Thanks Yoyoka. Karen Carpenter would be proud of your performance. Beautiful
this kid is amazing talent.
So would Richard
@@philipdickey6460 Richard is well aware of Yoyoka and has been for quite some time now.
Every shalala still shines! 😇
Karen once said she felt the most happy and free when she was behind her kit drumming, just like you Yoyoka! Excellent cover, thank you.
I had forgotten Karen was such a fantastic drummer. This was a nice reminder.
Actually brought tears to my eyes. Karen was so passionate about playing drums, and drums were her first love when it came to music. She suffered terribly due to her illness. Karen was a world class drummer and vocalist. Yoyoka has done her proud. Yoyoka, keep making beautiful music, you are amazing.
Wow. I never imagined Yoyoka playing a Carpenters song. Beautiful. I remember back in the 70's watching Karen play the drums and sing. One of the greatest voices of all time, and a superb drummer as well. We still miss you Karen.
I saw the carpenters live, at Eastern Illinois University in the 70s….🎶❤️🙏🏻
Since then, being a musician , I could not tell you all of the concert I have attended and been impressed with….!
But the Carpenters concert I went to in the 70s , was absolutely the best sounding and most entertaining concert. I have attended in my 69 years…..!!! During the concert, Karen went around and played every instrument on the stage as good or better than the great big band back in her up…! 😍🎶🎶😍🎶🎶👍🏻
Not only do I appreciate her skill but her ability to play all styles of popular music. Here she is following the drum patterns of the great HAL BLAINE - God Bless Hal may he RIP.
Literally had a tear in my eye listening/watching this. I was a small child when The Carpenters were performing and I had the little 45 rpm single of this song. I'm a 50+ year old metal-head now, but Karen had one of the all time great voices and was an excellent drummer. Thanks Yoyoka!
I'm a 60 year old classic rocker, and this one had the same affect on me as those old memories came rushing back.
This brought a tear to my eye too. This is such a great song. Didn’t think it could get better. But damn - Yoyoka’s drumming is just out of this world. This is incredible! It’s opening up my eyes to what an amazing drummer can do, even on a slower tempo song like this. It’s not the blazing blistering technicality she can do - it’s the subtlety, the feel, the emotion. It’s really unbelievable. She’s the best drummer in the world for me right now. Sounds crazy maybe but it’s true.
Thanks for doing this…. Karen had such a beautifully, haunting voice. She’s so missed ❤
And besides her wonderful musical legacy, Karen’s tragic and eventual untimely death of heart failure related to her years-long struggle with anorexia would later raise significant attention and awareness of eating disorders, body dysmorphia, and their possible causes. Her all-too-brief life and career were oh so meaningful in so many ways.🙌
Karen Carpenter always said that she was a drummer that sings not a singer that plays drums! And what a great drummer she was. Just like Yoyoka. 🥁
Wow. I love the tasty little details like sneaking in a 16th note triplet in the kick. That's a really difficult slow tempo to groove on but she owned it, of course.
Dear Yoyoka - Karen Carpenter was a great but underrated drummer, especially as a singing drummer. Your treatment of her song was perfect. Great camera angles. 🎉
Hal Blaine is the drummer on the recording!!!
@@mikmoe6829 Beat me to it! Hal was a monster sessions drummer with a truly astounding record of hit song recordings. Yoyoka's ability to quickly master and flawlessly perform single takes in a studio environment is very evocative of his style.
Underrated? She’s on a lot of greatest drummers lists. She even had a couple aired spcials of her showing off her drumming skills. You mean the generations after her just don’t know she was a drummer… only she was an elite vocalist who died much too early.
Perfect, there's amazing footage of Karen playing drums on UA-cam, be sure to check it out Yoyoko fans, brilliant as always, thanks young lady 😊
@@mikmoe6829 Do your research. Karen played all drums on the Now & Then album. Thank you.
Somewhere Karen is giving you a standing ovation
One day Led Zep then The Carpenters, thats an incredible scope of playing skills
Sometimes slow playing drums can be more easier to make a mistake than fast playing drums, also the mistake stands out more. You do well Yoyoka.
Got that Yoyoka model snare sounding good.
Shing-a-ling-ling! That was great to hear. Very nice.
My parents had a nice LP collection, with some The Carpenters.
It makes me very melancholic... Also the thing that Karen died far too soon, because of a heart disorder caused by anorexia.
She would for sure smile if she saw this.
