Pigs = Business Man/Politicians Dogs = Enforcers/Bosses in a company tryin to move up while pushing others down Sheep = the working class following blindly Animal Farm is the inspiration source for this album.
The album "Animals" is based on George Orwell's political fable, Animal Farm, where various castes of society are represented through different animals: dogs as lawmen, pigs as ruthless rulers, and sheep as pawns mindless. While the novel focuses on communism, the album is a direct critique of consumer society, is one of my favorites albums ❤️
Dogs represent the ruthless world of businessmen and how the more brutal you are the more you get to the top. The rest of what you wrote is 100% right.
This is my favorite band, my favorite album, and my favorite song...of...all...time. You took a big step toward me being a subscriber doing this song and talking about the goose bumps, especially during the 4 part guitar harmony that comes around twice ("the stop, and then it goes high" part), that is as good as Beethoven. Hands down.
Pink Floyd didn't write songs, they wrote albums. If you truly want to experience them and grab meaning behind individual songs it's a good idea to listen to them in order. Great reaction kid, love this song.
I think this is more important on The Wall, and a little important on Dark Side, Animals and Final Cut. The other albuns have songs with isolated meanings.
Nick Mason is such an underrated Drummer. Like Gilmour, like all of them in fact, their playing style is not super complex. But is just right. And the production of these albums lets you hear each of them so perfectly. This has always been my favorite song on this album. I know others appreciate Pigs and Sheep more but I need me some Gilmour and this song hits all the right notes for me
This album is inspired by the book Animal Farm. Dogs represents the corrupt businessmen and their back stabbing ways and how they eventually die and realize it wasn’t worth it (“Just another sad old man all alone and dying of cancer”) (“Dragged Down by the Stone”) are lyrics that represent this. Pigs is about the corrupt politicians who try to make themselves out as something they are not. Sheep is about the innocent bystanders, some of the sheep eventually rise up against the dogs and defeat them, however the new sheep in power turn out to become just as power hungry and corrupt as the dogs were which happens a lot in society honestly. Pigs on the Wing Pts 1 and 2 are a tribute to Rogers wife and how she helps him to avoid getting caught up in all the corruptness that exists
May I put in a request for recognition of the amazing work of Richard Wright on keyboards. He is the perfect counterbalance for the genius of David Gilmour, but never gets any credit. Still miss him, RIP Richard.
This song is very underrated and the guitar work in it is other worldly.... only DG can play like that. :) Now.... with that being said.... ECHOES REMASTERED!!! :)
At 4:35 you say: "i have the goosebumps". Despite the fact that I have listened to this song hundreds of times, it still gives me goosebumps when I listen to it. The only flaw about this song is that, despite its 17 minutes long, it's ultimately too short.
Thank you for reacting to this awesome Floyd track. Following the success of Dark Side of the Moon, Pink Floyd debuted three new songs during their 1974 tour, making up the first set. These were "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", "You Gotta Be Crazy" and Raving and Drooling". Pink Floyd would tour with new material as they preferred to refine their songs live in concert. Shine On You Crazy Diamond was split in two and bookended their next album, Wish You Were Here (1975). The other two tracks were not considered polished enough at the time. In 1977, Roger came up with the Animals concept for their next album. You have many comments on here about this. Roger changed the lyrics and You Gotta Be Crazy became Dogs, and Raving and Drooling became Sheep. Now to the GREAT NEWS! A search on UA-cam will get you many live bootleg recordings of these songs from 1974. They are well worth a listen to hear the evolution of these three tracks. Even better, there are many live bootlegs of many of Floyd's 1977 'In The Flesh" tour., which featured the Animals and Wish You Were Here albums, plus encores of Money and Us and Them. The best of these, in my option, is Pink Floyd Live at Oakland Coliseum in May 1977. This contains the most awesome version of Pigs (Three Different Ones), with the final guitar solo that is just unreal. It also contains the final ever live performance of their early classic, "Careful with that Axe, Eugene. As a deep dive, listen to the Montreal concert (1977) which included the infamous Roger Waters spitting incident. Roger had grown frustrated by a tour besieged by technical difficulties and loud crowds more interesting in setting off fireworks than listening to the music. In frustration, he calls a fan to the stage only to spit in their face. This incident inspired Roger to build a wall between the band and the audience, leading to the 1979 The Wall album. There is a wealth of live concert bootlegs of the band across all of their career, and Floyd was always at their best live in concert.
Been listening to Floyd for almost 50 years and still one of my goto bands. Saw this show on my 19th birthday. No words. Welcome to the club. Great reactions!
