About 20 years ago, my mother flew El Al from London to Israel. She was a wine buyer at the time. She remembers that El Al had no trouble with her carrying her corkscrew onto the plane. When she flew from the states to London, TSA had confiscated it from her and sent it through baggage. She asked El Al's security person why it was allowed. She says they told her their security check showed her to be a wine buyer and that she had held that job since retiring from being a school teacher 12 years earlier. They did not think that a wine buyer carrying a corkscrew was anything that threatened security. So El Al might have the toughest security, but they are, also, realists.

I live in Israel - 24 years in Aug 2024. When I worked at Boeing - 747, 767 - in wire integration - there were areas in the plane we were told to leave alone. El Al would later put in additional security.
Hi Josh! Thank you for bringing the world to us! I greatly appreciate all of your work. I would love to fly on ELAL. What wonderful and sweet hospitality. The looked delicious. Yes, travel, music and good food can bring people together. Blessings to you. Stay Safe and Peaceful.
When I flew in the U.S. we could also carry guns and a lot of us do. It’s a post 9/11 thing. What infuriates me are the disgusting people who try to blind us with lasers. The FAA has at least taken measures to try and prosecute these losers to the fullest extent of the law. We spend a lot of time and sweat to become pilots and for someone to try and take our passion away and endanger passengers is just unconscionable.
Josh, you give me an opportunity to see things that I have not and probably never will experience. You also show respect to the different people and their culture. As Arvazir said below: " I am 100% sure you have fantastic parents/family." Amen. Thank you for sharing these experiences with people like me. Please continue to do this.
My mom was a teenager during and after WWII and she always held such love for the Israli people and she passed it on to me. I care for all countries also. She loved the Israelis way more. I enjoyed your review of ElAl alot. Thanks for your reviews. I hope you keep them up.
I really enjoyed your flight. I have always been curious about traveling to the Middle East, especially since I have a prosthetic leg. I have wanted to travel for years, but have always been tied down by various details of life. Your videos help to stem some of the wanderlust I fell.
I had such a good giggle in this video Josh!! That flight attendant was OUTSTANING!!!! I actually had tears in my eyes at the service you got in that flight. Israel can be very proud of their carrier. And the mother and daughter behind you!!
Hey Josh. Big fan of your work. I loved this video, in particular because of the human charm of the crew looking after you. How lovely. You are right - aviation, like sport, brings people together. I wish I had made that connection sooner. Keep doing your stuff. Best wishes, Zac
Sometimes I feel that your experiences with the various airlines may not be what an average passenger would experience just because they know you are a reviewer, so they will go the extra mile to please you, but at least that is an indication that they care. By sharp contrast, when you have a bad experience on an airline even though they know you are a reviewer, then that is an indication that we should avoid that airline by all means necessary lol Excellent review, Josh. That was very entertaining to watch, especially that female flight attendant. I was very jealous :)
Fact is, I don't announce myself to the airlines. But yeah some figure it out somehow or crew happens to be subscribed to my channel, but even that case, kudos to the airline for doing their homework cuz some airlines, don't give a damn.
The minute the crew sees his cameras and the dialogue, they know it's a review and start acting better. Josh would have to go completely undercover with hidden camera, fake name and disguise to get an impartial review.
Great report! I was thoroughly interrogated by Israeli security upon departure from Ben Gurion and I was extremely pleased by it. I felt completely safe and secure. The interviewer asked me if I understood why they’re asking all of the questions they did and I said I did. By the way, I overheard the next traveler being interviewed and the questions were not the same as I was asked so it’s a true interrogation, not just someone reading the same questions over and over. I was very impressed.
Your flight attendant is a stunner! Wow! What a lovely personality, well trained and genuinely wants to make your experience one to remember. If ever given the chance to go to Israel I'm most certainly booking with El Al. Great job Mr. Cahill!
Back in the mid 80’s I flew from Heathrow to Tel Aviv on El Al ... the security was unbelievable ( not a bad thing ) but , shall I say “ unsettling “ 👍
I took the El AI recently, I was late to take the flight because of the delayed of my connection, they waited for me but they send me to the room and interrogated me for like 7 min and then let me get the plane. It is indeed a beautiful plane, for the economic seat you don’t have to much room, but they give you a pillow, blanket, Toothbrush, toothpaste, eyes cover and good food and breakfast!!
Oh wow I really hope El Al management see this video and honour that flight attendant with some kind of reward, she is simply fantastic! She clearly enjoys what she does. Both thumbs up!
Excellent video Josh, really enjoyed it. I would definitely fly El Al, looked like a really good experience and have no issue with the security measures.
I flew EL AL airline back in 1976 (yes I am that old). It was a very interesting experience. That was a time when highjacking planes was still a thing so I appreciated the extra security. At that time, the flight attendants were all male and we're military veterans. The only thing that I didn't like was the food. We were delayed on the tarmac at JFK for over 3 hours because something happening in Canada and they could not serve us anything except water until we were in the air. It does look like the food has improved. That was a different time (only 18 months after the Yom kippur war) but would I fly EL AL airline again? YES definitely!
Well, given the circumstance that conscription is mandatory for all genders in Israel nowdays, you could argue that most attendants still have some military background.
The food definately has improved, but back in the 1970s, selecting the Mushroom Omlette for breakfast and the Olive Chicken for dinner was always the best choice. 😋 I do miss the 747s, a very comfortable and smooth ride.
El Al crew are the best, I once had a 12 hour flight and spent all night chatting with crew and drinking unlimited amounts of coffee and wine while the entire plane was asleep.
In 1986 a friend of mine was on an ELAL flight from from London to Tel Aviv. Two ELAL security officers stopped a pregnant lady who was carrying a bomb in her bag. She had unwittingly been given the device by her boyfriend. The extra security saved many lives that day. Great report. Lovely service from the lady steward who was a “Dish” herself!! Great report, thanks.

