If you are keeping the car for longer than 10 yrs or more than 100k miles, go with Honda. If you trade in your car every 4,5 years, Telluride may give you more luxury interior and new tech.
I have been a big Honda fan. I have bought two new and had them for 17 and 14 years. I went with the Kia for long term. The Pilot has had a lot of issues over the years.
You forgot to mention that Honda dealers don’t have the delusion that Kia ones have about them being the new BMW which justifies their ripping off their customers by thousands of dollars, and I’m not talking about the current situation where many companies are doing it, but since that Tulleride came out. No thank you!
It's telluride's low production numbers and high demand caused it. Didn't happen to pilot or Honda dealership would have done the same. That's how dealerships are, try buying type r from anyone. I bought Kia stinger 5k below MSRP.
I think your last sentence clarifies your point, and/but yeah…I have a ‘23 CR-V Hybrid Sport (AWD) and totally got…I don’t wanna say ripped off cuz I like the car, certainly its above K\H quality and drive….But yeah I did kind of get ripped off.
We have a 2023 Honda pilot trail sport and it is a very nice vehicle. Yes one of the main complaints is that the screen is too small. After having it for a couple weeks now it is not too small it is a very usable and not overwhelming. The car is very comfortable so far
@@kgindpls coming from a 2012 Honda pilot I don't feel that the steering is loose. I feel that the steering wheel has less resistance, it's very soft to turn.
@@al151 We noticed the noise too. My wife said it felt like driving a truck compared to the Traverse or Ascent, which are her favorites. I thought it was fine, but she wasn't wrong, it definitely had more road noise and a firmer ride.
Great comparison: Of note, the reason why you felt the V6 was so much better in the Pilot over the old one is because it is indeed a brand-new engine. It went from a SOHC to DOHC design and that could explain why you felt the engine much smoother/less gritty due to it being much more relaxed. The Honda 10AT is a marvel of a transmission, which helps the vehicle to be more engaging and more refined to drive.
This engine is a slug.... I drove it and it doesn't have nearly the real life feel of torque that you feel in the Telluride.... I floored both, and the Telluride will put you back in the seat.... the Honda speeds up slowly like a golf cart and has this weird 'whine' as the rpm's come back down..... very disconcerting.
@@mcnater Everyone has their own preference..... I can tell you this: I test drove the Honda Pilot and hated it, but I have also found some disconcerting things about the Telluride: Telluride has an OLD SCHOOL engine and transmission.... SERIOUSLY old school. Direct injection with NO PORT INJECTION to clean the valves of carbon buildup..... they also do NOT have hydraulic lifters, so you actually have to take the vehicle in to the shop to get the valves manually spaced/adjusted every so-many miles.... same type of thing I have to do to my lawn mower and my Generac generator. They also have plastic oil filter mounts..... terrible design....and a future point of oil leaks as the plastic degrades. I pulled the plug on my Telluride order..... this is NOT a long term engine/tranny setup.... and I am not going to be a guneia pig for Hyundai/ Loa again.... already have a Santa Fe Ultimate that is part of a class action lawsuit for the failure of 10's of thousands of bad 2.4 and 2.0 turbo engines.... just waiting for mine to implode.
@@BeverlyGill-l2x I frequent the F-150 forums and though direct injection carbon buildup was talked about a lot due to a few UA-camrs, nobody there has shown any actual problem caused by it. Ford sold millions of them before changing to a dual injector setup like my F-150, which has twice as many injectors that can fail. And injectors are kind of prone to failure, relatively speaking. Is that really a better solution? I'm not convinced. The valves, yeah, I was really surprised to hear that. I haven't had to adjust valves in decades.
Great review. These are the exact models I wanted to compare. The Trailsport looks cooler than the elite and has the off-road capability vs the top end telluride is their off-road version.
I’m not surprised. Honda typically does really well with packaging and driver engagement. The Kia has some cooler tech but the Honda’s more flexible interior matters more in a family car and the better driving dynamics make a difference every time you drive. Throw in what will likely be better reliability and it’s an easy call.
@@eg7389for sure. As much as all the toys are great they will eventually break. For example those ventilated seats are $1500 to replace when they break and the Kia has FOUR. Makes it not worth it
@@mintchevvv1834 if they honour it. I know of one of their own dealership mechanics not getting his engine warrantied in less than 1 year of ownership no mods.
@@davewilson7602 The Kia has a far better and much longer warranty both in bumper-to-bumper and drivetrain..... no worries. Honda must not trust its own long term reliability with such a short warranty. And, the Honda is as boring inside as it gets..... diminutive screen in a big screen world.
