Many drummers remark that Vinnie Colaiuta's drumming on Sting's "Seven Days" is one of the greatest recorded performances ever. It is a super treat to see Yoyoka on the kit as we watch and listen to her rise to these heights. I dare to say that Yoyoka can perform anything she sets her mind to. Thank you to the Soma family for making these great moments happen. Regards, Daniel
I would suggest this is better than the original, but I am biased! It could be that Aki’s mix is always drum forward.
Indeed, we are witnessing something really special. Not in a fanboy way but Yoyoka's abilities are truly something else. I dabbled with the drums and have followed the careers of many drummers but none have fascinated me more.
Thank you for your rrequest.
Great choice!!
This was indeed pure magic. Goosebumps, chills...and did gravity subtly decrease in the room for a second?
I raise you Bill Buford on _Heart of the sunrise._
You're not a child prodigy any more. You're a world class drummer.
If you don't know how fabulous this is then you have no idea what you are listening to.
Her age is now irrelevant. She's simply one of the best drummers out there. I knew she would get there. I just thought it would take waaaaay longer. Simply amazing on so many levels.
not really lol
How many drummers can play anything, anywhere, any timing, any phrasing, any anything, and absolutely nail it? Damn few, and most of them are dead. Not meaning to boast, but I was a subscriber before the rest of the world realised you are the best drummer ever, Yoyoka.
I've heard stuff by Sting for years and I'd never heard this one till I watched this video. Radio stations never played it, and just HEARING it is not enough. This is one of those songs that you've GOT to SEE performed. She is just damned awesome.
It seems yoyoka is now setting her sites on guitar, bass and piano so she can focus on composing and arranging. If she applies the same level of focus and passion as she has to her drumming it is going to be interesting to see her evolve as an artist not just an instrumentalist. Curious to see what happens.
Yoyokaちゃん すごい!
Sting
God, I'm speechless in here. What a talent. Listen carefully to the details, every single note she hits, and try the original. Then you will see how talented this young lady is. It's just another level good.
the ride triplets are divine!
My mind is absolutely blown right now. That might be the most amazing performance i've seen yet. Great job YOYOKA. It's clear you've been working hard and earning these chops. I'm really proud of you.
Hey Wave!
👍
to right mt , how bloody tricky is this number , shes good wowserz.
Wave - hoping to see your video analysis of this performance soon. You are one of the best drummer analysts I've seen.
thanks top guy m.

"Harmony!"💕
👍✌️🤘🖖:-)
I’ve been watching Yoyoka’s videos since she was 7 and her progress every single year has been just astounding. I’m still wondering where her ceiling is.
There might be a career for this Sting guy, now that he's gotten the Yoyoka bump ! 😉
😂😂
You know a song is good when Yoyoka covers it.
Yoyoka is one of the most musical drummers I have ever heard.
I have watched every single video that she has ever put out. Some many, many times. Overwhelmed with how good this particular one is. Playing in 5/4 is extraordinarily difficult to do with feel, and she does it with feel in spades. Spades. Rock solid .
5/4 is a challenge, no joke. However it was 7/8 that broke me back in the day. Who thought that was a good idea? (I'm not a drummer, but I sure depended on one for that piece.)
@@tarmaque Incidently you can watch Yoyoka effortlessly lay down some 7/8 at age 10 in the intro to 2 + 2 = 5 by Radiohead. It pissed me off in the most beautiful way.
same
Dear Yoyoka. Here is how brilliant you are. You take a song I’ve never heard before and show me how wondrous the drum part is and I learn to appreciate the song through your talent. Thank you for such a beautiful gift
Right on brother.
The drums make the entire song
Vinnie Colaiuta
I agree, this happens so many times too.
This is so true, i think drummer is one of least appreciated member of the band just because they're always place at the back but when you really really listen drum is the musical instrument that connects/make up the whole music together.
And the wingnut holds on through another epic beating!😂
Incredible, particularly considering your age - I love how happy you look when you play (and even before and after playing)! Get that girl some splash cymbals! :) Keep it up, you have an amazing, LONG career ahead of you!
