December Roe deer - Traditional bowhunting for Roedeer - Tales From the Willows - Buejagt på rådyr

Follow along on a Traditional bowhunt for roedeer with my longbow, on this cold and beautiful morning.
Bow is VPA riser with Bosen LCS limbs 5@28. Limb bolts are two turns out, which gives me 45 pounds on my fingers at 27 inches. Arrows are Black Eagle X-Impact 400 mounted with Tradvanes. Arrows have 145 grain insert outsert, and 250 grain 3 bladed 1 1/4" Broadhead. FOC is 29% and total arrow weight is 635 grain.

The VPA Vapor riser with longbow limbs. Was my can't miss setup. I believe 58in foam core limbs( silent).

It is exactly 58” and foamcore. Not very fast, because of the forgiving pad angle. With 45 pounds on my fingers at 27” and a 635 grain arrow, it shoots around 145 fps. Very forgiving

Diagonal shots traveling a long way thru the body up the chances of good blood loss. If you don't connect with large blood vessels, you will still sever a lot of little ones, especially with multi-blade heads. Good to train a dog to locate deer with poor blood trails. Congratulations on the harvest!

Thank you! The collar I have is Only protecting the shaft. These thin shafts are more fragile. The collar weighs 8 grain, so they are of course adding to the total weight

Excellent harvest. Angling shots are usually fatal & humane. Question Peter: Did you happen to use a VPA broadhead? It’s what I use and yours looks like a VPA. Congratulations 🎉🍾🎈🎊

P.S. After honing my broadhead to a razors edge I’ll rough it a bit on the file to give it a mini serrations. Razor sharp broadheads can leave a kind of “paper cut” where blood loss is internal mostly leaving minuscule amounts of external blood trail. Having a serrated type edge leaves ragged cut vessels and arteries.
