    Pretty interesting!! The fact you have done this before is worth a ton. Some people are just afraid that they will break something.

      Thanks, the first time, I had directions and Steven had printed them out for this time, but it was pretty straightforward. The funny thing was I gave the in-between guy all the books and manuals and he didn't have them for Steven, he said he was going to return them to me, which was weird and also it hadn't happened yet.

    Thank you for making this vid! I got a parts rear end with a pto in it and haven't wanted to take my tractor apart yet. This made it look pretty manageable. I havent seen another video that broke it down like this.

      Ha, that's how I started posting videos originally. I'd go to UA-cam when I wanted to learn something and if I couldn't find it , I'd do a video. Wish I understood the whole UA-cam thing way back than.....as if I truly understand it now.

      You are welcome man, glad I could help. The 3 point will be much cheaper and more useful in my opinion, the rear PTO is very pricey and you will only get so much use. In fact, I never really used it and my buddy Steven hasn't either. Thanks for watching.

      @@trw_53 The rear PTO kit can come in varying degrees of completeness. Ones with just the hardware, but no switch, or it doesn't have a guard, maybe one missing a lever, who knows. When you examine a kit for sale, just make sure it comes with all the required part. Have the seller provide proof of all parts if possible. You can use them for tillers, a flail mower, finish mower and maybe even a stump grinder along with other equipment, but they are still small tractors. My PTO kit was complete. If you don't find a complete one, it's not necessarily something you should pass on if you can source the missing parts. Just make sure you are paying a discounted rate.

    Great video. I was just curios on how you aquired a rear PTO for the 445 (maybe it was factory installed) because i want to install one on my 445 but i just cant seem to find one that would be compatable.

      I got mine through someone on eBay when it popped up for about $650, which seems super cheap now, but was probably about average, maybe a hair less than average at the time. It came complete with everything, which was good, you have to understand and make sure that you get the entire unit and not just part of it. Some units are sold as partials, Meaning they may come with most of the stuff, but may be missing say, the shield or a wiring harness. You want to try to get the whole things as tracking down more parts could be both difficult and expensive. But as you can assume about what I've said so far, they are NLA from Deere, so you will likely have to find a nice used one like I did. They are out there, you just have to be patient and have your checkbook handy. Another way to come upon one is finding a tractor with one already on it. Maybe the tractor is beat up. In that case you can buy the tractor, sell it for whatever and yank the PTO and put it on yours if you get a good enough deal. And no, the ones for the X series will not work unfortunately. Thanks for watching. My buddy Thomas, who often comments on my video, usually poor attempts at comedy🤣, buys and sells tractors and parts through his company Vintage Green Iron. I'll see what he has available, they usually go quickly, but you never know.

    Hi ya everyone....... I’m looking for any advice.........please....🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
    I have a JD 455 with clam collector on the back.... I’ve been having problems with the clutch slipping well I think it is?? When the drive is put in it barely turns the blades or collector, it seems to sort of generally sort of brushes the grass with no power there but the engine is running fine and the all other hydraulics steering deck lift back forth??
    Had a solenoid switch of which is opening and closing....???
    ANY IDEAS GREATFULLY RECEIVED THANKS

    Great how to video on the PTO swap. How do you like the R4 tires on the 455?

    • @FloridaDeere
      @FloridaDeere  3 роки тому +1

      To be honest, I liked the HDAP's better. However, I do have R4's on my 1023E, but may go to Versa Turfs or the HDAP's when the time comes. I don't hate R4's as much as some hate on them, but they aren't the perfect tire either.

    You didn't explain how the shaft goes in. I bought a 425 with a PTO, but no male to male shaft in it.

    • @FloridaDeere
      @FloridaDeere  7 місяців тому +1

      So, the shaft is actually an extra believe it or not and not a cheap one. It's just a ball press and release. If you slide the stubby into the PTO, it will click and it's in there, no more difficult than that. I hope that clears it up. Thanks for watching.

    • @FloridaDeere
      @FloridaDeere  3 роки тому +1

      They come up on eBay every now and then. If you are really lucky, you may stumble upon one on a parts or resale tractor. They go from $600 to maybe past $1000. The older 300 series rear PTO, which is generally worthless is not over $1100-1400 on eBay. I say worthless because there aren't many 2000 rpm attachments, as opposed to 540 rpm attachments. Thanks for watching.

    What part number is this for the 455?

    • @FloridaDeere
      @FloridaDeere  8 місяців тому

      Honestly I'm not sure, but it is a NLA part, so you'd have to find a used one on eBay most likely or with a great deal of luck stumble upon one on a tractor for sale. And they don't come cheap, I'd expect to pay over $1000.

      Ugh, hard to say, I had not experienced that issue myself, at least not on that tractor. I did just have a minor issue on a diverter valve on my 1023's third function. A few taps with a brass hammer fixed that. I find the hammer works for a lot of things if used gently. Thanks for watching.

      @@FloridaDeere yea i stumble on this one in a trade . i got it home put some new fluids an filter in it . turn the key an she fired right up no smoke no blow by no nothing .
      beside needing new tire's side panels an a hood . couple oil ring's in the rear end replaced due to leaking .
      one thing has me stumped atm is the PTO. every where i looked people say i might have a cut in a oil ring behind the back plate . that engages the Pto . i took the deck off it to sand it down to repaint it.
      I was going to sell it . but i don't know much about it to even say what it could go for .
      like you said. it is a very good mower cuts very good . i might not do a full restore on it. i might just fix the problems it has an just sell it to some one who wants to fully restores it ;)

      I just got a 455 all wheel steer myself. Got it free because the previous owner put gas in it and it started making funny noises. (imagine that) Well, Changed the oil and flushed the fuel system and the engine sounds great. Rest of the machine needs work. Deck lift cylinder leaking bad and deck not lifting. Pulling the deck tomorrow and EVERYTHING is getting greased. Thinking hard about putting oil and temp gauges on it because it already looks like hell so why not?

    You could have just swapped the differentials.

    • @FloridaDeere
      @FloridaDeere  3 роки тому +1

      It's funny you say that, his 455 has 4XX hours, my old 445, his now and now sold again had over 1030 hours, so he opted to keep the "newer" differential. However, he had several issues with the lower hour diff and in hindsight, that may have been the best course of action. Old hindsight being 20/20....
