- You can take care of your grinder regularly and easily by running Grindz through it every so often, but it's also important to take these guys apart completely every so often and give them a thorough cleaning. Not only will you access areas that Grindz can't clean, it will give you the opportunity to assess the shape your burrs are in. Watch Gail guide us through taking apart, cleaning and putting back together a Mazzer Mini.
Need some Grindz? We've got 'em here: www.seattlecoff...
I literally just finished cleaning my grinder before I watched this. Im so glad Im not the only lunatic vacuuming my burrs.
You guys are great!
You can! We have a few more how-to's that we'll be posting to show how to get into different models. - Kat
Careful vacuuming up the spring at 3:16!
+Andrew Goodman oooooops!
I use mine for coarse and espresso grinds...just back the screw stop out a bit so it will go past the stop...makes nice even pourover drip grinds
I just cleaned my grinder last night, getting the top and bottom burrs out and using a cheap toothbrush to... brush its teeth... and toothpicks to dislodge whatever I could reach.
Instead of compressed air cans, use a compact, high-power air blower, such as the Metro Vacuum ED500 DataVac or something similar. They'll eliminate the issues that can come with compressed air and can be better at getting the grounds out, especially out of hard to reach places because of how much air they can move.
Thanks! great presentation.
If you love the beans you have in there, definitely do that; if not and they happen to be old, stale beans like we use for these demo videos, the shop vac is the way to go ;) - Kat
Well, this is one of the far more simple guys because you can just easily twist out and remove the top burr for cleaning. We wanted to focus on the grinders that required you to get into them with tools, etc. - Kat
Shop vac and air compressor... love these tools.
Great tip!! Thanks for sharing with the class :D - Kat
No, we haven't tried that out -- I'll put it on the to research list :) - Kat
wow... I really pushed a bit too far on cleaning the grinder burr.
I have recently been using everyday, but I don't think I cleaned it out for about 8 years . But now it is looking brand spanking new. :)
You're welcome :) - Kat
Not positive as we don't carry that guy, but if it's similar to the Hario models, you should be able to take the burrs apart fairly easily. Or you could run Grindz through it - Kat
A wooden toothpick is also good for loosening some of the old coffee from the burrs...
I just cleaned my Mazzer Mini for the first time since I bought it in 2008 (yikes). I only use it 2-3 times per week for a single espresso drink, so it wasn't any worse looking than the one in your video. But I did notice there was no course screen (~1cm squares) at the outlet of the burrs to break up clumps. I don't think I vacuumed it up, but somehow it ain't there .... Do you think I should install one?
Also, in reinstalling the top burr, it was difficult to figure out when to stop screwing on the top burr. Not sure if there is something obvious I'm missing there.
Thanks for the video!
Ann
Eeek! Yes, slicing of fingers, always a good sign that they'll still slice your beans :D If you search our website for Mazzer Replacement Burrs we have the Super Jolly ones on there. - Kat
We're in good company - Kat
Lift out the springs first so you dont lose one in the vacuume as displayed here at 3:17
Gordon Reddy ....and it’s gone!!
I don't know how that would remove static .... - Kat
BRASS brush, not a normal steel wire brush. The brass will not hurt the burrs like a steelie...
Make sure to vacuum out all of the steel wires that break of your brush (and they will).
Have you tried the H2JO from GSI Outdoors? I've been using mine for a week now with my Klean Kanteen bottle and LOVE IT! Would love to see a review by you :)
I am concerned that I will not get the collar back in the same position as it was. Where do I position the collar before I undo the collar screw? I have the mazzer mini. I want to do it, but I am afraid I will screw it up. Please advise.
Is it possible to sharpen the burrs with say a fine file?
can do this with any grinder
How should I clean a porlex hand grinder?
Merci beaucoup
Can you hand wash the top burr?
thank you!
Why shop vac the beans? Just close the slider in the bottom of the hopper and finish grinding the beans. Prepare an espresso and you now have something to drink while you clean your grinder!
Moment of silence begins now...
Those poor beans got shop-vac'd and never completed their life journey fulfillment as a great cup of coffee, a moment of silence for all the lost beans... Everyone should have a Gail in their life great lady!
Are replacement burrs expensive for a home grinder?
You mean for the Mazzer Mini? www.seattlecoffeegear.com/mazzer-replacement-burrs-mini-mini-electronic-and-super-jolly
Or for a different gridner? - Steven
Take care of em springs when vaccuuming inside the grinder 😅
do not vacuum any springs!!: 3:18
declumpts? allways thought that was just the anti-static screen, so the ground doesn't stick to side LOL (8.10)
Jessica will you be the voice of my voicemail?
I use my air line compressor to blow mine out
That's the best!
and this is with screen watch?v=j7XmYIo1XmU

too much talking and missed therefore to explain the most difficult part: how to reassemble ...
Please, please do not give the camera to that lady… Please…