WOW - one take?!?!?! I always knew Yoyoka was good, but that's absolutely mind boggling for this song
なんちゅうリズムのめちゃくちゃ難しい曲なんですかああああ😂😂😂
激しい叩きはそんなにないけど、これほど軽やかにすらっと叩けるまでに何回練習したの?😆
これはね…見入っちゃったわ❤
What we DON'T see here is the sheer discipline and tremendous effort that went into studying, practicing and perfecting this cover. I envy and adore Yoyoka.
I think you are thinking as we, common humans.
I beleive she doesn't have it that hard. I heard her say once (I might have read it) that music & drumming was her first language.
I think if she likes a tune she'll "sneak" into it and go along with it and enjoy it in a way we commoners can't. She understands, she delivers and she enjoys. And we love her "voice", her sound. Because there's some purity there, some joy.
It's like she shows us; hey guys, this is what I do when I'm happy and want to express myself. And, of course, we all go nuts in awe and joy and admiration. I hope it never ends, her pleassure and joy in performing. I hope.
All that said she is very committed and puts a lot of effort to make all this happen. Because she likes it as much as we do.
Thanks Yoyoka!!
Someone commented on the zoom call that she made this look easy and she stated emphatically "That was NOT easy"!
She said it was not easy (per Chris below) and it was 5-6 weeks. Only YYZ has been that long to learn.
Indeed! When she was in Las Vegas, she told Rob Yule and I that this was the most difficult song she had learned up to this point. Little over 5 weeks. Of course this is in between the two gigs per week, school, homework etc. Was really cute, she said "It was soooooooo harrrrrd!", very animated.
God dayum! She smoked it! This is probably considered ''THE'' song that defines 5/4 drumming. I've been watching people cover it for years, and many have made superb renditions. When I saw that Yoyoka had tackled it, I don't think I've ever clicked on video with such speed and anticipation. Of course, I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. I've been praising her taste, maturity, musicality and feel for years. Even expecting great things, she still left me shaking my head. What a fucking legend. At all of what, 13 years old?
I believe it's 5/4 time.
@@benjamindoverr3455 You are absolutely correct... I've edited my comment.
I think that Joe Morello might have a claim to the best 5/4 time song ever. Take five.
One thing I really enjoy about Yoyoka's vids is actually reading all the comments from other regular supporters. Rob Yule, Pat Carey, Wave, Kazsaan and a whole lot of other familiar names i recognize over the years... Feels like a big family.
We are the YOYOKA Army!
@@Rob-Yulereporting for duty.
Big fan here
I feel fortunate to be a Yoyoka fan. She's amazing.
This young lady is progressing at the speed of light! Amazing “Boketto”! Superb! 🇯🇵🇺🇸
Does this kid ever miss a beat??? She seems spot on for every recording.
Drum sounds and playing techniques..... Spechless 👍👍👍
Wow! Just wow! I know every ghost note in this song by heart and this take is just beautiful and perfect!
I already commented but I have to comment again as I listen over and over because this is simply a masterpiece! Words fail me but I'll try:
There's such a natural drivingness, a sunny ethereal yet grounded creation of worlds here, like you're conducting an environment into existence yet with a world-class professional ease that says, "I'll be done in time for breakfast."
You nailed it, man. Well done.
She's a crazy, musical, honest, joyfull, cobfident, reliable young/old drummer. Love her!
She plays chords instead if notes.
I mean this most sincerely ….
You’re absolutely awesome!
Brilliant again from start to finish but that last 20 seconds... goodness me.
Indeed, just when you think it couldn’t get any better!
That Yoyoka magic spice sprinkled throughout, then a dazzling display of sparks.
I am totally IMPRESSED!!!!! Vinnie Colaiuta's drumming is no joke!!! GREAT JOB!!!
This was perfection
Oh myyy! Yoyoka knows no bounds! Vinnie Colaiuta's phenomenal drum track in a 5/4 time sig! Outstanding interpretation young lady! There just isnt an ounce of fear in you taking on these sophisticated pieces!🤙🏼
Unbelievable!
