that that's back in her design in the more recent games. Her dress change made her look MUCH more like Peach than she ever did, so they definitely weren't trying to differentiate them by making those changes.
King Boo in Sunshine-- and many of the enemies in general --look weird because they were painted by Bowser Jr.
I never thought about the enemies looking whack because of Bowser Jr's paint brush that's actually sick ngl. I knew Yoshi had more notable changes, just didn't mention all of them for the sake of the short ya feel. Appreciate the comment tho fr, interesting stuff ya brought up fs
@@DonShnack Oh yeah, it's definitely a pain to try to fit a lot of stuff into a simple short, haha.
Sunshine is really interesting for all of the enemy design changes. Like Yoshi looks normal in Sunshine, but he's supposed to be paint (that's why he needs juice to stay alive, and why he dissolves in water).
And Petey is also made of paint, yet he appears in future games physically, with the ability to cough up goop balls, just like the paint version in Sunshine.
And why is Bowser Jr so good at drawing Yoshi & Petey, but not anyone else? Quite interesting.
Melee Yoshi was something else!
"She stopped hitting the tanning parlor" and the gym apparently
I love Sunshine's weird takes on the design of enemies.
King boo is an easy explanation, he’s on vacation too and has been hitting up the buffet 24/7
King Boo in Sunshine is actually suggested not to be the original King Boo but a drawing of him brought to life by the magic brush! This also applies to the game's Boos! Mind you, they are a different character altogether in the Japanese version!
I actually like daisy better with tanned skin because y’know, her kingdom is a desert and all
Nope, only Birabuto Kingdom is a desert. Sarasaland is an Empire that constitutes of four kingdoms and she rules them all.
@@Mari_Izu oh, weird, I remembered it being a desert
Nintendo was on their Genshin Impact saga when they whitewashed Daisy to oblivion.
Yoshi's old design made more since considering he was a Dinosaur steed.
Daisy went from okay to having a creepy baby face.
whats creepy about it
I see everyone talking about the Daisy skin fiasco. As a black person and a huge Daisy fan, Daisy was never melanin. When she debuted, she originally had pale skin. Look at her Super Mario Land artwork. Eventually, that look carried on in NES Open Tournament. When Mario Tennis 64 came out, that’s when nintendo designed Daisy to have a darker skin tone (keep in mind, it’s not black or melanin, it’s darker somewhat similar to a tan look). But in the in game model, her skin tone looked exactly like Peach. Finally, when Mario Party 3 came out, nintendo kept the darker skin Daisy in the artwork and incorporated that into the in game model. She didn’t have a tanned/darker skin tone when she first debuted in her super mario land artwork but the n64 era is how we remember her look. Then the redesign happened and Daisy now had a skin tone close to her debut appearance. What made me not like her new redesign is the fact that nintendo basically copied and pasted another nintendo character look onto Daisy…and that character was Azalea (from Mario Golf). But nowadays, Daisy kind of have a tan/darker tone as of Mario Party Superstars and Mario Golf. But her skin tone in Mario Strikers Battle League is a little bit lighter but not as light as it was in Mario Party 4 or her debut appearance.
On a side note, I think Daisy has had the most inconsistent design. They’re always changing her but hopefully they’re settling with her new look. But yeah, just wanna say that Daisy was never melanin or black, just had a darker skin tone.
Thank you!
@@dariusbrown7870 no problemo!
Maybe you can give an opinion on my Daisy redesign I fused her old look and her new look
@@Alexrabieta sure. I’d like to see it
You said it correctly, head-canons are fine but this one in particular is annoying because people started to pretend they were always right and using lies to prove it, since no one seems to have played SM Land!
You could argue that Mario Sunshine takes place after Luigi's Mansion... Perhaps Luigi had something to do with all the Boos simultaneously crashing hard on heroin