Exactly my thoughts. Also the two have different target markets IMO for these trims. I'm sorry I'm not paying 50k and not getting it fully loaded. If honda made a Trailsport Elite version that would be one thing but this is not an apples to apples comparison against trims. I'm not getting a 3-row family SUV to ONLY drive offroad. I'll take the slightly higher price tag and way more creature comforts for long hauls and basic everyday commuting any day. This is coming from someone whose owned both a Passport Elite and now a Telluride SX-P X-Pro.
Whew! When he said the Pilot interior felt more luxurious, I felt like he was trolling me. Then he kept saying it and I knew for sure he was paid by Honda. I'm certain the Pilot is a great vehicle, but the interior of the Telluride is much, much nicer.
That’s interesting - I test drove the Y before going with the telluride SX prestige. If you don’t mind me asking, what are some of the reasons your family prefer the telluride over the Y?
I've ridden in a Model Y once (as a Lyft passenger; it was a pretty new vehicle) and I absolutely hated it. The suspension seemed non-existent. I could feel every little bump in the road. And it was really excessively noisy on the inside. The Telluride, on the other hand, rides REALLY smoothly and is quiet as a library.
New Honda Pilot is just a little more reasonably priced for what it offers. I believe that it would’ve been neck and neck with the Telluride but at $ 55,000 and not counting dealer mark ups is just too much for a KIA.
The Telluride doesn't support wireless Android auto, where the Pilot does. So in my eyes, even though the Telluride looks much higher tech, for practical purposes, it falls short.
I would have to agree with your conclusion this new Honda pilot is truly great packaging and pricing. The cherry on top are the configurable second row seating
@@4thawenz Indeed it is not, however, consider the EX-L with your own set of off-road tyres . And I would guess there would be a way to get skidd plates ex factory. I would opt for a little more ex-factory work in exchange for the 8 seats.
@@kgindpls Yeah not sure what Honda was thinking of not including a sunroof with the EX-L. My guess is that they didn't even want to put a standard one in the Pilot at all. It was either Panoroof or nothing. I guess they're getting lazy on making a 2nd roof. Smh. What's next though? A Touring without a Panoroof now? Come on Honda give us more not less for our money. I'm asking for too much huh?
Seems like a Honda commercial- I test drove both and wasn’t wowed by the pilot, it felt Much less luxurious. Everytime he hit the gas in the pilot he said it was so quiet but all I heard was loud engine noise, weird. Both great options for sure
One thing, Kia and Hyundai bigger screens ( except for 8” ) don’t offer wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. May not be a big deal for some, but for me it’s a dealbreaker
I added wireless Carplay to my Kia Soul with a OTTOCAST Wireless Car Adapter. It probably takes 5-10 seconds longer to connect than a car that has wireless Carplay already.
Awesome review...awesome e comparison...totally agree with you. It's all about the drive for me and Honda has that. Major off road improvement for the Pilot.
just upgraded from my Honda Crosstour to the Honda Pilot Elite last month.I love it! my tall people fit perfectly in the 3rd row! I love how the 3rd row seats can recline back. If they chose to sit in the second row, the seats can slide back
A lot of people slept on the Honda Crosstour and it was truly underappreciated. I would say upgrading to the new Pilot might be one of the only ways to upgrade in the Honda line from the drive quality of the Crosstour V6.
Bad news. Third row is still tight. Best space belongs to Chevy Traverse. Cargo behind third row is even bigger than Grand Highlander. If you are going for Pilot vs Telluride, i think Telluride still offers more premium experience.
I'm 6'3" and the first time I sat in the Pilot I was immediately disappointed, because on paper the Pilot checks all the boxes. The seats are so low the only seat where my thighs touched the seat was in the power driver's seat. Even in the passenger seat my knees were in the air, and you have to go all the way up to the Elite to get height adjust in that seat. The other poster is right, despite what the specs say the Traverse feels significantly more spacious and comfortable because the seats are higher off the floor. Though even in the Traverse, there is no way I'd be reasonably comfortable in the 3rd row. It takes a minivan or full size SUV for that. Midsize third rows are for short people or short trips only, IMO.
@@apluspool34 I just read the reply and wonder what issues you had, mine has 105k and the only big item timing belt and water pump, scheduled maintenance after 100k but other than that it’s been a gem.