Loved it, never really listened to the drum on the song, always just listened to Karen and sang
The Carpenter recordings had master session drummer Hal Blaine on drums - Karen of course played live. But in those days many producers and studios relied upon a cadre of ace musicians to work up the tracks. Hal Blaine was one of the key members of Los Angeles' "Wrecking Crew". Blaine played on something like 39 Billboard No. 1 songs. From Wikipedia: "thought to be among the most recorded studio drummers in the music industry, claiming over 35,000 sessions and 6,000 singles. His drumming is featured on 150 US top 10 hits". Arguably the most influential drummer of the 1960s for the simple reason that he plays drums on the majority of Top 40 radio recordings of the era. Everyone from Frank Sinatra to Elvis Presley, The Ronettes, The Crystals, Glen Campbell, Johnny Rivers, Steely Dan, The Byrds, the Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel, The 5th Dimension, Sonny and Cher, Petula Clark, The Mamas & the Papas, John Denver, Herb Alpert, The Association, The Partridge Family, Neil Diamond, Paul Revere and The Raiders (and many others) have Hal Blaine playing on at least one track if not many. Blaine and Joe Osborn were the rhythm section for The 5th Dimension up through 1975. Check out Blaine's drumming on these two great track: ua-cam.com/video/JZBvwmabhs4/v-deo.html

Yoyoka, you did Karen justice. She would have loved your cover of this very famous song.
What a pure voice she had.
I can't say I was ever a Carpenters fan, and this drippy song just oozing with nostalgia is actually a depressive recollection of lost love and all that. Well you know your dog dies and your partner runs off with your best friend and takes the truck. But musically it's a nice composition I have to admit, and Yoyoka not only has a fine taste in music she plays the accompaniment so very tastefully.
I didn't think a song like this could showcase her talent but dang, I was wrong. Fantastic job!
In my yesteryears I was strictly a metalhead...now I'm glad in older years i can appreciate the Carpenters beautiful music, and Karen's amazing drumming as well!
Sweet cover!
My super sweet mother played it so often
I noticed the different camera angles, the one camera angle that’s showing the snare and kick drum is a much better one 👍
I like the over head camera angle to 👍great video thank you for posting it
The sound quality was amazing running through my McIntosh and Sonus Fabers
Thanks for the classic hits flashback! Excellent fit for the Yoyoka snare, as well.
I have always been impressed by the sound she gets out of her drum set. Her drums are always tuned perfectly to the song she is covering and doesn't overpower it.
Beautiful Boketo! Miss Carpenter would have been proud! 🇯🇵🇺🇸
You never make me feel rather sad, nothing has changed. You are a great successor, besides an artist of music.
Wow, what taste! I'm impressed. Karen Carpenter was a Giant. 💪
You make me like stuff I normally don't like !
I love that you chose a Carpenter's song, You nailed it. I've made it a point to learn the bass parts for many of their songs...so melodic. Bassist Joe Osborn is one of my favorite bassists.
Two of my favorite ladies in the world: karen's beautiful voice.....and Yoyoka's wonderful drum set to accompany! Definitely makes me cry! You are wonderful, Yoyoka!
I've been watching you for many years now ... I'm not sure how long but it's been awhile and it's taught me a deeper appreciation for the artists you cover. All these years I've never left you a comment but this was SPECIAL enough to me that I must express my appreciation for your exceptional talent and abilities. Best!
Sublime tribute Yoyoka. Karen would love it.
Amazing work! slow ballads are a lot harder than they sound for the drummer to stay in the pocket. No trouble at all for Yoyoka!
One of my favorite Carpenter's song!! Still have my 45!! 🥁 🥁🥁
Great performance! When I was in my early teens I liked the drum work of the Carpenters. Only in my early fifties I'd discovered that Karen Carpenter was an accomplished drummer. Now in my early sixties, I'm glad Yoyoka has covered this song. I understand slower beat pieces can be harder to perform than faster beats. I still enjoy the rock stuff too.
Two great drummers❤️
Ok, perhaps I have under-estimated Karen Carpenter as a drummer (but never as a singer). It may sound simple, but it might have a tad more difficulty than I imagined..... maybe.... Either way, this cover gives me some new appreciation of how respectable she really was as a drummer. The reason it's often overlooked though, is because her singing is just too great, that most everyone listening to this song concentrates on that epic voice of hers.
So, thank you Yoyoka, for bringing this to light. As always, you have educated me more often than I can thank you for.
One of my mum's favourite songs. Reminds me of when I was young and she'd play this in the car. I'm sending her the link to this she'll love it
Yoyoka, you are a genius at making the classics come alive again
Amazing
One just has to ♥you. It's mandatory. 🐐
Through Yoyoka I’m able to appreciate drum parts I’ve never noticed before. Thank you Yoyoka.