You are going to have so much fun listening to the next song "Pigs/3 Different Ones'. Doctor Gilmour plays Bass guitar and Lead Electric on it. Roger plays rhythm guitar on it. Listen carefully for David using a "voicebox" to make the "pig grunting" noises 1/2 way thru. He truly IS the Doctor on the guitar. Ummm....David doesn't "shred" on the guitar. He bends the heck out of those strings and the only thing he shreds is your soul. Enjoy Pigs, my man. I almost forgot....the band lets David off of his leash towards the end. Strap in.
I’ll never forget the first time I heard Dogs on a car speaker when I just so happened to be tripping on 4 tabs of acid. Has been my favorite song ever since.
I went see Pink Floyd at Anaheim stadium back in 1978, they had a floating balloon pig that went around the stadium as the song was being played as it reached the stage where it started it suddenly exploded like the Hindenburg, wisps of nothing came down to a surprised audience! Just awesome!
I read that David Gilmour not only played both duet guitar parts but also played bass for this song overlaying three tracks on top of each other. Roger played the acoustic guitar. When they toured for this album, they had Whitey Ford with them to play the second lead guitar and he also played the acoustic guitar while Roger played the bass.
Gotta get to SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND after your Animals trip. Keep going, there is enough great Pink Floyd out there to keep you busy for a while. And then the best thing is, it never gets old. Been listening for 45+ years and still dominates my Playlist. Favorite musicians of all time. NOT EVEN CLOSE.
You mentioned that you aren't sure if PF has any "bad" songs, whatever that term means and I have to agree. However, everybody has their own taste and PF's range of work in terms of style/sophistication is extremely vast. For example, the song Money can be characterized as quite commercially friendly and most people would love it, but there are other songs that are not quite as much appealing to the broad public and can be even considered esoteric in terms of musicianship. If you want an example of such song, check out "Pompeii - Set the Controls for The Heart of The Sun."
Your reaction is exactly the same as mine the very first time I ever heard this masterpiece. The only difference is, I heard it January 22 1977, a day after the album "Animals", was released. The goosebumps, the "Oh Gods", the utter amazement and the respect is how I felt on that magical day, so many years ago in my youth. Get back too me, 44 years down the road young man, and let me know if Pink Floyd effects you in the same way. Personally, I still feel like that 17 year old kid, blown away that day, listening to Dogs, Pigs and Sheep.
Loved your reaction. The next song on this album is pigs three different ones. The next is sheep. The last song on this album is pigs on the wing part two. You accidentally missed pigs on the wing part one.It would totally be acceptable to play pigs on the wing part one and at the same time in the same video. Love watching your musical journey. Thank you for sharing. Sorry for any spelling or punctuation errors I have dyslexia.😀👍❤️✌️🌼
Good luck finding a live Pink Floyd or David Gilmour video of this song. Sadly it does not exist. Gilmour never played this song in tours after Waters left. However, as was mentioned, Waters did an amazing live version a few years back (with someone filling in for Gilmour on vocals and guitar), which featured a full arena length mock-up of the iconic 'Animals' album cover.
the 'factory' is Battersea power station. it's now an art gallery. both the lyrics and the voice are Roger's. after listening to this album, you should check out the 'Wish You Were Here' album, starting with 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond'
You could do Pigs and Sheep as sperate reactions and then do Pigs on the Wing (parts 1 & 2) together. Great concept album. After that hit the Wish You Were Here album which came out between Dark Side of the Moon and Animals.
Dogs is supposed to end when David sings “Drag down by the stone”, you can find the alternative version in which they are separated. They connected the second part together with the synth in the final version and I gotta say, what a bold move but I fuckin dig it. It adds a mysterious feeling to it and it’s cool to imagine the scene. I imagine it when I listen to this part that the “dog” is running away from its crime on a dark night.
Great reaction. However don't forget the two little songs that bookend the album. They are very important. And as for Gilmour he is not a shredder he is a bender.
'Animals' is a loose translation of George Orwell's novel 'Animal Farm'. Where Orwell was commenting on Communism, Pink Floyd is commenting on Capitalism. Great reaction! Send more!
What are you talking about....He hasn't even come close to "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict" or "Echoes" for that matter !!!!
@@gbsailing9436 These 2 songs certainly illustrate that old saying: The longer the title, the less important the song. I would actually love to imbibe some of whatever they were sampling in those days.
to me, This album is incredible. Id even rank this one Higher than Wish you were here. May not be better but I like it a lil better. This album to me, I like as much as The Wall.