BRING BACK DAISY'S MELANIN‼️
The running yoshi are hilarious and never get old.
i seriously wish they kept tan daisy atleast😭it would make more sense as well her being a desert princess
I want everyone to take a look at Azalea from Mario Golf: Advance Tour, because I have a conspiracy theory that they wanted to make Daisy more recognizable, so they basically stole Azalea's design and put in on Daisy.
I'm kinda surprised you didn't mention that for whatever reason, Boos went from having a more SMW accurate design in the earlier builds of Super Mario 64 and in the post-N64 games to weirdly enough having blue eyes in the final product of Super Mario 64. That stopped being a thing by the time of the Nintendo Gamecube.
Sunshine designs are above and beyond. Look at the sleeping koopas in that game theyre so cute

@@jackso10iscool if u was mentioning the Tan more Hotter, Now I definitely agree... But the Outfits from the NGC, look Hotter at least for me lol🤷
I much prefer Daisy’s GameCube redesign as it makes her a lot more distinct. The flower motif is more prevelant, her skin is a little lighter (though sometimes people think that she lives in a desert even though Sarasaland has various biomes), and she has a different hairstyle. The way that she’s essentially a retooling of Peach makes her more fitting for Luigi as he was just a palette swapped Mario at first.
That wasn’t King Boo in Sunshine. According to the Japanese version, that character is named Boss Boo.
Sunshine is way to fun, even the designs are so odd that are charming.
Besides the skin color change, I actually like Daisy's redesign
It makes sense lorewise because that's the last we ever see of Sarasaland, so it would make sense for her skin to lighten up as I guess the mushroom kingdom doesn't get as much sun, and I bet Peach got her a traditional mushroom kingdom dress but if Sarasaland ever returns, I am fully expecting her to be back with dark skin and her red crown, maybe her dress could take inspiration from traditional dresses based on the real world inspirations for the four kingdoms of Sarasaland (ancient Egypt, Bermuda, Easter Island, and ancient China)
Daisy is the Tomboy counter part to Peach's Priss
I love the fact that you used Melty blood music in the video's background.
Would you happen to know the name of this specific music track?
I still think that Daisy is prettier being a redhead or brunette with pale skin then being tanned, but that's my opinion.
Boos in Sunshine are like regional variants of Pokemon
Daisy is the more...how do you say.... Voluptuous of the female characters

BRO LOOKS LIKE A CHILL GRANDPA THAT'S STILL SMOKING WEED TO THIS DAY-
Yoshi standing upright was a good decision as he started being used more as an individual character in the 2000’s rather than an accessory to Mario like in the 90’s. He was used a lot in Mario Party, SM64DS, and the sports games and it just looks better seeing him more human-like
Sorta disagree. Hunched over allows him to retain his animality / savagery and being bipedal can still have him act human-like, like his Raging Demon pose in Melee despite being hunched over.
@@AkaiAzul and being more upright makes people riding the yoshis' back awkward. Despite the shell shaddle, it would kinda look like a piggyback ride instead.
@@AkaiAzul I have to disagree with you. Yoshi in being hunched over makes him seem to have less of a personality as he'd be too savage and unintelligent-like there. Yoshi in being upright makes us identify with him more there as he'd be more human-like while still being an anthropomorphic animal (I prefer anthropomorphic animals over regular animals when it comes to specific animal characters that are not pets, farm animals or wild animals; so...).
@@StevenVillman Nothing wrong with disagreements. I know I prefer more realistic critters over Anthros: I feel I can connect better with a talking lion over an anthro one because I see the duality of looking ferocious but being cute and vice versa. Yoshi looking cute and acting cute feels more one dimensional to me than if he had tinges of looking potentially dangerous but is really a sweet heart, even though ironically he's actually super dangerous regardless of design.
@@AkaiAzul yoshi isn’t supposed to be crazy he’s supposed to just be helpful to Mario
Making Daisy more tomboyish, but then making her not be tan at the same time is such a bizarre decision
Even weirder is how it constantly flip flops
Tanned daisy looks better
Sunshine was a one-time experiment for the enemies. they reverted King Boo again to the standard Boo design for Double Dash. but the weird thing is that they use the gold crown and regular Boo for Mario games, but the gemstone crown and creepy shaded eyes for the Luigi's Mansion games, for some reason. it even appears as a separate skin on Mario Kart Tour.
I find Yoshi’s change to be for the better. Same with Daisy; she needed to distinguish herself from Peach
Daisy is the definition of the sentence: "Name a bigger glow up"