The Touch and Sensitivity of Yoyoka's playing is Masterful. Very Nice, Yoyoka.
Beautiful song of The Carpenters and Yoyoka's performance.😍
The greatest, purest American female vocalist I've ever heard, and one hell of a drummer, too. Thank you for this cover.
Karen was like warm honey dripping off silk. She had chops at the kit as well.
I am still sad when I think of her.
Being around for 6 decades I remember the Carpenters at their start, all the way to their own show, and her tragic end.
It is a good cover.
Beautiful song and beautiful playing, Yokoka!
This is probably the first slow song she has played and its a classic. Well, done Yoyoka-sensei.
Beautiful cover
Yoyoka this is a very nice cover of a beautiful song. 🐰🥁🐰🥁🐰
Love all the space in this song... every note and beat can speak.
Excellent job. As mentioned in previous comments Karen was an excellent drummer in her own right. I’m sure she’s smiling watching you cover this song. Great job youngin
Yoyoka can do smooth with the Carpenters just as well as hard rock with Zeppelin! Yaaaaayyy Yoyoka she's so versatile, the absolute best! More Yoyoka, More Yoyoka, More Yoyoka, I love Yoyoka more! Beautiful!
Each time I think you’ve covered every genre, this happens. Amazing!
It's all about feel.
Very good job.
I'm diggin' the longer hair 👍
I'm not a Carpenters fan but I know Karen was a great drummer so I think it's a good choice. Well done Yoyoka!
Your maturity and musical sensibilities keep amazing me.
Great song. Karen was a true vocalist with such a beautiful voice. I love the fact that Yoyoka is really expanding her repertoire of music. She can play anything the more she is exposed to the different genre's of music.
I too love to drum to every type of music.
So great Yoyoka 👍🎉🐸⛩️🥁🇯🇵🇺🇸🏄🏂
A beautiful song to showcase how smooth your drum fills can be.
You shine with the oldies and the the goodies. An American classic ,very nice Yoyoka
A real change of pace ! Very smooth! Oh just noticed the new overhead view - great addition!
Amazing how she can play any song, at any speed. Such dynamic control, unheard of for someone her age! OK, for anyone of any age!
@@Glen.Black.😊
@@chrisegbertky 😀
Yup. Great addition!
Hit it like a girl...Yoyoka and Karen, that is! I love it! Yoyoka and I have the same taste in music. Brilliant, Yoyoka!
Wow ,brilliant ❤
Yoyoka you're amazing
I had forgotten all about this song. .... Thank you.
Everything you touch turns to gold Yoyoka. You really captured it. ♥
Quality … such a perfect interpretation 👍👍👍
All good drummers can play and enjoy pop songs.
What a classic and a good showcase for your versatility. The little accents and flare you put into the patterns are great. Karen would approve.
Thank you yoyoka. I grew up listening to the carpenter's as a kid, younger than you. My mother would play the carpenter's often and my dad with his freddy fender , lol miss you Karen thanks fir the great music you and your brother created. Karen was an all around musician she wrote, sang, played drums and piano .
Nice one Yoyoka Chan!! Thank you. You probably knew this but Karen Carpenter was a really good drummer also.
When she hits that 'Top Hat'? at @02:23 it just sounds as pristine as Karen's voice! -Thanks Yoyo!!!
She crushed it again!!
🙆
She drummed Karen's lyrics... beautifully
Well done Yoyoka!!
I've said it before and i'll say it again, she can join any band of any genre and stands out like a sore thumb.
One of my favorite song, thank you for covering this.
Wow… a slower pace. I love it Yoyoka!! You are a joy to watch ❤❤❤
Beautiful...Loved it! 2 of my favorite female drummers. 💜🥁🥁
Hal Blaine is the drummer on this song and original recording!!!
@@mikmoe6829 Thanks for that.
Cool info, thanks @@mikmoe6829! I didn’t know that!
@@mikmoe6829 Karen played drums on all the tracks of the 1973 album, Now & Then, except for Jambalaya. This song is from that album. She also played drums on all the tracks from the 1969 album, Offering, re-released as Ticket to Ride. Do your research.
Karen was always such a musical drummer. Great rendition Yoyoka.
The stick wave at the end. Happy nutty cute kid. Having fun. Being wonderful. ALWAYS do what you love. You bring me joy. Karen carpenter loved playing her drums very much and she was SCARY good at it! You honored her here. Thank you for that.
Teasing us over the stick wave. Yoyoka, you are one of a kind!
