Just cleaned mini and major today, and saw the video only now! Was my first try on maazer, but did other grinders before of similar principle:)) Had a little hick-up with the major one while putting threads back on, but as in video, realigned it, so all is well. thank youu!! great videos xx
I clean my grinders after every 1kg of coffee has gone through it. I use a stiff 20mm artists hog hair brush to loosen the coffee and kitchen paper to finish it off.
I have a marginally-related question: How to calibrate for different humidity at home? Recently the humidity in my home went up quite a bit, and I had to grind coarser to counteract the slower extraction. I know that baristas calibrate for that by pulling shots of espresso before they open, but that will be too much for home brewers. Is there any reference on this, say a grind-size vs humidity curve that I can use to calibrate the grind size to humidity?
I haven't seen anything. I would say that I've never experienced a weather changed that has taken a shot from bang on parameters one day to undrinkable the next day. Personally at home, I usually drink anything within a wide range of parameters (lets just say for eg from 24-32 seconds), and make an adjustment so that the next shot will pull better if I see it running fast/slow. The weather in Perth, WA isn't super extreme so perhaps in other parts of the world there would be crazy swings. The main time I'll get a huge difference in grind setting is when I'm changing batch (ie roast date) or the coffee itself.
I see, so you calibrate based on the first shot. Not sure whether a 20% change in humidity (in 6 hours) counts as crazy, but that did make a difference for the feel of the grinds as well as the espresso shots for me.
I haven't used that one in particular, but when I have used those in the past, they haven't done the best job. Definitely going to clean out the grinder better if you can take it a part - just make sure you're careful if you're going to do it. You can see the difference in my burrs from the cleaning job!
how often should I clean it ? I only grind 1 kg per month. Actually, I want to do it to see whether I can re-calibrate my Compak. now I must use maximum fineness for espresso.
mine as stiff as fuck and nearly turn one round, even though its just 2 months old .. I tried all day putting it back together but failed, now my hands hurt lol I will take it today to the shop to put back together .. I just hope I didn't break something

The burrs every 1kg?! Man that's dedication!

do we really need to take it apart ? Is it enough just put some cleaning material (e.g.from Puro) and grind it ?

I hope you didn't force the thread! you have to be super careful when putting it back together because if you force the thread it will be misaligned.
