  • This location closed down some point in 2023 I believe. Circle 3 Farms right next to this location has been there ever since I was a kid back in the late 90s. They pretty much gutted out the inside of the place, nothing really left behind. Also, Curly’s Ice Cream has been there for a very long time as well like Circle 3 Farms.

Good to revisit special places. The 1990's seem like just last year to me, but I am much, much older than you and time really does seem to go by faster and faster as I age. Take care. Adventure on!!

The door with the stairs going up to it was the main entrance... the other doors had a sign on it that have arrows saying "please use other door" that you can see clear as day on google street view. Also, You're correct about the stop & shop down the road on 23 in Pompton Plains at Jackson Ave... It was A&P when I was around there. After sandy hit the area in 2012, it never reopened and was left for nothing until Stop & Shop took it over in 2015.

Originally the abandoned store was 'Liquorama', built in the 1950's. I worked there in when in college in 1976-77. The section to the right was for bulk return soda bottle brand 'Brookdale', that was based in the Brookdale section of Bloomfield, NJ. The original owner died in the 1980's, a son took it over but then sold. I believe the store was renovated in the 1990's. The center door was originally a sliding electric door. I believe it has been abandoned for 2-3 years. Curly's Ice Cream was originally a Carvel. Back in the 1970's the owner had some good looking daughters and other relatives who worked there. Next to it, where the car wash for the current Shell station is was originally an Stweart's Root Beer/food stand. It went throught other tenants into the early 1980's. then torn down. The Shell station was originally an Esso/Exxon station from the late 1940's. I worked on and off there from 1972 until it closed in 1977. It was torn down and the tanks removed in or around the early 1980's. In the early 1980's, the circle that used to be were was replaced by the intersection there today. Circle 3 farms takes it name from being adjacent to the 3 circle (roundabout) on Rt. 23 north of US Rt. 46, It originally a site of a floret and garden supply company that went out of business in about 1978. The gas station there was created in the late 1990's, originally as an Amaco, then BP, Gulf and the current Shell station. Across the road where the Kia dealer is was a Honda brand motorcycle dealer, later a Pontaic dealer.

I remember when they added the circle back in the 70s There was a burger chef restaurant on the left now it’s the ice cream stand. You got a burger fries and a drink for 98C. Up the road was my wife’s Dr in the funky color professional building.

Do you know if anyone took over the following:
*Christmas Tree Shops in Bridgewater, NJ - have asked Dick's Sporting Goods to take over
*KFC in Hackettstown, NJ - have asked Chick-fil-A to open there
*Kmart, Westwood, NJ - have asked Dick's Sporting Goods to open here
