Or you might want to carve a walking cane or cool walking stick for exploring. In this video we share some tips and techniques for have carving and using power tools instead of a lathe to make a trim or molding that you can use for walking or hiking stick wood carving ideas, rope twist derby walking canes, wizard walking staffs, carousel poles, old fashioned spiral turned wood barber shop poles, decorative half round moulding, wood rope, spiral twist wood trim and much much more. we wanted to create a decorative wood trim much like the Hafele carved rope moulding or the Omega National machined split maple wood rope molding products, or the hardwood Holden carved rope molding and trim design. This is an easy to do and how to tutorial if you do not have a lathe. We do use an assortment of power tools like a table saw, chop saw, circular saw, and disk and palm sanders. The hand-made look was the PERFECT choice for this!
Thanks!

Great technique
Great job!!! Thanks!!
wow man!great project.
That is a brilliant way to 'chuck' the work piece! And the circular saw idea was awesome too. You have great problem solving skills.
Your booth looks awesome! Nice job
This is really cool. I love how you show it using basic tools.
Great detail for the movie theater set, labor of love, but good looking choice for the 'aura' of the set...
Thanks for the tutorial! Im gonna use it to make my wand 😁
really nice work. love the façade`!!!
Awesome! Thank you for posting this! Going to make spiral hand held distaff for holding wool/flax to spin :) Cheers

+The Pirates of North Court Thanks =)

Thanks for watching!
Chris, you never cease to amaze me. Fantastic work there bud.
Thanks Josh!
Wow Chris. These really did add the right architectural element to the ticket booth. Looked great at WCHC, thanks for coming! We enjoyed your Sunday seminar, you guys sure spanned a lot of history and knowledge. Remember, my vote's the Goonies cavern in 2017. You've got plenty of time to convince Jeana on doing a pirate theme.
HAHA!!! Now that would be an awesome walkthrough ;)
so Awesome love it !!HFL!
Sorry, I needed to see a DOUBLE TWIST! I cant figure how to lay it out! Good job on your single twist! Especially without a lathe!
Wow! Nice work Chris! A lot of work for detail!
+Haunt Former I had fun making them until I got to the last one, I started wishing I was finished half way through the third one i made.
+Hollywood Haunter Yeah I bet hahaha after a while things get "old: ;)
great video!
+Lunar Designs Thanks!
that's awesome guys
Thanks buddy!
lol omg you are CRAZY Chris! I was wondering where ya got that molding I was like MAN he must dropped some serious cash on that! For myself I would not be too concerned about the time it takes to make that I love woodworking and good skill takes time it's soothing for me to work with wood and my tools but, my biggest problem is the arthritis in my hands lol. Just using a sander, my jig or my hand saw's is incredible painful after awhile I would need so many breaks and beers I was be drunk and still making that thing 6 hours later ROFL. You did a great job that's using your head!
I'm convinced you ARE making a wizard stick because you ARE a wizard!! Holy cow, nice work!
Isn't he something...crazy skills!
You definitely have an awesome talent working with wood & to make it look so cool especially for that theater scene. What's your next project Christopher?
We have a few things in the works, and we will setup the booth and finish all the things we had hoped to have done like more aging and stressing. We wanted to finish the marquee as well. i think Jeana plans on making a
Q & A video soon and we may talk about some ideas.
I was wondering about these at WCHC fantastic.Hope you liked the honey.
+Keith Baldwin We love the honey, that was very thoughtful, thank you very much =)
Hey there, what's what's the cool Celtic music you have playing in the background? Thanks for making this video! I learned how to make a wizard staff from it.... :)
Chris you love to punish your self don't you lol -) man this is a lot of work but then again after seeing this in person on your façade it looks so beautiful to -) great how to bro -)
+ramath ltol I think we have that quality in common, lol it's more rewarding that way right? Thanks Ram =)
+Hollywood Haunter lol so true bro. so true....
My OCD is an amateur compared to yours. Your detail and construction knowledge allows you to make some incredible stuff. Is set design your career?
+Montclair's Lair Yes it is what we do most of the time, thanks for the nice feedback.
+Hollywood Haunter You're welcome. Thanks for sharing your incredible talent and tips with us! :)
that skull thing at the end was my favorite thing ever! where are those skulls from? something tells me they didn't come like that & there's some Gina magic involved to them, tho.
We produced those using a two part skull mold we made a few years ago. They are made from plaster and the colored ones were aged by dipping them into a watered down paint.
what's the bagpipey music in the video?
I dont know the name but the creator of it is incomptech if you would like to check out his website I'm sure you can find it there.
Wow, that's some ghetto woodworking right there! LOL! But awesome at the same time. And it achieved the desired effect. So...perfect!
Bahahahah! Yes it is :)
Groovy??? Yep-
The part where you take the tape off, you cut the video and didn’t show what you did after that and I’m confused.
Which part did I loose you? there were a couple places where i removed the tape. 1st was removing the one stripe that gave me the spacing then i cut on the outsides of the remaining stripe. Then I removed all so I could round over everything.
Nice, but the twist is backwards from a natural twist. It's always right-handed.
Been making natural twist Cannes and staffs for years now.
Wow you know we never really thought about that. Didn't realize there was a certain direction or natural way wood twisted before so thanks for letting us know. =)
Seriously?! 😒
You could also use a router and have it slide across, making the slider longer to reach the whole pole. Now about the taping, you have to just spiral the tape on the tape at an angle start. 🙂
"hand made" ... used alot of power tools!!
ThisPersonCalledPaul let’s see some of your work buddy 👍🏾
Did I say handmade oh well, my hands still had to make the power tools work. Just using an old pocket knife to whiddle it would have been my next choice. Longer video but I could do it. 😁