Great review and agree with your assessment. I test drove a Telluride a couple of years ago. I've also watched just about every review out there on the Telluride. I've driven the previous gen Pilot but not the '23 model yet. For me, the main reasons the Kia is such a hot seller are 1) It's exterior looks (it does stand out and some folks think their driving a Range Rover alternative!). 2) Kia does tech well and people are drawn to all the standard bells and whistles especially on the higher trims. 3) Outstanding interior room, especially in the second row and the interior design is attractive particularly the dash with the latest generation. 4) Longer standard warranty than competition and value (although since 2019 when it launched the top trim SX-PRO has jumped from $46k to low 50k's). Reasons we decided not to buy the Telluride. 1) Front seats are big and roomy but not particularly comfortable, could do with more cushion support in my opinion. I had just test driven a '22 Honda Pilot before the Kia and the seats were noticeably more comfortable in comparison no question for us anyway. 2) Although Kia did a great job making everything look like a luxury interior inside once we started touching the dash trim and some hard surfaces on the doors and around the console the materials for us felt cheap and plasticky. 3) After test driving, we thought it drove more like a minivan than the premium SUV it was aspiring to be! Not particularly engaging to drive like our sport feeling Mazda CX-9 but fine like a minivan. Overall, we came away feeling like it just looks more upscale than it really is, inside and out, for us didn't find the front seats as comfy as we'd like, and the driving experience was fine but again not even close to the driving dynamics of our Mazda. The Honda has its pluses and minuses too for me. Have to test drive it yet. The transmission with the new 10 speed seems to be smoother this year, I think mechanically and dynamically it's a better overall vehicle than the Kia if that matters. I'm not a mechanic but most reviews I've watched and read so far are leaning that way. It's also a fair assumption from the reviews I've watched that the Pilot is the more engaging driving experience but not as nimble or sporty as the Mazda CX-9 for reference. I'd also assume the seats are more comfortable in the Honda, and any reviews I've watched were impressed with the seat comfort. I think the Telluride is the more appealing vehicle to look at inside and out although the new Pilot is definitely an improvement over the minivan-like previous gen. The pilot would be more appealing with the bigger touchscreen found in the new accord. Also, Kia offers a better range of interior colors and for their "off-road" SX-PRO X LINE you don't have to settle for just black leather like in the Pilot. Lastly, if I was to buy the new Pilot and wanted the Trailsport Pilot I wish they had offered it like the Telluride as an add-on package instead of a trim. You could get the Elite Trailport trim then like the SX-PRO X LINE both about 55k and include features like the Bose speaker system, ventilated front seats, full digital instrument cluster, HUD, other interior color options. All these are not standard or an option on the Trailport.
Great analysis! definitely agree on how much the Kia telluride is above in customization. They had some great interior color options, as well as exterior. We have a 2019 pilot and I agree when we test drove back then the pilot was more comfortable seat wise. Another big selling point is the pilot has Apple/android wireless connect. I had to test drive the new Kia XPro to see.
You nailed it. For me, I need an Elite Trailsport, which they don't offer. And a hybrid engine would really push me over to Honda. As things stand, I'm waiting on the Grand Highlander as it checks most of the boxes for me, minus the off-road chops.
@@timgriffith2995 Thx. We're in the same boat. For us it's probably going to be the Pilot or new Grand Highlander. The Pilot's V6 with its smooth 10 speed is enticing. The Toyota's electrified 4 cylinder puts out big torque and HP numbers (2.4L Hybrid Max Engine) and looks like it will have the quickest acceleration of non-luxury 3-rows. Although the new CX-90 may be close too with its new in-line V6. I've watched some video reviews on Toyota's new Crown sedan with the Hybrid Max Engine and it looks impressive. Don't think it will sound as good as a V6 or in-line 6 and I've no idea how it's reliability will be. I think it will be late April or May before we see any on-line driving impressions from auto journalists. The Grand Highlander definitely looks better to my eye and offers more space and features than the current Highlander and it will be interesting to see how it drives in a couple of months.
@@kgindpls Appreciate that. For me, a couple of more interior color choices for the Trailsport trim along with front ventilated seats and the larger touchscreen from the new accord would be just about perfect at this price point. I could live without the HUD, premium sound system and full digital gauge cluster at 50k. But if they included all features from the Elite trim with more interior color choices for the Trailsport and offered it as an Elite Trailpsort trim I'd buy it at 55k (more of a direct competitor to Telluride SX-PRO X-LINE)
I think the rear taillights on the pilot looks very 80's and so does the dashboard. Honda hasn't been doing real well in the design department for years now.
The refreshed kia telluride is good but somehow the older model looks premium. May be the amber lights or I am not sure. New Honda Pilot is definitely better looking right now.
The Pilot is for people who like nice things because the appreciate the value it brings to them because the enjoy the day to day quality experience you get. The Kia is for people who like nice things for looks primarily and don’t appreciate the day to day quality experience but rather the day to day perception of their car by others. Both are good but in different ways and for different people.
