Haha the second strong coffee was hilarious! It’s a shame the Emirates A380 doesn’t fly between Auckland and Sydney anymore. Qantas A330 and 787 product is definitely the next best.
Qantas have been serving the same rare beef salad on Domestic J class...I had it on the Australia day long weekend between Sydney and Brisbane. I enjoyed it!
Great trip report! You came up with a brilliant solution to the strong coffee! ;-) [QantasPJs] Edit: adding this (QantasPJs). I just noticed that this was shown on the video! What an amazing flight review Paul. So informative. Gives me as a single mum of one great insight when I take my son on his first EVER flight. Love the PJs
Comprehensive commentary and video of the Auckland airport facilities - impressive for a smaller city... then some great footage flying over the NZ coast before winding down for Sydney. As a few have commented - we appreciated the method of diluting the coffee and so reducing the "jitters"!
The trans Tasman has a great choice of airlines, I flew Sydney to Auckland on Virgin business recently, crew were absolutely amazing no need for IFE, landing once the meal service is completed. Still miss seeing those 4 Emirates A380's at Auckland. (QantasPJs)
LOL the "American coffee" is literally a droplet of espresso in a cup of hot water. That's actually not too far from the truth! I love it when you take cheeky swipes at other countries but I was expecting you to pick on NZ in this one. I wouldn't mind the Qantas PJ's but I always win them, so I've been selling your pre-worn ones out of a vending machine in Shibuya, Japan for $20k a pop. Making a killing on 'em mate, those salarymen love sniffing the things. So yeah, if you wouldn't mind sending me these ones I'm happy to accept (QantasPJ's please!)
A smoking deck ! Magnificent !! The 380 may look like an "ugly duckling" but I love flying in them...especially in Business or First...so much room !! It is such a shame that many airlines are going to phase them out of operations in the coming years...but Emirates will still be flying them for many years to come !! A most excellent short haul Business Class flight with QF ! I have flown the "new" a 330 Business class and indeed found it to be one of the best seats in the air. Not sure I could do Perth to London and vice versa to be honest !! Thanks again mate and I always look forward to your flights etc !!
Another wonderful video. Some useful tips about the lounges! I wouldn't have even thought about the Emirates lounge, as you said they're not One World. (QFpyjamas)
For a person that has never been on Qantas before, it is nice to see how different airlines treat the customers & the types of food they have (QantasPJs)
Another outstanding vlog which doesn’t disappoint. Hope the passenger who needed help is back to full health. Auckland Airport is looking very modern these days, but I really appreciate all the in-depth tips. You’re so lucky to fly the Dreamliner as most flights are 737, I’ve never been in a wide bodied across the Tasman, but I hear Emirates has cut back now, as they have their one direct flight from Dubai. Keep flying and producing more fab vlogs! (Qantas PJ’s)

Hi Paul, another wonderful capture ✈️. My favourite is still the 330-200 on trans-Tasman flights, but if I end up on a Jet Connect 737 with a great Kiwi cabin manager, I just sit back and enjoy. What I do like is that Qantas are now serving 4 wine options - two Aussie, two Kiwi. Next time skip the over-hyped Squealing Pig Sav Blanc, and try a Kiwi Pinot. I had the Giesen Small Batch last week - sensational! The 787 service to AKL ends in March, but it was a nice use of their 787 assets SYD-SFO-SYD-AKL-SYD-SFO.... Hopefully Qantas will do the same next year. Here’s big thinking for 2021 - if Qantas retain a Queen, they can do the Antartica charters, and also get all us Kiwi’s back to see Emirates Team NZ retain the America’s Cup...... very happy to be a featured guest if that pans out haha.......
Thanks Paul for the great review. BTW I thought the strong coffee idea was hilarious! I always enjoy your flight reviews, particularly the ones where things are not what was expected, lol! I agree, the food looked a little lacklustre for Qantas business class! (Qantas PJ's)
Hi Paul! Greetings from Indonesia. I love everything about aviation, so of course I love to see your trip report. Also I think that 787 is a very nice looking aircraft, hope to fly on one of them someday. (QantasPJ’s)
Awesome video Paul. Nice business cabin, especially compare to the 737-800.The dimming windows are curious. I personally prefer the A350's decision to leave it the passenger. Beautiful production and your choice of music is always complimentary. Thanks for sharing these flights with us!!!

The first time I went to Australia in 1988 I was shocked that every time I ordered coffee I was given a little packet of instant coffee and some hot water. I'm glad to see that the coffee culture has come a long way since then. 😁
In 1988 I went to the USA on a Continental aircraft, and asked the flight attendant for a white coffee. The response was "We have black coffee and coffee with cream".
Phil Young We might have been on the same flight as I flew Continental on that trip.🙂 Australian coffee culture has made great inroads here (luckily) although you still might get some stares ordering a flat white. And to be fair, my parents were still drinking instant coffee in 1988. 😄
Paul Stewart good man. I only started drinking coffee at 40 after being reintroduced by a friend (yea a late bloomer) because my first couple of goes in my twenties was with instant stuff and it was like dirty dish water. So it took 20 years before I was convinced to try again a proper barrista made cup.
I recently (Jan) flew SYD-PER return with Virgin. I originally booked economy however they sent me an email with offer to bid on a business seat so I entered the minimum (A$360) and got the upgrade. Flight out was A330-200 and for my 1st business experience I was impressed. The lay flat seats were similar set up to yours in Qantas however the peripherals on the 787 look better as its newer. The food and wine looked a bit better on Virgin and their service was also good. Unfortunately I made the mistake of also flying business on the return leg (red-eye) on their 737 800 and that wasn't worth the upgrade (A$350) for a slightly wider seat.
New subscriber here. I fly long haul Scotland to Australia so I love looking at folks videos to check out the various airlines and what they offer and also the airports. Qantas cabin crew are a nice cheery bunch 👍🏼. (QantasPJs)
Entirely fair coffee comment :) (it’s easy to type that after 4 double espresso today. I did find a couple of decent coffee places on my recent US trip). A nice review, and it seems a pleasant way to cross the ditch. Cool tray table!
If you don’t want the caffeine jitters when drinking coffee, either take 150 mg of l-theanine (amino acid from green tea) or drink Yerba mate instead. 😎
Good on ya for traveling in our region and help the economy. I totally agree with your description of aircrafts, Im yet to fly on the A350 in April on Qatar Airways -1000 and -900 so I will be able to compare with the 787. You have overeaten but hey its only for one day and as for the coffee..yeah we can teach the yanks a thing or two. (QantasPJs)

Paul, you are missing on flight for across the Tasman, Singapore Airlines, Melbourne to Wellington. 100% you need to review this, I reckon they would easily have the best Business class on the Tasman.

They still fly between *Christchurch* and Sydney