Enjoyed this video! I wish airlines in the USA could go back to this beautiful level of service. It’s inspiring to see flight attendants friendly, engaged and Smiling! Used to be that way here before 2002. 🙏
A friend of mine worked airport security in the 1980s at Manchester Airport. He told me there were only two airlines that tallied baggage checked in with the actual passenger boarding list. That is, ensuring no-one could check in a bag, presumably with a bomb inside, and then not board the flight. Those two airlines were American and El Al. Even back in the 1980s, security was paramount for El Al.
We were travelling once with 3 kids (2 lap babies) and the flight attendant gave us a seat for one of the lap babies as well as a large water bottle (1 liter) to my wife who was nursing. Really family friendly airline.
Well yes they have to be. A lot of orthodox Jewish families with 5+ kids using the airline. If they’re rude to families they’re pushing away their biggest customers.
Yeah I’d wait a bit longer even after the war Israelis tend to have problems with foreigners for a bit after wars I’d give it at least a month or 2 following the end of the war I’m Israeli but always welcome whenever ofc

Great Video, Great Crew - Aviation indeed brings people together! Regarding the laser attack on the plane, we once had a pilot who was seriously blinded for a couple of seconds when descending into Cairo airport. He passed on controls to the captain for the final approach just to be on the safe side. These lasers are nasty and a real hazard!
This airline is like a phantasy airline of a 5 years old: 1. Plane is as safe as a military aircraft. 2. Pilot was in the military. 3. Interior design is splendid. 4. The crew is very professional and charismatic! 5. Food is delicious.😊
As a frequent flyer to and from Israel, I find El Al to offer the best staff service. Though the amenities may not be as nice as some of the others, I always feel at peace during the flight. There is something very nice about the flight when all the passengers are happy with the service, the feelings are somewhat contagious. I tried just about every airline there is to offer in and out of Israel, El Al is my go to every time now.
Josh, as a Flight Attendant, I agree that aviation and travel are ingredients to peace among people. I've met so many from around the world and have learned we have more in common then political agendas...family,love,pain, joy,etc....we experience all of what life offers regardless of borders, creeds, religions, and politics...we are all human. As for El Al....they have never been on my mind as a choice of air travel but, they are now because of your honest video and stamp of approval. Someday, I look foward to visiting Israel and flying their flag carrier!
To quote Mark Twain : " Travel is fatal for Prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome views of men ( and women) cannot acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth one’s whole lifetime"..
El AL is my favorite airline! I flew with them because I like they service and they serve delicious food in economy class. Security checks don't bother me at all because I know why Israel has to have to have them. They're the best in the world in how they can spot anything suspicious. Crew is always polite and friendly and very customer oriented.
Wow, it really was an amazing crew. I’ve been waiting a long time for you to check out ElAl as I’ve always thought that it’s a great airline. Thank you so much for your review!
I first flew El Al in 1988 and I believe it was a 747-200...I later flew on El Al in 2001, on a 747-400. Amazing! One of these days I will fly them again.
Another amazing video. I have travelled Economy with El Al to Israel but I’ll definitely be opting for Business Class next time. The cabin staff were superb and that meal looked the business!!
Absolutely. e.g., flying on ATR 72 between Invercargill and Christchurch 15 years ago which remains to be one of my most memorable flights as a passenger.
Interesting observation you made about the anti-missile measures installed on the plane. The need for this arose about 20 years ago, when a jetliner of another Israeli carrier (Arkia) was targeted by two SA7 Strela missiles while taking off from Mombasa, Kenya by Al Qaeda terrorists. Luckily the missiles missed their target, but since then the lesson was learned and the planes were armed with this system.
It probably adds to this the fact that with the new routes to Middle Eastern countries such as the UAE. Their routes will take them over places which literally want to genocide their entire people, countries whos leaders say as much on twitter in the open. Flying into the middle east for El Al is probably a huge security challenge in and of itself.
One of the best videos I think you have posted, which included great detailed information about the airlines procedure's which are different to many others. Actually makes me want to fly El AL more. The cabin crew were fantastic and a credit to the Airline they made that flight all the better.
Proper people working for a proper airline from a proper country 💁 As for the scum trying to bring the plane down, and it’s full of civilians ? Ooops I’ve already said it, scum.
I travel with EL AL and have the same experience like Josh. Crew really made the flight! Food is always great and crew is very friendly and engaging. I had special request during the flight and they went behind my expectations. One of the flight attendants told me (after I expressed my appreciation on great quantity of food) that 'Nobody on EL AL will go hungry, ever'. I asked for seconds and it was given to me...Just lovely.
Ive flown ELAL several times . I can say is the staff are always very polite and attentive. One year we were on an aging 737 which did have a dated cabin. But im not complaining...it was a flight we were booked on after after our Swiss flight from TLV- FRA was cancelled due to the conflict in 2014. Knowing we were on the safest airline we were at ease. I just picked up on one comment about the wine...some of them are simply the best Golan Heights included. Leaving Ben Gurion we've been questioned twice in the past before going through security. Fully appreciate what they do to ensure everyone safety
In my El Al interview (back in the 747 times) I was asked when I had arrived in Boston (our departure airport). I said I had flown in from Atlanta the day before, and spent the night in Boston. "Where in Boston did you stay?" they inquired. "An apartment very near here," I replied (it had been an Airbnb, although I failed to mention that.) "And whose apartment was it?" "Um. . .Tom's!" I answered, relieved that I was able to recall the Host's name, given how nervous I was by then. "And what was 'Tom's' *last* name?" they asked. "I don't know," I admitted, "but. . . I can look it up?!" "You spent the night at his apartment, yet you don't know *his last name* ??!!" 🥴🤔😬 I still laugh about that. What kind of tramp was I, anyway?! LOL 😂 Security *is* the name of the game on El Al!
The service was tremendous, looks like you were super looked after and the cabin crew's demeanour seemed very welcoming, certainly did a good job representing EL AL that's for sure.