Kia interior competes with Mercedes and Audi and feels luxurious… Honda interior is a joke and seats are thin and Cardbordy with and outdated small display screen… Other than looks of the Honda. It’s not worth 50k at all… Everything beats it… I test drive a trail sport one recently and wasn’t impress at all with the interior.. Honda really needs to offer a Hybrid Pilot. The fuel efficiency is not great for a 2023 model. It hasn't improved in 10 years. To meet future CAFE standards, it will have to hybridize the J35. Honda has said the new J35 will be EPA compliant until 2030. A 12.3" screen, and review-view monitor would also be necessary on the Elite.
Totally agree. I’ve got the same gas mileage on my 2015 Honda Pilot, 17 mpg city, close to 24 mpg highway. As much as I like updated look and tech in this 2023 model, it makes it a no go for me as an upgrade.
One major advantage Honda has over Kia: Engine fire risks do not go hand-in-hand with Honda cars. This is why Honda has a higher resale value. Look up Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis recalls and you will see the yearly recalls that occur from engine fires as per federal mandates.
Well Kia/Hyundai do have a bad rep lol. They’re engines are absolute trash for example. And the all wheel drive system on the telluride cannot even compete with Honda’s. The Honda is more reliable, handles better, and is just better overall 🤷
This review was near perfect. The only problem I have with this review and a lot of other reviews as well, is that when they show you how much room they have in the second row seats they don’t tell you how tall they are so you can get a better feel of how much room there actual is. Also they never tell you if the second row seats recline or not, or if they do they don’t show how much of a recline there getting, or whether the recline is more than the average automobile gets. Please include this small info in all your coming reviews. Other then that, awesome review. Thanks!!!
We'll keep that all in mind, thank you Peter. I'm 5'11" and the seats in both recline, maybe 10 degrees. There is usually no factory measurement for recline.
I watched a separate review and a 6'2' reviewer sat in the third row of the Honda Pilot and easily had 4" of space over his head. CarGuys has another review comparing the Teluride and the Hyundai Palisade and they do show sitting in the second and third rows.

Pilot is lack of many safety features that Telluride has, and that's what makes the price difference. Pilot looks outdated to me in many aspects. I still think Telluride values better. Both are good SUV though. Can't go wrong with either one.
Width between the wheel wells? Can you fit 2 dog boxes or a sheet of plywood inside (48")? Location of spare tire underneath vehicle or easy access inside vehicle? Lights that can be turned on manually? Door locks that can be unlocked manually?
I am still not sure which one to get between pilot and palisade (twin of telluride) SEL premium. Palisade had slightly more leg room, roof vent and other creature comforts for passengers. Honda does offer many things over it but I would be driving BRZ daily, would probably get AWD EV for shorter trips (snowboarding, biking etc) nearby and 3rd pilot or palisade for road trips and when friends or family visit. So I am not concerned about handling and having fun as it would be covered by BRZ.
@@curiosityredpill7030 that inline 6 indeed is attractive but then again only reason I am getting larger vehicle is for space. I would still have 2 smaller cars, 2023 BRZ and 2019 stinger (or it's similar replacement) for most of the time. I am thinking about 2g sequoia instead of all of these due to width of 2nd row.
I think the Pilot is a better choice, however the Trailsport lacks some options. For one, you can't get premium audio in the Trailsport. Charge me $500 for it! Second, all SUVs need a rearview camera.
Excellent review: KIA is pricing itself out of this category. KIA has a better warranty, however, I feel that Honda will have a higher resale value down the road. KIA dealers are marking these up ridiculously! In some markets by $5-$8K. This market will crash. KIA-you had a good thing going offering a great SUV for the price, and now you're getting greedy. Honda, nice job coming into the market priced fairly, offering a great SUV for the price. Would like to see better mpg for each. Good luck finding each at these close to M.S.R.P.
Every dealer is marking everything up. These cars are about as plain as cars get. They're not special or unique or rare. Not to mention, Kia already state it will be building sufficient cars so that there won't be any shortage like the past year. Even MSRP is a hefty profit. Anything more is just dealer gouging. Walk away.
I checked with one Honda dealership yesterday. The dealer was asking for $8,100 more on top of MSRP ($5,000 market adjustment + $3,100 dealer fit accessories).
A good comparison, if I am not wrong this the first comparison between these two cars for 2023, although I feel some bias against Kia in favor of Honda, specially in driving impressions

Stop complaining about dealer markup. It has been markup almost everywhere during the pandemic and chip shortage but not all dealers have markups. If you pay the markup, that's your problem. I have my Telluride @ MSRP.
This is a confusing review. You say you prefer the panoramic moonroof and like the seats better in the Pilot, but then you say the moonroof is better in the Telluride and the seats feel better than the Pilot.
