If you ask me, Animals is the best Floyd album. Perfect mix of ethereal, edgy, intellectual, and all with excellent musicianship. And recorded impeccably.
Their Animals album is sorely underrated, in my opinion. Every song is masterfully done. The guitar solo in Dogs is easily worth the price of the album.
An album still completely relevant 43 years after it's release.

That is when Dave peaked at his solo playing in the Floyd (in my opinion). There is just something very raw about this solo.. techniques that he never used again.. the chord progression gave him such an interesting tapestry in which to paint a sonic, chaotic, and fantastic sound. This song has my favorite David Gilmour solo ever.

Imagine front row center lower level 1978. 18 years old and my 1st concert. 3 hour concert with an intermission after playing the complete Animals album, followed by most of Dark Side of the Moon. A stoner's dream!!

You are correct that the drums and bass are often overlooked, but they are the foundation of the whole song. It doesn't make you crazy at all, it makes you a person that actually listens to music that sometimes requires a little patience. I enjoyed your reaction, and I love the song. I agree with you regarding ads, they break the momentum of music but It is what it is.
From dreamy soundscapes to catchy bass lines through sometimes downright chaotic interludes all the way back to that beautiful main musical theme or groove while spitting intelligent words at you. In just one song, so many ideas and transitions.
And there are a couple of hundred of them..

The Floyd are the absolute pinnacle in the use of non-musical elements in their music. It really helps to set a mood to the music.
If you saw the movie 'Echoes : Live at Pompeii', you can see how they basically got these new 'things' to play with, and they showed us how they just tried various things until they got 'music' out of them, best example would be the song 'On the run.'

Hi, I was 16 in 1977, and saw May 9th show in Oakland, it changed my career choice into Musical performances. 1show - 1 band, so many different styles. I was touched by the rock gods.

The guy playing the bass is Roger Waters who wrote AND sang this. Nick Mason is such a great, understated drummer. Richard Wright on keyboards was a genius and David Gilmour is a rock guitar god!!! You could do 50 more Pink Floyd reaction videos and your channel would blow up. Your final comment about their music taking you to a different dimension was profound. You could not have said it better! Well done!!!!

Pink Floyds Animals album you should listen from start to finish. That`s why the first song is "Pigs on The Wing (Part 1)" and the last song is "Pigs on The Wing (Part 2)"
Part 1 & part 2 has a rare version of a solo guitar piece by Snowy White between the 2 parts. But David Gilmore decided not to have it added. You can find it somewhere here on UA-cam. IMO I think it’s the best version when it’s all combined together.

Basically about the cruel life of big business, being a part of the pack of wolves or dogs, making all sacrifices to business, ignoring family and ethics for the bottom line, only to have it end in utter despair and loneliness all alone and dying of cancer. The Floyd always with an intense life message.
It’s a difficult choice between Dogs or Echoes which is my favourite. (I even heard Echoes played in full on the radio once, which I never thought was possible but yeah, the fans voted and they delivered.) I didn’t actually vote but at the time I said ‘Echoes ‘ and the waited for the inevitable DSOTM, Wish you were here, Wall tsunami. Oh how nice to be so wrong. Admittedly, it wasn’t a commercial radio program. 2JJJ Sydney, Australia presented by Richard Kingsmill.
No,you're not crazy,their music was designed to take you on a journey.When I was younger,I worked at a newspaper and would get off of work around 2 am,and I can't tell you how many times I would smoke a little weed and just get lost in this album while driving home,and with this song in particular.Gas was cheap back then,and once I got out of the city and out into the countryside where I lived,and I'd just drive on autopilot,completely immersed in the music.You don't have to be stoned to enjoy their music,but it did give me a different perspective on it.
My cat was listening to the song with me ,but she only seemed to enjoy the dogs barking and the annoying adds at the end !!!.😸👀
I love your emotion to music. I remember the first time I heard all the Floyd albums, (yes I got them when they were released), Im old lol. Its all moving, each song is a bit of a journey if you let it take you on one. Enjoy young beautiful one.

Just in case no one else mentioned it, this album was inspired by the book Animal Farm by George Orwell. You can really get the "message" once you read that book! 😉
For me, as others have mentioned, this is an album that I listen to from beginning to end. That is the full journey to the other universe. 🤯
From a time when you listened to a song for twenty minutes somebody got up flipped the album and nobody said word for another twenty minutes.
I’m glad you gave a shout out to the rhythm section. I am a bass player and we don’t get enough recognition when we are a fundamental part for harmony and rhythm.
Absolutely wonderful song Every time a plant manager is walked out at my facility I go and play this song over the shops intercom system. Kind of my way of saying goodbye to an asshole…….. i’ve got to do it twice in the last 10 years both plant manager stepped over their boundaries through belittling people in front of their peers and also racial slurs.
I listen to a LOT of music videos on UA-cam......& it seems like only in the past month.....I've seen more & MORE ads popping up in the middle of those things. They usually never stuck ads in the music videos.

Fair warning though - it includes middle section, which not all people are comfortable with, but if aren’t amongst those demographic you should be able to enjoy that one! That song will “consume” you just about as much as this one did if not more even!…

You need to be careful with Floyd, they go some dark places....Animal Farm, War, Money, Walls, Mental Illness. They use big themes and metaphors. The Wall album is something you can't unhear. It's dark.
Should hear Animals from beginning till the end without interruption.

Ohh my background. I'm a retired dj. I worked dinosaur nightclubs in the early 80s to early 90s. I played starting in rock to disco to funk, then punk, then well sadly and unproud gentlemen clubs. But it payed exceptionally well.
So I know music. This was a favorite album long before people even listen to alternative rock. Yes pink floyd prior the wall was alternative rock.
In fact until rumors by Fleetwood Mac. Most what we call today classic rock was unknown and alternative rock.
Examples, the doors, Alice Cooper, Aerosmith, black sabbath, Jethro Tull, Robin Trower, spirit, free, almond brothers, eagles, Doogie brothers, lynard skinnar, rush, blo, rare earth, and countless others were not real famous. Most got way more recognition years after there albums were released.

Even if Dark Side of the Moon is just the best album ever, Animals is still my favorite.
The use of the word 'stone' in the lyrics is used to allude to the meaning of the Greek mythological tale about Sisyphus who for his cheating, deceit and skulduggery was punished by the Gods to an eternity of having push a giant stone/boulder to the top of a hill only for it to roll back down again every time he's close to achieving his task. Basically its an extremely laborious attempt at something that is forever totally futile.