Hi, Josh. Greetings and salutations from Clarksville, Tennessee Fort Campbell area. Nice indeed to see countries and cultures come together and creating understanding and respect. Looking forward to visiting Israel in the near future. Will fly El Al. I have Jewish roots and want to visit the Holy Land. Thank you. Shalom.🇺🇸❤
I flew London to Tel Aviv with El Al way back in 1977 (Boeing 720). The security was pretty strict but my then Australian partner was Jewish and he chatted away in Hebrew to the check-in staff. Apparently he vouched for me and there were no problems. Leaving Tel Aviv with Air France (Boeing 747-100) to Bangkok via Teheran (it was in the days of the Shah and friendly relations with Israel) I was taken aside and asked a lot of questions about what I had been doing in Israel. My hand baggage was searched plus a body pat-down. This was before the days of scanning machines etc. I never knew the reason for the scrutiny but the security guy was friendly and it was fairly quick. Strange, considering I was flying Air France and leaving the country, but it is what it is.
Thank you Josh, this was the first time I've watched your videos. I enjoyed it very much and look forward to seeing more of your work. You've inspired me to do more traveling.
In 2004 I flew El Al from LA to Toronto since it was the cheapest flight. I lined up to check in and Israeli in suit approached me and asked me where I was heading to and checked my passport. Here is where it got crazy. El Al had own x-ray machine next to counter for check-in luggage. After running it twice, I was escorted to a room behind where I was personally searched and awaited until boarding announced. I am a Korean, and all non-Israeli passengers were treated the same way. I was accompanied by old Chinese couple and a black gentleman. When boarding was announced a lady came by, and we all followed her to the gate, where we met Israeli passengers. Then, we got on a bus, escorted by 4 LAPD petrol cars in a 2-2 square formation and boarded the plane that was parked some distances away. The airplane was guarded by a few guys in orange vests with Hebrew written on back. Boarded it and as we walked pass other passengers, they gave us unwelcoming glances. Once we took off, all went crazy. People were walking around and talking aloud. It was one of the weirdest and craziest experiences I will never forget until today. But gotta to tell you, it was the safest flight.
Thank you for sharing your experience. What would u think if i, a muslim trying to fly with EL AL. Will the treatment & security be crazier than your experience?