I think it's obvious why he found the Telluride 2nd row more comfortable...the seats are higher. The first time I sat in the new Pilot I was surprised at how low they were. And you have to go all the way up to the Elite to get height adjustment on the passenger side. At 6'3" and with teenage kids, that was a dealbreaker for me. Low seats mean no thigh support which is torture on long drives. I suspect they did it to game the capacity numbers, since there's plenty of headroom to make them higher. If you get in a Traverse after the Pilot it is immediately apparent that the Traverse offers more useable passenger space and comfort, regardless of what the specs claim. That's why it's so important to go out and drive them yourself.
Easy win for the Telluride, looks more classy/premium. The Pilot looks very bland, like a Civic. And that interior/infotainment in the Pilot it's a shame, it looks like it belongs to a car from the 90's smh. Although I think the previous generation of the Telluride looked more serious/better than this one IMO...
And I agree with somebody else, even though I like the Honda, this seems like a paid promotion. Didn’t mention the rear digital mirror and this doesn’t have a Bose sound system in it either. That was the most lopsided review 😂😂 after finishing it. Also, the Kia compared in the video isn’t Apples to Apples, bc the Trailsport isn’t the top trim while this Kia is. Need to mention pricing of Elite too. The sound acoustics are interesting. It seems to me that they are very similar and all the other reviews too…

I'm really pissed in where I'm from the pilot is unavailable and the highlander is way overpriced. We want a midsize SUV (2 or 3 rows) that's very comfortable and quiet, and decently reliable to keep for 10 years or sth. What would you recommend?
The honda is more quiet because of active noise cancelling and less engine vibration from adaptive engine mounts. Also, the numbers listed of storage space are the previous gen pilot. Otherwise, great overview. Thanks!
It’s kinda ridiculous to put so much emphasis on off-road capability as these things hardly ever go off-road. Additionally, its also unfair to compare a lower trim model Honda with the highest trim level Te;llruide and then say the Telluride is over-priced. The top model Elite trim on the Honda is much closer to the Tellruide X-Pro SX Prestige trim that was tested here. Also, the one-level down X-Line Tellruide is identical to the X-Pro expect it has the 20” all-seasons instead of the 18” off-road tires and is only missing a transmission cooler and a second 110v outlet. It is exactly $1,000 less than the X-Pro. This is the better value in my book.
@@inttruders I could see your point if these were true off-road versions. We all know that they are 90% appearance packages with all-terrain tires. The other 10% is the skid plate package on the Pilot and the .4” lift and recalibrated traction control system on the Telluride. That 10% difference from other Pilot and Telluride models does not warrant such emphasis on off-road capabilities regardless of how the manufacturers are marketing them. Don’t fall for the off-road marketing hype especially when doing so, requires you to compare a mid-trim level Pilot with a top trim level Telluride which is not apples-to-apples. At the end of the review, the reviewer made a big deal about the price discrepancy between the two and that is just not fair unless he also listed out all of the extra features you are getting on the Telluride. The facts are that the SELLERs (whether they be the manufacturer or the dealers) do NOT set the price or the value of the cars they sell. In a free market economy, the BUYERS always set the price. If buyers are willing to pay a price, then that is the fair market price of the vehicle. If buyers are not willing to pay the asking price, then the seller won’t sell cars and the asking price will have to be lowered. So for the reviewer to imply that the Kia is not priced well is false and the facts back that up. The Telluride has been selling at or above MSRP since it came out. The market of buyers are supporting the higher price point because they still see the right balance of features and price even if that price is higher than some arbitrary MSRP. And, if you think that Honda dealers are somehow charitable and altruistic enough not to sell the new 2023 Pilot for MSRP or above, you are fooling yourself. There will be markups on the Pilot if the demand is there. I’m not knocking the Pilot. I bought the original 2003 Pilot in December of 2002. I have had 4 other Hondas and they were great cars. But my main issue with this review is the unwarranted emphasis on off-road capabilities (falling for the marketing hype even though practically no one is buying this to take off-road) and also comparing a mid-trim level Pilot with the top trim level Telluride and then coming to the conclusion that the Telluride is priced too high. It’s just bad analysis. Compare the top trim Pilot to the similarly-priced top trim Telluride and then you will have more credibility.
@@4thawenz The Telluride is but they sell it as an off-road version. The Trailsport is actually pretty capable. Again, that is not the point. The point is that they are being sold that way so evaluating them on what the manufacturers claim they can do is totally fair.
