Fun fact: the monster with the highest defense in FFIX is a special script for a friendly Yan (255). The monster with the highest defense (that you actually fight) is the Tonberry (35).
Yeah, I noticed that the average of strength and spirit would lower damage potential when I saw the formula on the wiki, but wasn't sure up until now. Useful stuff.
Description: "We get crunchy and look into how damage breaks down in the final mainline Final Fantasy to use ATB!" So are we just gonna pretend Final Fantasy X-2 doesn't exist? It's not a spinoff, it's also mainline.
@@lost-worlds I'd argue for lightning returns as it still uses the the main battle gimmick from XIII and XIII-2, the atb bar and the stagger system. in lightning returns however, instead of commando and ravager, it's two different outfits for your physical and magic damage. Reverent wings and dirge of cerberus have completely different styles of gameplay. revenant is a tactical rpg and dirge is a third person shooter with rpg elements. In Lightning returns, things may look and play a bit different, but the idea of the battle system is still the same, find a way to stagger the enemy and then beat the crap outta them. FFX-2 uses alot of gameplay elements from mainline games, like atb, battle interface, and job classes. yeah it uses a different style compared to the last game, but it's still mainline final fantasy to the core. I feel like discrediting some final fantasy games to not be mainline just cause it's not the next a direct number is a bit to narrow of a perspective. Personally I'd consider things like ff4 the after years, X-2. XIII-2, and lightning returns mainline because they still hold true to the roots of the game, but also the series. Also, something something Wikipedia isn't a reliable source.
@@thethunderspirt87 No one's discrediting anything by not calling X-2 a mainline title, we're just calling things by what they are. Only the numbered core entries are mainline, it's been that way for decades; these titles have protracted development times and budgets big enough to fund a small country backing them. X-2 was a quick asset flip that filled a release gap, it was never given the same kind of dev cycle that X, XI, and XII had. The After Years is an even harder case to make--an episodic cell phone game rushed out onto the iMode market to capitalize on the garakei craze. If the gameplay decided what's mainline and what isn't, World of Final Fantasy would be mainline and XI through XVI would be spinoffs. There's no consistent gameplay that defines what an FF title is, just a bucket of mascots and symbols that get painted on different unrelated titles. The mainline/spinoff distinction itself is entirely down to marketing, budgets, and dev cycles; just look at how Secret of Mana and Xenogears both started development as mainline Final Fantasy games before getting partitioned off into entirely different brands, or how Versus XIII became XV by becoming too expensive not to be. Entries like Lightning Returns end up under an umbrella subseries like Fabula Nova Crystallis or Ivalice Alliance. They're part of a franchise period, while mainline games establish those periods for different teams to develop games under.
I guess my definition in final fantasy of what's mainline is if it continues to plot of a previous final fantasy game, while also playing similarly to said game it's continuing. if it does one without the other, it's a spinoff, at least in my eyes. I never really considered things like marketing or dev cycles.
You can easily reach the damage cap around the end of the game with Steiner, Freya, Amarant using physical attacks. Vivi lags behind their damage potential at the end of the game while having worse HP. As an example, Freya can equip a Holy Lance, and Rebirth Ring or Goddess Earrings, Killer abilities and possibly MP Attack support skills and you have yourself a damage cap hitter fairly easily. She will at least match Vivi's damage output, but she can also heal with Chemist, or apply Regen on everyone. Vivi is similar to Sabin. At some point in the game high damage becomes attainable to everyone and he has little besides that while in general being more frail. By not discussing strategies to enhance physical attacks, you have made magic look better than it is
This video is focused on the damage formulas, it barely scratches equipment and going into overall party strategy would stretch it out to be much longer. Regarding Vivi's magic, across all four discs it contributes more to the party, which makes it easier to go straight into the endgame with the least preparation. For damage capping in the endgame, which characters you go with depends on how much work you're willing to invest in each of them, and what kinds of grinding you're putting on the table. Freya and Amarant's availability throughout IX leaves them in a poor position late-game; they just don't have as many opportunities to gain AP as Steiner and Vivi, so you spend more time getting them up to speed on the status-block, killer abilities, and the rest. You can have the Black Robe as soon as you can reach Daguerreo, and that's effectively an all-in-one deal for Vivi's cap. He doesn't require the same time investment as the other characters, which is what makes him the most accessible.
@@lost-worlds An all Physical attacker party is literally what speedruns of the game. Partially because of the combination of the right Killer ability(most endgame enemies are cosidered either fiends or birds) with MP Attack, and Steiner's Charge! sword art.
It’s not that bad a pronunciation versus Gizamaluke earlier in the video. The primary stress is on the first syllable and the secondary on the last. But I want to say that he emphasized one of the middle syllables. It’s fine though because he’s an individual that’s more about logic and people that are good at logic aren’t particularly good at language typically. They often have issues with letter sequencing like dyslexia

Ok. I'd love to see more videos like this. Are you doing any more?
Can you make explain Damage Formula for Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance & Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2?
This is amazing content!
Greatly appreciate it.

It's no more mainline than Lightning Returns, Revenant Wings, or Dirge of Cerberus: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Final_Fantasy_video_games

You can break this limit with hades workshop
Ok I'm really annoyed. I can't find the damage calculations for summons anywhere on the internet including this video which I've watched three times

"Beast-eye-airie" holy fucking hell, I thought "jag-yew-eye-ars" (jaguars) was the worst butchering of a word I have ever heard........