Glad to see him continue traveling till this day! Aviation brings people together, and become stronger than ever :D
brings people together. Hmmm yes and no. In Europe we had another terroristic attack AGAIN in Holland and Belgium with many fatalities. I am not really into globalism to be honest.
As Moroccan Muslim I am happy to see El Al and Royal Air Maroc establishing direct flight between Casablanca, Marrakech and Tel Aviv. My Moroccan Israeli brothers and sisters has the right to come to their roots in Morocco. By then we can rebuild the broken bridges!!!
I don’t know why Morrocco, UAE, Saudia and other countries were normalising anything. It’s all for economical benefit. The airlines and countries don’t care about people.
I know Turkish airlines flies a lot into TLV, and knew that UAE Israel now have relations, but did not know emirates was actually flying into Tel Aviv, amazing.
Despite how cramped you felt in that seat, it's an infinitely better experience than I had on their old 747 riding economy in 2008. Glad to see they finally have a competitive product.
I remember flying with Cathay pacific economy class, and even in that there was plenty of leg room, our own movie screen on the back of seats, plus free alcohol and snacks all the way through the flight. 13 hours too Hong Kong, then a two day stop over which I really needed, then onto Sydney airport. We then got a internal flight from Sydney too Newcastle in a small 12 seater propeller plane, oh boy what a difference from the 747😂

@@valeable95 It is inherently political. Did you not hear him comment on (then) improving Saudi-Israeli relations in the beginning being the reason the flight even happened in the first place? He's wrong btw the Saudis have never recognized Israel. Plus when you're showing off the unique security measures of the airline, including direct energy weapons mounted on the aircraft, but not talking about why these things are necessary, you're kind of beating around the bush.

How common is the lasering of pilots?
@@Son.of.Saturn Pretty common. The FAA a few years ago increased penalties, because it was simply happening too much.

Sometimes I feel that your experiences with the various airlines may not be what an average passenger would experience just because they know you are a reviewer, so they will go the extra mile to please you, but at least that is an indication that they care. By sharp contrast, when you have a bad experience on an airline even though they know you are a reviewer, then that is an indication that we should avoid that airline by all means necessary lol
Excellent review, Josh.
He’s definitely better than a certain other reviewer who definitely tells the airline he’s coming lmao
The minute the crew sees his cameras and the dialogue, they know it's a review and start acting better. Josh would have to go completely undercover with hidden camera, fake name and disguise to get an impartial review.
Indeed.. maybe his camera was toooooo stand out and that makes the crew realised🤭🤭
Let’s all start carrying an elegant camera that stands out, and we all will get extra hospitality. Hahahaha
The kindness and generosity of your flight attendant makes me want to book a flight asap!
Bootlicker. You will make this world a worse place with your attitude.
Your flight attendant is a stunner! Wow! What a lovely personality, well trained and genuinely wants to make your experience one to remember. If ever given the chance to go to Israel I'm most certainly booking with El Al. Great job Mr. Cahill!

The flight attendant, she was very2 friendly
Both thumbs up!
lol ,El Al does a background check on every passenger before the flight so probably el al management themselves told her to act like that
Excellent video Josh, really enjoyed it.
My pops was an Air Martial on El-El in the 70's. They didn't fool around back then. Or today.
Well, given the circumstance that conscription is mandatory for all genders in Israel nowdays, you could argue that most attendants still have some military background.
They're still all exmilitarary just not all male.
The food definately has improved, but back in the 1970s, selecting the Mushroom Omlette for breakfast and the Olive Chicken for dinner was always the best choice. 😋
I do miss the 747s, a very comfortable and smooth ride.
El Al crew are the best, I once had a 12 hour flight and spent all night chatting with crew and drinking unlimited amounts of coffee and wine while the entire plane was asleep.
Where were you going to and from just curious was it like New York to Tel Aviv?

A friend of mine worked airport security in the 1980s at Manchester Airport. He told me there were only two airlines that tallied baggage checked in with the actual passenger boarding list. That is, ensuring no-one could check in a bag, presumably with a bomb inside, and then not board the flight. Those two airlines were American and El Al. Absolutely. e.g., flying on ATR 72 between Invercargill and Christchurch 15 years ago which remains to be one of my most memorable flights as a passenger.

In my El Al interview (back in the 747 times) I was asked when I had arrived in Boston (our departure airport).
I said I had flown in from Atlanta the day before, and spent the night in Boston.
"Where in Boston did you stay?" they inquired.
"An apartment very near here," I replied (it had been an Airbnb, although I failed to mention that.)
"And whose apartment was it?"
"Um. . .Tom's!" I answered, relieved that I was able to recall the Host's name, given how nervous I was by then.

Same thing happened to me
And to me. Dutch. Not Jewish. Separate but friendly treatment. And on board of El Al it’s always very lively. Good fun.
Thank you for sharing your experience. What would u think if i, a muslim trying to fly with EL AL. Will the treatment & security be crazier than your experience?