@@inttruders They are pretty equal. Equally capable and equally limited as off-roaders. Not exactly the same but within hair-splitting difference. What would have been fair would have been a matchup between the lower-spec SX X-Pro Telluride instead of the highest spec SX Prestige X-Pro. Kia offers its “off-road” X-Pro package on 3 different trim levels which is a big advantage over Honda’s single choice. .The budget EX X-Pro, the mid-tier SX X-Pro, and the top tier SX Prestige X-Pro gives buyers more options. The EX is much cheaper than the TrailSport, the SX is only $1,500 more than the TrailSport (with extra luxuries for the price). If anything, pricing is a Kia advantage as opposed to the negative that the reviewer emphasized. The unfairness of the matchup price-wise (without allowing for much consideration of the extra features you get on the Telluride) is the biggest part of my dissatisfaction with this review. Not as much the off-road emphasis. Although I do still think that no one should be taking these $50k vehicles on anything worse than a gravel road. If you do, your chances of making it all the way are slim. Approach and departure angles being one of the biggest limiting factors. As front-wheel drive based models with laterally mounted engines, there is just way too much front overhang.
@@inttruders Let’s also acknowledge that everything that the reviewer did to evaluate their ‘off-road’ capabilities could also have been completed successfully with the other ‘non-off-road’ variants of each make. There was no real “off-road” challenge presented in this review. He drove on a hard-packed snow path. Even all-season 20” tires could have done that.
If you are keeping the car for longer than 10 yrs or more than 100k miles, go with Honda. If you trade in your car every 4,5 years, Telluride may give you more luxury interior and new tech.
Uh wrong
Bingo!
That’s a lazy take. And highly subjective considering the Telluride has only existed for 3 years.
I have been a big Honda fan. I have bought two new and had them for 17 and 14 years. I went with the Kia for long term. The Pilot has had a lot of issues over the years.
Kia != luxury... at all..
You forgot to mention that Honda dealers don’t have the delusion that Kia ones have about them being the new BMW which justifies their ripping off their customers by thousands of dollars, and I’m not talking about the current situation where many companies are doing it, but since that Tulleride came out. No thank you!
Cry some more. Dealers do that because people are stupid enough to pay it.
This is area dependent because every Honda dealer in my area are the absolute worst.
Kia and Hyundai are notorious for mark ups, and it’s been that way for a few years. 🤦🏼♂️ I’d pick the Honda any day.
Don’t you think the steering is a little bit loose? But definitely not a dealbreaker. Still drives really nice.
@@kgindpls coming from a 2012 Honda pilot I don't feel that the steering is loose. I feel that the steering wheel has less resistance, it's very soft to turn.
Lots of road noise and the Elite model doesn’t offer blueray player anymore.
@@al151 We noticed the noise too. My wife said it felt like driving a truck compared to the Traverse or Ascent, which are her favorites. I thought it was fine, but she wasn't wrong, it definitely had more road noise and a firmer ride.
@@al151 Coming from a Jeep Grand Cherokee, my 2024 Pilot Trailsport seems much quieter (I had the same tires on the GC).
Great comparison: Of note, the reason why you felt the V6 was so much better in the Pilot over the old one is because it is indeed a brand-new engine. It went from a SOHC to DOHC design and that could explain why you felt the engine much smoother/less gritty due to it being much more relaxed. The Honda 10AT is a marvel of a transmission, which helps the vehicle to be more engaging and more refined to drive.
my 2017 pilot is super smooth...not sure what he was talking about with that.
@@BeverlyGill-l2x have to disagree and I’ve driven both
@@mcnater Everyone has their own preference..... I can tell you this: I test drove the Honda Pilot and hated it, but I have also found some disconcerting things about the Telluride:
Telluride has an OLD SCHOOL engine and transmission....

With the Honda, not so much tech that will fail and cost a fortune to repair after warranty ends.

Feels like a Honda commercial. I've owned both as family cars and both were very nice.
Not just me then.
yeah this felt sponsored by honda
I liked how you put them side to side and put the specs of them on top, it's so easier to compare
And what about his dual matching sweater? How many points you give him for that?
I totally agree.
Beautiful editing for sure. Well done!
I own a Tesla Model y and a Kia Telluride. My wife and two daughters love the Kia Telluride even more.
That’s interesting - I test drove the Y before going with the telluride SX prestige. If you don’t mind me asking, what are some of the reasons your family prefer the telluride over the Y?
@@playnamz78 probably higher quality better reliability and better tech
I've ridden in a Model Y once (as a Lyft passenger; it was a pretty new vehicle) and I absolutely hated it. The suspension seemed non-existent. I could feel every little bump in the road. And it was really excessively noisy on the inside. The Telluride, on the other hand, rides REALLY smoothly and is quiet as a library.