Floyd songs are not on regular time, they are on Floyd time which is beginning and ending with a lot in between. It’s best to listen to the albums as a whole with the transitions in place. Like only reading a paragraph of a book instead of the whole book 😎
The music for Animals was written and performed live years before the album came out. The songs had different names back then. Check out "You've got to be crazy." It's the best live version of Dogs you will get imo. Same goes for Sheep. After you listen to Sheep, try "Raving and drooling."
Fun story about the cover. That's not photoshop....its a real inflatable pig in the sky over Battersea Power Station. During the photography, it broke free & floated away but they got it back. The pig is apparently called Archie. When The Simpsons movie opened in London, in homage to PF and for publicity, they flew a 'Spiderpig' over the station. The album is loosely based on George Orwell's classic novel Animal Farm which is a satire on the Russian revolution. To us Brits (and probably most of the world!!), Battersea Power Station is a rock icon now.
Taking bets on how many OMG's for this vid.... **** I had thought he might pique out at 9-10, but I wasn't even close! Ha ha...it was 24 !!! Go find a bean bag or deep leather couch, put your headphones on and sink down into your chair, close your eyes, sip away the final drink, and let the music do it's thing to sooth your soul !!!
I KNEWWWWW YOU WERE GONNA LIKE THIS! LOL :) COOL IT'S BASICALLY: DOGS / BUSINESSMAN, PIGS / GOVERNMENT, AND SHEEP / THE PEOPLE :) IT'S AN AWESOME OUTPUT FOR SURE.
Just a note,.. the "Stone" that Pink Floyd referring to throughout this album, and other PF albums, is representative of life's struggles and challenges that we all go through.
In short The Dogs are business men The Pigs are politicians and The Sheep are us. With some bands it helps to enjoy the song knowing some back ground info especially in you get in to Tool They will blow your mind Try Lateralus . Good stuff im liking your journey keep rocking
Animals has been my favorite Pink Floyd album for decades. Lots of fun watching your reaction. I remember always wondering exactly what DG meant by the Stone in these lyrics. I realize now he must referencing the Greek myth of Sisyphus, whose punishment in Hades was to roll a boulder (or stone) up a hill everyday only to watch it roll back down the hill. He certainly would eventually be dragged down by the Stone, so to speak.
Pink Floyd started in 60s with first two psychedelic albums, a long album like a themed one for movie. A blues and rock sound for sure and then nice themed whole albums like Wish You Were Here, Dark Side of the Moon, Animals and The Wall. Never been a bad song!
There are 5 tracks on the album, you missed pigs on the wing part 1. There are 3 longer tracks, dogs, pigs and sheep, bookended by 2 short acoustic tracks pigs on the wing parts 1 and 2. The album reflects 3 levels of society, some say loosely based on 'animal farm'. Most of the population, especially in the last year are sheep. This album is as good as the big 3 floyd albums in my opinion. Nice reaction
Got a suggestion- since you loved both Dogs and War Pigs, I recommend Children of the Grave by Black Sabbath. It’s not a horror-themed song, it’s about the need to protest against war and injustice. The music, however, is an almost perfect marriage of prog like Floyd and metal.
Technically, Wish You Were Here is the album that released right after Dark Side, and then Animals and then The Wall. But that doesn't necessarily matter since you'll listen to them all in the end I'm sure
Well done for delving into this, great reaction, maybe you'd wanna take a listen to the 1972 live version of "Echoes" from Pompeii, also "One Of These Days" from the same concert👌✌
Going to make a recommendation. Since you loved both War Pigs and Dogs, the Black Sabbath song Children of the Grave will blow your mind. It’s not a horror themed song, don’t let the name fool you. It’s about the need to protest against war and injustice- but the music is absolutely a killer mix of prog and metal
They called the album «Animals» because of George Orwell's book «Animal Farm». But while the original was a portion of typical trotskyist slander against the USSR, Pink Floyd chose to criticize capitalism and reactionism in general (the part about Mary Whitehouse in «Pigs»). Since they're kinda socialdemocratic, the critique isn't all that good, but the art is fantastic.
I keep on saying this - and it may be obvious to you - but the end lyrics to Dogs are statements, not questions: And you believe at heart everyone's a killer...who was born in a house full of pain..etc.
No love for Pigs on The Wing pt1? Lol. That and part 2 are beautiful bookends to such a deep album. You're starting to be able to pick out Roger's voice from Dave's, good. Roger's is the rougher, often more nasally vocals. Gilmour is more soft and airy but can also get gritty when needed.