Yoyoka, you are truly a treasure! What an awesome piece of drumming, to a great Sting song. Thank you for sharing your amazing musicianship with us!
I've lost track of how many times I've listened to this cover and I get the chills every time. There are also many reaction videos of this piece that bring different aspects of it to life.
The one reaction I am waiting for the most is from Vinnie himself. I know that he presents analytical videos on many topics, so I would love to hear he take on Yoyoka's cover.
Vinnie, if you're out there, please consider sharing your thoughts
Thanks
She just played this as her Drum Fantasy Camp jam with a pro band, no rehearsal, where she's getting small-group classes taught by Larnell Lewis, Dave Weckl, and two other top pros. They're gonna be impressed.
Well, stunned disbelief followed by total acceptance forever more. Yoyoka , your a gift of epoch proportion to the human spirit.
Holy shit…this kid!
I love her drum's sound ..perfect 👍🏼👍🏼
Anything I can say about this performance is superfluous at this point. So blessed to share the planet with this musician and her family. So fortunate to be a Patron and have some small share of lending support to the Soma clan..
13 yrs old !!!! A truly masterful performance ❤
Effortless on a song that's an A+ in difficulty. The consistency of her velocity of hits is stunningly good. Truly a remarkable player, even if she had 40 yrs under her belt. Mind blowing knowing her yrs of experience.
I always watch her whole videos
Speechless. Goosebumps. Hairs standing on end. Someone give this maestro her first big break 🌠
That was amazing. Truly world class.
I've been following and admiring Yoyoka's drumming and her progress for years now, and I have to say she STILL leaves me in awe. This performance was sophisticated, complicated, cool, effortless, tasteful, musical. Am really looking forward to the musical heights this young lady's career will reach.
You make it look so easy, the talent when you're sitting at that drum set is unreal
It is kind of like watching a magician do an interesting seemingly simple but actually complex trick. You see it unfold before your eyes and know that it is a trick...no actual sorcery...but cannot help from being swept away in the mystery and beauty of it all. This is the uncanny skill of Yoyoka.
I consider the drum part in this song as one of the hardest to replicate, and yet she plays it effortlessly and it's beautiful
I don’t know this particularly Sting song. Took me a minute to realize that this is in five. I haven’t seen Yoyoka do much in unusual time signatures, though I think five is the most natural of those time signatures. As I’d expect, she nails this. She feels this like she feels everything else.
Check her Led boots cover
Thats a crazy patterns one and she just colaborates and enhances with every other instrument.
She plays bonham, colaiutta, appice, baker, ringo, chad smith, then she goes funk & punk, then melodies. She composed a masterpiece. Her songs for kids are just wonderful.
I mean, she plays and I like it.
It's all about me🤔
Yoyoka, i really love the Vinnie Colaiuta’s drumming on this song. Your interpretation on this piece just blows my mind!! Excellent feel 🎉🎉🎉
A special feature of these cover versions is that for the first time in the history of rock music you can see exactly what the drummer is really doing.
I just bought Sting's "Ten Summoner's Tales" because of Yoyoka! Thanks, Yoyoka - you are broadening my musical horizon!
ua-cam.com/video/UWhSt6Z9UsA/v-deo.html Yoyoka introduced me to the amazing band PARAMORE. Until then I only knew Hayley Williams with a disco song.
Better late than never. It’s a great album.
The GROOVE is so good. I'm going to share this video with the drummers I know!
Unbelievably awesome, incredible, superb, and fantastic drumming to such a challenging song!!! Great job!👍😊✌️ the future looks bright…great drumming!
She'll never be out of a job.
you keep getting better and better. I feel honored to get to see you progress like this...thanks for sharing!
繊細な音と重くて強い音のダイナミックレンジが凄い!カリウタやスティーブ・ガッドの演奏と重なりました。そしてYOYOKAサウンドは明快です。最高に気持ちの良いサウンド!
Such a great song by Sting and drumtrack by Vinnie Colaiuta.
Fantastic performance Yoyoka !
Great job Yoyoka
Love how she plays with the ride cymbal...totally brilliant...