Not saying much, Tesla has terrible build quality and is NOT a luxury car. 🤷♂️
Stop comparing the model Y to the Telluride, not the same in any way for it to be compared.
New Honda Pilot is just a little more reasonably priced for what it offers. I believe that it would’ve been neck and neck with the Telluride but at $ 55,000 and not counting dealer mark ups is just too much for a KIA.
Similarly equipped telluride is cheaper than pilot.
Cx90 I would say maybe a complete better choice

I like the trail sport a lot but I would want it fully loaded, they should make a elite trail sport
The Telluride doesn't support wireless Android auto, where the Pilot does. So in my eyes, even though the Telluride looks much higher tech, for practical purposes, it falls short.
I believe the Honda Pilot will be a better SUV long term even though the Telluride isn't a bad option at all.

One thing, Kia and Hyundai bigger screens ( except for 8” ) don’t offer wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. May not be a big deal for some, but for me it’s a dealbreaker
If a car offers wireless charge but no wireless CarPlay that should be a crime.
I added wireless Carplay to my Kia Soul with a OTTOCAST Wireless Car Adapter. It probably takes 5-10 seconds longer to connect than a car that has wireless Carplay already.
Wire connection is a big deal for you ? Wow

The Midnight Lake Blue on the Telluride 👌🏿
just upgraded from my Honda Crosstour to the Honda Pilot Elite last month.I love it! my tall people fit perfectly in the 3rd row!
Lets not exaggerate. No 3rd row will comfortably seat a six footer even in a full-size SUV. Short trips maybe.
Bad news. Third row is still tight. Best space belongs to Chevy Traverse. Cargo behind third row is even bigger than Grand Highlander. If you are going for Pilot vs Telluride, i think Telluride still offers more premium experience.
Good choice. At least you didn’t get a KIA/Hyundai 😂👍
Own a 2012 Honda Pilot and still going strong, I’ll take Honda over most brands any day.
We just got rid of our 2012 Honda pilot for a new trail sport. We had a fair amount of issues with the 2012 but it went $170,000 miles for us.

@@freddyvazquez2865 One week after owning we had the transmission go out. I put three alternators one starter in various other little items.
Very nice video! Straightforward and clear, the review is very fair! Great image quality and camera movement too! I love that

The Pilot is for people who like nice things because the appreciate the value it brings to them because the enjoy the day to day quality experience you get.
Easy win for the Pilot, best three row SUV out there.
I think the Pilot is a better choice, however the Trailsport lacks some options. For one, you can't get premium audio in the Trailsport. Charge me $500 for it! Second, all SUVs need a rearview camera.
If it’s any consolation, the base audio in the pilots is pretty good to my ear. That said, 50k and they can’t give you Bose???
Agreed. Would be nice to get premium audio and heated 2nd row seats in the Trailsport trim.
It's not F Kia it's the dealer u dummy
How tall are you? just for referring to the size of cars
Kia telluride is better but the pilot is the safest most pragmatic bet
But both are so much better than the upcoming grand highlander
A good comparison, if I am not wrong this the first comparison between these two cars for 2023, although I feel some bias against Kia in favor of Honda, specially in driving impressions
I’ve driven both. Honda definitely drives with more engagement, although I can’t say he doesn’t have bias. That part at least is right though
@@davewilson7602 I watched dozens of videos talking about smooth driving in Telluride and it is the best in its class. One of these videos on this channel. I don't own either of these cars, but I am looking for a fair opinion to make the right decision.
The opposite opinion: ua-cam.com/video/PoNRoL9Y_nc/v-deo.html
@@Omar-cb8og it drives very smoothly, but it handles more like a Buick if that makes sense? It’s very soft and cushy if that’s what you’re looking for
@@Omar-cb8og Not any more. I have watched the review you posted they said it was pretty even but if you want a vehicle that handle going off road get a Trailsport.
@@Omar-cb8og Something driving smoothly isn't the same as something being engaging to drive. For some people smooth is all they want but some people want a car that doesn't handle like a couch.
Honda didn’t improve the V-6 engine. It is a completely new engine. No more VTEC and dual overhead cams.
*it went from SOHC to DOHC.
Pilot interior is more premium than telluride? This is the first of dozens reviews taking that position.
In terms of material quality, yes. Design, no.
they must be on a bomb one to think that honda is nicer .
Was waiting for this video. Car gurus are tops to me for car reviewers. Particularly this gentleman. Wife has the 2023 palisade calligraphy, I’m looking at that SX Pro 😎
Enjoyed your analysis sir. Thank you
I have a 2022 telluride got lots of room love it but I like this Honda too , I went to one of the dealers can’t believe $51000 base price and they add $12000 , final price $63000 really speechless
You’re making that up!
