  • This week, we answer a request from several viewers to demonstrate how to install the needle clamp on a 201-2 (this also applies to several other Singer machines), as well as how to reassemble the upper thread tension unit. The machine being used as our demonstrator was in the shop for some service and repair work and is now ready to go home!

Thanks Bob! I'm always amazed how many more parts are on a 201. 😅

Oh my goodness!! We've had an email discussion about my 15-91 stitch issues. I thought it was fixed, but not. So just 2 days ago I took off needle bar thread guide and STRUGGLED getting it back together. Now here u r showing me how it should be done!! I'm going to recheck it to make sure I have it right! As always great help! 🥰

I like the trick with the q-tip! Even easier than tilting the machine back on the handwheel end.

The ones in the video (the brass with the steel inserts) were a gift. McMaster Carr has some nice ones on their website (the ones that look like screwdrivers are real nice, I also have, but am not a fan of, their tight clearance ones):

I don't know about the top... It was 3AM by the time I got this in the can and headed off to bed! So many freaking reshoots on such a simple video...

Thank you for this video! Though I have the manuals, I love learning by watching. I have a 201-2 that I have hesitated to clean, now I think u will give it a go!

Awesome content! Do you measure the grams of tension at zero setting (ie: 15g) or just go by the balanced stitch method? Thank you!

On 15 class machines, I measure bobbin case tension with a TOWA gauge, on 66 class, I pretty much go by balanced stitch, though I have a few other tricks up my sleeve...