Be still my beating heart! (No pun intended) One of Sting's most underrated tunes, IMO. Heard it literally dozens of times, including a couple of times live. Played PERFECTLY by our young lady!!
It is one of Sting's very best songs. If it were in a Broadway play, it would win a Tony!
※This was shot with one take and no edit! No cheat sheet music I might add. Friends, We are blessed to witness her continuing magical skills and growth before our eyes...
My favorite drum cover❤ You are amazing 🤩
I really enjoyed this cover Yoyo. I hope all is going well with settling in the USA. Thank you for sharing. Pat 🏴
Yaaaaayyy Yoyoka she's the best! Love her doing Sting!
I've been a fan of the song, the album, the artist, and of course, Vinnie, for over 20 years.
Even more so now, because this is awesome!!!
This is a whole new ball game! Incredible!
Vinnie was such an amazing drummer.
Nice to come back to check the little Yoyoka and find her grown and always happy. You have a bright future ahead. Keep rocking!
Such a busy performing schedule I was not really expecting something for the fans but then she drops this mesmerising performance. Just beautiful.
Agree. I hope the financial rewards are commensurate with the exposure she is getting in the bay area.
You have to listen to this first, without watching her play. You'll be blown away.
Magical. This really pops. The sizzle in the steak!
You have those that can play this song, then you have Yoyoka who feels the song as she plays. Sets her apart from the rest.
Sting creates unusually complicated syncopated drumming parts, that's why Stewart Copeland does such a great job as a jazz drummer. She's got it! I love Yoyoka's drumming. I can appreciate it as a musician even though I'm not a drummer.
Sting video one day. Sting cover the next. Well done. 🎉
Playing a seasoned jazz drummer like Vinnie Colaiutta is no joke and you did it perfectly. I can see why Colaiutta is so highly praised thanks to you.
It's those little fillings with these odd time signatures, it's all in the details!
Never heard this song before but I must say I enjoyed the hell out of it. I liked that the "ride" was higher in the mix than usual. Masterful job.
Wow I am incredibly impressed. That was amazing at your age. Great feel and you nailed it! Great job!
Great Yoyoka👏👏👏👏👏
Super impressive performance of a very challenging song!
A Masterwork class A performance, Dear Yoyoka. Bless you and thank you for putting in the hard work for us!
Wow. Amazing. This is a very complex piece of drumming and she nailed it! Wow. Super impressed. Keep them coming. 🎉🎉🎉
This is God-level. It's amazing to hear her manage these polyrhythms and signatures with such deep feel and pocket. Keep going!
We all know that she can knock out a decent groove, but damn, this is so...musical! Yoyoka is playing tunes on drums!!!
Amazing performance Yoyoka! I hope Sting sees and hears this somehow. I believe he would be very impressed. I am thankful to witness your growing and talent.
A most excellent performance. Bravissmo!
You and your family a real treat for the whole world to enjoy.
This is legitimately the best drum cover I’ve seen. I mean it has it all, taste, feel, chops, dynamics.
What an awesome cover of a really tough time signature..
Hard cover For any player, much less one who is only 13 yrs old.
A great song but then Who would expect
any less from Sting...!!!
Solid performance! Well played! 😎🤙🏾
Blow my mind. This is better than the original. Love you Yoyoka!
you are the next neil peart! i am always in awe when i watch you play! ❤
Yoyoka has more fun drumming than anyone else on the planet.
Perhaps slightly more than Akane Hirose of BandMaid who grins constantly while playing incredibly fast and hard!
@stillerwanderer6086 you are right. In fact most women who drum seem to be pretty joyful. Junna and Tamu as well...
You're an absolute joy to watch behind the kit. BRAVO. Fantastic performance 👏
This comment. Exactly
Vinnie Colaiutaのドラミングです。
SUCH AN EFFORTLESS PERFORMANCE. BRAVO
Such a dynamic drum performance by one of the very best (most capable) drummers on earth. Some people would have no business even attempting this song. Great job, Yoyoka. Very impressive!
OMGosh, this was absolutely awesome! Incredible as always Yoyoka! 🥁🔥