@@ejohnson3131 I wish this is a make up story and this is reality that how Texas dealer do, the dealership is called Big Star Honda and right now I am still waiting for another dealer to give me the final price for Pilot Touring. Buy a new car in Texas is really crazy! FYI I did filed complaint to BBB because it is not right!
@@libbysheets9449 yeah, thats not right! $12,000 markup? That’s insane!
What model were looking at?
@Squid Usn finally I purchased a white touring of course add on around $5000
Honda is putting their money into the Engineering, from suspension, AWD system, and new V6 engine.
Hyundai and Kia are putting their money into making their interior look like Audi and BMW.
Def agree. Great comparison. How do you guys talk so clearly without messing up.
Could editing and several several takes
So... you compared the highest model of Telluride to a lower version of the Pilot?
Just love the styling of the Telluride!!!!
That's how car review work great works thanks and someone please send or share this videos to Edmund's people they have to learn how to review cars thanks man
Kia no question, better interior design, tech, materials and 10 year 100k mile warranty.
That removable middle seat and hugely deep cargo well make more of a difference in a family car than a bigger screen.
Hope you enjoy dealer markups. You're going to spend $10,000 to $20,000 over MSRP.
Read the very fine print in that Kia warranty.
Way better interior and exterior designs. Easy win for Telluride by just seeing the video.
Stop complaining about dealer markup. It has been markup almost everywhere during the pandemic and chip shortage but not all dealers have markups. If you pay the markup, that's your problem. I have my Telluride @ MSRP.
Will the Kia last as long as a 4runner?
A mechanical speedo would be nice if the screens go out you could drive to a dealer skip the tow truck
You need to compare the stereos which is something almost everyone uses everyday, the off road stuff will seldom or never be used.
Why would ANYONE who is buying a Trailsport care more about the sound system than the off road stuff? Sounds like a rhinestone cowboy talking.
Great Comparison, frankly could be happy with either though prefer the looks of the Telluride. That said, Kia WARRANTY for the win!
pilot. anytime. anyday. can’t beat that i-vtm4.
75% of the torque can go to the rear in the trailsport. the rest of the pilots with awd can send 70% rear.
Why not 100% instead?
Just brought a 2023 pilot elite love it!! Would definitely recommend it!! 🥰
Either one is a great choice for long term joy and reliability.
Easy win...if road manners don't matter.
I like the Honda ride, one thing I did notice when I test drove it was the steering wheel was somewhat loose
It seems to me that they are very similar and all the other reviews too…
@@kgindpls Several other reviewers have mentioned the x pro is louder than the other Telluride trims.
Should be 38 to 43 k max. Stuck with black interior too
I'd take the Honda.
But the KIA is still the best looking in the class.
Especially inside. A full class above Honda.
Not with that new grill.
Telluride I pick 😊😊😊😊
I think the new telluride head lights look so bad. I have a 2020 SX headlights stand out in a crowd. All changes from 2020 are cosmetic. Get a older one if you can.
excellent review - just bought the 2023 Elite and it's a fantastic car compared to the previous model. I'd also looked at the Telluride, which is also a beautiful car, but you can't beat Honda's I-VTM4
Excellent review!
Thank you
👍👍👍👍👍
Honda does not give more behind the 2nd row, the seats go back more on telluride which is a pro.
Good for Honda. Now all competitors will have to make their SUV better1
I'm really pissed in where I'm from the pilot is unavailable and the highlander is way overpriced.
We want a midsize SUV (2 or 3 rows) that's very comfortable and quiet, and decently reliable to keep for 10 years or sth. What would you recommend?
Travel for it.
Acura RDX? Not 100% sure about the reliability and I don't know if you want a luxury brand.
@Bryan Alvarado I could get an RDX but it has zero support, and I'd have to order parts from other countries if I ever find myself needing one.
@@zhiyako4032 Oh okay. I did not know that. Toyota Venza/Harrier?
The honda is more quiet because of active noise cancelling and less engine vibration from adaptive engine mounts. Also, the numbers listed of storage space are the previous gen pilot. Otherwise, great overview. Thanks!
It looks like nothing else Hondas made? Try a extended inflated cross tour 😂😅
Great review on both vehicles.
Appreciated the info concerning the new Pilot but the review felt pretty Honda biased 😂. Both are nice in their own way
It’s kinda ridiculous to put so much emphasis on off-road capability as these things hardly ever go off-road.
These are the off road versions of these vehicles. It is completely fair to emphasis that part.
Honda driving with no single problem. Hats off to Honda
