In Jacksonville I’ve noticed Sapodilla to be even more cold hardy than Longan. Both are planted at a public park with no cold protection other than an oak canopy and also being planted on the side of a hill.
Nice to see you Paul making your way out here! I am in hoa ( 😤)and about .39 of an acre and have some of those trees as well. Mulberry ( Pakistani ) it has nothing to do with water, it looks beat up in June-July. Looks borderline sick, yellowing and dropping leaves but comes back and produces 2nd crop. It needs about 5 -7 years to mature. Fruit is absolutely delish!
Growing jackfruit in 9B is awesome! Some areas of Lakeland, FL are now designated 10A instead of 9B --so perhaps he is in 10A now? Anyway, good to see so many tropical trees including sapodilla, mango and lychee.
Unfortunately we are still in 9B as we are over by the airport on the southwest side of Lakeland. I saw 25 degrees here in January 2018, and i have seen 27-29 a few times as well. In town it is often 5 degrees warmer than my location. However we are not as bad as northern Lakeland which is often a few degrees colder than me so it can vary a lot depending on location.
Nice to see some in the area. Growing such a variety of fruit trees. I lived in the Tampa area, and I have a jackfruit tree that won't hold the fruits. The fruits turned black and then fell off. Any suggestions?
We live in Lakeland, 9B. yep, and growing mango tree..for the family, backyard, small property area, have three trees, plus avocado, dragon fruit. plus. veggies.. do winter gardening rather then spring, gets to hot. the winter garden would be like others spring crop.. shade the fruit trees during july, august..too much heat..for the fruit trees during the summer, but these are doing great..didn't get any tomatoes in the spring garden so I replanted for the fall garden, hopefully it will do so much better..and smaller tomatoes.
@@blue-flamephoenixrising2398 we just grow them starting in September and stop by May or June. Other than that it would depend on your growing conditions particularly the soil and possibly the water source. What specific issues are you having?
@@CorJenFarm I chose medium tomatoes for the spring, knowing the high tempertures for June, July, so I plant early spring, but some of them slightly bloomed , but no tomatoes, I figure due to the heat.. So i am going to try them during the fall when there is not so much heat from the sun..tempertures should be in the high 80s to 70s... instead of high 90s during the day.
@@blue-flamephoenixrising2398 what time did you plant tomatoes in spring? We plant ours end of January early February depending on the freeze outlook. You might be ok in early March but late March is likely to late as you will run into heat to quick. In the fall you want to get them in the ground now so you can get fruit before any potential freezes in December. If no freezes they can survive all the way to May
