    Obviously having a name like Ford is fun and good for F1. But I still hate the idea of rebrands where companies slap their name on something with little involvement.
    Hopefully Ford really does work on the hybrid system fully.

    Now it makes sense why Cadillac (GM) is now interested in F1. They heard rumblings of Ford's involvement, and if you want to be the top car manufacturer in the USA, you can't your rival company be in F1 and you not.

      What you've to understand is is Ford has limited experience with manufacturing EV engines. At present, the Ford Mach E is only capable of producing 98.7 kw/h vs the Honda Clarity E which has been in production since 2016 produces 121 kilowatts. Andretti will be best served partnering with Honda. My only concern is whether should Honda go at it alone, or do they've technical & engineering aspects in place to avoid what happened with BAU Honda.

      Honda didn’t drop the ball. Red Bull did. Honda already made intentions to stay in F1. RB/AT are already partners with Honda. It was a proven formula and partnership to be winners. But From what we know, RB chose another engine supplier over Honda.

      @@JAREDPLY1 right, but it’s 2021/22 season, Honda made a promise to stay in F1 (Red Bull) until 2025. That is still years away. Even then, with Honda’s new management said they were committed in F1 beyond 2026. it wasn’t like Honda left RB hanging at the end of 2025, with no direction whether they will stay or go. RB already knows that Honda is committed to the sport… But it’s RB’s decision to go with Ford…
      I foresee in 2026 with Honda not associated with RB, RB’s without any real engine supplier’s alliance, Red Bull will be a disaster… Reason Red Bull was able to win the last 2 championships was because of Honda’s engineering alliance. Honda was feeding RB all of the technological info. It wasn’t like RBs in-house engineers that was keeping their engine program alive.
      In 2026, let’s see how RB will go without Honda’s guidance. Ford is just a sponsor. They don’t have the technological know how yet…

      They haven't. Honda will continue to build Redbull's engines in japan until 2025, protecting their IP, untill the Redbull- Ford colab begins in 2026.

      @@bonelesswatermelon420 RBPT working on their own engine since last year.. How can they build 2026 engine from scratch? Well one of 300 RBPT engineers are former Mercedes AMG F1 team Power Unit engineers.. So even if Honda wouldn't give Redbull any carry over, RBPT engineers still had basic knowledge on how to build F1 engine from scratch..
      And if we look at how highly performance based operation in Redbull management, it's only the matter of time before RBPT become the top engine manufacturer

      Money talks. Ford is a worldwide fortune 500 company worth +50 billion dollars and have been around for 120 years. Andretti Autosport, known mostly in the motorsports community, came out in the 1980s and worth about 100 million, which is less than 1% of what Ford is worth.

    This sounds like a win /win, especially for Ford. Being involved in the electronics, battery management side is a marketing 'race on Sunday / sell on Monday' perfect fit. "the new hybrid Mustang, with our F1 developed electronic management", I can see the ads now!

    As a fan of Ford and F1 I’m happy to see this and I think it can be good for the sport overall. That said I’m also curious about how effective they will be given they haven’t been in the sport for quite some time. I’d also love to see Andretti and GM getting involved. Thankfully F1 is growing in popularity here in the States and this could help drive even more interest.

      Lol. I think the team leadership of jaguar said it best. I can't remember the exact quotes, some from Lauda some from technical directors...
      It's pure bureaucracy. If you need to alter a part you can't just machine it and get the car out, you have to send a request up the chain and by the time you got authorisation to do that it was out dated and you were fighting to get the upgrade approved.
      Basically you can't run a race team with a ford structure. They've been historically bad at it. Definitely watch the interview with Lauda talking about it. If they are there providing money only it'll be more likely to be successful.

      @Lee so that's basically similar to what Toyota used to do in that time as well , too many decisions had to be referred to higher management and wait for approval , thats part of many reasons why Toyota failed, both as a team and engine.