I don’t know that these lyrics are that deep; pretty direct metaphors between the three animals cliches and three types of people. It’s a dark perspective on humanity and The Wall is essentially Waters apology for it, he’s said. This is the best song on the album. I don’t feel it’s up to the standard of the previous three or The Wall. I wish they’d written one more song that found some “light” in humanity. I forget the album length but I think it’s pretty short. But, hey, after Echoes & the masterpieces of Dark Side and WYWH, what the heck. It’s still Floyd and not like it’s “bad”.
Great reaction. You say "Oh My God" alot on your reacton videos. I realize you're just doing an honest reaction and that is how you feel. Just so you know, you don't have to say Oh My God all the time....we can see it on the expression on your face. However, I need to back off and let you be you. Thanks for doing these reactions.
And now do a reaction to Van der Graaf Generator. Trust me; they are even better than Pink Floyd. Start with "The Sleepwalkers" from their album "Godbluff", which is "only" 10:40 long. Or if you are really adventurous try the 23 minutes song "A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers" from their album "Pawn Hearts".
Pigs = Business Man/Politicians
Dogs = Enforcers/Bosses in a company tryin to move up while pushing others down
Sheep = the working class following blindly
Animal Farm is the inspiration source for this album.
You hit it right on the head that is the exact meaning of the album animals not many people know this well done.
In Roger Waters' take the dogs are the ruthless businessmen, pigs are the political/ruling class, and sheep are the passive victims of both.
Dogs represent the ruthless world of businessmen and how the more brutal you are the more you get to the top. The rest of what you wrote is 100% right.
Everything on the Animals album should be done with a lyrics version. Good job, young man.

Great job...That was a 28 OMG reaction!!!
Listen to Pink Floyd first, then make your bed. LOL! Love your reactions!
Memories...😎🎧🎼🎸
I seen them do this live in 1977.
Pink Floyd started in 60s with first two psychedelic albums, a long album like a themed one for movie. A blues and rock sound for sure and then nice themed whole albums like Wish You Were Here, Dark Side of the Moon, Animals and The Wall. Never been a bad song!
David Gilmour
IT WAS CRAZY TO SEE IT LIVE BACK IN 76 DURING THE 'ANIMALS ' TOUR HUNTER, YES IT WAS INSANE AND I WAS HIGHER THAN A KITE AS A 16 YEAR OLD! :)
Yes the audio version of that is quite good too!
Pink Floyd? Umma fuckin Gumma.
Crazy good this is what your grandpaw listen to so Frosty
David Gilmour to A&R man - "Yea, another guitar solo. I don't care if it takes nine f@#$%^g solos. THE TUNE IS FINISHED WHEN I BLOODY WELL SAY IT IS!"
Your reaction made me subscribe XD
Going to make a recommendation. Since you loved both War Pigs and Dogs, the Black Sabbath song Children of the Grave will blow your mind. It’s not a horror themed song, don’t let the name fool you. It’s about the need to protest against war and injustice- but the music is absolutely a killer mix of prog and metal
Music great but the words are everything...
Roger Waters has a Great Live version from his In The Flesh Tour!!
Here’s his live performance from his 2018 tour. I saw it twice. Best experience. The video is on UA-cam.

The smokestacks you see in the photo were brought to life. They rose from the center of the arena which became the Animals album cover.
@@kmanek1 I too saw this show twice In Philly, But your right seeing Battersea Powerplant rise was truly an Experience!
the music isnt quite loud enough , .but then again is it ever
I keep on saying this - and it may be obvious to you - but the end lyrics to Dogs are statements, not questions: And you believe at heart everyone's a killer...who was born in a house full of pain..etc.
😍 Grabbed my snacks! Let's Go! 🍿🐰 #ENEGYZRBunny
Probably you noticed that the first half is sung by David Gilmour and the last by Roger Waters.
What's funny is to count the number of times you say (oh my God),
24 times in total, so 1 time every 42.5 seconds.
But the lyrics, though! 💯💥💣
NEXT UPPPPPPPPPPPP: PIGS YOU SHOULD JUST DO THE ALBUM IN ORDER SO YOU GET IT HUNTER! :)
you should react to their song called chickens
Thats Gilmour on vocals
The last 2 vocal parts is Waters: “Gotta admit that I’m a little bit confused…”.
The Floyd! You really need weed and that bed behind you! And you go on a trip!
You got it, babe
I 'm not sure but I think it was recorded in the 60's.
Thanks for doing these reactions.
youd be hard pressed to fins a live version of DOGS; there are a few boolegs but nothing on album
You should do HEART OF THE SUNRISE by YES BUT DONT DO THER LIVER VERSION
Do you play an instrument? It looks like you have a lot of good music in you wanting to be expressed 🎸😊
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