    I think this is smart, ford has probably one of the most popular and reliable v6 is customer vehicles. They a turbo v6 isnt new, they use it in most trucks and even the new ford gt. I think this was super smart

    Ford Cosworth was one of the all time greats. Many decades ago. Automotive engineers, engineering scientists and corporate chief officers get replaced quite often, Hopefully, this decade will often more talent, skill, and commitment.

    It will all end in tears, mark my words! I seriously can't see RBPT or Ford being able to develop a power unit that can match Honda/Ferrari/Merc given how far behind RBPT/Ford already are. Probably Koenigsegg would have a better shot at it.

    I feel like this partnership going to be a step backwards for RedBull especially if Honda is no longer involved, if it wasn't for the work that Honda did to drastically improve the performance and reliability of their engine RebBull would have never won the 2021 and 2022 championships, drivers or constructors.

      Cosworth isn't Ford. Clue is the fact the name is different. The two get associated because of the DFV & Cosworth branded fast Fords of the 80s & 90s.

      @@chriswickham8678 you do know Cosworth designed the FVA engine which they sold the rights to to Ford & it was developed into the DFV. Ford then supported Cosworth for many years. I cannot see anywhere that they actually OWNED Cosworth in this period though... Ford did actually own Cosworth racing for a couple of years in the early 2000s, but certainly in 2013 Cosworth was completely separate from Ford.

    Ford were never really in F1 originally... they payed for naming rights to Cosworth developed engines. I suspect a similar arrangement will happen here, though it's possible a bit more F1 technology might trickle down to actual consumer products...

    I hope Ford will not get too much involvement in the development of the drivetrain. It’s nice to see Ford badge on an f1 car but that’s it. Looking at their history in f1 it’s better if they let rbr engineers do the work.

      2000's ha!! Try the 60s my friend. Cosworth existed at the level they did for 1 reason and it was big ol fat checks written by Ford. Look there is NO downside for F1 to see a few Americans involved. Heck if China and Japan can get a driver it only seems fair that the USA would have some type of representation within the organization of F1.

    I’m sure Honda isn’t too thrilled with this announcement. It’s 2023 but RB is already introducing a new engine partner for 2026. It’s a slap in the face for Honda. RB and Ford could have at least kept the news quiet until 2025. Honda is STILL a partner with RB until then… what an insult to Honda

      Honda insulted Redbull first.. You need to watch 2016 season and 2018,2019 season to see how good or bad Redbull family treated Honda, compared to McLaren..
      Had Honda former CEO didn't selfishly decided to quit F1, Redbull wouldn't overspent their catering budget to build a brand new RBPT and hired 300 engineers..

    I'm a Lewis Hamilton supporter, I'm so happy Ford is going to supply engines for red bull. Ford can take a silk purse and turn it into a sows ear, harray for Red Bull. Maybe Honda's technology and intellectual property can keep Red Bull/Ford competitive until mid-season. Ford is known for manufacturing short cuts that decrease their costs and the reliability of parts.

How is Ford only "contributing" when Jim Farley said this "Starting from 2023, Ford will work to develop the power unit that will be part of the new technical regulations, including a 350kW electric motor and a new combustion engine able to accept fully sustainable fuels, ready for the 2026 season". Sounds to me like Ford is doing all the work.

    its no different to the aston martin badging that first appeared on the force india pink panthers. its still a RB honda. Ford have a terrible history of not keeping up with advanced hybrid tech. They created some of the best small engines, their ECO range was fantastic output for tiny amounts of fuel. I dont think Ford has the brains to do F1 they are too middle management heavy. Id rather RB teamed with a new tech supplier like a Tesla Red Bull. That would be news...

    the main things are the electronic technology ford has, the structure for motor and car development, software ahead of the time , but to look deep strat wise, they know they have only to 25 with Honda, so they are anticipating ford, so they can work on the PU 2 years before they really arrive
